(May's POV)
"Please mom? I just didn't want to be here alone."
I was trying to convince my mom to let me head out to Kanto. I didn't want to be alone on my journey here. That, and, I just really miss John.
"Well... fine," my mom said.
"Oh thank you thank you thank you!" I said happily.
"But, you still have to go ask your father."
I gave out a small sigh.
(Darn it!)
"Can you at least call him right now and tell him you said I could at least?" I said, the excitement in me slowly dying down.
"Sure, now hurry on to his lab, you know how your father likes to spend his time outside."
"Alright, I'll be back in a bit."
I ran out the front door, almost falling down the steps, but I regained my balance. I looked around to see if anyone saw, but luckily, a man had already walked past my house and didn't see a thing. I started to run towards the lab, hoping my dad wouldn't be out examining Pokemon.
When I arrived, one of my father's assistants said,"Oh hello May. Anything wrong?"
"No, I'm just looking for my father. Is he here?" I said, panting after the run.
"You came right on time, he was just about to head out into the forest. You can go ahead and go see him."
"Thank you,"
I started walking around the lab, looking for my dad. I walked up to his office door and opened it.
"Alright, I'll tell her as soon as she gets here. Hey, what are you making for dinner tonight? Fine, love you then bye,"
"Hey dad," I said as I started walking over to one of his chairs.
"Oh, hey May. Your mother already called telling me about what you want to do."
"Is it okay if I can go?" I said, crossing my fingers.
"Of course! This is a big opportunity for both of us!" he said, excitably.
(Oh no, he's gonna start talking about his research) i thought to myself.
"This can help me further my research. And hey, maybe you can get John to help you to. Speaking of which, your mother told me to tell you he called as soon as you left the house."
My eyes shot opened when he said that. I quickly got up, ran to my dad to give him a hug.
"Thanks dad," I said running out of his office.
"But be careful!" I heard him shout.
I started to run back home, hoping John would call back.
(John's POV)
I hanged the phone up. I said I'd call back in about half an hour, since someone was also waiting behind me.
"It's all yours," I said to the man.
"Why thank you," he replied.
I was in the Viridian city Pokemon center. I decided to make a quick phone call to May's house, while waiting for squirtle and Ruby to come out. I looked around the place and saw a map of the region. I went towards it to see where to go next. I had to go through Viridian forest to get to Pewter city.
(That may actually take a bit. We'll probably have to make camp.)
Luckily for me, my mom reminded me to take one of the tents and a sleeping bag.
(What would happen to me without her)
"Excuse me," I heard Nurse Joy said.
I turned around and saw she had a pokeball on a tray and Ruby sitting on her shoulder.
"Your Pokemon are now fully healed."
"Thank you Nurse Joy." I said.
"Anytime, feel free to come back anytime."
I grabbed squirtle's pokeball. Ruby jumped onto the counter top and smiled at me. I picked her up and placed her back on my shoulder.
"Do you happen to know where I can get a map?" I asked Joy.
"Actually, I have a few copies left here." She ducked down and started fumbling threw drawers. She came back up and handed me a map.
"Here you go. Don't want trainers getting lost out there."
"Thank you again nurse Joy." I said
"Don't mention it."
I started walking out the door, heading to a mart I saw when we got here.
"Feel better Ruby?" I asked.
"I feel a whole lot better. I feel like I can take on anybody right now!" she said.
"Well, I feel a whole lot safer," I said.
"That's my job, keeping you out of danger,"
"Don't forget about squirtle here," I said, tapping my pokeball.
"Fine I'll give him some glory."
When we arrived at the mart, I bought some potions and food for us. Outside, I took the stuff out of the bag and placed it into my backpack.
"Alright we're ready to head out, but first let me try calling May back again," I said, hoping she would be there this time.
When we arrived back at the Pokemon center, I quickly went over to the phone and dialed May's house. It literally only rang once when I heard May on the other side.
"Hello?" May said.
"Hey May. I'm calling you just like I had promised. I called earlier, but you weren't home."
"Yeah sorry about that, I went down to my dad's lab real quick to ask him something."
"Well, hey, I get to talk you today. That's really all that matters."
I blushed a bit after I said that.
"I got some great news I gotta tell you John!" May said excitedly.
I waited for to say it, but she didn't say anything.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Well...you know how we were supposed to be journeying together here?"
