To The Other Side

By TimeAndLife21

Selene woke up from a fitful sleep again, gasping for air. She had the urge to just run across the rooftops of Gotham, but she stilled her body and heaved a sigh. She rubbed her forehead and got out of bed. Iron whined from his spot on the king sized bed, wondering why his mistress wasn't sleeping well tonight. She discarded her sleeping gown and stood in front of the large full length mirror in her bathroom and observed herself. It had been two weeks since she was discharged from the hospital and 4 days since Dr. Gretchen Whistler came to her home for a psych eval. She kept most of her secrets in the dark, and switched things around about her past. (When she spoke of her Heroine side, she often refers to it as a 'night out' with 'friends'.) It wasn't easy. She could have handled it all on her own, but she kept seeing Machivella pop up in her vision, taunting her about giving into the crazy.

Nightwatcher would appear in her reflection and say, "You can't fight it forever, Selene."

She would even see many of her old enemies.

Phobia.

Questionair.

Anaconda.

Ares.

Doctor Solaris.

She would even see her old sidekicks The Sparrows whom had grown to make their own hero identities; Her daughters and son.

Dixie Blake - Silverwing.

Jennifer Holt - Talon.

Christina Okabe - Mockingbird.

Thomas Krane - Red Wolf.

It was painful even thinking about them. Her sidekicks were her daughters and son. She felt her heart clench and start to tear as the faces flashed across her memory. The doctor prescribed her some sleeping pills that would help her sleep at night, even though Selene didn't want to, and even suggested self hypnosis as a form of meditation. She hadn't meditated for a long time and to get back into the habit will be hard.

As she looked at herself in the mirror, only in her grey bra and panties. She could see the faint scars from her years of crime fighting. The only deep scars she had that she would ask Siobhan to cover with a layer of concealer when she goes out backless were the whipping scars on her back. She turned and moved her hair out of the way and looked at her back. They criss-crossed a total of five times. Five from the left side and five to the right. The other scars, burns or otherwise were very faint. She didn't have to worry about them unless someone would look at them very closely. She could remember the day she got them. The day when she was initiated into the League of Assassins lead by the great Ra's Al Ghul.

Turns out there was a Ra's Al Ghul here in this world as well. She almost laughed at the irony that her old master who once trained her to be the best had became her worst enemy.

Then she wondered to herself..."The Lazarus Pits." She thought wistfully.

If this Gotham was defiantly the same as her Gotham...It could work. She turned away from her mirror and went to her closet. She put on black tight fitting pants and boots that reached her knees. She then put on a black halter top and a new leather jacket. She was heading to Trinity Corps. She wanted to look into something. Iron barked and followed her down the hallway as she put her hair up in a high ponytail. She would have to plan extensively ahead. For now, the merger with Wayne Enterprises is currently undergoing a few things before everything is settled. Then she would have to make a fake business trip to Tibet if her hunches were not true. Wayne. She paused in her footsteps and groaned as a fire pulled in her belly.

"Damn you, Bruce Wayne." She thought as she gritted her teeth and steeled herself against such emotions.

She leaned against the wall and gathered her thoughts. He had tried many times to catch her alone to speak with her. She had been avoiding him since she got discharged from the hospital. But every time, somehow, he managed to catch her and she would have to come up with excuses close to the truth (Such as: Having a business appointment with a competitor, or she had scheduled a meeting with the Police, Hospital, orphanage, etc. to 'speak' of safety issues and such) and slip away from him. If she was to be totally honest with herself, she was attracted to Bruce Wayne. What woman wouldn't be attracted to him? The tall stature, the aristocratic looks, the blue eyes, the pack-STOP! She clenched her fists and growled. She HAD to stop thinking about him. She didn't want anything to do with him since that night at the club. They were both high on hormones and they ran with it. The kiss didn't mean anything and it was just a mistake. She was Selene Trinity, damn it! She doesn't need a man in her life!

She had Daniyel back in her old world, he was the son of Ra's Al Ghul but he backstabbed her, by pushing her off a railing that lead to the Lazarus Pits below. Magpie was a thief in Gotham that often toed the lie between hero and villain. Their relationship was on-again and off-again. There was Samuel Adams, Superman, but that relationship couldn't work out, but they still became good friends. She knew in her life as a superhero, she just can't have a man. Hero or otherwise. She heaved a sigh at her past as crept downstairs and went to the front door. Before she left the house, She went over to the wooden desk that held her keys and pushed a hidden button on it. Out popped a drawer of small daggers and a wakizashi, a japanese short sword. She hid the daggers on various, yet comfortable places on her body and hooked the short sword on her back and grabbed her keys.

She petted Iron and was about to leave until...

"Lady Trinity." She heard the voice of her maid.

"How does she freaking do that?" She said to herself.

Not very many people could sneak up on her in the dead silence of the night. Especially in her mansion. She turned around as saw her maid, clad in an ankle length nightgown and teal robe and fuzzy bunny slippers. Her red turning silver hair was let loose to her shoulders.

"Where do you think you are going?" Siobhan said as she crossed her arms.

"I'm just going to my company to check on a few things." She said as she twirled her keys on her hands. Siobhan sighed. "Very well, but come straight home after. Understand?" Siobhan's grey eyes stared coldly at her. Selene looked at Siobhan cooly.

"Yes, Siobhan. I'll be back soon." She said as she left the house.

Siobhan shook her head sadly. "I'll have to call a friend to send me more of that tea for her. She'll need it." She said to herself as Iron lay down on his belly waiting for his mistress to come home again.

"Who drives at night anyways? Its worse then traffic during the daytime." Selene thought to herself as she weaved in and out of traffic.

She managed to get into the parking lot for her company and stuffed her keys inside her pocket and took out a security card. It was a Master security card that could get her onto any floor of her building. Seeing that she was CEO and owner of Trinity Corps, she had full access to everything. While her employees had different security cards that only allows them to go to certain levels of the building, she could go anywhere. The Elevators had a scanner for the card to be inserted and the scanner would read what the employee is and take them to that specific floor where they work. Visitors on the other hand are given a temporary card that will be active for a certain amount of time and will allow them on certain floors until it's code is discarded from the system.

