A/N: Hey, everybody. If you hadn't already seen the A/N from my other project, I have returned to fanfiction. I am going to be working in tandem with this project and the other one I just started a few days ago so expect updates from both. Reviews and follows are appreciated
I do not own South Park nor Terminator.
As Cartman finished his moment with Stan, he turned to the others, while avoiding looking at a certain Jew boy.
"Hey, Cartman."
"What?"
"Wanna come along with us?"
Kyle let his mouth hang open a little bit but closed it right back up. He approached Stan, slightly nudged him on the shoulder. Stan turned to Kyle, who had a look on his face saying 'are you sure?' He simply nodded in response.
"Sure." He says nothing else.
"Alright then. Tucker, grab this guy some gear. We're heading out. Cartman, I'll brief you along the way."
Everybody was making their way back to the chopper, when suddenly, they heard a whirring noise.
"HK!" Clyde yelled while looking through the sky.
"Everybody hit the deck!" On Stan's command, they all went prone. The desert environment made it a bit easier to blend in, but it would be ineffective as HKs use infrared. They stayed prone until the whirring noise was past them.
"All clear." Everybody stood back up. Stan noticed that Cartman was looking a bit shocked.
"You'll be okay. That'll be happening a bit more often now that you're with us."
Cartman simply nodded in acknowledgement.
"Alright let's go. We can reach LV before night and hopefully find shelter."
A few minutes later, they were back in the air. Cartman had many questions to ask and now would be a good time to get some answered.
"What happened?" he asked.
"Judgment Day happened. The end of days for humanity."
"How?" he asked again.
"Let's just say a whole lot of nukes got scattered. I know it sounds weird. Kyle can tell you more about it; when he feels like treating you like a human." Kyle heard Stan's comment but chose to ignore it for now. Kyle could feel Cartman's eyes boring into the back of his head. The tension between the two of them was felt by everyone with them. Mainly to break the tension, Cartman asked another question.
"Where are we going?"
"To find our friend."
"You probably won't find him. He's probably one of 'them' by now."
"We didn't come all this way to just turn around."
"I know. I'm just saying that it's not at all going to be easy."
"Oh, trust me, I know. We've had our fair share of Terminators."
"Yes, but the closer you get to Skynet's control zone. The more advanced and primitive the Terminators get. What have you guys been getting?"
"Only T-20s, T-70s and HKs."
Cartman was shaking his head. "Good thing, you guys are alive, because it's only going to get harder from here. For all you guys know, I could be one of them."
"Their technology is that advanced? To recreate the outer appearance of the human body?"
"It is. And if I were one of them, I probably would've killed you all or taken you guys prisoner by now."
"True that. By the way, where exactly are we going?"
"San Fran."
"Funny, because that is smack dab in the middle of Skynet's western control zone."
"How big is it?"
"Pretty much everything between San Diego and L.A is controlled by Skynet."
"Well then, we're going to go pay 'em a visit."
"As much as I think you guys are insane and don't want to help you guys, I do. For Kenny."
"For Kenny," Stan said.
"For Kenny," Craig said.
"For Kenny," Clyde said.
"For Kenny," Wendy said.
"For Kenny," Kyle said with shakiness present in his voice.
There was another awkward silence before another question is asked.
"Where did you go?" Stan was hoping Cartman would've avoided it.
"To war. Afghanistan. If you want to know more about it, sorry; now's not the time to talk about that. I'd rather worry about what is going to happen than what has happened," he answered, with the slightest shakiness In his voice. Cartman's mouth was hanging slightly agape as he was rather shocked to hear about a person like him, a pacifist, going to war. Stan never told anyone, but he sees this mission as a second chance for him. He has killed many and left his friends behind. At this point, he would even give his own life to protect those he cared about.
There was another awkward silence, and it would remain that way for a good amount of time. The whole time, the tension between Kyle and Cartman did not cease nor ebb. Everybody knew why the tension was there, but it just seems to be old wounds that haven't healed.
