Jinx was currently not in a good mood. It wasn't just one thing causing her bad mood, but instead several things just had to contribute to it.
Bumblebee was checking out the 'tiny' situation at her team's tower, so Jinx and Starfire had lost the backbone of their babysitting trio. She took Argent and Aqualad with her, but unluckily for JInx and Starfire, she had left the assassin and archer in their care. Jinx figured it was only a matter of time before Cheshire maimed one of them to death with her knives or Starfire killed them all with her cooking.
Jinx decided that if it came down to it, she'd choose the first one. She wouldn't wish death by Tamaranean cuisine upon her worst enemies.
The thing that upset her the most though, was the current display she was watching. Her expression must have gave her bad mood away because Starfire was staring at her worriedly.
"Friend Jinx, is there something wrong?" She asked, stirring a bowl of something that actually looked edible to Jinx. Nope, not edible. Jinx rethought as Starfire urged an escaping tentacle back into the bowl.
"What gave it away?" Jinx asked, not taking her eyes off of the site before her.
"Well," Starfire said, smacking one of the moving tentacles with her spoon. "You seem to be scowling at the friends Kid Flash and Raven."
Jinx sighed. It was true.
She thought she had done the right thing by telling her tiny admirer that he should play with the other kids of his age. He had almost gotten them both sliced to death, for Titan's sake! But as she watched Kid Flash and Raven play house she couldn't help but feel something in her gut. Something that she couldn't quite place…
"Jealousy!" Starfire exclaimed, snapping Jinx from her thoughts.
Jinx raised her eyebrow incredulously at Starfire. "Excuse me?"
Starfire pulled Jinx behind the nearest wall so the kids wouldn't overhear her.
"You are clearly jealous of the friend Raven playing with friend Kid Flash!" She said grinning, while pointing an accusing finger in Jinx's direction.
"I'm not jealous!" Jinx spat, crossing her arms. "Why would I be jealous that he's happy playing games with someone other than me?" She asked. Even as she said the words, however, she was unsure of them.
Starfire rolled her eyes. "Ah yes, you are obviously not the jealous." She said, her voice having the slightest hint of sarcasm.
Jinx blinked confusedly. She didn't even know Starfire could do sarcasm.
"I know that look! I invented the eye roll followed by the sarcastic comment." Jinx hissed.
"Besides," she began. "Not only did Kid Flash follow me around so much that he could've qualified as my shadow, but he also used the cheesiest pickup lines, left me those darn flowers in the weirdest places—"
"And you miss those exact things." Starfire announced, still smiling. She found it amusing that Jinx tried to deny the jealousy so clearly displayed on her face.
"Fine," Jinx said, her shoulders slumping in defeat. "I might be the tiniest bit jealous."
Starfire burst into a fit of giggles. Jinx would've joined her, if she wasn't so busy glaring angrily at Starfire.
"You think this is funny?" She demanded.
Starfire wiped away a tear of laughter. "Actually yes, I find it quite hilarious that you are jealous of something as harmless as children playing together." Starfire thought that if Jinx got any more jealous, her normally pink hair may just turn green with envy.
"It is kind of pathetic." Speedy said, smirking at the startled expressions on the girls faces.
"How long have you been listening to our conversation?" Starfire asked, amazed they hadn't noticed him before.
Speedy casually examined his nails. "Long enough to know that she," he said, pointing towards Jinx. "Is jealous that a kid is actually playing a game. You know, the thing that kids are known for playing. "
"I believe he is trying to purposely annoy you," Starfire whispered to Jinx.
Jinx knew she was right. Speedy got a kick out of annoying everyone. Knowing that, however, didn't stop her from growling at the archer, causing him to take a few steps back.
"Well it's working," she said to Starfire through grit teeth.
"This is none of your business, Speedy." Jinx said, glaring at him. "Aren't you supposed to be playing with your little girlfriend?"
His cheeks reddened at the mention of Cheshire. "We are playing hide and seek. I was looking for her but I found you girly girls instead." Starfire smiled inwardly when she noticed that Speedy's insulting skills were affected almost as much as his age.
"Why is it that you're always the one seeking and she's always the one hiding? Why can't you do it the other way around?" Jinx asked.
"Well if you must know, whenever she tried seeking her assassin instincts took over." He said, matter-of-factly.
"I see how that may have been problematic." Starfire said understandingly. When playing hide and seek with the assassin, there's a chance she could've been seeking you, but there's also a strong chance she was hunting you down with the intentions of ending your life.
