Chapter 7

We met Heather right on schedule, and she was very happy to see us or maybe just me but I couldn't tell.

"Come on inside, we'll be more comfortable." She told us, and we did so gathering in the living room.

"So why do you need our help?" Hannibal asked getting right to the point, I couldn't really blame him the army was still looking for us after all.

"Sam, do you recognize this place?" Heather asked me ignoring Hannibal's question.

"No, I've never been here before." I replied taking a sweep of the room by turning my head to the left and then to the right, I didn't know anything about this place.

"Mr. Smith, I need your help to show Sam that this was our father's home. I'm your half sister, Sam." She said going back to Hannibal's question but her announcing she was my half sister! That threw me off completely, it couldn't be true.

"No way, my father would never do that. I may have lost him when I was young but he was a good man." I argued heading over towards her but Hannibal held me back.

"Sit down Sam, I'm sure she has an explanation for this." he stated and gave me a little shove towards the chair.

It hurt a little but I got the point and sat down, the others did too.

"I was born in 1959, I'm twenty-six and you were born in 61' so you're twenty-four. Both our birth certificates state Jack Tony Porter as our father." she said spitting out facts that proved it well enough but I still had questions.

"If he was with another woman then, and cared about her enough to get her pregnant. Then why didn't he marry her? Or help raise you?" I questioned.

"He didn't love my mother, and he did help by sending money, and writing me letters. My mother died when I was four so I went to live with my grandma, he still sent letters and even made an appearance at her funeral. Then roughly four years later the letters stopped, and my grandma found out that he was gone. I attended his funeral hiding way in the back, just like he had done for my mom. I knew about you and wanted to tell you once you were old enough but then you joined the army and I lost track of where you were until yesterday. I couldn't believe my eyes when they brought you in." Heather explained, and took deep breaths to keep herself calm and collected.

I let it sink in, and sifted through all the information. Nobody said a word, which helped me to concentrate. Heather left no doubt she was my half sister, there was one other thing bothering me.

"Alright, you really are my half sister but why did you bring me here?" I said finally catching everyone's attention.

She smiled, "There is a trunk upstairs with your name ingraved in the lid, it belongs to you."

"We'll get it for you." Hannibal said and motioned for B.A to go with him.

"It's in the last room on the right." She told him and they went upstairs.

"So you tell Sam here all about you and that you're his half sister, for what? To be a part of his life? To take him away with you?" Face questioned.

"Face!" I exclaimed surprised he'd ask something like that.

"It's alright Sam. I did this so Sam would know the truth, what happens next is up to him." Heather replied evenly.

Face nodded and backed off while the guys returned with the trunk.

Heather stood up, "We should leave you alone, so you can have some privacy. I'll make you all some coffee."

"Just call if need us." Murdock said as he passed giving my shoulder a little squeeze in comfort, and then they were gone.

The trunk that was old style made from wood with black iron covering the outside edges, stood at my feet already to be opened. Did I really want to open it?

There was no telling what other secrets it might hold, I closed my eyes and thought about what my mother would do in this situation.

'Sam, I'd want to know what Jack had left me. It might be shocking and painful or it could be the most wonderful thing in the world. It's like he always said, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.'

I heard her voice clearly in my mind, and looked at the trunk again; taking a breath and thinking of my father's words I opened it...

Sorry, it's short.
