Hale House, February 18, 2011...

Emma stared out the second story window. She watched as Jackson ran out of the house. His shirt was torn and his side was bleeding. Emma could see the fear and tears as the boy ran off into the night. She sensed Derek's presence as he entered the room. She inhaled deeply, his natural scent filling her nose. It was soothing. "You will regret turning Jackson," she said, keeping her back to him.

"He's young," Derek countered. "And strong."

"Vain," she corrected. "And...repressed."

Derek slowly walked over, keeping his eyes on Emma. "I've seen worse turned. I've seen better turned. Not many beg for the bite."

Derek stood directly behind her now. His chest only an inch from her back. He raised his hand and brushed her hair away from her neck, gently rubbing his thumb against her skin. Emma turned around to face him, her gaze raising to meet his. "You want to grow your pack?"

He lowered his hand to her upper arm, caressing the curves of her muscles. "Jackson and Scott are a start."

"And me?" Emma searched his eyes. "Do you want me? Do you think I can make you strong like Peter said? Like he thought I would make him?"

Derek let his hand slide off her arm. He studied her sincerity and sighed. "I'm not Peter. But I am an Alpha. I need a pack to make myself strong and rebuild my family's legacy." He raised his head and glanced around at the burned, rotting walls of his ancestral home. "My family has been here for nearly 300 years. And in one night, it was destroyed. I won't let it end."

Emma exhaled slowly as she processed his words and their meaning. "And...do you want me to help you? Build your pack? Rebuild your family? Do you want me in your pack?"

Derek met her gaze. As he studied her dark brown eyes, he could see a black ring outlying her iris. In the moonlight, her dark eyes carried a tiny hint of amber. "I'm not Peter," he repeated. "I won't force you to join me."

He took a half-step closer. His chest just barely touching hers. "I'll only ask you once."

Before he could ask, Emma latched onto him. She pulled him down and kissed him deeply. Derek wrapped his arms around her, kissing her back with the same passion. As they kissed, they took each other's clothes off in easy, fluid motions. Never once breaking their kiss. Once they were naked, Derek pulled her down into his lap. Small vapors of steam came off their bodies as the cold night air cooled their sweat. Derek paused upon seeing the tattoo on her chest. He traced the lines with her fingers. He recognized the pack symbol. Emma gently turned his head to so that his gaze met hers. "Derek. I'm with you. Until the very end. I'm yours."

Derek felt the urge to smile at her honesty. He slid his fingers into her hair and gently grabbed on, his desire growing. "And I'm yours," he said as he entered her.

Beacon Hills Boutique, February 21, 2011...

Rose gently touched the edges of Isaac's black eye. He winced slightly. Rose lowered her hand and shook her head. "Isaac...why haven't you gone to the police? This is child abuse."

Isaac shook his head as he pressed his lips together. "I can't."

"Why not? Isaac, it's simple."

"No, it's not." He stood up. He paced for a moment then threw his hands up. "I don't even know why I came here. Every time I try to come and see you...you're gone or you have to leave."

"It's comp-"

"It's complicated, I know." Isaac sighed as he looked away. "I need some...some time."

Rose swallowed hard and looked down at her hands. She mimicked Isaac's sigh. "Okay."

"Okay?"

"What do you want me to say, Isaac?"

He studied her blank, careful expression. He exhaled in disappointment. "Maybe there's nothing to say."

She watched him leave the shop. Rose rubbed her wrists, remembering the feeling of being bound in the iron circle. She heard the knocking on the back door. Reluctantly, she got up and went to the back door. She opened it and paused in surprise. Derek and Emma stood outside. Rose pushed the door further open, letting them inside. The two wolves entered quietly. Emma looked around, studying the walls. "Nothing like the witches back home."

"Do you need something?" Rose asked. "I'm guessing a wedding is in order?"

Derek ignored her as he picked up a jar of verbena flowers. "I'm here to recondition our deal."

Rose frowned at him, glancing back and forth between Emma and Derek. "Look, I know I helped Kate kidnap you but that was blackmail. I had to save Conner."

"Relax, I'm not going to force you into servitude." Derek set the jar down. "I want an alliance."

Rose glanced at Emma then thought over his words. "You want to make sure I don't get in your way."

"I know how powerful you really are, Rose." Derek stepped closer, his eyes fixed on her. "And I'm not stupid. I'm going to build my pack. And I need to know that you will extend the same protection that I and my new pack will provide you."

Rose gestured to Emma. "You planning to bite or to literally build a pack?"

Emma glared at Rose. "An Alpha won't remain an Alpha for long unless they start gathering a pack quickly. With me, Derek can hold onto his power longer than any other Alpha would."

"That's why Peter wanted you." Rose scoffed in disbelief. "A true pure-blood...your loyalty must be like steroids for an Alpha."

"More like a long term energy boost," she corrected.

