Chapter 7

A New Guild?

"Angel Wing?" Lucy questioned the guild's name having never heard of them before. It also made her think of the wings that came out of Gabriel's back only hours ago.

"Not to be rude, but introductions usually start with names not guilds." Jaeger sounding offended by the woman not telling him her name. "I told you my name, now how's about you tell me yours."

"So sorry." Bowing her head as she apologized. "The names Lucy..." Thinking whether or not to use her real name. "Lucy Tenma. And this is my little sister Ceandra Tenma." Deciding to go with the Angel's last name since that was the name Ceandra was used to. "What was your first name?"

"Just stick to Jaeger." He grinned. "That's how we do names in Angel Wing, only one name." At that he took a seat opposite of the two girls. "Which would you rather I call you by." Crossing one leg over the other.

The blonde took her seat back. "I'll stick with Lucy then." Wondering why a guild would only stick to using one name. "And my little sister will go by Ceandra." Carefully moving the sleeping girl so her head was now resting on her lap like she was before the robbers burst into the car.

"So do you belong to a guild." Looking at he exposed parts of skin on Lucy's body for a guild mark.

"I did at one point." Feeling uneasy being eyed by this stranger.

Hearing that he stopped eying her. "Why'd you quit." She didn't answer him right away looking to be in deep thought. "From the way you took that bandit out you must be strong to take that giant out with a punch to a gut."

Thinking about that punch made her think of all the times Erza had knocked Natsu out whenever they used transportation. "Something I learned from a former friend. What about the way you took out all those bandits so quickly?"

Shrugging his shoulders. "Techniques passed down my family line. Why'd you quit?" Jeager asked again more seriously.

Flashback of her first conversation with Gabriel flew through her mind. For the better part of a the decade she thought it to be the worst day of her life only to turn into a savings grace. 'Should I open up to him?' "Our parents died so I had to quit so I could take care of Ceandra." Deciding to lie to the man.

"Nice story. Now you wanna tell me one that's not a complete lie."

"What?"

"I'm not an easy guy to lie to." He said cockily.

"The guild I was a part of mistreated me so I quit." This time Lucy told the truth, but not all of it or even why she told Jaeger at all.

"Think you'd be willing to join another?"

"Why?"

"My guild needs another for the upcoming games." Said the brunette. "My guild is small, and needs another strong member to compete in the games. I can tell you are strong, and not many wizard of your strength aren't already part of a guild." Desperation was present on his face.

"So you're recruiting for your guild, and what makes you think I'm as strong as you think I am? And what is this game you're talking about?"

Jaeger then went on to tell Lucy about the history of the games that started up seven years ago. He also went to tell her that this year required each guild be able to have five members to participate in the games this year, with a possible need for a sixth person. "Like I said before my guild is small and just recently moved from an independent guild into an official one a couple months ago."

'This might lead me to Orga, and the dark energy he's been feeling each year.' Thinking to her mission. "So that's why I've never heard of your guild before." Lucy said. "Still what make you think I'm strong."

"I don't know to be honest. I just do." Jaeger said.

"Really? Mr. I can tell when someone's lying." Calling him out on his own bullshit.

Grinning he tapped his nose. "I can smell a magic on you I've never smelt before, and the way you took out the boss with a body shot. I can tell you're no ordinary wizard."

"You can smell it?"

Nodding his head. "People born in my family have extraordinarily high senses. I could smell you sweating when you lied to me as well as hearing your heart beat racing too." Tapping his right ear.

'He can smell that then...' Looking down at Ceandra. 'Does he know?'

"Do you two have anywhere to go?" This time he asked in a caring voice.

"No we don't." Still unsure why she was telling him anything about her let alone the truth.

Scratching the back of his head. "I'm not trying to pressure you into anything, but why don't you at least check out Angel Wing. Who knows you might like it there."

Lucy could see the desperation on his face. 'What do I have to lose? Worst case scenario his guild gets me to Crocus so I can meet up with Orga.' "Alright I'll check your guild out."

"Thank you." He grinned.

At that the two sat in silence as the train brought them closer to Inora the town where Angel Wing's guildhall was. Luckily it was only a few hours and two stops away. When they arrived there Ceandra was still sound asleep, so Jaeger carried her piggy back style as he lead the way to his guild. The town of Inora was about half the size of Magnolia. On one side of the town was a giant lake name Caur D' Lane. On another side was a giant farming area further than the eye could see growing several different types of vegetation. The other half of the town was surrounded by a giant forest of maple trees. Except for a few building none of the buildings or houses were over a story tall. The guildhall was one of the few. It didn't look pretty with just a generic two-story saloon looking building front look with a fading paint job, and several window on the second floor.

