Family in Flames
"Lea! Come on!" The blue-haired boy stamped his foot.
"I'm comin' Isa!" The red-headed boy ran after his friend. He held up some munny, "My Mom said we could get ice cream!"
His friend smiled, "Let's go!" The two ran down the road to the center of town.
Scrooge McDuck stood at his stand, smiling as the two boys dashed towards him. "Ah there ya are, ya wee lads! I've been expecting ya all morning."
"Mr. Scrooge," Lea held out the munny, "Can we have two sea salt ice creams, please?"
"Let me see," he turned around and began digging, "Ah, here we are!" He held out the two light-blue bars to the five and six year olds.
"Thank you Mr. Scrooge!"
The boys went and sat on the baily wall, eating. Lea turned, his green eyes catching a glimpse of a girl coming their way. "Arleen!" The blonde girl looked up. "Come sit with us!"
"Ok!" She ran over and clambered onto the wall beside them. "Did you guys get me one?" Her eyes fixed on the ice cream.
"Sorry," Isa took a bite of his; the six year old not wanting to share.
Lea looked at his treat and sighed, "Here, you can have mine." He handed it to the girl.
She smiled and took a bite, "Thanks Lea!"
The red-head sat there in silence before perking up, "Hey! Check it out, I learned something cool!" He jumped off and held out his hands, palms up. A ball of flame appeared; his friends stared in awe at this.
Arleen jumped down to him, "Wow Lea, you're really cool!" Her eyes glittered.
Lea stared happily, so happy that he forgot to control his spell. The fire ball grew in his hand and blew up, blasting soot in his and Arleen's face. He coughed, "That was an accident…"
"Really…?" The girl glared at him, the ice cream in her hand instantly melting. "You meanie!" She hit him.
"Hey!"
"I'm gonna kill you!" The blonde girl sparked with angry electricity.
Lea stared at her before running, "AHHHHHH!" She chased him through the streets, trying to shock him with her electric magic.
The boy ran around a corner and hunched down; the angry girl ran past him. He took a deep breath and got up to leave. Three voices, coming towards him, caused him to freeze and hunch back down.
"Do I really have to leave tomorrow, I'd like to give my son a little time to process this."
"I'm sorry, but this is an emergency."
"Don't worry, Reno. This will only take a week or two."
Lea knew the voices; it was his dad, Shinra Director Tseng, and Shinra President Shinra. Tseng sighed, "You always make such a problem when it comes to your family."
"I love my wife and son and want to spend time with them; I don't like leaving them all the time, especially since my son is only five years old."
"I don't really care that…"
"Dad…" Lea stood up, in full view of the three men. "You're leaving again?"
Rufus Shinra looked at the boy, "What are you doing here, Mr. Fahrenheit?"
"I was hiding from Arleen," the five year old shuffled his feet, "she was trying to kill me…" His green eyes looked to his dad. "Are you really leaving again?"
"Yes," Tseng answered for Reno, "Your father has to leave for work tomorrow…"
"Tseng! Let me talk to him!" The man took his son by the hand and led him away. "Lea, I have to go away for a little while, but I'll come back. I promise you, I'll be back in two weeks, tops."
"Promise?" Lea held out his pinkie finger."
"Promise!" His dad pinkie-promised; Rufus smiled at this while Tseng just rolled his eyes. Reno turned to the two men, "I'm going to head on home and explain things to my wife. I will report for duty tomorrow."
"I will expect you there!" President Shinra nodded and turned, Tseng glared at the father and son before following suit.
Reno picked up his son, "Let's go home…"
Lea sat and watched as his father packed to leave. "Reno, do you have to go?"
"You know I do, Cissnei. As much as I don't want to, I must go." He glanced at Lea, "I'll be back though." He held up his pinkie, "I promised short-stuff over there I would."
Lea smiled brightly at his father's reassurance. "Two weeks, tops!"
"That's right!"
Cissnei kissed her husband's cheek, "Then you better get to sleep early. Speaking of sleep, it's someone's bedtime…"
"Mom… can't I stay up… please?"
She went over and picked up her son, "No… time for bed."
"I don't wanna…"
Early the next morning, Lea awoke to the sound of his door opening. Reno walked in and sat on his bed. "I'll see you in two weeks, Lea."
"Daddy," the five year old sat up and hugged his Dad, "I'm gonna miss you."
"I'll miss you too, son." He kissed his son's cheek before standing up, "I'll be back before you know it!" With that, he left.
Lea waited… and waited… one week, two weeks, three weeks, one month, two months… one year later, and Reno still had not returned… his son gave up all hope of seeing him again… and he believed, no, he thought he knew, that his father hated and had abandoned him…
Dang… I do not like what I did to Lea at all. It's short but you get the point…
I'm not a Larxel {Larxene (Arleen) x Axel (Lea)} fan but I thought that would be kinda fun to have the reason why she doesn't really like him all that well.
This was the last one so please review!
I'll have an epilogue, but it will only be a poem.