She went into her personal elevator and placed the card into it's respective slot and it took her up to her office. It took a total of three minutes to get there. The ding of the elevator sounded as the doors swished open and she strode though the dark hallways with a grace that would make models jealous. she didn't mind the dark and preferred it that way. As she was walking to her office, thoughts ran through her mind. It's a possibility. A very risky possibility. There was a way to stop the hallucinations, if they were hallucinations and nothing more, and it may work. The side effects? Addiction and possibly insanity.

She did the same thing back in her old world. Every grave injury that left her in critical condition from fighting her rouges, she would inject a serum that would speed up the healing process. It took a lot of will power to make sure she didn't become addicted to it and she would using only for emergencies.

The Lazarus Serum.

Along with a few other choice chemicals, the serum would heal the most life threatening injuries. It was a shot in the dark for her. She would only make a batch if the hallucinations get worse. For now, it was strictly research. She needed to figure out if there was a Lazarus Pit in Gotham. She could remember the tales that she father told her about Gotham when she was a child. Janis told her a little more in depth. Gotham, hundreds of years ago, was once a gateway to Hell. When the doors were shut forever, there were still weak spots in which 'evil' escaped. There was even a mention of a Wonder City that was once supposed to take place of Gotham, but, if Selene could remember correctly, the Lazarus Technology that was supposed to be the source of power to the city drove it's residents mad, along with the Gates of Hell cracking. Thus, Gotham built over it and Wonder City had been left forgotten.

She sighed. She had a lot of work to do. She opened the door to her office and noticed the moon shining forth through her windows. She didn't turn on the light. She walked toward the window and placed a hand on it. She saw the Gotham skyline, the moon shining ominously over the city... Her hands were twitching to just go up to the roof to feel the Gotham wind in her hair and feel the cool summer nights on her skin. She shook her head and saw down at her desk and booted up her computer. She needed to look at the maps of Gotham to see what she can find. As she booted up the computer, she noticed that something was off. Maybe she was being paranoid...or maybe her old habits of being observant to everything is paying off. She moved back a little bit and looked closely at her desk. Nothing seemed to be out of place.

She stood up and looked around the area for any disturbances. Nothing. She stood tall and closed her eyes and opened her mind. She could hear whispers, whispers of someones mind...someone had broken into her office! Out of habit, she snarled and opened her eyes. She reached behind her and grabbed the hilt of her short sword and moved towards the shadows where a whisper of a mind was projecting. She swung down and her sword hit something solid. She didn't smell any blood being spilt, meaning that the intruder was well protected. She shifted her body weight and shoved the intruder out of the shadows and into the moonlight, making a move and struck down again. The intruder blocked the attack which gave her an opening for her to kick him in the gut, pushing him to the far side of the wall and aiming the blade of the sword near his neck, pressing none to gently on the intruder.

"I will give you 5 seconds to tell me who you are and why you are here before I paint the walls with your blood." She snarled.

No one breaks into her building without her knowing. The moon shifted ever so slightly before she saw the masked face of Batman. She stopped growling and backed up, but not putting away her sword.

"The Bat. What are you doing here?" She sneered.

"What's with the weapon?" He asked coldly.

"Hey, you may never know who might try and take an advantage of a Socialite of Gotham. Now, either you answer my question, or I toss you out the window and you will foot the bill." She glared at the Dark Knight.

This was the first time she had seen him since her little run in with the Italian mob. He glared back, not saying anything. She frowned at the Dark Knight.

"Look, I'm already pissed of at the fact that you are here. How you managed to get into my office is no easy feat. Obviously you are here for something. Either you tell me, or I will attack you, and I won't go easy on you the second time." She glared at him.

"Robberies. Wayne Enterprises was broken into three days ago." He glared at her.

Robberies? She never heard anything-oh hell no.

"You think I robbed Wayne Enterprises? Or at least hired someone to do that?" She scoffed with disbelief.

The silence was deafening.

"You have got to be shitting me. Why the hell would I rob Wayne Enterprises when I have a multi-billion dollar merger that I'm working on with Bruce Wayne? I would rather not put my company into bankruptcy, thank you very much." She said as she put her short sword away.

She couldn't believe the nerve of the man.

"Damn it, Bruce, do I have to upgrade your security again?" She muttered to herself as she sat down on her desk and looked at her computer.

"You tried to hack into my computer." She deadpanned.

"What gave it away?" Batman said as he walked closer to her. She tapped the side of her computer and grabbed something and plucked it off of the back. A little red bat device was glowing.

"Don't hack into my systems, Bats, let your sidekick know as well. I'm surprised that the alarms didn't go off. Though, whatever information you are still looking for, call it off." She said as she brought up the old maps of gotham and searched.

"And why is that? Something to hide?" Batman spoke.

Selene chuckled.

"Oh no. More like something you are hiding. I'm actually a little surprised that you didn't activate my virus/hacker protection program. It would have invaded whatever computer system your sidekick is working from, destroyed everything, and brought me back information that you probably don't want me to know about. Including your secret identity." She said as she leaned back into her seat.

She noted that Batman's hands clenched into fists. She gave a wicked smile to him.

"Now...if you will excuse me, I want to do some late night work in peace thank you. And take the front door this time." She said as she brought up more old maps of Gotham city.

"Most business owners don't come at 1 in the morning." Batman stated. Selene shrugged.

"I'm not like most owners." She said as she went to a few websites telling of old Gotham city 50 years ago.

"You're right. Most business owners don't know how to wield a sword." Batman said. Selene smirked at the dry joke.

"It was my mother's dream after all, to know the many styles of fighting for defense." She thought. She then paused in her typing and narrowed her eyes. she looked to the side and noticed that Batman wasn't there anymore.

"Have I lost my touch? I didn't even notice he left." She thought as she leaned back in her chair leisurely.

Being a normal civilian was boring. She would usually do sudoku and crossword puzzles in her spare time (And even heading beneath her mansion to work on prototypes for Law Enforcement.) But other than that, she just felt like something is missing...something like... She felt a slight rumble shake her office.

