Chapter 7: Finding a Rebel

'Now where could she be…?' I wonder as I walked around the school looking for Isabella. I'd just gotten done settling in my new living space and a brief conversation with my roommate, who'd been in the dorm for his free period. And from what he'd told me when I asked if he knew Isabella, I was honestly surprised.

Finn had explained about the whole rebellion going on around the school and that my best friend, who had always been a stickler for the rules, was a part of it. Now I definitely wanted to find her as soon as possible.

I sighed when I came to the end of a hallway, wondering where I should turn to next. I didn't bother to take the map I'd been given, though now I wish I had. Even if Isabella had a class at the moment, I could've used it to find where she was likely to be. Now I was just going to have to wing it-

"Hello there! Are you new?" A girl with blond curly hair suddenly asked as she came up to me.

"Yeah, I am." I replied.

"Well welcome to Ever After High." The girl's red rose colored lips curved upward into a smile. "I'm Apple White, and you are?"

"Peter Pan Junior."

Apple's smile fell a bit as soon as I introduced myself.

"Oh, you mean the son of Peter Pan and the last Wendy?" She asked.

"Yeah, I am. Got a problem with it?" I questioned with a bit of annoyance.

"Apparently, Ms. Royal does have a problem." A voice said from behind me when Apple doesn't reply for a long moment. "She has a problem with everything that has to do with a rebellion, just like that dumb headmaster."

I look over my shoulder to see another girl with velvet red hair that was tied back in a low ponytail. Pale blue eyes glared at Apple as she crossed her arms, seeming to bore into her soul.

Looking back at Apple, I saw her step back with a slightly hurt expression. The other girl then proceeded to turn her gaze on me, not paying any more attention to Apple

"Sorry for interrupting. Couldn't help but overhear." She says. "Though I'm certain you must be grateful for it, considering how annoyed you sounded."

I shrug, not sure how to answer. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Apple run off, and felt couldn't help but sigh in relief. Just like the headmaster, I didn't like how she had even looked at me after I had introduced myself.

"Well, anyway, you wouldn't by chance be Isabella Rosalina's best friend, right?" The girl asks.

"That's me. You know her?"

"Sure do. A real odd princess, though. Gotta say I never met someone of royal birth who acts the way she does. Much less rebel against her destined role as a classic fairy tale."

I blinked. There was that word again.

"So she's really one of the Rebels?" I question.

"Yep. You could say she's like Raven Queen's second in command since she's so devoted to the cause." The girl laughs a bit at her own words

I was stunned into silence. Where did this sudden attitude in Isabella come from?

"Would you know where she is?" I asked, only for the girl to shake her head in response.

"I'm afraid I don't. I don't see her much outside of lunch. Then again, I always have to be around two princes I'm supposed to look after." The girl pinches the bridge of her nose.

"Two princes? What are you talking about?"

"Oh, right. Haven't introduced myself, have I? Name's Kelsey Shield, next Kayley from the legend of Quest for Camelot." The girl smiles proudly. "And the princes I have to guard are Johnny and Derek Pendragon, the sons of King Arthur."

"Whoa, really?" I couldn't stop the surprised look that came to my face. "But how? You're from a legend and yet you're here at a school for fairytales?"

"Apparently this school makes room for both nursery rhymes and legends, so yeah." Kelsey shrugs before looking at a nearby clock.

I give a nod, looking at the floor. So even the children of legends were doomed too…

"Say, now that I think about it, now might be Isabella's free period, so she might be outside," Kelsey says suddenly, grabbing my attention.

"Really?"

"Yeah, maybe."

"Cool, thanks!"

Kelsey laughs and nods.

"Welcome." She says, starting to walk away. "Good luck finding her."

I sigh as I sit down on a bench in frustration. It's been about an hour and no sign of Isabella anywhere. I pull back the hood of the cloak I had put on, having thought it best to lay low until I found my friend and not be swarmed by a lot of other fairytales. Now I didn't care. If I couldn't find her, I'd let her see me and come to me despite the fact I wanted to surprise her.

I sat there for a while, hoping that she would pass by when I heard a bell ring. Students came pouring out of the school, several of which I noticed glance at me with a curious look in their eyes. I could tell they wanted to come and talk to me, but they didn't, apparently hurrying to get to their next class.

That was when a girl dressed from crown to toe in pink (hex, even her hair was the same color) parted ways from the crowd, heading towards me. Her clothes were adorned with some hearts and arrows, and I noticed a pair of feather like wings sprouting from her back. A kind smile spread upon her face as she came closer, walking a little faster.

'Oh no, not this…' I thought as I stood up. One thing about looking exactly like father was that girls tended to swoon over me just from one small glance. Isabella and I always called it my own little "curse".

I went to leave, but I was only able to take a few steps before the girl called out to me.

"Wait! I just want to ask you something!"

I grumbled underneath my breath as I all but stopped right where I was. I turned back to face the girl slowly.

"Yes?"

"Are you Peter Pan's son?" The girl asked with a hexcited look in her bright blue eyes.

"Junior." I introduced myself with a nod, though I was tempted to just not answer.

The girl grinned as though she had come from Wonderland. I groaned, dreading what she was about to say then.

"And what brings you here to Ever After High?" She questions.

"My parents enrolled me here. Also, I'm trying to find my best friend, Isabella Rosalina." I reply, hoping that was enough to make her lose interest in me. Yet this only makes her giggle.

"Awwww!" The girl swoons. "She'll be so glad to see you! She's really missed you, Junior."

"Wait, you know her?"

"Sure do. She's a fellow Rebel who's in need of some major cheering up-ing."

"What do you mean? What happened? Is she okay? Did someone hurt her?" The questions leave my mouth in a hurry, my heart beating faster out of worry.

The girl's smile fades.

"Yes, someone hurt her. Right in here." She places a hand over her heart to signify where Isabella was hurt.

"Who hurt her? I'm gonna find whoever did it and show them a thing or two." I say out of anger.

"That's the thing though. You hurt her."

"M-Me?"

The girl gives a nod.

"You ignored her. She thought you hated her for not going against her parent's wishes of her coming here. Even though she found that promise ring you left for her, she's still heartbroken." She explains, and I feel as though I've been jabbed with a sword of guilt right in my chest. I … hurt her?

I feel as though I'm about to collapse where I stand.

"But," The girl speaks again. "That's part of why she's a Rebel. It's because she wants to be with you and not a beast."

"What...?" My eyes widen a bit. "You're saying Isabella…"

The girl's smile widens again as she nods. A mix of emotions come over me, yet the most dominant one is pure joy…

"I can't believe it … after all this time…" I say aloud, pacing a bit before looking at the girl. "Wait, how do you know that?"

"It's my job to know. I am Cupid after all."

"Cupid?!" It was just one shock after another today. "First I run into a legend and now a myth?!"

Cupid busts out laughing.

"You're funny, Junior." She remarks as another bell rings. Just like Kelsey, she begins to walk away, likely to get to her next class. However she pauses and turns back to me. "You get a move on. Isabella's waiting."

I nod as I pull my hood up and break out in a brisk walk. For the first time in a while, I myself grinned like the Cheshire Cat.

Derek Pendragon (though mentioned) belongs to The Crystal Gems.