"This is Home." Jaeger grinned looking at the guildhall.

"Home?" Lucy questioned.

Pointing at the second floor. "Second floor serves as housing for members who don't have a house, or apartment." Pointing at the window to the far left. "That one is mine."

"Don't have a place of your own yet?" Doing her best not a offend him with the question, but with what she's seen of him so far he should have raked in enough jewels to buy his own place.

"I like being close to everyone else." Still grinning. "Although I do plan on getting my own before this time next year." At that he opened the door allowing the woman to enter first.

Looking around did Lucy see the inside was similar to Fairy Tail's main hall only this one was only a quarter of the size of her former guild. There was a bar, Enough tables to seat roughly forty people with its five tables. In one corner of the great room was a lounging area with a few couches and chairs focusing around the fireplace. In another corner were two pool tables, three dart boards, and three other recreational games to pass the time with. Taking a second look at the bar did she see a flight of stairs that must have lead to the second floor. Besides herself, Ceandra, and Jaeger there were only two other people inside the guild hall. A boy sitting at the bar, and a girl acting as a barmaid.

"Well there's something I thought I'd never see." Spoke a young annoyed male voice. "Jaeger bringing a girl into the guild with him."

"Shut it brat." Jaeger said barked walking towards the bar with Lucy at foot.

Looking for the voice did Lucy see what looked to be a fourteen year old boy with messy blue hair covering up his ears and his left red eye. He wore a pair of extremely baggy dark blue pants, and a bright yellow long sleeve shirt with his thumbs coming out below the self torn cuffs of the shirt. Currently he was sitting at one of the bar stools.

"Who are your new friends Jaeger?" The girl who looked to be the same age as the boy smiled. Her hair was a near perfect blend of blonde and brown hair, with hazel eyes. She was wearing a white button up shirt with a beige sweater vest over it, She had on a red and black flannel skirt going halfway to her knees, and socks coming up right above the knee cap, and had on a pair of red running shoes.

"This little thing here is Ceandra" Referring to the sleeping girl on his back. "And this here is Lucy." patting her on the shoulder. "Lucy the blue haired brat is Lute, and the sweetheart serving drinks is Albarn"

"Nice to meet you Lute and Albarn." Lucy smiled at the two.

"This sucks." Lute said turning around in his bar stool before drinking his vanilla milkshake. "Brain freeze!" Clutching at his head after a few sips. "This sucks even more." Taking another sip of the frozen drink while still clutching his head.

"Nice to meet ya Lucy." Albarn smiled back. "Want something to drink?"

"Water would be nice." Lucy taking a seat at the bar.

"I'll have a couple bombs." Said Jaeger carefully lying Ceandra down on a couch in the lounge area.

Looking puzzled at the man's order she looked back and forth between the two as Albarn made the drinks up.

"Jaeger Bombs." Albarn said as she filled up three glasses of beer, and three shot glasses with Jägermeister.

"Oh."

"Guys just to lazy to finish the order." Lute complained taking another sip still clutching his head.

"Here's your water Lucy." Albarn serving the drink.

"Thank you." She was about to ask the brunette a question until she saw Jaeger drop the shot into the beer before drinking the whole thing after it had a second for the two drinks to get mixed together.

"Where's everyone at Albarn?" Jaeger asked after downing the first bomb in one go.

"Out on jobs."

"And the master?" Soon tackling the second as fast as the first.

'He's like a male version of Cana.' Lucy thought.

"In his office." The barmaid answered.

"Good." Tapping on Lucy's shoulder. "Let's introduce you to the master." At that he led her upstairs. There was a long hallway of doors each side of the second floor landing. Before them as a large blue door. This is the masters room." Knocking on the door.

"Come in." Said an old voice.

"Let me talk to him first."

"Okay." Lucy said watching Jaeger walk into the office and waited only a few moments before he came back out. "Master says he wants to talk to you alone."

"Is that bad?"

"Nah, that's just the way he likes to interview new members."

"I'm not a member yet."

"Key word being yet." He said opening the door for her.

Once inside Lucy saw numerous piles of paperwork scattered around the small cramp office. It was dimly lit by a few candles making her wonder how nothing was set ablaze in the room.

"Are you the new recruit." Asked a male voice long since heard, but not yet forgotten.

Looking at the desk did she see the guild master who was looking through several forms. He had fadind red hair + mustache, and green eyes. On his dome he wore a gray pointed wizards hat, and a navy blue overcoat, and green pants. Lucy recognized him even if he had aged more years than when they last saw each other. The mere sight of him made her blood boil. "Jose Porla!" Nearly shouting the mans name.