"What the hell?" She shut off her computer and stood up.

There was more rumbling coming from... "The roof?" She thought.

She steeled herself and ran out of her office and took the exit to the roof. She slowly opened the door up and was on full alert. She slowly tip-toed her way around the roof, wakizashi in hand...but she didn't sense someones mind before it was too late.

"Nighty-night!"

She heard behind her. Just as she turned around, something solid hit her in the head. She felt her blade slip out of her hand and slide somewhere out of reach. She fell to the ground, her vision fuzzy and blurred. Just before she fell into unconsciousness, she looked up and saw the faces of the Joker and Harley Quinn.

Batman had slipped away from Trinity's office silently. He was now currently in the bat mobile heading back to the Cave. He was slightly frustrated about the fact that Trinity had high tech security systems and even a hacker virus program.

"Whoa! I just looked at this Hacker/Virus Program that Trinity has. It's called the Wolf Pack Virus. This is a hacker's wet dream." He could hear Oracle gush over the ear phone.

"It's capabilities is amazing. I'm glad I didn't activate it, or we'd be screwed." She said seriously.

"In other words..." Batman said cautiously.

"If I had activated it, it would have went to my hard drive, and then to the Bat-Computer and destroyed everything. And any information that would be valuable, would go straight to Trinity herself. Wow...I think I found a new idol." Oracle said.

Batman could picture her face beaming into a smile.

"Looks like Trinity isn't what she seems to be." Batman stated.

"You got that right. She's more than just a pretty face and a businesswoman. She even knew that you were in the room! And she attacked you!" Oracle said, her voice full of shock.

"It was surprising. Given her background, I would have suspected that she was trained in self-defense." Batman said as his eyes narrowed.

"Well, one thing is for sure, Trinity didn't steal anything from Wayne Industries. I looked at her schedule. It's chock full of appointments and meetings. Other than tonight's surprise visit. There's no way that she would have stolen anything, help or otherwise." Oracle said with typing in the background.

"So that rules her out. Other businesses have been stolen from as well...but who..." He was cut off as the BatWave sent of an alarm.

"Batman! Trinity Corps had an explosion!" Oracle said as she was frantically typing in the back ground.

Batman gritted his teeth, making a sharp U-turn and sped down the roads back to Trinity Corps.

"Anything else, Oracle?" Batman said as he passed many cars.

"I just hacked into a camera. Trinity is on top of the Building...Oh no! Joker and Quinn are there!" Oracle gasped.

"Joker? What does he want with Trinity?" He said coldly.

"I don't know, but if Joker is involved, it's not good." Oracle said calmly.

Batman could only glare out the window as he increased the speed to get to Trinity Corps. As he came into view the top of the Batmobile slid down as he aimed his arm to fire the Batclaw, leaving the vehicle on Autopilot. He grappled up to the roof of Trinity Corps and carefully examine the scene. He heard the tell-tale laughter of the Joker.

"You see, Trinity, when I heard about these guns, I thought to myself, "This would a shocker if I used these." And I want them. If you give them to me, I'll let you go scott free without any damage! So do we have a deal?" The Joker said bending over to a tied up Selene Trinity.

She had a darkening bruise on the side of her head, but Joker had a switchblade in her mouth. Her eyes were filled with anger and fear, but the fear was betraying her usually fierce façade. She shook her head only slightly. Joker sighed.

"Oh well, you look so serious, Trinity. Let's put a smile on your face." He laughed.

Batman took action.

"Game's up, Joker." He said glaring at Joker.

Joker looked back at him and smiled.

"Why the Bat is here! Goodie!" Joker said gleefully.

He roughly took out the switchblade out of Selene's mouth and pulled her up to her feet. "So sorry I didn't invite you, but you see, I was just making a business proposition for our lovely lady here." He said as he pushed her a little bit close to the edge.

"We had to persuade her a little, but I think its going well, don'cha think?" He said as he anchored her and pushed her little by little over the edge.

"Mistah J, she just need a little push, don't you think?" Harley smiled.

"Let her go!" Batman practically growled.

"Oh, Bats, you of all people should know, be careful with your words...someone might take it literally!" Joker laughed as he let Selene go and she went toppling over the edge.

Batman took off and jumped the edge of the building, plummeting down. He could feel gravity pushing against him. She was just below him. She wasn't screaming, but her eyes were frozen in fear and terror. He grabbed her around the waist and shot his batclaw at the nearest window and with the combined weight, they stopped in mid-air and felt the law of physics sending them flying into the 7th story windows. Batman held Selene close to his body so that he took the brunt of the damage. They rolled onto the floor and came to a stop. Batman was the first to get up and moved over to Selene. Her eyes were covered by her bangs as he took out a batarang and cut off the rope. She got up slowly, as if she was moving through molasses. She had some cuts on her body, most likely from crashing into the window.

"Trinity, are you..." He paused in his words.

She was shaking. Her hair was serving as a curtain to cover her face. He could hear the shaky breaths and muttering in Japanese.

Then, "Get..." She started to say.

She sat up slowly, raising her arms and hugged herself. She was still shaking.

"Get...that..." She gritted her teeth.

"Get. That. DAMN CLOWN..." She started to say.

"Before I decide to KILL him myself." She growled.

"Trinity, you need medical attention." He said as he came closer to her.

"STOP!" She shouted at him.

He didn't come closer.

"Leave me. And get the clown. Just. GO." She whispered as she barely peaked through the curtain of hair.

He glared at her, but did as she said. He chased after the Joker.

"Oracle. Call the Gotham PD and an ambulance. I'm heading after Joker." He said as he fired his grapple gun at the nearest building.

"For Selene? Bruce, is she okay?" Oracle asked worriedly.

"She'll be fine. I think." Bruce said as he noticed Joker's getaway car.

"Bruce...what happened?" Oracle asked.

"I'll tell you later." Batman said as he flew through the air and aimed straight for the Joker's car.

