The smell of smelling salts brought Jesse Potter into awareness. She groaned and turning her head in an attempt to escape the smell, feeling a headache coming on.

"There she is," an unfamiliar voice said.

"Jesse, are you alright?" That was her godfather.

She opened her eyes slowly. The walls around her were white, sterile. She was laying on an examination table. Sirius was holding her hand and brushing her hair away from her face. A woman she didn't know - the healer - stood next to him holding a small bottle of smelling salts.

"Jesse?" Sirius prompted.

"I - why'd I faint?" She asked, her cheeks warming up. It was like third year all over again, except without dementors around to blame. Malfoy would have a riot with this.

Speaking of, Jesse sat up and looked around the room. It was neat, sanitized like every doctor office. The Malfoys stood against the wall, each eyeing her as if she would fall over again any minute.

She looked away from them, back to her new healer. She looked younger than Jesse would have thought with short black hair and a simple purple robe. A small badge was on her chest with her name, Fawley, typed in block lettering. When she spoke, Jesse couldn't help but to relax, as her warm voice soothed her.

"You were too stressed. Your blood pressure shot up as you had a panic attack which made you dizzy. Tell me, have you been dizzy often?" Healer Fawley asked.

"Er- yeah," Jesse said. "All the time."

Sirius was frowning and his hand tightened around hers but the healer simply nodded her head and wrote something on her clipboard she was holding that Jesse hadn't noticed before.

"Is that bad? Is my baby okay?" Jesse asked belatedly, putting her hands on her stomach. She couldn't believe it had taken her so long to ask about her baby's wellbeing. She was going to be a terrible mother.

"The baby wasn't effected by your fainting spell," the healer said. "Dizziness can be a common symptom, but fainting isn't. I know this is a stressful situation, but you need to relax. For the good of yourself and the baby, okay?"

Healer Fawley spoke in a matter of fact way that Jesse found herself liking. She wasn't accusing Jesse of anything, but simply informing her of the facts she needed to know. She was treating her as if Jesse Potter was a she was a normal expecting mother instead of the fourteen-year-old Girl Who Lived To Screw Up.

Jesse nodded to show she understood.

"I'm going to cast some diagnostic spells now," Healer Fawley said, though she waited for Jesse to nod again before raising her hand. "You are going to have to not touch her Sirius."

Sirius? Jesse wondered if they knew each other.

"Of course, Meredith," Sirius said, squeezing Jesse's hand one last tine before sitting in the one chair in the room.

Meredith? They definitely knew each other. Did she used to be his healer too? Jesse really wanted to know more about Sirius and his family, but she had to push that out of her mind at the moment as Healer Fawley started shooting spells at her.

To not flinch was impossible. Even though the spells felt like nothing as they hit Jesse's body, and nothing bad happened either. A piece of parchment appeared in front of the healer. Jesse assumed writing was appearing on it though she didn't look at it until she finished casting her spells.

"You are officially ten weeks pregnant," Healer Fawley said as she grabbed the parchment out of the air. "Your due date is approximately September 17th give or take. The chances of you reaching your due date are low considering your age and slight frame. You are also malnourished so we definitely need to focus on fixing that."

"Malnourished?" Sirius spoke up. Jesse winced. "Why is she malnourished? Jesse, why are you malnourished?"

Jesse looked down so she didn't have to anybody's face, but she didn't speak. The felt the stares of everyone in the room burned into the side of her face.

"There are many reasons malnutrition can happen. Simply from diet choices or situations that are out of the person's hands. Low income families often face this problem; however, Hogwarts typically provides a reprieve with always having all sorts of food available. Though, severe cases will not be as simply fixed that way, and I think that is Ms. Potter's problem. These scans show this is a long-term problem."

"Long-term?" Sirius choked out.

Still Jesse refused to look up or to speak.

"I think I might know why," Mr. Malfoy said.

What?

"How would you know?" Sirius demanded.

Yeah. How?

"When transferring Potter's guardianship, I had to get her guardians' signatures."

Oh no.

"They were, uh, very outspoken about their dislike of magic." Mr. Malfoy's voice practically dripped with his contempt for her relatives. For the first time, Jesse agreed with him on something. "And they were very eager to sign away all rights to their niece. In fact, they wanted to make sure that we wouldn't try to give her back to them."