Derek waved off the tension building between the two women. "Look, the alliance is what I want. I don't want you to become my slave. I don't want you as my enemy."

"An alliance? No strings?" she asked.

He nodded. Rose took a deep breath and held out her hand. "Deal."

Beacon Hills High School, February 23, 2011...

Emma waited in Derek's car. Derek got in and sighed in defeat after closing the door. Emma raised an eyebrow at him. He rolled his eyes once he noticed. "Don't say it."

"I won't," she said softly. "What happened?"

"His body is fighting the bite."

Emma exhaled slowly as Derek started the engine. She gazed out the window as she thought. "You bit Jackson 5 days ago. By now, he should be fine. His body shouldn't be fighting it now."

Derek shrugged. "I don't know. At this point, I don't care. Forget Jackson. We need to check on Isaac."

Emma topped her finger against her knee. "It's not Isaac I'm worried about."

Argent Residence...

Chris watched as his father, Gerard, spoke to Victoria in the living room. He sighed and entered the kitchen where a raven-haired woman prepared dinner. To Chris, she was easily the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Her skin is flawless and fair. Her emerald green eyes were focused on the veggies she diced. Chris's eyes became fixed on a necklace she wore. It was a silver chain choker with a red stone pendant hanging from it. He approached the kitchen counter and watched the woman. "How are you, Renee?"

Renee glanced up and smiled at Chris. "I'm good. How are you holding up?"

"As well as can be expected." He sighed and watched her chop up the last of the onions. "Just wish I could of done more. Wish I saw the signs..."

"Don't beat yourself up. Kate had issues."

"Issues?" Chris chuckled slightly. "I think she had more than just issues."

Renee smiled and nodded. She studied Chris' expression, seeing him keep his composure. "But she was still your sister."

Chris softened his smile. He glanced back at Victoria and Gerard, they were lost in their conversation. He moved closer to Renee, keeping his back to his father and wife. He placed his hand on Renee's arm. Renee paused and hesitantly met Chris' gaze. He studied her face. "Can I come see you later?"

Renee glanced over his shoulder at the living room. "What about your wife?"

Chris gently rubbed her wrist with his thumb. "Don't worry about my wife."

Beacon Hills High School, February 29, 2011...

"Hey."

Rose glanced to her right. Isaac leaned against the end of the bleachers. He smiled at her sweetly, holding onto his lacrosse gear. Rose did not return his smile. "Hey."

Isaac stepped onto the bleachers and sat down beside her. Rose closed her textbook and looked away. Isaac tapped his thighs as the awkward tension began to build. "Look, I know I said some things I shouldn't have. But...I want to-well, I was hoping we could...try again."

Rose thought over his words and finally looked at him. "You really want to?"

"Yeah," he said. "I do."

Rose studied his sincerity. She frowned slightly and leaned forward. Isaac leaned in as well, meeting her in a kiss. Rose could feel a newfound sense of confidence in his kiss. The sound of a whistle blowing broke their kiss. Coach Finstock ordered his players down to the field. Isaac gave Rose another kiss then hurried off the bleachers. She smiled happily, watching Isaac hurry to join the line of practice drills. Someone staring caught her eye. Matt Daehler stared her with a curious expression. Rose frowned at him, studying his stare. Matt turned away, putting on his helmet as he got into line. She opened her textbook back up, but could hardly pay attention. She kept glancing up every time Scott tackled a player. She frowned in confusion as she watched him sniff each player. "Idiots."

Coach blew the whistle again. Rose noticed that Isaac was up, recognizing his jersey number. She perked up, realizing what Scott was doing. Isaac and Scott ran at each other. They collided and grabbed onto each other. They spun in the air and fell to the ground on all fours. Rose jolted to her feet. "No fucking way."

She saw Sheriff Stilinski and two deputies walking onto the field from the parking lot. Rose gathered her things, her anger growing. She stomped off the bleachers and headed to her car. She paused and looked over at the edge of the woods, seeing Derek standing beside a tree. She marched over to him, glancing around to make sure no one saw her. "What the actual fuck, Derek?"

"Is that even a question?" he asked.

"Isaac? You had to turn Isaac Lahey?" She shook her head. "Why him?"

Derek studied her angry, hurt expression. "Because he said yes."

She shook her head and turned on her heel, stomping off to her car. "You have a deal," Derek called after her. "We protect you...and you protect us."

"I remember," she grumbled.

He watched her continue on to her car. Derek sighed and turned around. "Well?"

Emma bit her lip as she approached him. "It's bad. Jackson was right. Isaac's father was a monster."

Derek scanned the woods, hearing the sounds of animals scurrying. "This wasn't the plan. I wanted Isaac to help convince Scott to join us."

Emma nodded. She stepped closer to him. "Right now, the problem is Isaac. We need to get to him."

"I know." Derek gently placed his hands on her arms. "I'll get Scott. You get Stiles."

"Stiles?"