Selene was still shaking after the Batman left. She hated this feeling. The feeling of defenselessness. The past six-seven years has either made her rusty at her fighting and defense skills, or she let her guard down one to many times. She forced herself to stop shaking and she stood up, her legs threatening to collapse. Her breathing was panicky. Oh how she wished that she could stop the fear that ran through her veins like ice. She walked down to the lobby, taking the emergency stairs, making sure she gripped the railings with and iron grip. At least the Joker wasn't able to get into her building. Even with the card, there would be a scanner that would show up and it would take the hand print and a prick of blood to allow them in. IF they were allowed in. Someone leaked about her shock guns. Ugh. Not only will she be searching for the Lazarus Pits under Gotham, avoiding Bruce Wayne, and having a psychiatrist to prescribe medication, she also has to deal with the freaking Bat and the Clown. Could this night get any worse? Oh yes...it just got worse when she got into the lobby of her building.

Cops were already everywhere and paramedics came rushing at her. They led her outside to check up on her and asked many questions. All that she answered a little above a whisper. They put a shock blanket on her to keep a bit warm. The News Crews got there and everything went to the crapper. This was not her night. She didn't want to break down. Not here. Not now. Not in public. She still shook just a little, but she got most of it under control. She just...couldn't comprehend the fact that she fell off a building. Had she truly lost her touch? She could still feel that bone chilling and paralyzing fear when she woke up with the Joker in her face. She took on Machivella, who was just as twisted at he is. But Machivella wasn't Joker. She was a terrorist. She loved playing games and was unpredictable, she was the epitome of insanity and crazy. Joker...she never faced him before. She told herself that should she face him, he was on the lower tier of insanity. He couldn't be that bad. No. They were both on the same level. Machivella killed for fun. As did the Joker.

He had no problem sticking a switchblade in her mouth and cutting just a little bit. She refused to cry out. She was used to such tortures. It wasn't the first time she was beaten or cut. But falling off the edge of a building, tied up, and in her civvies. If she just had a little more time she would have had her knife and cut herself loose. But the Joker was unpredictable. And the Batman. She closed her eyes, feeling the Wolf inside her snarl and growl. But on another hand...he held her tightly close to him before they crashed through her windows. A strong chest, a deep voice, the arms that held her tightly... GOSH DAMN IT! She rubbed her forehead. When had she turned into a damn pussy? She needed to do something. She needed to revert back to her training. She can't let tonight ever happen again. She balled her fists, vowing to herself that if she was to ever do her late night escapades again, she needed to be more prepared than just a few knives and her short sword.

"Selene Trinity?" She heard someone call her name.

She looked to the side and saw Commissioner Gordon.

"Hey, Commish." She said failing miserably with a smile.

He got closer and sat by her.

"Why were you at your business this early?" He asked.

"I forgot to take care of some files for a merger. I heard something above my building and I thought to check it out." She winced as a paramedic politely intervened and asked her to open her mouth.

She could barely register the taste of blood in her mouth. She opened her mouth and the paramedic swapped something into the cuts that were in her mouth.

"There. The cuts are not so bad. You should feel a slight numbing in a few minutes." He said as he went to another paramedic to speak of her condition.

"You were lucky the Batman was there to save you. There were eyewitnesses that saw what was going on up there. The Joker could have easily killed you, Miss Trinity. What did he want?" He asked.

She ran her hands through her hair and heaved a great sigh.

"He knew about the shock guns." She said solemnly.

Gordon looked at her with wide eyes. "How could he have known? You never announced it! The guns should be ready by the end of the month, right?" He asked.

"Yes. I know. I have to relocate them to the Research and Development Building near the edge of Gotham. Most of the prototypes are almost to completion. Just a few more things to work on and they will be ready." She said rubbing her forehead.

Gordon sighed. "You just go home and rest. We caught the Joker and Harley Quinn thanks to Batman." She winced as Gordon said his name.

"Yeah. Batman saves the day." She said halfheartedly.

"Commissioner Gordon." A police officer said as he walked up to her.

"What is it?" He asked.

Selene looked up at the young officer.

"Trinity's ride is here." He said.

"Ride? I haven't even called Siobhan yet, Who could possibly...?" She lost her train of thought before she saw Bruce Wayne coming up to her.

One thought came to her mind.

"Son of a bitch."

Selene crossed her arms and huffed. How the hell did Bruce find out that she fell off of her building? Oh Wait, JOKER made her fall off the building. She shuddered a bit when she recalled that he had that switchblade in her mouth. She was lucky he didn't slice her open. She had to stop her shaking. She has dealt with worse…hasn't she?

"You were lucky that the Batman was there, Selene. What were you thinking?" Bruce scolded.

Again…why was she in his car again? Oh that's right. The news crew had so much fun about the 'Trinity Heiress' vs the Joker. Well, she was pushed off the building after all. Where the hell did they come up with 'Heiress' anyways?

"Bruce, I'm fine. Nothing severe happened to me save for glass lacerations. I'm fine!" She steeled herself.

She needed to get her blade back anyways. She think it slid right underneath the air conditioning vent. She didn't even register what Bruce had said.

"-you had me worried Selene, you have been avoiding me since that night in the club." He said. She snapped her head to the handsome man who was driving.

"Worried? Bruce, I can handle myself. I'm not weak." She crossed her arms, growling a little.

"That's not the point. The Joker could have killed you!" Bruce clamored.

"Oh my gosh, Bruce, I'm right here. I'm not dead. All I've suffered from the guy is a few punches and getting pushed off my building. I think things could have been worse." Selene said as she shook her head.

"You could have died." Bruce said coldly.

Selene had enough.

"You know what. I've had enough. Pull over." She ordered.

"No." Bruce said stubbornly.

"No!?…Let me out. Now!" She said raising her voice.

"No. I'm taking you home." Bruce said finally.

"What are you trying to pull, Wayne? Don't make me grab the wheel." She said deadly serious.

Bruce sighed before pulling over. Selene had a smug smile as she reached for the handle so she could get out. Only to find out that she was locked in.

"What the hell, Bruce? Let me out!" She shouted at him.

"Selene…"

"No! Look, I do not want to deal with this! Not right now." She said her voice suddenly wavering, her body started to shake again.

