Survival Led by God

Chapter 6: The Weapons of Van Helsing

All was quiet. There was no sound of anything. The world these days could be really quiet, but occasionally, you could hear some walkers doing the unholy sound they made as they marched the earth with no other goal than getting their next meal, even though they didn't need to. The walkers didn't need anything in order to survive. Only a bullet to the head or something piercing the brain killed them.

As he marched along the quiet road as the sun shone bright as ever, Van Helsing couldn't help but hope to have the same ability. By all means, he didn't wish to be a walker, but as he hadn't eaten properly for awhile, he almost envied them. Almost.

He had known, from the moment he had met the Governor that the man was not one to be trusted. That had turned out to be true. It wasn't all that surprising either. The people in power tend to do bad things. That's just the way it was. Now, with walkers walking around, it was clearer than ever. Because of the Governor, Rick and his group had some hard times ahead of them.

He should have followed the Dixons. He just knew should've. Like Andrea had. Instead, he had chosen to get to another church in Georgia. One, where was a safe zone. Or, that's what he had heard at the day of the outbreak. He hadn't gone there; however, as he felt like he didn't need a safe zone to survive. Now though, he wanted to see if what was told was true. Not for himself, but for the few innocent people inside the walls of Woodbury.

After that and only after that would he go back to the Dixons and Andrea to the prison and introduce himself to Rick Grimes, the man that the Governor feared.

There was no sound as he walked; following the map he had taken from the Vatican's hideout. It would take him a few more hours to get there.

He only hoped it wasn't for nothing.

The group in the prison was taken by surprise as the Governor had arrived with his people. The appearance of Daryl and Merle Dixon had made them slightly more ready, but they didn't expect an all-out-attack from the Governor of Woodbury. They answered the fire with their guns, but the Governor just simply had more firepower.

In the middle of it all, Daryl shared a glance with his brother and nodded. It was a good thing they had taken some of Van Helsing's guns with them. The weapons the man had were simply amazing. They looked outdated, but the mechanism in them was something truly unique. They truly were pieces of art.

Daryl pulled out a small gun with a scope from his belt and made sure the safety was off, before taking a glance at the attackers. It seemed that even though he had more firepower, the Governor had less people who knew how to shoot. Their aim was off, giving Daryl an opening to attack. He rose to his feet from behind the cover and aimed quickly, pulling the trigger of the weapon. The gun fired one single bullet upwards, making Daryl lift his eyebrows. He had expected more from the gun. He almost turned to look at Merle when once the bullet was over the Governor's people, it split to ten smaller bullets that rained down on the attackers. A few managed to avoid the bullets, but most of the bullets hit their target. The whole battleground went quiet after that.

Daryl blinked and looked at the pistol looking gun in his hands. It seemed to use special bullets in it for them to split like that. Too bad he hadn't realized that beforehand. Merle was also staring at the gun with his mouth open, before realizing it and closing his mouth. If a small gun like that could do that kind of damage, what could a bigger gun do?

Merle looked at the car that was in the middle of the yard. All the other guns they had taken were at the back of the truck. With the pause in the firefight, they could try and get to the other guns and use them to, if not completely kill them, drive the attackers away. He looked at his brother, before shifting to look at Rick, who was staring at the Dixons.

"Hey, Officer friendly! I've got a plan. We gotta get to that car and get the rest of 'ese weapons for the fight!" Merle said and Rick seemed to consider it, before nodding. It was the best plan they had, even though it left a lot of holes to fill.

"Alright, Merle, Daryl, you get the weapons. Daryl, give me the gun you just used. I'll use it for distraction", Rick ordered, getting a nod from the Dixon as Daryl handed the gun to Rick, even though Merle looked a little hesitant.

After getting the gun, Rick looked at the others in his group, before taking a deep breath. "Listen up! Daryl and Merle brought some weapons with them. We're going to use them to push the enemy back. On my mark, you all open fire on the attackers, ready?" Rick spoke with authority, getting nods from everyone as they readied themselves. The Governor seemed to be on guard at the moment, but they didn't have must time.

Rick took aim with the gun Daryl had given him and looked at the Dixons, getting a nod from Daryl, before shouting:

"NOW!"

The silence was broken by the sound of shooting as everyone in the prison shot at the Governor and his people. Even as they had taken cover, the Governor was losing men. The bullet that Rick had shot dealt a lot of damage, but as the Governor's people were aware of such an attack, they managed to evade it easier. This all was enough distraction for the Dixons to get to the car without a problem.

Merle quickly grabbed a few guns, before taking cover next to Daryl behind the car. He handed one of them to Daryl, who took it and examined it.

The weapon was a crossbow, similar to the one Van Helsing had used back in the church. It had a round magazine, which, once opened, showed it had wooden stakes in place of arrows. It also had a scope to make aiming easier. It was dark silver in color and its handle was made of oak wood.

Merle's weapon was different. It looked like a rifle, with a scope and everything, but it had a round magazine on the left side of it. Like the weapon Daryl had, it was dark silver in color, with oak wood handle.

