Ch 7 Sucker Punch
Emmett honked and hollered from his jeep like a child and I rushed downstairs before the neighbors decided to throw something at him. "Emmett!" I hissed. "Shut up."
He kissed my cheek and sat back down on the seat, grinning like a fool with one hand on the steering wheel. "Hey Bells, nice to see you too." He pulled away after I got settled in. "Sheesh, I think Edward's rubbing off on you too much." He muttered and I laughed.
"You act like that's a horrible thing." He gave me a, 'get real' look and I put my hands up. "Depending, depending."
"The boy is a doofus." Says the other doofus. "It's okay, I still love him."
I slipped on a pair of sunglasses and smiled. "I'm telling you, you really do have a secret affair with him behind mine and Rose's back."
"Maybe." He popped stopping at the red light.
"How are things with Rose?"
He instantly smiled. "They're great, Bells. I love her a lot as I'm sure you know." He winked. "It's been a shitload of a journey to get here with her, but we've made it."
"You guys are perfect, you make each other happy." I noted.
"I try to. I try to be the opposite of what Royce was," he stated his voice hardening. "Demanding, controlling, possessive—oppressive." He continued making a right. "I don't ever want her to be the miserable blonde girl again."
I smiled at his kindness. "I don't think she ever will be," it was true. "At least not with you by her side,"
"Thanks Bella, that means a lot." His voice was warm and sincere. We probably rode around town for an hour just killing time and chatting about time before he had to refill on gas. "So how are the midget's plans for her wedding?" He asked pumping the gas with one hand.
"She's beyond excited I'll tell you that much." I answered switching the radio station to something less aggressive than his rock music.
"I think she's been planning her wedding since birth." He mocked and I had to agree with him. Alice has always loved the idea of marriage, I guess because she was always surrounded by a happy successful one such as her parents who adored each other every day more and more, as well as their children.
"They're going to be happy." I whispered in a happy daze for her.
"She snatched his heart and he hers." He responded half-jokingly. "I never would've imagined such early marriage but it fits her."
I nodded once and he put the pump back, hopping back into the driver's seat when he received a phone call. "Edward, man!" He greeted in his usual cheery mood. "I'm with her now she's sitting next to me." He glanced at me. "Uh huh," he popped. "We were both bored. Alright, don't get your thong in a twist." He started snickering as he passed me the phone.
"Hi baby," I said and he chuckled.
"Hi babe, how are you?"
"I'm driving around with Emmett."
"Actually you're more of a passenger getting the thrill while I drive." I glared at him for his stupidity.
"Good luck, beautiful." I said good bye and hung up.
"Where are we going?" I asked when I saw he was going into Port Angeles.
"To eat," he stated like if it were obvious. "Where else!"
"If you wanted food, I could've cooked! I have no money."
He parked outside a small pizzeria and he unbuckled his seatbelt in a hurry. "Come on," he insisted and I had to drag myself out. This was embarrassing, I forgot to bring money.
"Emmett," I called as he held the door open for me.
"Oh shut up, Bella. I'm going to pay for you!" He answered running over to the counter. I groaned and just sat down at the first vacant table I saw. Emmett was deciding over what to get, like always being a complicated child. I grabbed a napkin and started to twist it in between my fingers waiting for him to return, my stomach growled. Guess I'm hungry…
I clutched my stomach and laughed. If Emmett would've heard that he would've bragged the entire time that he was right for coming to eat. A shadow of a figure covered the small sunlight that glistened on the table. "If it isn't Bella," a familiar voice said and I froze.
Of course! I looked up slowly greeted with familiar black hair and a cocky smile. Augustus. Again. I sighed. "Hi Augustus," He took it upon himself to pull up a chair and sit down beside me. I shuffled slightly away from him but he paid that no mind.
"How are you?"
"Fine," I answered. "You?"
"I'm good now," he chuckled. "How was college?"
"Fine." I answered again, playing with the napkin in between my fingers.
"Are you going to keep saying fine?" he raised an eyebrow. "Aren't you supposed to be abroad for college?" I questioned. He was always in the most unexpected places. Christ!
He grimaced. "I got kicked out of the program." He admitted with a heavy sigh of remorse. "I let my grades slip dramatically." I kind of felt bad for him; that must be horrible.
"I'm sorry to hear." I said honestly and he smacked his lips together.
"Don't worry about it." he waved his hand off with a casual expression before he started craning his neck to look over me. "Are you here alone?" He asked coolly and I frowned.
"No."
He assessed my answer. Something told me he wasn't completely convinced with it. Where the hell is Emmett? "Really?" I didn't even acknowledge him anymore; the guy's the biggest pain in the ass. "I could join you and your friend if you'd like." How about no?
"Bella," Emmett called from behind Augustus and I let out a breath of relief. Thank god. Augustus turned in his chair, standing when he saw Emmett with humor on his face. "Emmett?" He questioned. "Did you leave Cullen for Emmett?"
"Oh boy," Emmett shook his head.
"Or did Cullen leave you? I told you it would happen. I'm guessing he's fucked you and got his fill?" He raised an eyebrow and I stood up sharply annoyed at his fucking ignorance and persistence, fisting my hands at my side.
"No, he didn't leave me—"
"Sleeping with his best friend?" He laughed once completely disregarding my previous statement like nothing. "Ballsy aren't you?" Before he could even have another reaction, he was grabbed by the collar and thrown into the wall.
"Ballsy aren't you?" Emmett repeated furiously. "I never liked you." He smiled and swiftly brought his fist back then launched it forward so it connected with his face. You heard the cinematic sound effects and I gasped, covering my mouth with my hands. Holy fuck! Go Emmett! "I'm not one to warn about 'next time's' I like to live in the moment." He continued as Augustus cupped the left side of his face groaning. "My mother did always say I was impulsive." He muttered sourly. "Don't ever talk about Bella like that again you little bitch. It'll be a shit load worst, I fucking promise you. I won't do any worst because I'm hungry and you're not worth my food getting cold." He threatened and extended his hand for me to take. I grabbed it and we walked out with a slice of pizza he had managed to save from hitting the floor unlike the rest of our food.
