Chapter 7

Two years have passed. Loki managed to keep a surprisingly low profile. Snape was spying for him at both sides: he knew that the deatheaters were still pretending they had Jo, keeping the Ministry in their hands. The aurors made a poor attempt to search through the Malfoy Manor, looking for no one knows what, but of course they didn't find anything or anyone. The hidden passages were far too protected for anyone to just simply find them.

The Bright Side was much more complicated. While the scepter's magic had Snape consider what was the best for Loki first, he still had to live is normal life and pay off his debt. I'm sure most of you know the story how he tried to save Dumbledore's life from the curse first, then, in the same year he was made to kill the headmaster. Thanks to the Order of the Phoenix, he figured out that the golden Trio was hunting for horcruxes and both he and Loki got really worried when they lost track of the Boy Who Lived. They agreed to help the kids - Snape figured that after everything was over, it would be easier to kill the boy who still knew much less than the Dark Lord and whose favourite spell was still Stupefy.

So when the young Weasley returned home, Snape secretly put a tracking spell on him, followed him to the forest, put the Sword of Gryffindor into the river and with the help of his patronus he led Potter to it, hoping he could figure out the rest.

And then came the waiting. Again.

In the meanwhile Jo was teaching Loki about magic and how the world she lived in worked. Even the scepter's magic couldn't take away her wit and humor. She was beautiful and the sparkling blue eyes made her look like she was from another realm. she told Loki everything she could, not just about magic, but her family and the people around her, and the more Loki began to understand, the more he grown to like her. He had to keep reminding himself that she was there to help him take over the Ministry and not for… other enjoyment.

'Maybe after' he thought 'once I rule the world and I don't need her anymore.'

He never had any problem with the ladies, one could say he was a real womanizer, but he never had an "affair" with someone who he had to keep close to himself for a longer amount of time. He prefered not to see his lovers after a week…

So he learned, planned and waited. And waited and waited and waited and waited some more.

Until the day came...

-They are planning an attack! - said Snape, almost bursting into the living room of the Shrieking Shack. The inside of the house looked completely different than what the outsiders guessed now that Loki and Jo lived inside it. The rooms were decorated elegantly, with hints of green and gold everywhere, books lining up on the shelves with mysterious shadows playing on them in the dimmed lights.

-Hm? - said Loki, not even looking up from the book he was reading.

-The Dark Lord. He is going to attack the castle with all the deatheaters. The boy appeared in the school today he's searching for a horcrux, I think it might be the last one except him... The teachers and the students lined up to protect him, so I had to flee. But the Dark Lord is here, today is your day, the perfect chance to take over.

Loki put down his book with a serious face. He leaned forward for a second, resting his arm on his knees as he thought about how to use the information.

-Go, do what he wants you to. -came the order - I'll be close to Potter to make sure he kills that damn man, so I can kill him as soon as it's over.

His magic magic kept him hidden from everyone, even the ghosts, so he could easily make his way to Harry. During his years of waiting he heard a lot of stories about the adventures of the Golden Trio and the history of Hogwarts. He didn't have to listen to their conversations to know he had to things to take care of. First, the diadem.

He had no idea where it could be or how could the kid destroy it... But he knew exactly who could know about it. He hurried through the corridors, he was sure Potter could figure about what he was thinking and he needed to get to the person before him. Loki had a couple of magical powers Harry didn't and it seemed very likely that the Lady he was looking for wouldn't even talk to the kid.

It didn't take him longer than 10 minutes to run into - or rather run through her. He showed his best smile and took off the disguise spell.

-Ah, dear Helena, so good to see you. - he said in a charming tone. The Grey Lady froze in the air and turned his direction, looking even more pale than Loki thought it would be possible. Her horrified expression quickly changed into a mix of surprise and suspiciousness.

-You are not from this world, I can feel it on you... What do you want from me?

-Nothing darling, it really is a nothing. I assume a boy will be looking for you soon and I'm sure you would love to have a little chat with him. - Loki said with a smirk.

-So you want me to talk with someone... And why would I do that? - Loki felt that his magic working on the ghost, but she still had doubts, which made him angry... But since - unfortunately - the scepter only worked on the living, he made himself calm down and answered.

-Well, mostly because you share some interests... You might even have a common friend. - he said sarcastically, thinking about Voldemort and he had no idea that it would turn out they really did have a common friend, Luna.

After that he just smiled at Helena Ravenclaw and walked away. The other problem he had to solve was that the Trio still had another horcrux that should be destroyed. He ran around the castle a few times before he found Ron and Hermione standing together, holding the Marauders' Map. Loki stepped right next to Ron and whispered into his ears, just barely loud enough for him to hear it.

-Chamber...