"Yeah?"
"I asked my parents if I could possibly go over where you are."
When she said that, my heart dropped. I couldn't believe that we could actually be with each other.
"What'd your parents say?" I asked.
"They said yes!"
(Yes yes yes! I get to be with May)
"When will you be coming out here?"
"I'm leaving first thing in the morning."
"I can't wait to see you here."
Ruby then tapped my head and pointed at a clock. It was 5:30!
"Hurry up, we need to get a move on." Ruby said.
"Hey May, I got to go. I'll see if I'm able to call you in the morning."
"Alright then John. I love you."
"I love you too. Bye."
I hanged up the found and started heading out the door. I looked up at where the sun was, and I could see it was starting to set.
"Maybe if we hurry we could possibly make it half way." I said confidently.
"Well, standing here isn't going to get us threw that forest any faster," Ruby said.
I started walking towards the entrance of Viridian forest. When we got there, it was pretty dark in there. I could feel Ruby hold on tighter onto my shoulder. I pet her head to comfort her.
"Don't worry, we'll be fine. As long as I'm here, nothing will happen to you." I said.
"I know you will, it's just the memories of my time being alone."
I started walking into forest, hearing the sounds of Pokemon heading to sleep. We got deeper and deeper into the forest. Then, in front me, I saw a green worm like Pokemon on the floor, not moving at all. I quickly ran up to it, seeing if it was fine. When I got up to it, it looked up at me, and started cooing at me.
"What's wrong with him." I asked Ruby.
Ruby jumped of my shoulder and approached the Pokemon. They started talking to each other in their Pokemon language. I found it strange hearing Ruby talk in her Pokemon language.
"He says he got into a fight with another Pokemon." Ruby told me.
"Is he badly injured?" I asked her.
"He says that his head hurts a lot."
I quickly got out a potion from my backpack and showed it to him.
"I'm gonna spray this on you so feel much better okay?"
The little Pokemon shook his head. I proceeded to spray him where he said it hurt. After I was done, he got up and jumped on me, nuzzling his head on my chest.
"Your welcome." I told the cheerful Pokemon.
"I wonder what type of Pokemon you are?"
I took out my pokedex and pointed it at the Pokemon.
"Caterpie, the worm pokemon. Caterpie uses the suction cups on its feet to climb trees and feed on its favorite leaves."
"John, something's coming towards us. And there's more than one." Ruby said.
I started hearing rustling in the bushes. I put my pokedex back in my pocket and also grabbed squirtle's pokeball and sent him out.
"Squirtle squirtle."
"Alright you two, stay on guard, and protect each other," I told my Pokemon.
"Squirtle." he said nodding his head in agreement
"You can count on us John." Ruby said.
Then Caterpie stood with the others ready to fight.
"Are you sure your able to fight?" I asked him, still concerned about the injuries he had.
"Piie," the little worm said, nodding his head.
"Alright then, get ready." I told caterpie.
The rustling in the bushes stopped. Then, out of nowhere, a purple rat like Pokemon tackled squirtle.
"Squirtle!" I said, worried he'd be hurt.
But he got up, wiped his mouth and took his fighting stance.
"Way to go squirtle!" I said.
Then three more of those Pokemon came out, all ready to attack.
"Quick, squirtle use tackle, and Ruby use confusion!"
Squirtle quickly tackled the Pokemon that got him by surprise. The Pokemon hit the ground hard, but it got right back up. Ruby then used confusion to finish it off. The Pokemon started the sway side to side. It accidently hit itself in confusion and knocked himself out.
"All right! Good job you guys!"
The other three Pokemon didn't seem fond of what Ruby did. They started rushing towards her.
"Quick Ruby! Dodge them!"
She managed to dodge the first Pokemon, but the other two were definitely going to get her.
"Watch out Ruby!" I shouted.
Then, I saw string start to cover the two Pokemon rushing towards Ruby. I look to see caterpie using string shot on the Pokemon. The two Pokemon were completely covered in his string and stopped right in their tracks.
"Good job caterpie!" I told him.
The Pokemon that missed Ruby started rushing at caterpie.
"Caterpie behind you!"
It was too late. He got hit. He flew back and hit a tree. I quickly ran towards him to see if he was fine.
"Squirtle, Ruby, finish him off!" I shouted.
