Luke's Diner- Stars Hallow, Connecticut- August 19, 1990

By the next morning, the whole town of Stars Hallow knew about the unexpected and unwanted surprise Jackie had gotten the day before. True to her word, Babette had dropped by the tiny brunette's house and left her some cookies. In fact, she hadn't been the only one with that idea. Miss Patty had left some vodka, Andrew brought by some romance novels, Luke had dropped off a nice care package that could last them a week, and even Kirk had brought her some bouncy balls that had sparkles in them. Jackie appreciated all the concern, but she was fine. She was a strong, independent woman who could handle a run-in with her past. Or at least that's what she told herself.

Which was why she was sitting in the diner with Lorelei and Rory eating breakfast like nothing was wrong. And to her, there was nothing wrong. Luckily, Lorelei and Luke knew better. Lorelei had become good at reading the small beauty after ten years of friendship. Jackie's eyes had a swollen quality to them that indicated she had been crying, and her usually wide smile was much tighter. The most alarming thing was that she was barely picking at her food. It was nearly impossible to not eat Luke's pancakes. The younger girl was worried about Jackie. She knew her friend had an unhealthy tendency to skip meals when super stressed, worried, or upset. "Pancakes not good?" Lorelei prodded gently.

"Not really hungry," Jackie mumbled mindlessly, staring at her window and taking a sip of coffee.

"You need to eat something," the taller girl insisted. Jackie sighed and took a bite of her delicious pancakes. "That's better."

Luke came over to their table with a pot of coffee. "Need a refill?" he asked gruffly. Jackie and Lorelei both raised their eyebrows.

"You're voluntarily giving us more coffee?" Jackie asked in disbelief. Usually they had to fight Luke to get more coffee.

"You look like you need it today," Luke answered rationally.

"I'm fine," Jackie said through gritted teeth. Both of her friends rolled their eyes.

"Yeah, just keep telling yourself that," Lorelei shot back. Jackie said nothing. In the meantime, Rory sat in her chair reading Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen, immersed in her own world as she ate her waffles.

Suddenly, there was a loud noise as Kirk walked in, fully clothed in a Stars War costume. Jackie knew from hanging out in the basement so many years that he was dressed up as Luke Skywalker. She smirked. Knowing Eric, he had dressed up as Luke Skywalker too. Maybe there would be a fight between Jedi warriors. She almost snorted at the idea.

Lorelei and Jackie exchanged a look before cracking up laughing. Luke was barely succeeding in keeping a grin of his face. Kirk turned around. "What?" he asked with raised hands. "What's so funny?"

"Nothing," Jackie shot back through a laugh. Kirk glared at her. Not that the glare was frightening in any way, however, since it came from Kirk.

'Don't make me use the Force on you!" he threatened. Unfortunately, his threat just made the whole diner laugh. Lorelei and Jackie were laughing so hard that they were practically on the floor. Rory, already jolted out of her little world, joined in the laughter.

At that exact moment, the gang chose to walk into the diner. Luckily, everyone was too busy laughing to notice the tension in the room. Hyde made eye contact with Jackie, and she immediately looked away. Luke noticed this and scowled. There was no way this guy was going near Jackie again. He simply wouldn't allow it. "Hey, you!" he barked at Hyde. "Get out of my diner!"

Hyde looked at him in disbelief. "Are you serious?" the burnout asked.

"Does it look like I'm kidding?" Luke retorted, a scowl in place.

"Luke, don't," Jackie said quietly. "It's not worth it." Even after hearing Jackie's plead, he still was angry. Eric, sensing a fight, stepped in. "Hey now, maybe we can settle this…" He trailed off after seeing Kirk's costume. "Oh, no! I'm the only Luke Skywalker around here, pal!"

"You wish," Kirk snorted. Everyone watched this nerd fight with fascination.

"I challenge you to a Jedi battle!" Eric shouted.

"Challenge accepted," Kirk replied coolly. "Tomorrow in the town square at two o'clock. Be there."

"I will," the scrawny geek shot back. Kirk walked away smugly.

"Wow," Lorelei commented. "I don't think I've ever seen Kirk that cocky before." Jackie nodded in agreement. Meanwhile, Luke and Hyde kept hurling insults back and forth at each other. Finally, Hyde crossed the line.

"So have you slept with Jackie yet? If not, I'm surprised. That girl usually gets around quick," Hyde sneered. He knew none of the things he was saying was true, but he'd had to say it. It was part of his act, his denial.

Luke took one look at him and took a long swing, knocking the sunglasses of her face and nailing him in the nose. Hyde fell back, but Kelso and Eric caught him before he hit the ground. Jackie looked at Donna. "Get him out of here," she said coldly. The guys walked out, but Jackie waved Donna, Brooke, and Laurie over to her table. "Come eat with us," she invited softly. Donna internally breathed a sigh of relief. Maybe Jackie would forgive her after all. Meanwhile, Vanessa, Harry, and Besty watched the adults curiously. This was the aunt they had never known. Betsy remembered her uncle's plan and put her cutest smile on her face. It was showtime.
