Chapter 6

"Sir, this is the sixth squad we've lost to Zeus. Conventional tactics aren't going to cut it here."

"I think I know that already, Sergeant. I also think you and your men forget that Zeus was a Lieutenant before she left. That was two years ago."

"Then explain to me exactly what I should be doing, Major. Unless you're too caught up in that little love affair of..."

"Another word out of your mouth on that topic and I will demote your ass down to Private. And you know how things work around here: you want to challenge the way a superior officer does things? We can duel for command. So unless you're prepared to put up, I'd suggest you shut the fuck up. Do I make myself clear?"

"Yes, sir"

"Good, you are dismissed. You'll be briefed on our new hunting strategies later this week during the meeting."

*Sergeant walks away*

*Major picks up a scroll*

"This is a message to Lieutenant 'Typhoon' from Major 'Inferno'. You are to report to my office immediately. We've people to work with and a message to send."

Daniel

I'm not sure what's worse: taking down that Goliath or waiting for our names to be called for team creation. After initiation, the survivors were given two hours to clean up before this ceremony and it definitely shows on most of them. Alice doesn't look like she's even broken a sweat this entire time, which, considering her blatant show of ability against Grimm, probably isn't too far fetched.

"Oi! Daniel!"

I turn and see Tom and Lynda running over to me. They seem to have recovered well.

"Yes Tom? Hello again, Lynda"

Lynda briefly responds before Tom throws an arm over my shoulder, "I've been meaning to ask you but how did you know I had a crossbow on me?"

"If you want to conceal a weapon," I point to his upper thigh before using the distraction to throw his arm off me, "don't put the ammo for it in plain sight"

Tom laughs before punching me in the arm.

"That hurt, damn it" I glare at Tom.

Tom puts his hands up sheepishly, but his grin betrays any sense of regret.

"Knock it off you two, the ceremony is starting" Lynda says, whacking Tom over the head for good measure.

"Waa... What did I do?" Tom answers, but a rather threatening fist from Lynda shuts him up for good.

Alice

"... You four will make up Team CRDL. Led by, Cardin Winchester."

Those four are going to be ones to look out for, especially Mr. Winchester. That family is definitely known for their hunting prowess, but it tended to extend to all kinds of non-pure humans. It's something Lynda's going to need to be concerned about if my hunch is right.

Ozpin starts up again, Goodwitch glaring at me from just off stage. "Daniel Wilkof, Lynda Smith, Thomas Kame, and..."

"... Alice 'Storm'"

"Blake? What's wrong"

The raven haired girl slowly pulls her eyes away from the stage and meets her fiery partner's gaze.

"Err..., nothing. Why do you ask?"

"It looks kinda like you just saw a ghost."

"I'm fine, Yang."

"Whatever"

At this point, Blake would have almost preferred to have seen a ghost. It might have been a year and a half ago, but her image was still burned into her head.

"... Storm..."

Alice

'Storm'? I guess the old man was right after all. I find myself in a very interesting situation now, and I'm not counting the fact that Ozpin's grinning straight at me while Goodwitch is burrowing her eyes into the back of my head.

"You four will make up Team DLTA. Led by, Daniel Wilkof"

Dan appears to be in a state of shock from the announcement and the roar of applause. A quick shake on the shoulder snaps him out of his haze, a seemingly unnecessary gesture as Tom grabs Dan and raises him into the air. Tom's got his trademark gin on his face while Dan attempts to hide his joy behind a frown.

Lynda reaches up and grabs Tom by his collar, dragging him off stage with a small look of amusement. She looks over at me and I grin at her, mouthing "boys". She rolls her eyes and pushes Tom the rest of the way.

As we make it off the stage and Tom manages to wriggle his way out of Lynda's grip, I give her a quick tap on the shoulder to get her attention.

"I don't think we were ever properly introduced, Lynda" I say, putting my hand out for her. She takes it before giggling slightly, "Well, you looked like you were about to murder me out in the forest, Alice."

It's my turn to roll my eyes, "I guess so. Oh, I almost forgot to thank you for that shot back there. You must have quite the 'hawk eye' to have made a shot like that"

Lynda's eyes widen in surprise before she forces them back to a more neutral look. "Err... Thanks"

I give her what I can hope is a comforting smile before checking up on our male counter-parts. Judging from Daniel's ruffled hair, amused look on his face, and extended wrist blade, Tom's been screwing with him again. I turn back to the stage as Dan stalks after Tom, blade threateningly raised.

As my eyes hit the stage in time to see four almost color-coded girls, I wish I could have just gone after Dan. As if on cue, Ozpin conveniently confirms what I've seen.

"... Blake Belladonna..."

Son of a bitch.

A/N: I apologize for how short this chapter ended up coming out. However, I figured I should end this on a semi-happy note while still throwing in a bit of a cliffhanger before this series starts to get into all the deliciously dark and gory parts. Hope you guys enjoyed it.