"So you know my..." He started as he looked up to see the woman Jaeger wanted to join the guild, but his mouth dropped when he got a good look at her. "Lu-Lucy He-Heartphilia?" Not believing who was standing before him not even caring that she hadn't aged a day.

"What are you doing here?" Both yelled at the same time.

Lucy however didn't want to hear what the former Saint-Wizard had to say. Turning around she went to head out the door, grab Ceandra, and get on the next train heading out of town. Before she could though the door was blasted shut by a small burst of purple magic. Turning around she store daggers at the now standing wizard ready to fight him if necessary.

"A lots changed these last seven years." Looking at her hands Jose saw them coated in a black magic. "For both of us." Speaking softly.

"I thought you were thrown in jail for what you did?" Just keeping herself from yelling. Though she held much anger at the former Saint-Wizard most of the anger she felt now was toward her guild for how hard they fought for her, only for them to do what they did months later.

"And I though you were dead." Placing both hand on his desk remembering his past sins toward the blonde.

"In a way I did."

Looking at her hands he still saw the black magic. "You must have if you acquired God-Slaying magic." He may have only seen that magic once before, but it never once left his memories.

"Aren't you supposed to be in jail?" Lucy asked again.

"By all rights I should be." Pulling up his right sleeve Jose showed an iron shackle on his wrist.

"So you broke out?" More than willing to use it as an excuse to pay him back.

"No, no. I was more than willing to serve that sentence after finally seeing what it did to all you young wizards." Voice etched with regret of how he destroyed his own guild, and nearly destroying another.

Lucy soon caught his remorse he was feeling for past sins. "How did you get out of jail then?" For some reason feeling herself ease up, and her magic faded.

"I wasted away in my cell for two years." In that time he came to terms with what Makarov had told him about how he could have lead the next generation to a brighter future instead of leading them into darkness. "At the end of that second year a man named Lahar gave me an offer. If I were to use my knowledge and new found peace to guide your generation like I should have they'd allow me freedom." Tapping his shackles on his desk. "So long as I limit myself to a single town in which I would do as I was asked."

"So you formed a new guild here in Inora."

"It took me nearly five long years to turn Angel Wing into an official guild." Not regretting a single thing he had done in those five years doing as he should have with Phantom Lord.

"Where is everyone?" Curious to where all the guild members where.

"To be honest you'd make the fifteenth member if you were to join us." Jose said. "Currently the only ones here are Jaeger, Albarn, and Lute. Eight of them are out on missions, while the other three are helping out with this years harvest." Pointing out at the farmlands through the window behind him.

"What? How can a guild have so few members?"

"Jeager did tell you we only just became official a few months ago right?"

"Yeah!"

"That's because the minimum for a guild is twelve. Up until that point most of our income came from running odd jobs through the town."

"Do you want me to join for my new power?" Lucy asked.

Jose looked up at her with a questioning look.

"Jaeger told me about the Grand Magical Games coming up. He said you needed another strong member"

"Someone of your power would help..."

"To win you 30 million jewels?"

"Ha, ha, ha." He started to chuckle.

"What's so funny?"

"I have no delusions of actually winning the games."

"Then..."

"I simply wish to use those games to get the name Angel Wing on the lips of the public. Your powers would be a welcome addition, but not completely necessary. If I were to show up with only weak mages I wouldn't mind. I no longer care about only having strong members in my guild." Pausing for a moment. " I want to show everyone that I have changed for the better, that I'm no longer that ruthless man who shed so much meaningless blood." Small tears had formed in the corners of his eyes.

Right then the God-Slayer saw it. 'Jose really wants to redeem himself.' She wanted to still hate him, but couldn't find it in her to do it anymore. Not after seeing how he wants to help guide the next generation to the future. "Alright I'll join." Lucy said. "But if you go back to who you were I'll tear you apart." Gathering a ball of black magic in her left hand.

"I wouldn't have it any other way." He grinned happy to have another join his growing guild. "Albarn has the stamp with our insignia on it." Rummaging through a drawl he pulled out a key and tossed it at the blonde. "Your room number is 13, and you are welcome to use it as long as you like or until you find a different place to live here in Inora." Taking a seat. "Also that room is big enough for both you and your familiar."

"H-How did you...?"

"Jeager told me." Intertwining his fingers to rest his chin on. "I would wager his senses surpass those of the Dragon Slayers. He could smell nothing but magic from her." Pausing for a moment. "It's quite rare for someone to have one now a days." Seeing concern spread on the blondes face. "Don't worry anyone who would look them up would soon learn they swear eternal loyalty to their master."