The feeling of falling, without anything to help her stop… The doors finally unlocked.

"I'm getting real tired of your shit, Wayne. Talk to me when you figured out what you did wrong." She said finally and got out of the car.

She hailed the nearest taxi and got into the cab.

"Trinity Mansion, Please. And get there fast." She said to the cab driver.

She leaned back against the dirt old seats and closed her eyes tightly. That fear. She wanted to get rid of it. The only way to get rid of it…was to face it.

She avoided Bruce Wayne in many ways: Screening his Phone Calls, him coming over uninvited; Siobhan would turn him away, meetings with him were short and to the point. When he followed, she disappeared in the crowd. The feelings she had for him were driving her nuts. She needed to get her mind off of him. She was at the Research and Development Building. Cave Johnson was putting the final touches on the Shock guns. But he was also working on a project. Not the Portal device that he came up with, he was still trying to figure out how to make a mini black hole. He was working on making boots.

"So Cave, if I fall from a high place, with those boots on, I will be able to land on my feet without any problems at all?" Selene asked as she sat in her swivel chair.

"Yes, Miss Trinity. You see, the special brace on the back of the boots is tempered to withstand a high velocity. If you were to jump off a hundred meter building Maybe even more, you would land pretty hard on the ground, due to gravity, possibly making a small crater beneath you, but you would be intact and alive. No injuries whatsoever. At least that's the theory." Caroline said as she place a cup of tea in front of her.

"Thank you Caroline." Selene said as she blew a little on the liquid.

"The entire boot itself is made with special synthetics and some experimental metals, but hey, we have the money to make these babies. Unfortunately... this pair is the only pair in existence. These were expensive as hell." Cave said and he finished putting a coating of black on the strange boot apparatus.

Selene had to admit. It was impressive. It took quite a bit of money to get the materials for the boots that Cave had asked for. Since her night's were spent in the Wolf's Den under her mansion, exercising and getting her body back into shape and testing her reflexes, she still needed a map to go down under Gotham City. But she needed to be prepared. She pitched the idea about making an apparatus to help her land safely onto the ground. Cave was a mad genius that was for sure.

"So...Trinity...parkour? You need these boots for something like that?" Cave asked.

Selene nodded. "Well, I need to test it a little bit. I parkour quite a bit, so I wonder if those boots would help me with that particular hobby." She smiled.

Given the fact that back on her old world, her means of transportation was her Howler, similar in structure to the Batmobile, the Wolf Cycle, and using her grapple to get to high places and using her abilities of parkour to propel her forward. She remembered scaling a high building with her clawed gloves at high speed. She was fairly small and she used it to her advantage.

"Huh, never pictured a rich girl like you to do stuff like that. Now, we just need to test them." Cave said as he sat down and took a swing of his black coffee.

"Well...I'll test them out." Selene said smiling.

Cave spat out his coffee and Caroline nearly dropped her cup of creamed coffee herself.

"Miss Trinity! For the sake of your life, this is only experimental! What if they don't work and you-"

"You fall and kill yourself. Then everything goes to pot!" Cave said as he glared at Selene.

"Cave. I have utter and complete faith in your creations." Selene smiled at the man.

Cave only frowned and muttered.

"Miss Trinity, how are you going to test them?" Caroline asked.

"Well, I'll start at my house. And if I survive the fall with out any injuries, I'm aiming higher." Selene said as she sipped her tea.

"Look, if you die...can you leave your wealth and fortune to me?" Cave said smiling jokingly.

"Are you crazy? Knowing you Cave, you would probably turn my company into something that deals with tests and science. I do not want the world to know about the madness of Cave Johnson." Selene quipped.

Cave just muttered something about mean bosses and Caroline just laughed. Selene looked at the unique boots. She had a good feeling about them. She could feel it in her bones.

Bruce Wayne had been calling Selene for hours. She never picked up and she never called back. He could feel a headache coming on as he sat on a kitchen stool, while Alfred was making dinner. It bothered him a lot. Since, as the Batman, had saved her from the fall, it was as if she cut all ties with him and wants nothing to do with him. If this keeps up, the merger will not happen and money will be going down the drain. He put his cell phone down and rubbed his forehead.

"Can't get a hold of Miss Trinity, Master Wayne?" Alfred asked as he placed something in the oven.

"She's been avoiding me for the past three weeks, Alfred. First the Club, then Joker at her company, and now she has been avoiding me." He sighed.

As the Batman he really didn't care if she stayed away from him. It was dangerous for both him and her if they tried anything. But as Bruce Wayne, her cold front had been put up higher. He was back to square one when he had first met her at that coffee shop.

"Perhaps if I may make a suggestion, Master Wayne, don't call her. I understand that you want some sort of answers, but Selene Trinity is a woman of Pride and Stubbornness. In a way, she is similar to you." Alfred said as he started to work on a salad.

Bruce rubbed his forehead.

"I just don't understand. What happened at the club..."

Her body. Her hair. Her skin. Her eyes.

"Ah yes, from what Barbara told me, Selene Trinity was the woman to be that night. She was wearing a corset, Master Bruce, and even a blind man would know that she is quite the beauty." Alfred pointed out.

"And add the fact that she is single, only makes her the more tantalizing. Isn't that right?" Alfred said point blank.

"That's not funny, Alfred." Bruce said at his father figure.

"Master Bruce, it doesn't take a genius or the Batman to see that you clearly have feelings for her, and vice versa." Alfred said as he began to add apples to the green spinach salad.

"You know I can't do that, Alfred." Bruce said as he ran his hand through his hair, making it a bit messy.

"Selene is a respectable woman, she knows how to handle herself in tough situations. Not to mention she knows how to handle a sword." Bruce muttered the last part.

"Although I won't disagree with you sir, but perhaps Miss Trinity, given her past, has been a very independent woman for many years. Perhaps, her independence is being threatened by you and the Batman, sir." Alfred said before heading into the pantry to fetch a few more ingredients for the dinner.

Bruce steepled his hands together and thought for a moment.

"Threatened?" He thought.