When I reached caterpie, he was out. I picked him up and held him. I turned back to see Ruby using confusion and then squirtle quickly tackled him. The Pokemon flew back, hitting the two Pokemon stuck in the string.
"Squirtle, use water gun!"
Squritle then launched a powerful burst of water towards the Pokemon, launching them deep into the forest.
"Yeah! Good job you two!" I said, praising my Pokemon.
"Squirtle!" he said happily.
I looked at Ruby, but she didn't seem happy.
"Are you ok?" I asked, worried that she had gotten hurt.
I knelt down in front of her.
"If I were quicker, caterpie wouldn't have gotten hurt." Ruby said sadly.
I pet her head trying to comfort.
"Hey, it's not your fault. You couldn't have predicted that Pokemon would do that." I said.
She then grabbed my hand, looked up at me, and smiled.
"Thank you John." She said.
"Don't mention it."
I stood up and grabbed squirtle's pokeball.
"You did a great job today squirtle, you deserve a nice rest."
"Squirtle squirtle." He said, flashing me a thumbs up before disappearing into his pokeball.
I still had caterpie in my arms, but he didn't seem he will wake up any time soon.
"Let me see if I can heal him," Ruby said.
I shook my head in agreement and placed caterpie down in front of Ruby. She looked down at him and closed her eyes. Her hands started glowing blue. She put her hands on caterpie. The blue light then surrounded caterpie.
"He has some big bumps and bruises, but he'll be fine." Ruby said, as she finished.
"So, why isn't he waking up?" I asked.
"He's tired. He's been through a lot today." She replied.
I looked around the forest and saw a small clearing to my left.
"Hey, lets go and make camp and get you guys fed." I told Ruby.
"Sounds like a plan." Ruby said as her stomach growled. She blushed a bit.
"Alright, come on."
I picked caterpie and Ruby up and walked over to the small clearing. When we got there, I couldn't help but notice how beautiful the night sky was.
"Well, this spot looks perfect." I said.
I slowly placed caterpie down, while Ruby jumped off my shoulder. I grabbed squirtle's pokeball and let him out again.
"Hey squirtle, I'm just gonna give you guys some food, then you can go back to sleep." I told him.
Squirtle just rubbed his eyes and nodded his head. I grabbed their food from my backpack and placed it in a bowl. Ruby and squirtle sat in front of the bowl and started eating.
"All right, now to set up this tent."
"Have fun with that." Ruby said.
It didn't take me long. Luckily, my dad and I went camping a lot back home, so I've seen him enough times to put this thing together. I also grabbed some sticks that were around to make a small campfire.
When all was done, I sat down with my Pokemon in front of the fire. Squirtle was passed out on my lap while Ruby cuddled up onto my arm. I looked at caterpie, who was right next to me, to see him start to wake up.
"Hey caterpie, you feeling a lot better?"
"Errr," he said happily.
"You see that bowl over there?" I told him,"There's some food in it if your..." I didn't even finish my sentence when caterpie was already over at bowl, eating.
"Huh, you must've been starving."
When caterpie was all done with his food, he looked at my Pokemon, then at me. I think I knew what he was he thinking.
"You know, I could use a bigger team. We're always accepting new comers." I told caterpie, showing him a pokeball.
He didn't even hesitate in saying yes. He's jumping up and down in joy.
"Alright, alright." I said laughing.
I let the pokeball fall on his head. He then disappeared into it. The ball shook once...twice...three times... and stopped. I picked up the pokeball and looked at it.
"Welcome to the team," I said.
I let him out, and he quickly jumped onto my chest and climbed up onto my shoulder, before falling asleep there.
I started thinking about May and how we are going to see each other soon.
(I hope this doesn't change my journey.) I thought.
I was starting to feel pretty tired, so I woke up squirtle.
"Hey squirtle, mind putting out the fire?" I asked him.
"Squirtle," he said, sounding a bit tired.
I picked Ruby up and held her in my arms. Caterpie was still asleep on shoulders. Squirtle launched a small water gun attack at the flames and instantly turned it off.
"C'mon squirtle." I said, walking towards the tent.
As I got into the tent, I carefully place Ruby and caterpie on the floor. Squirtle laid down next to them.
"Goodnight you guys." I said.
I got into my sleeping, found a comfortable spot, and instantly fell asleep.
