Chapter 07 : Tomorrow

Shego stood up from her desk. The swelling in her ankle had decreased significantly. She pulled on her work sweater. The day was finally over and she was preparing to go home.

Her door opened and Betty entered.

"Where are you going?" She said.

"Don't fuck with me, B. Not in the mood." Shego replied. She bent over and picked up the files from her desk top.

"Ah, someone's cranky," Doctor Director said.

"I wonder why?" Shego asked with a glare in her direction.

"What doesn't kill you?" She asked with a shrug.

"Did you want something?" Shego asked straightening.

"Nothing in particular," Betty said. "Have a good evening."

"Good luck with Vivian's family," Shego said. "Don't forget to call me and give me all the dirty details."

"Will do," Doctor Director answered. "If her parents are anything like her I'm sure there will be plenty to tell."

"That's what I like to hear," Shego said. She walked toward the door and Doctor Director opened it wider. She followed Shego out.

"If anything goes wrong next week,"

"Doubting us already, eh?"

"If anything goes wrong call me immediately." Doctor Director said. "I'd rather keep any problems that pop up in house."

"Gotcha," Shego said. "Drop anyone on their ass who doesn't conform."

Doctor Director laughed and bid her farewell when they got to the stairwell.

It didn't take as long as Shego expected to get home.

She opened the door and her stomach growled as the strong aroma of food hit her nose. She closed the door softly and walked up stairs. The lights were off when she reached her bedroom, but that didn't matter. She walked into the bathroom and closed the door. She didn't bother turning on the bathroom light as she walked over to the shower. Cloth tangled around her legs and she groaned. She lit up her hand and looked down, Kim's abandoned clothing greeted her.

She rolled her eyes, pushing them over to the side with her foot. Shego undressed, placing her dirty clothing and Kim's in the hamper near the door. She took a shower. It wasn't long before she got out. Forgoing a towel she left the bathroom, raising her body temperature, the water on her skin began to evaporate.

She lit up her hand again and held back a gasp. Kim laid back on the bed. She had fallen asleep in the middle of putting on her clothes. Shego shook her head. Her love could be so pathetic sometimes.

Shego approached her and shook her knee.

"Pumpkin," Shego said. "Wake up, sleepyhead."

"I don't want to," Kim muttered. "I'm getting too old for this saving the world business."

Kim's behavior brought a grin to Shego's face, yes, she was adorably pathetic.

"Uh huh," Shego said. "You're like ancient."

"Shut up," Kim said, opening her eyes. "You're making fun of me."

"Sure am," Shego replied. She reached for Kim's hands and the redhead lifted them up for her to grasp onto. She pulled Kim into the sitting position. "Bet you won't go up against any windows again any time soon huh?"

"Yeah, I'm not joking. I felt that one." Kim said. She allowed Shego to help her into her clothes.

"My poor Kimmie," Shego said. Kim leaned forward and draped her arms around the kneeling woman's shoulders.

Shego lifted her face and received Kim's kiss.

"I'll never get tired of this," Kim said, breaking the contact.

"Are you dying in here, Kim?" Bonnie asked. She entered their room and turned on the bedroom light.

Shego's eyebrow quirked in irritation and Kim giggled.

"I'm so sorry!" Bonnie said, turning off the light. "I didn't know you were home."

"It's fine," Shego said. Helping Kim up and giving her a gentle push toward the brunette. "She was just coming down stairs anyway."

"Kim," Bonnie said when she reached the door. "Your girl is bangin'"

Kim hooked her arm through Bonnie's and pulled her away from the doorway.

Shego was glad the lights where off. She could feel her cheeks burning as she blushed. She went through her drawer and pulled out something simple to wear. She heard both of the children begin to cry and hurried downstairs to help.

"What's wrong with them?" Shego said.

"They're babies," Monique said. "Babies cry."

"Thank you Doctor Phil," Shego answered, holding her hands out for Kanna. Monique handed her over while Kim got Hunter.

"Tell me what's wrong," Shego said, comforting the little girl. "I'll try and fix it."

Kanna turned her head and reached out for Kim. The redhead was busy changing Hunter's diaper.

"Mommy's busy, you're going to have to wait a minute." Shego told her. Kanna quieted.

Once Kim was finished they switched infants.

"She's probably just hungry," Kim said.

"Yeah it's been a while since they ate." Bonnie said. She left them and walked to the kitchen door. "Dinner's ready."

Hunter sniffled as he clung to Shego.

"I feel like we're always eating," Kim said. "We spend a lot of time in here."

Shego rolled her eyes.

"Would you prefer to eat in the den?" Shego asked. "Change of scenery?"

"Maybe some other time," Kim said. "It's hard to get comfortable enough to nurse in there."

"That doesn't bother you?" Monique asked. "Just whipping them all out and proud."

Kim laughed.

"First off, it's not even like that." she said. "People barely notice and I don't do it outside of the house very often."

"I don't ever do it outside the house," Shego said. "If some one ever had the nerve to look at me weird or say something stupid. I'd go to prison for punching them into the next century."

"And we can't have that," Yori said.

"Who made this?" Shego asked, looking at the dish of lasagna.

"Me," Bonnie said. "It's safe."

Monique swatted her arm and Bonnie grinned at her.

Shego actually allowed Bonnie to serve her and Kim. She was a little grateful she didn't have to ask. Kim glanced at her from her seat across the table but didn't say anything.

"You can feed yourself right?" Monique teased her.

Kim glared, "Yes, thank you."

Shego flipped through the book she'd been reading the last hour. Kim was at work and the kids were on the floor playing with their toys. Her cell phone rang. The two on the floor turned and looked around for the disturbance.