"Isaac is being taken to the station. Stiles can get us in." Derek glanced back at the parking lot, seeing Isaac being loaded into a patrol car. "We don't have much time. I'll meet you at the station."

Argent Residence...

Chris kissed Renee deeply as he rolled on top of her. They were in the bed under the sheets, rolling around, wrapped in each other's naked embrace. Chris rocked his hips in steady, fluid motions. Renee held onto him as Chris came, burying his face in her neck. She slowly unwrapped her arms and Chris moved to lay beside her. Renee smiled and closed her eyes. "I missed you, too."

Chris chuckled. He slowed his breathing. His stoic expression returning. "Gerard wants a war."

Renee opened her eyes and stared up at the ceiling. "Kate was killed by an Alpha. Of course he wants a war."

Chris exhaled loudly and sat up. Renee watched him gather his clothes. "Why is it that when I visit you...you can't get enough, but you never come to visit me?"

"You know why." He sat back down on the edge of the bed, putting his clothes back on. "I'm not one of those unhappy husbands that sneaks off to his mistress every chance he gets."

"So you're unhappy?" she asked innocently.

He turned to look at her. "I love Victoria. You know that. She's Allison's mother."

"I know." Renee's hand absently went to her lower abdomen, feeling her faint cesarean scar. "Does Victoria even know about this? I can't imagine she's okay with it."

"You'd be surprised." He stood up to finish putting his jeans on. "Get dressed. I'm sure Gerard needs you for something."

Renee snorted as she got out of the bed. She touched the choker she wore. "I could only wear this and Gerard wouldn't care."

Chris rolled his eyes as she got dressed. He paused, hearing the sound of a car pulling up. Chris went to the window, seeing Allison's car pull into the garage. "Damn it," he said. "Allison is home early. I have to go."

He kissed her quickly and left the room. Renee sighed as she watched him leave, closing the door behind him. She rubbed her scar again, tears threatening to well up. Renee glanced out the window, movement catching her eye. She saw a teenage boy hiding on the roof of the garage. He was glancing down at the front door. Renee squinted her eyes. "Who is that?"

Sheriff Station...

Stiles parked his Jeep. Derek sat in the passenger's side while Emma sat in the back. Stiles turned his engine off and sighed. "Okay, now the keys to every cell are in a password protected lockbox in my father's office. The problem is getting past the front desk."

Stiles pointed to the female deputy they could see through the window. Derek shrugged. "I'll distract her."

Stiles snorted. "No, really...what's your plan?"

Derek exchanged glances with Emma. "To distract her."

"How?" Stiles asked. "By punching her in the face?"

Emma leaned forward. "Stiles. I don't know if you noticed, but Derek is attractive."

"Nope. Never noticed."

"And he's a wolf," she continued, "Both are irresistible to humans."

Stiles leaned back, frowning at her. "And what? You're okay with him going in there...putting the moves on her?"

"Putting the moves?" She raised an eyebrow. "He's going to talk to her, Stiles, not fuck her."

Derek rolled his eyes and got out. Stiles and Emma followed suit. Derek went inside first and went to the far end of the desk. The deputy followed suit, smiling and flirting. She was completely oblivious to Stiles and Emma walking past. Stiles led Emma down the hallway to an intersection. Stiles stopped and pointed down the left side. "That's to the holding cell."

"Where are you going?" she asked.

"Gonna grab the keys."

Emma nodded and they parted ways. Emma followed the hallway. Even inside the station, she could feel the familiar pull of the moon. As she came upon another intersection, the stink of anger filled her nose. She followed it and came to the holding cell. Isaac was still standing in his cell, but the door was thrown wide open. He raised his gaze to Emma, his eyes blazing yellow and his face in a full shift. Isaac raised his hands, showing his claws. Emma's eyes glowed blue and she bared her fangs. "Isaac."

Isaac ignored her. He roared and lunged. Emma dodged his swipe and she kicked his side. He fell against the wall. Isaac quickly recovered and attacked again, swiping without strategy or purpose. His reach was wide and strong. Emma ducked the first few, but Isaac managed to slash at her hip. She grunted and fell onto one knee. Isaac grabbed her by the shoulders, digging his claws in and threw her against the wall. He ran forward, pinning her there. Emma growled at him, fighting his fresh strength. "Isaac," she said. "Stop!"

Their attention turned to the door as a deputy carrying a large syringe dragged Stiles in. He dropped Stiles and turned to Isaac's cell. Isaac released Emma and tackled the deputy. The man hit the wall, crying out. Isaac grabbed the man's head and slammed it against the wall. Derek appeared in the room and stomped on the syringe, destroying it. Isaac glanced at Derek then at Stiles. He growled and began marching towards the frightened teen. Derek stepped into his path and roared. Isaac cowered back against the wall, curling his arms over his head. Emma ran to Isaac, checking him. Stiles sighed in relief. "How did you do that?"

Derek glanced back at him and smirked. "I'm the Alpha."