How was it that he was threatening her? He thought back as Batman when he had met her in the alleyway. She was clearly injured, but she kept her head high, not saying anything about the wounds she had. When he hid in the shadows in her office, he had heard the door starting to open, she came in with a confident stride. He was hoping that under the cover of the shadows, she wouldn't notice him. Apparently, he was wrong. She somehow knew that he was hidden. When she had moved in front of her desk, he had noted that she closed her eyes and exhaled silently. Then she sprung at him. He was taken back by surprise as she attacked him. Her sword was sharpened and he was lucky to have armor on his arms that night.

Then there was her on the roof top. He saw the fear in her eyes, but she never wavered. Even as they fell through the air, she never screamed. But the terror was still there. When he left the Joker and Harley Quinn and sent them back to the cops, he quickly went back to the cave to change back into Bruce Wayne, driving back to pick her up. The look on her face when he went up to her was a mixture of disbelief and anger. While they were driving down the street, he had also noted that she was still shaking. The encounter with Joker must've affected her more than he thought.

At that moment, he made a decision. He'll wait for a while for her to call back. He stood up and headed toward the Grandfather clock in the living room, and pulled on the pendulum, opening up the entrance to the Batcave.

"Sir, I will have dinner ready in 2 hours." Alfred called out.

"It'll have to wait, Alfred." Bruce replied as he disappeared behind the Grandfather clock. He needed to take a short break. He placed on his suit and cowl.

He went patrolling around Gotham, still with Selene on his mind.

Selene smiled brightly to herself. The long fall boots she had on, worked. She went to an isolated warehouse and climbed up to the highest beam that she could get to. She placed a finger into her ear, where a bluetooth was connected.

"Cave! You mad genius you! It worked! The long fall boots worked!" She said smiling.

"You little terror you! At least you didn't go splat!" Cave replied.

Selene chuckled as she moved around a bit in the empty warehouse. When she had first put them on, it took her about 15 minutes to get used to them. They had felt like high heels to her, without the pain of her spine going out of alignment. Cave constructed them to be comfortable and functional. She walked out of the warehouse and looked up at the skies. It was going to rain. She didn't give a damn. She was going to parkour, wanting to get her strength and stamina up again. She felt the first drop, then then next. She had parked her car on the other side of the warehouse district. She was going to run back to that destination. On the roofs. She placed a finger on her bluetooth.

"Cave, take the next couple days off, you earned it." Selene said smiling.

"Don't fall and die, Trinity." Cave said before she heard the beep of the disconnected phone call.

It was starting to rain faster now. She wasn't so lucky tonight. She was wearing black sweat pants and a long sleeved spandex shirt that still kept her insulated, but she knew that the weather was going to get worse soon. She looked around and spied a metal ladder not too far from her. She quickly braided her hair before she grabbed onto the metal ladder. Her clawed gloves gave her a bit of traction and hauled herself up, climbing up to the roof. When she got to her destination, she saw many rooftops just waiting for her to run across. She rubbed her left foot on the ground a couple of times. She took off running.

Using the momentum of her body, she propelled herself off of the roof and landing onto the next in quick succession. She could feel the adrenaline rushing through her body as she jumped up to grab a pole and swung upward. She felt the momentum pulling at her body. Letting go and free falling off the top of the roof, she let out an elated sigh as she somersaulted in the air and landed on her feet. Using the force of her landing to took off running again. She ran towards a brick wall and ran up it, then she dug her gloved claws into the mortar and climbed up. She could feel her muscles screaming, but she didn't care. The pain felt good, she needed the pain. She lifted herself of of the wall and tumbled over the roof. She kept on running across the rooftops. Jumping, spinning, flying... it was exhilarating.

She stopped at the warehouse where her car was parked. She felt disappointed that her fun has run out. But she knew that Siobhan would have a cow if she didn't get home at a decent time. She could see it now. Siobhan with towels at the ready and drying her off. Ever the mother hen.

"Just like Janis."

She thought back to her old maid who had always been by her side since the day she was born. She never saw Janis as a maid, but as a grandmother figure that would always be by her side. When Selene graduated from collage, she felt lonely as she was expanding her business. So she had started to look for a maid for hire. It didn't too long until Siobhan came along. Siobhan was like Janis in many ways. But she trusted her with her life. That was good enough for Selene.

Selene walked back to her car, soaked to the bone. She relished in the chill that overcame her. She took off her long fall boots by pressing a button on the side that would release her legs. She would just have to drive home bare foot. She put the boots on the passenger side then started her car. She needed to get home anyways. If she didn't take a warm shower, she might catch a cold. Then she would never hear the end of it from Siobhan. At any rate, Selene needed preparations for the search for the Lazarus Pit in Gotham. It will take some time. Perhaps 6 months before she has the proper equipment for searching underneath Gotham, by then it would be winter time. Perfect. The boots were just the beginning. The only obstacle that she might come across is The League of Shadows. That would throw a big wrench in her plans. As she was thinking deeply about her future endeavors, her mind suddenly transferred to Bruce. She couldn't ignore him forever.

Granted, she was already over the heated kiss from a few weeks back, which left her somewhat empty. She had felt these feelings before. She didn't like it. In other words, she just can't stay away from Bruce for too long. She raised her thumb to her mouth again and bit on it. Okay, she admits it. Bruce Wayne has her hooked. Even though the unspoken agreement was to just be 'friends' it's quite obvious that they wanted to be more than friends. She sighed as she got onto the highways. Something caught her attention from the corner of her eye and she looked up into the skies. It was the Batman's signal. She huffed to herself. There was a time when her symbol of a wolf face was in the sky. She shook her head furiously. This jealousy was getting her nowhere. She needed to focus on the situations between her and Bruce. She could visit him. Yes. That could work, but what would she say to him? She groaned to herself as she though of apologizing to him about her cold demeanor. She had her pride damn it, but even her pride can take a few blows. She pulled up to her mansion and got out of her car, grabbing her boots, and shut the door. The rain came down like cats and dogs but she didn't mind it. She went to the front door and opened it up, only to be greeted by Iron. He barked his hellos as she rubbed his head. Shutting the front door, she placed the long fall boots by the shoe rack that was for whenever guests come along.