"Mother!" Lucy corrected the old man only to get a strange look back. "I don't know how exactly, but I created her with my magic. But with how young I look I'm going to have her call me Nee-San."

Jose nodded his head. "Very well."

"Anything else you want to tell me before I head downstairs?"

"We leave for the games in twelve days. As you will be on the team I can't risk you doing any missions. In the meantime I suggest you get used to Inora." Turning around in his chair to look out the window. "This is a nice town to live in. I hope you come to enjoy it too." 'And find peace in your heart.' Feeling a hatred from her that once ruled him.

After closing the door she looked at the key in her hand. Looking to her left she saw a door with the number 13 on it. "I guess this is home for now." 'Guess I better go down and get used to my new...Nakama.' Part of her thinking it too soon to call these new people Nakama yet.

Walking down the stair did Lucy see that Jeager had downed half a dozen more of his bombs, Lute clutching his head with an empty glass in the other, and Albarn smiling and giggling at how the two boys reacted to their drinks.

"Ah Lucy come over here." Jeager slurred with a drunken blush waving his new friend over.

Before walking over to the bar she stopped to see that Ceandra was still sleeping soundly on the couch. 'Wow she really must be out of it.' Looking at the clock the girl had now slept for ten hours. 'Then again she might just be like that.' Not having full grasp of her memories of the last seven years.

"So are you joining in or not?" Nearly falling off of his seat.

"You've had to much." Lute said, half tempted to push him off his seat to see how he'd react.

"No I haven't." Getting up out of his seat to do a few laps around the tables only to trip and land hard on one of them before he could make the first turn. "Okay I've had to much." He groaned as he got back up.

The bluenette starting to laugh out loud at the older mans stupidity as he walked back to his seat.

"So are you joining." Albarn asked pulling the stamp out.

Lucy answered her question by showing off the room key.

Smiling. "What color do you want and Where do you want it.

"Pink and on my right..." Stopping before she said hand. Flashes of Fairy Tail flooded her mind when she almost made the same combo as last time. This silenced her for several moments.

Adjusting the color to pink. "Where do you want your mark?"

"Black on the back of my left hand." Stretching out her left to get marked.

Making a readjustment on the color she then went to stamp the mark where the new guild member wanted it.

"Yay, time to celebrate." Jeager jumped up with a bomb in hand only to fall down to the floor spilling the drink all over the floor.

"You've celebrated too much already." Lute complained as he helped the man back to the bar to sit down. "Loss some weight man, you weigh to much."

Ruffling the younger mans hair up as he sat back down. "Or maybe you should try working out you little slacker."

"Second thought." Kicking the bar stool Jeager sat down on from underneath him. "You should take a nap."

"Owe." Landing shoulder first on the hardwood floor.

Albarn giggled at the action of the two boys.

"Besides celebrating with only four people would be a sucky celebration." Sitting back down. "Another vanilla milk shake please." Showing his empty glass to the bartender.

"Coming right up Lute." Albarn said taking the dirty glass away before making the new drink.

For some reason Lucy couldn't help but smile at how the three acted. Looking at her new black Angel Winged guild mark she thought. 'Maybe joining this guide won't be a bad thing.' Already feeling attached to the trio. Looking over at the still sleeping Ceandra she hoped she to would come to love her new home. Despite all the warm feelings she was getting she couldn't help but feel lonely no longer having Gabriel. But despite only being a member of Angel Wing for only a few minutes she knew if the other members were like Jaeger, Lute, and Albarn that lonely feeling would slowly fade in time. She hoped. She also hoped she could come to trust this new guild of her's, but with how things ended with Fairy Tail she knew that her trust would take longer to build up than replacing the feeling of loneliness

Before she could join in with the others she heard the front door being opened.

Looking over at the entrance did Lucy see a man walk in who was about the same height as her. The man had spiky black hair, and cool blue eyes. His red guild mark visible on his right shoulder. He wore black shorts with red waist coat that had black trimmings. His upper body was only covered by a black tank-top with a red skull printed on the middle of the chest. Over his shoulders was a simple brown leathered backpack. He didn't even bother to look at anything as he walked up the stairs pulling a key out of his front left pocket.

"Who was that guy?" Lucy asked referring to the black haired man.

"Shirahama." Albarn answered serving Lucy her a bowl of soup and bread for dinner. "Or Shiro for short."

"Shirahama." Repeating the name. She didn't know why, but she felt something...off about the man.

"He's the Guild's Ace." Lute said.

"And currently the only other S-Class wizard beside myself." Jeager said without a single slur, as he looked up at the ceiling.