Sirius's outrage knew no bounds. He raged about how anyone would be lucky to raise Jesse to demanding from Mr. Malfoy what exactly was said at this meeting to trying to leave to teach the Dursleys a lesson to asking Jesse exactly how her childhood went and why hadn't she told him sooner.

Throughout this Jesse kept her eyes on her battered shoes, her cheeks feeling on fire. Sure, she mentioned casually about how she disliked living with the Dursleys, and she had asked the Headmaster every year whether she could stay at Hogwarts over the summer. However, that was completely different than people knowing about how they treated her. Especially in front of the Malfoys. Draco. The boy who always made fun of her for staying at the castle during Christmas and Easter break because she had no family to go home to.

Bullocks and she was expecting a baby with him. Why? Because he was nice once. Merlin she was pathetic.

"I think this should be a discussion for another time," Mrs. Malfoy spoke up for the first time. "Right now, we need information on how to keep Miss Potter and the baby healthy for this pregnancy."

Sirius looked like he was seriously considering arguing with her, but Jesse looked up at him beseechingly and he relented.

"Okay but we will be talking about this later," he said.

Jesse nodded.

"Alright. Your baby is about an inch long and about ten ounces. You can think about it as the size of a strawberry," Healer Fawley said, looking in between her clipboard and Jesse.

"And that's good?" Jesse asked anxiously.

Healer Fawley smiled and nodded. "Yes that's good. The baby is starting to grow hair and fingernails. Their stomach and lungs are forming nicely. They will be starting to kick a little bit as well as swallowing."

Jesse was sure that she looked ridiculous with a slack jaw and wide eyes, but she couldn't help but to feel amazed. For the first time she was thinking of this baby as a living thing that was growing inside of her. She put her hands on her stomach which if she didn't know she was pregnant, she would simply assume she was bloated and that her period was coming soon.

"Are you having bad morning sickness?" the healer asked.

"Yes ma'am."

"I can get you some potion for that as well though don't expect it to completely go away. Crackers and tea will become your friends. If you drink any coffee you need to stop. Headaches and mood swings will start to happen. You're going to start gaining weight, and you will be tired more often so make sure you are resting as much as possible, okay?"

"Yes ma'am."

"You will need have an alternate for your potions class. Some ingredients can be bad for the baby. Any spell casting on yourself is discouraged. Don't take any potions unless I approve them first. I have a couple of books here for here that you can take with you. It covers your pregnancy week by week telling you what to expect and what you can do to prepare yourself. I also have a couple of parenting books that include what to expect, different styles of parenting, and special parenting spells that are good to learn."

Healer Fawley lifted up a stack of five books that Sirius grabbed a hold of. Jesse smiled.

"Thank you," she said, sure that this wasn't normal for a healer and that she was going above and beyond.

The healer smiled back and clapped her hands together. "Now, would you like to see your baby?"

"Yes! Of course," Jesse exclaimed,

"Alright, just lay down and let me put this gel on you. It'll be cold," she warned.

Jesse hissed as the gel touched her, compulsively sucking her stomach in for a moment.

"Next time we should be able to hear their heartbeat, but for now . . . ." Healer Fawley waved her wand twice of Jesse's stomach and then there of was Jesse's and Draco's baby.

It wasn't clear, just a small little person that wasn't even fully formed, but it was enough to for Jesse to start crying. She felt someone come stand beside her. With a glance she saw it was Draco. He had a look of awe on his face that she was sure matched her own.

"Can we get pictures?" Mr. Malfoy asked.

Surprised, Jesse looked around. Mrs. Malfoy had tears in her eyes and she was clutching Mr. Malfoy's arm. Mr. Malfoy was staring just as intently as his wife but his face was as still and blank as ever.

"Already done," Healer Fawley announced.

The picture flickered and then disappeared. The healer handed out an ultrasound to each of them. Jesse barely noticed her stomach getting cleaned as she gripped the picture in her hands. Sirius helped her off of the examination table, handing her his copy of the ultrasound before transforming into Snuffles again.

"Alright," Mrs. Malfoy clapped her hands together once. "Now onto shopping."