"Miss Trinity! You are soaked!" She heard Siobhan rush at her with white fluffy towels.

Selene was assaulted by Siobhan, the towels were nice and warm and Siobhan was making a mess out of Selene's long hair.

"Siobhan, I'm fine. I'm just going to have a quick warm shower. Then I'm going to bed." Selene said to the fussy woman.

"You are BAREFOOT! What on God's green earth are you thinking!?" Siobhan frowned at the young woman.

"Siobhan...I'm fine." Selene said sternly.

Siobhan could only sigh at her mistress's attitude. She could have easily catch her death of cold.

"Lady Trinity..." Siobhan frowned.

Selene only gave Siobhan a wide smile.

"Really Siobhan, I'm fine. Now if you excuse me, I'm going to take a hot bath." Selene said as she escaped the older woman's clutches and ran upstairs.

She quickly took off all her clothes with a speed that even surprised her and turned up the faucet for the hot water as soon as she rushed into her bathroom. As the bathtub became full enough for her and added a mint bath oil to the water. She sighed with relief as the hot water along with the coolness of the mint encases her. She leaned her head back and closed her eyes, letting her mind go into a blank meditative state. At least, until suddenly the thought of Bruce Wayne popped up. She sighed as she frowned at herself for her childishness. She sat in the tub thinking of ways to apologize and possibly make up to Bruce. She never even noticed that the water in her tub had cooled down significantly. She cleaned herself off and got out and prepared herself for bed. Iron rushed into her room and jumped onto her bed. He barked at her as he turned around in circles getting ready for bed. Selene smiled at her wolf-dog as she dried her hair with a towel.

She was scared. She was scared of the rejection if she ever even thinks about steadily dating Bruce. It wasn't the notion of dating that scared her, it to have that commitment to stay with the person if they were compatible. She chuckled to herself. The tabloids and the papers would have a fit. The Two Billionaires of Gotham Dating. But again, actually DATING Bruce was daunting. But first...she had to apologize to him. For avoiding him and chewing him out of things that really wasn't his fault. An idea came to mind. She brought up her thumb and bit on it. Her heart pounded as the possible scenario went through her mind. She groaned and ran her hands through her slightly wet hair.

"What do you think, Iron? Should I visit Bruce tomorrow?" She asked as she put on a white night gown and slipped under the covers of her thick comforter.

Iron crawled up to her pillows and rubbed his head into her stomach area and cuddled up to here.

"I'll take that as a yes, then?" She asked out loud.

The silence was her answers.

"Damn you, Bruce Wayne." She muttered as she fell into the world of Dreams, the thunder outside making a lullaby for her tired mind.

Three days. It had been three days since the incident with Kronos had happened. Bruce rubbed his eyes as he was coming home from work in the afternoon. Only he and John Stewart had memories from the little adventure. Time Travel wasn't gentle with him. He was surprised that he was even still alive fifty years from now. It was strange to him. As Batman, it was just another day protecting the world from madmen. But as Bruce Wayne, he felt like to took a blow. He could remember the last conversation with the Future Justice League, or what's left of it, before jumping into the wormhole to stop Kronos.

"Trinity was one of the biggest backers of the Justice League."

"Trinity was a powerful Ally. Trust me when I say that there wasn't a problem that Trinity couldn't resolve."

"Trinity was a strict woman, but her loyalty to the League helped us more that we realized. Especially since that one time."

"You would be surprised what Trinity is capable of. She knows how the hero business works. If there was one thing that we didn't regret, was involving her into the Justice League."

Then the sentence that his older self had spoken made him think. It was curious to him, seeing his older self and the future League. Then there was that woman. She looked just like Selene. Haven was her name.

"Selene was a strict woman. With a smile like a predator, she'd eat you up like a frightened rabbit." Static had said.

"Even as an older woman, she still scares me from time to time. Dead as she is, well I can still feel her chilling smile."

Bruce was confused at the words Static had chosen. Haven, Black Wolf, had spoken up.

"She was the backbone of the Justice League. But, yeah, she was pretty dangerous." Haven mused and she seemed to have a small smile on her face.

It wasn't until before the Justice League fought with Kronos that the older version of him pulled him aside and spoke with him.

"You let Trinity into the Justice League?" He asked.

"Trust me, when the time comes, you'll understand WHY you let her." His older self glared at him, then he sighed as walked over to a ruined desk.

He had let his curiosity take control and walked over to his older self. He noticed a picture frame. After coming closer he noticed that the picture frame was him and...Selene? It was him as Bruce Wayne and Selene standing next to each other. They were wearing formal clothing. It looked like a black tux affair. He was wearing his black tux with what seemed like a red tie, and she was wearing a blue silk dress that was tight on her lean torso, but it flowed out like water from her hips. Her hair was up in a stylized bun with what looked like white syringa flowers in her hair. He had his arm around her and she was leaning into him with a wide smile that reached her eyes. The photo was faded but he could clearly see that there was something the the photo that caught his attention. His mother's pearl necklace. One of his treasured possessions from his mother. Why was she wearing them? His older self was staring at it then he looked at him.

"Do me a favor and don't be stupid. You and I both know what we are thinking." He had said.

He could only look at the picture and make a connection of what to do.

"Don't screw things up." was all that his older self could say.

He could remember the look on Haven's face when her mask was hit off from a gun and she fell saving him. Her green slit eyes glaring at him as she told him and Green Lantern to run after Kronos.

"GO DAMN IT! I'll hold them off!" She had shouted as she stood back up holding her injured shoulder.

As he and the Green Lantern ran off to take after Kronos, he heard a gunshot. Even though the time stream was now fixed, the sound of the gunshot rang in his memory. And brought him back to when he was young and his parents died. The Time stream was fixed, which meant that Haven, The Black Wolf, was alive and well, along with the future Justice League. Then the picture of Him and Selene on that rusted table flashed through his mind. He paused in his steps and sighed.

"Don't screw things up." He sighed as kept walking. He wondered if Selene was free this Saturday.

"Ah, Master Bruce. You've come home early." Alfred said as he was stirring a pot of something delicious.

