Sorry for the delay everyone! I'm so sorry for ending the last chapter like that, but trust me. You're going to hate me for a few other endings in this fic.
Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha or Haven't Had Enough by Marianas Trench.
"...TESTING, TESTING, I'M JUST..."
Sesshomaru chuckled as he heard Kagome sing (more like screech) along to the radio. She was actually a good singer, but they way she was screeching the song made him laugh.
"...MIGHT NOT BE THE BEST THING!"
"I love your voice," Sesshomaru joked as he heard her giggle. It was true; her voice really was beautiful.
Kagome winked at him, "Oh, thank you Sesshy-kun!"
"..."
"What?"
"Sesshy-kun?"
Kagome shrugged. "It's cute, so it's staying."
Sesshomaru chuckled as he pulled up at the house. "We're here." He got out of the car quickly, smiling as he saw Kagome climb out of her side of the car. He locked the car before turning to the front door, unlocking it and holding it open for Kagome.
Kagome flashed him a smile. Sesshomaru felt his heartbeat quicken as he smiled at her. For some reason, he, the Ice Prince, was letting his guards fall around this girl. He couldn't explain it. She had a way of making everything better.
"Sesshy-kun?"
He looked down at her, his eyes locking on to her big brown ones. "Huh?"
She sent him a toothy grin, "Let's order takeout."
He just nodded.
"Food's here!"
Sesshomaru glanced up from his spot on the couch as he saw Kagome taking the packaged food from the delivery man. He quickly joined his friend in the kitchen, pulling plates and forks out for her.
"I'll wash up tonight," She said as she prepared the food, emptying the contents onto the plate. "It'll be a thank you for letting me stay here ever since Kouga..."
Sesshomaru's eyes narrowed at that name. "Don't mention him again. He will never hurt you again."
Kagome's eyes widened. "Oh no!"
"What's wrong?" Sesshomaru asked, feeling protective of Kagome. How could anyone hurt Kagome the way Kouga did? She was so sweet, so gentle, so kind...
"I'll have to go to college tomorrow and see him there!"
Sesshomaru's eyes locked on the calender for a moment. She was right, it was Sunday. She'd have to go to college tomorrow and see Kouga. They had six hours together, and then Kagome would still have to wait for the train, meaning Kouga could get her when she was alone...
"I'll drop you off and pick you up." Sesshomaru said, his voice filled with compassion. "He won't hurt you, I promise." Almost against his will, he wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her into a hug.
"Thank you Sesshomaru..." She closed her eyes, leaning her head on his shoulder. She suddenly realised what she was doing and pulled away from him. "Um...let's put a movie on."
Sesshomaru could only smirk at the blush on her face.
"Good night."
Kagome smiled. "Good night Sesshy-kun."
Sesshomaru smiled at her as he left her bedroom, heading to his own room. Kagome laid down on the bed, thinking about the situation she found herself in. It had only been two days since Sesshomaru helped her from Kouga. She'd always liked Sesshomaru, but it was just as a friend, but maybe, she could feel something else for him.
"What about Inuyasha?" she muttered to herself, pulling the blanket closer to her. "I thought I loved him, not Sesshomaru." She sighed as she looked at the wall.
She did love Inuyasha, but she couldn't do anything now. He was dead, never coming back. It had taken her months to accept that fact. She turned on to her side, facing the wall as she began to drift into a slumber.
...
"Sit down, Kagome."
Kagome blinked as she sat down on Sango's leather couch. Sango had called her over urgently, telling her that they had bad news. Miroku was there too, although he wasn't talking to either girl. He just looked off into the distance, pain in his eyes.
"What's going on?" Kagome asked as Sango sat down next to her. "Why isn't Miroku talking to us? Why did you ask me to come here?"
Sango sighed and put a hand on Kagome's shoulder, "Kagome, something terrible has happened to Inuyasha."
Kagome's eyes widened as she sat up, silently begging Sango to continue. What happened to her Inuyasha?
"He went over Kikyou's and on the way home...he got hit by a car. Kagome, he's dead."
Kagome felt her world come crashing down as she finally realised what was happening. Miroku was upset that Inuyasha was gone, that's why he wasn't talking. Kagome felt tears spring to her eyes.
"No...not Inuyasha!"
How could her Inuyasha have died? He needed to be alive; without him, she had no one. He was her rock, her shoulder to cry on. He was always there for her when she needed him and was always kind to her. He had supported her through her parents divorce, he had been there for her when her heart got broken. He was her Inuyasha, damn it!
