Artemis gritted her teeth and ducked back behind cover as another ray of green light hit the large mound of upturned dirt she was hiding behind. The explosion shook the foundations of the arena and blew dust into the archer's lose platinum blond locks.
'I have to move.'
She thought as she glanced wildly around the arena, searching for a new hiding place until she could formulate a new plan. A large meteor rock stood 30 meters to her left. Without thinking, she flipped up onto the top of her current hiding place, drew her construct bow string back to her cheek, and fired three arrows in rapid succession. She had no time to see in her arrows hit their mark, because she had already taken a flying leap towards her new haven. But judging the shout of pain and fury, her arrows hit home.
Artemis whirled around behind the rock cover, just in time.
A blast of green energy collided with the rock, twice as powerful as the ones before it. The other mound of dirt wouldn't have stood an attack like this one. Once the blast faded, Artemis peeked over the top of the rock. Her mask had gone missing somewhere around the arena where the massive pig man was now throwing debris out of the way, trying to reach her location. Thankfully, the fact Artemis was at least three times smaller than him made a difference. For her, it was hardly a problem to flip and glide through the maze of debris that came from the upper left wall, probably from a minor ray of energy. Kilowog roared with anger somewhere to her left. Artemis huddled deeper into the shadows of her rock, waiting for a chance to strike. If she moved swiftly and evaded sight, she just might make it out of this one alive. She looked out to the side. He was about 15 feet away. Now ten.
Artemis froze, careful to control her breathing and stay out of sight. Something she had learned from Robin and Batman, ' If you keep perfectly still and stick to the shadows it is unlikely someone will see you. However, if they are expecting a person to follow them. You can get by unnoticed.' Hopefully, Kilowog didn't spot where she ran. 7 feet away. He turned his back to her, picking through the rubble to the right side of the room. Now was the archer's chance to make a break for it.
She carefully stepped out of the shadows, keeping her arms crossed in front of her. She carefully took a step. Then another, she was almost there! Artemis crouched, ready to pounce when the most horrifying sound she ever heard admitted from the ring.
"Lalin! You there?"
'Oh no.'
Kilowog whirled around at a surprising speed for a person his size, his signature giant green hammer forming. Artemis, caught by surprise, gasped. It caught her in the lower left rib, sending her flying into the air. There was no time for the Archer to regain her balance. All she could do was form a circular green shield around herself.
Artemis's thoughts slurred. The world faded into black as she hurtled towards the ground in a giant green bubble.
Hal watched as Artemis soared towards the ground in shock.
"Guy, ring call her back. Make sure she's okay." John ordered, not taking his eyes of the scene.
Guy held the ring to his ear as other lanterns floated around him.
"I can't believe she held on for so long." Arisia murmured, her eyes wide with shock.
On the wall was a clock which had the local time zone listed in various languages. In the English translation, Hal could read 45 minutes and 23 seconds. A new lantern record. Arisia's mentor, Tomar-Re stood by her, holding an old book full green lantern evaluation forms. He was flipping through the book at an amazing speed and mumbling under his breath.
Across the room, Guy yelped. Hal could faintly hear a long string of undistinguishable words coming for the ring.
"She's okay! Really pissed off though."
There was a collective sigh of relief.
"And its official!"
Tomar-Re slammed the book shut.
"Artemis official holds the record of longest first time fighting with a power ring, overtaking the old champion Ch'p by 22 minutes and 3.86 second."
"I could have beaten her in a fight."
Said fluffy squirrel looking creature huffed. Hal chuckled and glanced back out at the arena. Soranik had rushed downstairs the minute Artemis had gone flying, and was now helping Artemis out of the large dent in the ground she had made. The girl was muttering some very unflattering comments about a certain hammer swinging giant, the nicest being something along the lines of 'I swear to god I will kill that ugly pig nosed man.' She was helped onto a glowing green stretcher by a med assistant the Hal didn't know, and together the assistant and Soranik flew away.
"Come on guys. Shows over."
He grabbed John's shoulder and Guy's wrist. The two turned to look at him.
"I want to go check on Artemis."
The two green lanterns glanced at each other before shrugging and together the three flew towards the clinic.
Artemis winced as the young lantern with orange skin and short black hair that introduced herself as Soranik Natu, wrapped a bandage tightly around her fractured ribs. Soranik looked up, her violet eyes showing concern.
"Did that hurt?"
She questioned, tucking a strand of black hair behind her small ear. Artemis bit her lip and nodded. Soranik carefully loosened the bandage before wrapping it tightly in waterproof tape.
"And...done!"
The surgeon said triumphantly as she ripped the tape.
"Now,"
She brushed the invisible dirt off her collared uniform.
"I want you to take it easy for the next few hours, but you should be glad you didn't break anything."
Soranik turned around and picked up her clip board.
"Your vitals are good, and you don't seem to have any diseases. Any questions?"
A pounding on the door interrupted any questions Artemis had. The violet eyed alien sighed and opened the door, letting in a flood of male human lanterns.
"Are you okay Lalin?" Guy asked, taking a seat next to her.
"Guy Gardener, I am going to kill you." She growled. Guy's face turned pale and gulped loudly.
"I think I'll go sit over there."
He scurried over to a corner and hid his face.

"I think I'll go sit over there."
He scurried over to a corner and hid his face.
"You sure you're all right, ?" Hal said, concern written clearly over his face. Artemis shrugged, and then winced.
"I'll be alright."
Hal nodded, seeming satisfied with that answer. His eyes went up to the mirror behind the bed Artemis was currently occupying. At first she thought he was checking his reflection, then she realized he was looking at something behind him. Artemis peeked to the left of John's body, who had remained silent until now. Kyle and Soranik were talking, except that Soranik kept blushing and Kyle was acting like his hand was permanently attached to the back of his neck.
'Well there goes my chance.' Artemis thought. She turned back to Hal and John.
"How long has that been going on?" She whispered.
"A couple months." John replied quietly, realizing the important of silence.
"There's even a countdown going on. I still say it will be two weeks." Hal glared at John.
"And I say a month." John replied evenly.
"We will just have to wait and see."
Artemis leaned forward, her eyes sparkling eagerly.
"Where do I sign up?"
Hal and John smiled. This was going to be an interesting day.
Let the trolling begin! Hal and Laira will have their hands full with this one! Robin and Batman would be so proud.