"I know, right?" Shego asked. "So rude."

Kanna and Hunter went back to what the were doing.

"No, you can't stay late," Shego said, answering the phone.

"Didn't plan on it honestly." Kim said. "How are things?"

"Everyone is alive," Shego assured her. "Things must be slow if I'm getting a check up call."

"A little bit," Kim said. "I got called on a mission earlier and now I'm just a sitting duck."

"Leave," Shego said. "We're much more fun to be around anyway."

"Don't tempt me." Kim said.

"What's really wrong?" Shego asked. "You miss our spawn?"

"Don't make fun of me," Kim said. "It's a totally natural response to being separated from them."

"I wasn't making fun, Pumpkin," Shego said.

"Sorry," Kim muttered. "I should go."

"I love you," Shego said.

"Love you too," Kim said.

Shego dropped her phone on the couch when she disconnected the call.

"Where do you think you're going?" Shego asked Kanna. The little girl thought she could sneak away while Shego was preoccupied with the phone.

"You've got plenty to do in here," Shego said.

Kanna turned and walked back over toward the couch. She stood before Shego and lifted her arms. Shego reached down and picked her up. Hunter crawled over to where Kanna previously stood and insisted on the same treatment.

"You two are so needy," Shego joked lifting Hunter onto the couch next to her. She curled up putting each child on either side of her. "How about a story?"

Kim entered the house a few hours later and found Shego and Hunter passed out on the couch. Kanna looked at Kim from her place on the couch next to Shego.

"Hi Luci," Kim said quietly. She put her index finger over lips and walked over to her. She picked her up and carried her with her upstairs.

She set Kanna down on her bed and shuffled through her clothes.

"Let's go outside," Kim said. "It's a nice day out and you shouldn't miss it."

Kanna didn't like the sound of the word "outside" nor was she particularly fond of people telling her what she "shouldn't" do.

"Don't give me that look young lady," Kim said.

The two of them managed to sneak passed Shego and out of the house. It was warm but there was enough cloud coverage for Kanna to not turn a miserable little human-being.

Shego opened her eyes when she heard the sliding glass doors behind her close.

Kim was home. She supposed it was time to start dinner.

"It's not going to be that bad," Vivian Porter told Elizabeth Director. "They're really nice and they are going to love you."

"Your parents don't even know I exist," Betty said. "and you've already hinted about them not being fond of our kind."

"So tactful," Vivian said. "You can't be my roommate the rest of our lives."

"You told them I was your roommate?" Betty asked the blonde woman incredulously. "That's like the oldest homo excuse in the history of…"

"No, I didn't tell them you were my roommate," Vivian said. "It was a joke. My parents do know you exist."

"Really?"

"Yes," She assured her. "Just not in which context."

"Subtext is not the pretext, love," Betty said. "I have a bad feeling about this."

Vivian sighed stopping what she was going. She set down the object she was packing away in her bag to turn and look at Betty.

"It's going to be fine," Vivian said. "If you get uncomfortable we can always leave."

Betty sighed, "fine, but don't say I didn't warn you."

Vivian smiled and finished packing away her things. She zipped up her duffel bag and lifted it off the bed.

Vivian walked out of the bedroom past her and Betty followed. Her own bag already packed into the trunk of their car. She locked up their house and walked to the passenger side of the car. Vivian made eye contact with her over the roof of the car. She smiled at her.

"It'll be fine," She said.

Betty nodded. She was already in it. There was no backing out now.

Bonnie paced around her living room. She needed to do this.

"Tomorrow," Bonnie said. "tomorrow."

"What are you muttering about," Monique said coming into the room.

"Nothing," Bonnie said. "I was just thinking aloud."

"Uh huh," Monique said. "You've been acting like this for months."

"I have not been acting like anything for months," Bonnie defended. "You've been imaging me acting like this for months."

"Not a chance." Monique said approaching her. She pulled Bonnie into a hug, looping her arms around her waist. Her wrists brushed up against something hard in Bonnie's back pocket.

"What is that?" Monique asked.

"Nothing," Bonnie told her quickly. She'd known it was a stupid place to stick the ring box.

"B," Monique said.

"Drop it, Moni," Bonnie said seriously. "Please, I really need you to just let it go."

"I will if you will," Monique said. "It's not that I don't want to marry you, it's just this whole thing is driving you a little bonkers and I'd rather I wasn't the cause of it."

"You don't understand," Bonnie said looking ashamed. "This should be easy. I should be so happy and enthusiastic, but all I feel is nervous and wound up."

Monique smiled softly and pulled Bonnie into a kiss.

Bonnie groaned. She'd give it to Monique, the girl really knew how to shut her up. Bonnie brought her hands up to Monique's shoulders and rested them there. She pushed gently forcing the dark skinned woman to break their kiss.

"Marry me," Bonnie said. "I need you, Moni."

"Absolutely," Monique said, bringing her back into the kiss. Bonnie's arms slipped around Monique's neck and locked her in place. Monique giggled when they both began struggling for air. "Do I finally get to see that ring you've been failing to hide for the last year?"

"Well I guess," Bonnie said rolling her eyes. "it is your ring."

Monique grinned pulling away from her completely. Bonnie reached into her back pocket and pulled out the worn ring box. She opened it and showed Monique the ring inside. Monique didn't say anything as she watch Bonnie pull the ring from the box. It was simple and perfect.

Bonnie grabbed Monique's left hand and slipped the ring onto her ring finger. The dark skinned woman sniffled. She'd known this had been coming for a while now and she wasn't sure if she was happier that the whole worrying mess was over or that there was an actual ring on her finger.

"Thank you," Bonnie whispered.

"I love you," Monique replied.