"I got a little tired today." Bruce said as he stifled a yawn.

He has been losing sleep (when has he ever?) since the Kronos Incident.

"Well, I hope that you are not too tired. You have a visitor." Alfred said as he added steamed carrots to what looked like a vegetable soup.

"A visitor?" Bruce asked. He wasn't expecting anyone today.

"Well, sir, I noticed in the cabinet, the security camera for the front door, she was standing out side wondering whether or not to knock and come in or take off running." Alfred said as he gestured to Bruce to follow him.

"Who is it?" He asked.

Alfred opened a door to the out side and motioned his head to the Wayne Graveyard. Bruce looked a head and his eyes widened in surprise. It was Selene. She was in front of his parents tombstones and was looked like she was speaking to them. In her hand was a large mug. Alfred must've offered her a drink.

"I believe in her mind and upcoming, speaking to the dead is a Japanese tradition. She has been out there for two hours." Alfred said smiling slightly.

Bruce was taken aback. Two Hours? He stepped out side and walked towards her. He noticed that she was wearing casual clothing. Skinny jeans with red ballet flats and a red three quarter inch sleeved shirt with white lines decorating the shirt. She kept biting her lip and rubbing her index finger along the rim of her mug as she spoke. As he got closer, he could hear her words.

"-I mean, two billionares, both are business people, and they happened to hit it off quite well. The only problem is my damned Trinity pride." She scrunched up her nose. It made her look cute.

"My father always said that my Pride would be my downfall in the future. Didn't realize that it would be this severe." She said as she took a small sip from her mug.

"Then again...I guess I was pretty harsh on Bruce. I guess that's what you get from falling for your best friend." She sighed.

Bruce huffed with smile on his face. This he wasn't expecting from the mouth of Selene Trinity. Best Friend? He could defiantly see that for the past 8 months of being with Selene Trinity was a lot more than that.

"So you admit that." He said smiling.

She stiffened and slowly turned her head at him. Her blue-green eyes wide with shock, surprise and a little bit of fear. Her face reddened.

"How...how much did you hear?" She said as she paled, the red draining from her face.

"You mean your pride or the fact of you falling for me?" He chuckled.

She clenched her jaw and blushed looking down at the ground.

"Damn my pride and everything else." She muttered.

She snapped her head back up and spoke.

"Look, I wanted to apologize." She said as she rubbed the lid of her mug again in nervousness.

"Oh?" He asked as he stood by her looking down...

"Damn you, Bruce Wayne." She said as she crossed her legs.

"I'm...sorry for avoiding you. Since what happened at the Pulse, and getting mad at you for picking me up after the Joker incident, and after..." She started to ramble.

"You know what, screw it." She said as she stood up and started to walk away.

But Bruce grabbed her arm and pulled her to his chest, she maneuvering the mug so that it didn't splash against him. She gave a slight squeak of surprise. Bruce gave a sigh of relief. She wasn't mad at him, she was just dealing with a whole bunch of problems that just were out of her hands. Though, what happened at the Pulse though. He could see why she was mad. Very rarely will he give into someone. Kissing Selene surprised him just as much as she was.

"Selene..." He started to speak.

She looked up at him and she must've unconsciously bit her lip. The words of Alfred came back to him.

"Perhaps her independence is being threatened by you."

"Selene, Are you afraid of me?" He asked.

Her eyes widened at the notion.

"Uh...do you want me to lie or do you want the truth?" She said apprehensively.

She looked so...vulnerable in this state. He didn't see the strong woman who ran her business with an iron fist and a strict face. He saw the woman who was just trying to salvage a relationship even if it went in flames. The question is...where do they stand in this so called 'relationship"? She took a deep breath.

"Bruce, The only thing that terrifies me is not being able to push aside my anger and pride for something so small." She said carefully.

She backed up just a little.

"I..." She flushed and turned her back on him.

"I like you. Like..really like you." She said as she shifted from foot to foot.

Bruce smirked. But inside he was relived. He though that Selene would just walk off and they would just be business associates from here on out. But this was surprising. She turned around with a blush across her features.

"Look I won't blame you if you don't want to, you know...damn I'm acting like a high school girl." She muttered as she rubbed her hand across her cheeks as if the blushing would stop if she did so.

So Bruce walked up to her and gently grabbed her hand and used his other hand to tilt her head up, making her stop talking.

"Selene...are you suggesting that we date?" He said smoothly.

Selene gritted her teeth and frowned.

"If you don't want to then I've wasted my time." She said as she tried getting out of his grip, but he only tightened it marginally.

He chuckled, which made her stop her light struggle.

"If you are asking for my forgiveness for being forward at the club and getting mad at me trying to get you home and asking me out. You have all of that." He said as he smirked.

Selene stiffened as he decided to bend down and place his lips onto hers...she had cherry lip balm on them. After doing so, she opened her eyes and gave a small smile.

"Well...where do we stand now?" She said as she tilted her head.

Bruce was about to say something when thunder was heard above. Both Billionaires only had seconds to look above before rain poured onto them. Selene gave a squeal of delight and he laughed.

"Come on! Let's get inside before it get worse!" He shouted at her.

"What!? Are you kidding? You never kissed in the rain before?" She shouted at him.

He could only give her an incredulous look. The rain made her hair curl around her. He gave into her suggestion. As the thunder and rain went on, they kissed. After they had separated they hear Alfred shouting at them to get inside. Selene could only grin at him before turning and taking off running. He followed after. After they went into the mansion, Alfred was right there with big fluffy towels.

"Shall I start up the fire place sir?" Alfred smirked secretly.

The rest of the night Selene and Bruce were in the living room by the fireplace with steaming mugs of hot chocolate with blankets over them. She was leaning against him, already finished off her hot chocolate and laying her head on his chest. She was enjoying the silence as he was. The fireplace flame crackling and popping. Both silently agreed that they would go out and silently agreed that they would make this relationship work. Of course, both of them have secret lives that they wouldn't tell the other. But it won't be long until secrets come out into the open. But until then, they were both blissfully ignorant of each other's secret lives, at least for now.