-Hm? - the young Weasley said, looking up at Hermione, but she was so busy studying the map, she didn't even notice.

-The Chamber of Secrets... - Loki started again and this time Ron realised what the "voice in his head" was telling him.

He snapped the map out of Hermione's hands and he studied it close for a second.

-Bloody hell... - he said amused.

-Ronald, it's no time to stalk... - started Hermione but she couldn't finish the sentence, because Ron started running, dragging her by the hand after him.

-I know how to destroy the cup! - he shouted before disappearing from Loki's view.

He lost track of all of them for a while and the next time he found them was when they were running towards his temporary home where Voldemort was hiding at the moment. He was very glad that in the last minute before leaving he disguised the place, otherwise the changes inside could have raise some questions...

'No, no, no, not yet, he still needs to tell the boy...' he thought while he watched Nagini letting his fangs inside Snape. The kids ran up to him, but it was too late, they couldn't help him and now he was useless for Loki too... Or maybe... Maybe not completely useless just yet.

Give him the memories came the silent order and when the Professor's eyes closed forever a thought passed through his mind that he was a good warrior... and a good man...

Loki followed Harry into the forest that night and saw him 'reunite" with his family. Sadness washed over him as he thought 'This boy had lost everyone who loved him from his family and he still gets more love than me. The father is dead, but his son is still the most important thing for him, not like my... Not like Thor's father...'

He watched the boy throw away the stone... He picked it up and put it in his pocket. Harry Potter stood in front of Voldemort and soon both of them fell to the ground.

A minute of silence.

As the deatheaters gathered around their leader, he knelt beside the kid. They all waited, holding their breath back. Then finally he heard noises from the circle of people as they helped Voldemort on his feet. But Harry still didn't move...

Loki started to get worried that his plan might fail as the Dark Lord sent a woman to seen if the Boy Who Lived was dead. She knelt beside him and took Harry's pulse. She whispered something Loki couldn't hear. As Harry said a weak Yes, they both let out a relieved sigh. To Loki's surprise, the woman immediately looked at him, right in the eyes, as if she saw him.

When their eyes met, Loki caught something so beautiful in her that he couldn't let her go. He extended his shields, so she would be able to see and hear him. They locked eyes and suddenly memories started flashing through his mind.

'Legilimency' he could hear Jo's voice saying the word inside his head when she was teaching him about it. But the sudden the memories came, the quickery they stopped.

-So much power - Narcissa said and she touched Loki's face - But so, so much sadness... - he let her thumb gently stroke his cheek. He felt like he was under some spell, something about this woman started something deep inside him. He leaned forward, closing the distance between them and he kissed her, letting himself get lost in the sensation.

-Well? - they heard Voldemort's impatient voice calling as they tried to catch their breath. Narcissa gave Loki one last mysterious smile, than rose up, leaving the shield and losing sight of Loki.

-Dead. - Was all she said and she walked back to the rest of the deatheaters.

Most of the night's memoried blurred together together as Loki tried to protect Harry with his own shields but also looking for the blonde locks of hair in the crowd. The fighting seemed to come to an end as Harry Potter and Voldemort faced each other in the ruins of the Great Hall.

'Well, he's not bad at speaking' Loki thought as he listened Potter talk about Snape, sometimes smiling to himself on the herois description of the man who was really just his clever puppet in these past few years.

But the talking stopped too when the opponents raised their wands. That was the moment when Loki realised that locking spells won't save the boy this time. Yes, the wand would probably fly to it's owner, but that can't stop Voldemort from casting the deadly spell. It was probably because the heat of the moment, but forgetting about all his disguise, Loki stepped next to Harry, visible to everyone in the room and raising his scepter, with the spell Voldemort himself put on it as protection, he bounced back the killing course straight at the evil wizard.

Potter caught the Elder Wand in the air while the lifeless body of Voldemort fell to the ground.

The war was over.

The kid won, just as Loki wanted, and this was the perfect moment to kill him and have the absolute power, but it didn't matter anymore. All that mattered was to find the beautiful blonde hair in the silent crowd.

However, the golden curls he spotted first did not belong to his mysterious woman.

As the remainings of the doors of the room bursted open, Thor flew in with his hammer in his hand, landing right next to Loki. When he saw the dead bodies around them, he awkwardly turned to the crowd and said:

-I apologise for everything my brother has done, I'll make sure he gets what he deserves for his actions.

Some people quietly laughed as Hermione stepped forward.

-He just helped to kill the evilest wizard who ever existed. He's a hero. - she said, matter of factly.

-What? - Thor was completely confused. They couldn't be talking about the same Loki...

Harry turned to Loki.

-Your brother? - he asked, looking at the two men who couldn't have looked more different.

Loki looked at him with a faint hint of smile.

-I was adopted.

The End.