"NO!"
...
Kagome rolled over in her sleep, gripping her blanket closer, begging herself to wake up, to escape this nightmare she had found herself trapped in.
...
"Kagome...I thought you loved me, Kagome."
Kagome looked around in fright as Inuyasha's familiar voice echoed in her ears. What was he doing here? He was dead, wasn't he?
"Were you only friends with me, to get to my brother?"
Kagome's eyes widened. How could Inuyasha even dare to think like that? "What? Of course not!"
"Were you planning to cheat on Kouga with Sesshomaru?"
"No!"
Inuyasha suddenly appeared in front of her, a sadistic smirk on his face. "You should have known that I would never love you, Kagome! Not when I had Kikyou!"
Kagome covered her ears with her hands, tears beginning to fall from her face. "Inuyasha would never say such awful things!"
"You really don't know me then." He cackled, lifting her chin up. "You will always be second place!"
"No!"
"I never loved you, Kagome!"
"Why are you doing this?!"
"I HATE YOU!"
...
"No!" Kagome screamed, tears falling down her face. She clutched the blanket tighter to her, trying to calm down her sobs, but to no avail. She heard the door open slightly and gazed up towards the door. Sesshomaru stood there, worry etched onto his face.
"Kagome?" He gently stepped towards her, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. She gazed up at him, tears still falling. He gently wiped her tears away, sitting down next to her on the bed. "Kagome, what happened?"
She sniffed gently, bringing a hand up to rub her tears away. Sesshomaru waited patiently for her to talk. Kagome took a deep breath, nodding her head as she readied herself.
"I...I had a nightmare." She whimpered quietly, taking another deep breath. "It was about...Inuyasha..."
Sesshomaru nodded his head in understanding. He moved closer to her, wrapping an arm around her waist comfortingly and pulling her closer to him. He ran a hand through her silky, black hair gently.
"It's alright Kagome. It was just a nightmare."
She nodded, resting her head on his chest gently. His hand ran through her hair soothingly and she sighed in content. She was still upset however with Sesshomaru next to her, she felt so much safer. She grabbed a handful of his dress shirt, burying her face into his chest.
"Have you ever had nightmares?"
The question surprised Sesshomaru. He raked his mind, thinking for a time when he did have a nightmare, and finally nodded. "Yeah, I had a few when I was younger. My father always helped me calm down."
Kagome nodded her head softly, arguing with herself on whether to ask another question. She soon gave up. "How did he calm you down?"
"He would sing a lullaby to me..." Sesshomaru's eyes softened at the memory. He would always remember his father's soft voice singing the lullaby to calm him down, and the way they would both drift off to sleep cuddled in Sesshomaru's bed.
"I see."
A comfortable silence fell on the two. A few minutes later, Kagome took Sesshomaru's hand in hers, looking up at him softly. "Could you...sing it for me?"
His eyes widened. He had only sang for Rin on a few occasions and he wasn't sure if he wanted Kagome to hear his singing. However he felt himself nodding his head. He took a deep breath, beginning the all too familiar lullaby.
"Darkness appears, alerting my senses
Tonight, as I sing you this lullaby
My heart tells me, tear down all your fences
As we glide on the floor, tell me that you want more."
Kagome gazed up at him in wonder as his husky voice echoed through the room. She felt herself lean against him, one of her hands resting on his chest as she listened intently to the soothing lullaby.
Seeing that she was enjoying the song, Sesshomaru continued, slowly getting more confident as he sang. His arm tightened on her waist.
"Tonight, all your dreams will come true
Turn away from the day
Turn to face me, as I please you tonight
And listen, my beauty of the night."
Kagome began to feel sleepy. Moving so she was lying next to him, she smiled up at him. Trough her tired eyes, she could him smiling back a her. He cupped her face in his hands gently as he sang.
"Close your eyes, let me take you by surprise
Forget everything you were told
For beauty goes further than gold.
Close your eyes, let me have this moment.."
Kagome had fallen asleep. Trying not to disturb her, Sesshomaru maneuvered his way out of bed, running a hand through her hair as he finished the song. "And forever..."
She looked so peaceful, almost like an angel. Sesshomaru leaned down to kiss her forehead but decided against it. She loved Inuyasha. She always had. Even with that in mind, he still finished the song, gazing down at her beautiful face.
"...be my beauty of the night."