With a quick glance at each other, the Dixons rose from their cover and aimed quickly. Daryl went for a female near the Governor and Merle went for a male to far left. They shot at the same time, before taking cover as a spray of bullets hit their cover. Daryl's crossbow shot a wooden stake, like Van Helsing's and it hit the female right between her eyes. Merle's weapon shot a silver bullet that split in two midair; killing two people instead of the sole male he had aimed at.

They shared a glance once more, before readying another shot. Suddenly, a spray of wooden stakes hit the men of Governor from far right, near the forest line. The Governors people scattered and the Governor furiously ordered his men to fight as some were already fleeing without caring about his orders. The remaining Woodbury residents fled quickly, followed by the furious Governor and soon the shooting ended as well.

The Dixons walked casually to the fence as they knew the person had to be either Van Helsing or Andrea, but Rick and the rest held their guns defensively, not knowing who the shooter was. Everyone with the exception of the Dixons were surprised at who the person was:

Andrea.

Van Helsing jumped to the side of the road as he heard a sound of an engine. He had hoped he wouldn't be getting in contact with any new people, as proved by the Governor; they weren't always to be trusted. He readied his crossbow and lied on his stomach, doing his best to not be seen. It didn't take long for a car to appear on the road. It was a black low-rider. Van Helsing put his head down as the car sped past him and waited for a moment, before looking up at the car. There was a white cross at the back window of the car. He stayed still, till the car disappeared from sight. Whit a sigh, Van Helsing got up and dusted off his clothes, ready to move.

"Not so fast, cowboy", a voice said, making Van Helsing stop in his tracks. He slowly looked around him, only to see a group of men holding him at gunpoint.

A graying man somewhere in his late fifties walked forward to meet up with Van Helsing, who slowly rose to his feet fully. The man had a gray beard and hair. He was wearing blue jeans and gray shoes that had dirt on them. He also had a long-sleeved black collared shirt with roses on it underneath a gray jean vest.

The man eyed Van Helsing, before looking him straight in the eyes. "Drop the crossbow."

Van Helsing stared at the man for a few seconds before glancing at all the people pointing their guns at him. He could take them on. He dropped the weapon in front of him.

"I claim the hat", someone called out. The others said what they claimed also, but the apparent leader just stared Van Helsing in the eyes.

"Who are you?" Van Helsing asked casually; not at all afraid of these people. This seemed to make the leader interested as a sudden gleam entered his eyes.

"My name's Joe and these here are what I like to call 'The Clamers'" the man, Joe, informed Van Helsing, who just nodded, not taking his eyes off the man.

"Well, Joe, as interesting as meeting you has been, I'd like to be on my way", Van Helsing said, smiling slightly at the man. Joe just lifted his eyebrows and looked at the other people.

"Well, fellas, what do you say? Will we let this man be on his way?" he asked with a slight grin threatening to get to his face. The other members of The Claimers chuckled slightly and shook their head. Then Joe turned back to Van Helsing.

"No can do, cowboy. The court has spoken", he said and threw a punch at Van Helsing, who sidestepped the attack and with swift movement grabbed the arm and brought it around to the back of Joe in a painful way. Van Helsing wrapped his other arm around Joe's neck to avoid him breaking the hold.

The Claimers were all stunned by the turn of events. They hadn't had a change to do anything as this unknown man had turned the tides to his favor.

"Now, as I said, I'd like to be on my way, understand?" he asked Joe, who was gritting his teeth in pain.

"I understand", Joe said simply and Van Helsing let him go and went to pick up his crossbow, only for Joe to pull out a pistol and point it at him.

"Think you're being clever, huh?" the leader of the Claimers asked with serious expression. The others had their guns pointed at Van Helsing once again.

Van Helsing just sighed.

"A shame", he said. Before anyone could react, he pulled out two small guns from his pockets and shot at the men around him. They all went down with cries of pain and Van Helsing pocketed his guns, before looking down at Joe. He had used paralyzing bullets that didn't kill.

"I'll let you people live, as killing you would accomplish nothing. But, if I see you again, I'm not so sure", he said and picked the crossbow up.

He resumed his trip to the safe zone.

The Governor was furious at the way they had been forced to leave. It didn't make any sense. What were all those weapons and where had they come from? There must be more of them than just the three Rick and the Dixons used. The thought of the Dixon brothers made him even angrier. He just knew they would be trouble. Merle he could've handled, but Daryl as well?

He drove past all the residents of Woodbury, shouting furiously for them to stop as he stopped in front of the line of vehicles. The people came from the vehicles and approached him.

"What the hell are you doing? We need to dig in!" he shouted at them and the people started shouting about "it not being worth it" and "the enemy having better weapons" among other non-sense like that. The Governor furiously paced around as his people argued with each other.

Suddenly, something inside Phillip Blake snapped as he started shooting at everyone. Only Shumpert and Martinez were spared from his fury as they were smart enough not to oppose him.

When the Governor sat in the car with Shumpert and Martinez, the only thing in his mind was revenge.

How was it? Good? Bad? Let me know!