"Wow…" I breathed still in shock. Augustus has been such an annoying prick and has been testing everyone every time we've met but I didn't think Emmett would hit him! He definitely saved Edward the job of doing that! Oh shit Edward's going to be furious…
"You okay?" He asked and I nodded as we loaded into the Jeep.
"Yeah, damn Em."
He shrugged. "I never liked him in high school. Hypocritical fuck." He sneered turning the ignition on. "Plus, Edward's told me about how much he's bothered you because he wants you. I've been definitely waiting for this moment." He pulled out. "No one gets to talk to you like that, Bells."
"You didn't have to do that. Most of your food went to the floor!"
He laughed. "Don't worry I'll buy something on the way. And hell no, that was not going to happen while I was around. Jasper and Edward would've done the same trust me—hell! I think even Carlisle would do something!" I laughed. "I would do it again without hesitation, no regrets." He stopped. "Well maybe one, just that Eddie boy is going to be pretty mad he didn't hit him."
"Great," I muttered sarcastically. We fought over the pizza and we ended up just splitting it and buying some chips at the deli around the block to munch on. It was nearing four in the afternoon and Alice called us inviting us over. Em raced in his Jeep like a maniac going way above the speed limit, howling while I clutched the seatbelt for dear life.
The car stopped abruptly and I swear I could feel my heart in my stomach pounding at an incredible speed. "You don't look so good." He noted and I blinked rapidly trying to settle my queasy stomach.
"Don't you think that was a little…too…fast." I slowly got out, holding myself up on the door of the car until my world balanced again.
He shrugged. "Not really, Rose likes it faster." He winked and I wrinkled my nose in disgust.
"Ew," he barked in laughter knocking of the Cullens' front door when Esme opened the door.
"Hello, dears." She greeted kissing our cheeks.
"Hi Esme," I said feeling better than twenty seconds ago. Alice was in the kitchen and ran out towards me.
"Bella!" She hugged me and I knew she wanted me, or she really just missed me…I'm going with choice one. "I've missed your face and so has Edward." She nudged her head to the kitchen and I saw Edward rounding the corner. "He whined like a five year old all day today to Esme about missing you." She accused half-heartedly and I laughed. "She's right." Esme said wiping her hands with the towel. "It's like he goes backwards instead of forward in aging."
"I'm right here!" He called waving his hand and Alice ignored him. He ran over and nuzzled our noses.
"Hi baby," he murmured kissing my cheek and I smiled.
"Hi Edward,"
Esme excused herself to continue sorting things out for her project on her sketch pad. We were all chatting and laughing at Emmett's jokes when he brought up the whole pizzeria incident. Crap. "So guess who we ran into when Bella and I went to eat pizza, Eddie?"
He narrowed his eyes at him, hating that he called him 'Eddie'. "Edward." He growled. "Who?" He continued and I put my hand on my forehead.
"Augustus Welch, my friend." Edward's chest stopped moving and there was suddenly an awkward silence. "Augustus?" Edward gritted through his teeth like a curse and both Emmett and I nodded. "What happened?" That question was more directed to me.
"Well," I started, looking from where to start. "You see…" Alice raised an eyebrow and Edward just looked impatient. "Uhm…"
"Good god woman!" Emmett exasperated.
"Emmett punched him?" It sounded like a question.
"I did." He affirmed and Edward tightened his hand into a fist on top of the counter, his knuckles cutting circulation. I ran my fingers over them to try and get him to loosen them but he wouldn't budge.
"Why."
"He was being a prick, why else."
I bit my lift squirming. "He basically concluded that you left me because you had sex with me and now I was with Emmett to get back at you."
I swear I felt his arm around me lose all form of warmth turning into a block of ice. I gripped it tightly. "MOTHERFUCKER!" He yelled and I jumped scared as did Alice. "He doesn't fucking get it that I want him away from you and for him to never to talk to you like that, does he?!" His face reddened with anger and his blood was pulsing fast through his veins.
"Dude, you take too long with the threatening I say act on impulse." Emmett shrugged. "Which is what I did; now he has a black eye and probably a broken nose."
"I'll break something else." Edward hissed untangling himself from me and I grabbed his arm, shaking my head. "No."
"Let go, Bella." He tugged but I pulled back.
"Cut it out. It happened already Edward, I think this time he really got the message." I said trying to knock some sense into him. He had no need to go looking for Augustus to finish beating him—no matter how much I disliked him—he was better than him and I didn't want him to get in trouble. Blah, I can't believe I ever thought the guy was nice and cute.
"She's right," Alice chimed in and he turned his glare at her. She put her fists on her hips and started tapping her foot. "Don't give me that look. Emmett is right for once,"
"What the—"
"You waited too long, he did it for you. There's no need to finish rearranging his face."
"That's up for debate."
"No." I cut in and his head snapped back to me. "Who gives a crap? It's over with I don't need you going to jail." His face remained angry. "Charlie would absolutely love to hear that one if you ended up down in the station."
"I wouldn't doubt your father would give me the right on this." He was right, again.
"Next time you see him you can do whatever, just don't go looking for him." I pled clutching his hand. He gazed down at our hands, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath.
"I will see him again. He has it coming." There was no stopping him that's for sure, but for now I can prolong this conflict.
A/N: I'm thinking about posting another story on here but I'm not sure, so if I stop posting for a while I might be working on that one or trying to gather all my ideas together to meet the end I imagine for this story :)