"Well this has been fun and all, but I really have to go find Cheshire now." He said, examining his bow.
Jinx raised an eyebrow. "You need a loaded bow and arrow to find Cheshire? Should we be worried?"
Speedy grinned. "Nah, think of the bow and arrow as my insurance." He said while loading an arrow. "Also if I were you, I'd be worried about the state of my relationship instead of what I'm doing." He said with a smirk before quickly slipping around the corner.
Starfire was happy Speedy had left quickly, because once Jinx seemed to realize what he had said her eyes quickly flashed pink, followed by the nearest light bulb exploding.
"Jinx, you must control your temper." She said, attempting to calm her friend. "Friend Speedy was only joking. There is no need to worry—"
"That's just it Starfire," she interrupted. "What if there is a reason to worry?"
"Friends Kid Flash and Raven are merely children, Jinx. I am positive that their friendly playing has no deep affection behind it." Starfire patiently pointed out.
"But what if they get turned back into teenagers and he still chooses her?" Jinx asked, legitimately worried that her sort-of-relationship was at stake.
Starfire scrunched her eyebrows in confusion. "You worry that he shall choose her as his playmate for the game of house?"
The former villainess shook her head. "No I'm worried that—" She was interrupted as she heard the unmistakable sound of one of Speedy's explosive arrows going off.
"I believe that friend Speedy has succeeded in finding Cheshire." Starfire concluded. "I think it is best if I make sure they are the ok. Please, promise me you will not worry over things like this friend Jinx." Starfire pleaded with large green eyes.
Jinx nodded, "Fine. I'll stop worrying."
"Marvelous!" Starfire exclaimed before she heard another explosive arrow detonate and took off in the direction of the sound.
Jinx watched Kid Flash and Raven with half awe. She had to admit, they were adorable. They were so interested in their little game of 'house' that they didn't even realize she had reentered the room.
"More coffee, Kid?" Raven asked, floating over to the tiny table with a toy coffee pot.
"Yes please!" He said enthusiastically as the girl pretended to pour him a cup of coffee.
The older girl couldn't help but roll her eyes. Only Kid Flash would get excited over the mention of imaginary food.
Raven then floated back over to her fake oven. After a second of preparing more fake food she looked over her shoulder towards Kid Flash. "Watcha reading?" She asked.
"Newspaper." He said, holding up the paper so she could see. Jinx held back a laugh. The paper was upside down and he was looking at the advertisement section, obviously having no idea what he was 'reading'.
"I read that one." Raven announced. "Charlie Brown was trying to teach Snoopy tricks."
Kid Flash raised an eyebrow. "Did he teach them to Snoopy?"
Raven shook her head. "There's a reason I said try, sweetie."
How was I jealous about this, Jinx asked herself inwardly. It's official Jinx, she thought. You're paranoid.
Although she had to admit, it did sting a little when she heard Raven refer to Kid Flash as sweetie.
She was just about to mentally award herself with the medal of paranoia when she saw something red out of the corner of her eye. It was when she looked up that Jinx felt her heart stop.
"I've gotta go to work, but you should have this until I get back, kay?" Kid Flash said, handing Raven a red rose. And it didn't even have roots on it like the flowers he had given to Jinx.
"Be safe." Raven replied while smiling fondly at the flower.
Most people may have saw this as a harmless gesture, but to Jinx it meant the end of her world. Ever since Kid Flash had been turned into a child, he had given her dozens of flowers. Daisies, lilies, and even tulips. But the one flower he hadn't given her was the rose, the universal flower of love. The one that teenage Kid Flash had always given her to show that he cared.
She tugged her hair worriedly why thinking of reasons why he may have given Raven a rose but not her. What if he turned into a teenager and he was giving her roses and such instead of Jinx?
And it'd be my fault. She thought sadly. Good job, Jinx. Not only did you lose your tiny shadow, but you may have lost your sort-of boyfriend.
While Jinx continued to mope about her own problems, she failed to notice the teary-eyed little green boy who was now playing in the corner, alone.
That's the end of chapter 7! I've hurt three of my favorite characters in the last two chapters :( I literally don't know what to say about myself. But don't worry, as always, the ending will be happy for all of our Titans! Feel free to review, I'd really appreciate it :)
Also a big thanks to anyone who may have left ideas! If you saw your idea used in this chapter, you get a double thanks :)
Have a nice day!
