I'm baaack! Sorry I've been kinda quiet for the past couple of days, but I'm on vacation at the beach so hooray for winter break! Well, almost actually, my break doesn't start until Saturday but I did a bunch of school work so I could miss today and yesterday. But nevertheless, as of right now I am more than halfway there with this story, and I can't wait to wrap it up on my birthday so Broken Promises can be released. This chapter is really sweet, it'll involve a lot of Zelink so be prepared to have your socks knocked off! (Metaphorically of course, keep your socks on because sparklepencil will not be responsible for any frostbite of the toes.)
Well anyway, as I always say, enjoy!
Link's POV
That hooligan!
Ever since the very first day that Link ever met Marth, he suspected that Marth was a player. Before Marth stole Zelda away from him, he had managed to steal Peach, Samus, and even Nana away from their that was for only a short period of time, after he dated them for a while, he got bored and moved on to the next girl.
And all 3 times before, they had fallen for his charm.
At first, Link believed that Zelda was different. That she wouldn't fall in love with Marth, and she would just continue to keep him in the friend zone. But Link was wrong, and sure enough, Zelda soon fell for Marth.
Now before, the 3 girls that Marth once dated never dared to speak out against him and warn Zelda. They believed that she would be the first to turn him down as well, but they were wrong too.
Link blamed himself for this, he knew that if he didn't have that argument with Zelda, then they wouldn't be in this situation at the moment. They would probably be together, living happily in peace with no Marth in the picture.
But as he sat on Zelda's bed and held her close against himself, none of that really mattered now. Now, even if it was only just for a moment, Zelda was in his arms for the time being, sobbing away at all the pain she felt on the inside. And all he wanted to do was hold her close and make her feel like she was the thing in the universe that mattered.
Link didn't care that his tunic was getting wet, nor did he care that there was probably a bit of snot on it too. All that mattered to him was that his princess had someone there to comfort her and listen to what she wanted to say.
Finally, the sobs died down, and Zelda pulled back from his hug to grab a tissue and wipe her nose with. After she cleared her nose, she turned back to her hero and slightly smiled. "It felt good to get that out." Zelda said, staring at Link's worried face. "Don't worry about me Link, I'm fine. I'm just having a bad day. And honestly, I could care less about Marth right now. I know he's a player, I knew it from day one. I just can't believe that I fell for his charm like all the others did. And now I've made a huge mistake, and I'm pretty sure it's too late to fix it now." Zelda admitted as she bit her lip and avoided eye contact with Link.
"It's a mistake greater than all mistakes, a mistake that I regret the most out of every mistake I've made. And now that I've made that mistake, even though that person has been tortured to no end, they still have stuck by my side no matter what, and I don't understand why they would. Honestly, I don't deserve their sympathy, and I don't understand how they could be so forgiving after all that I put them through." Zelda finally cracked with tears threatening to fall from her face.
It took Link a minute to figure out what Zelda was talking about, but once it clicked in his mind, he looked at her with a shocked expression on his face. "Oh Zelda, it's not your fault that Marth played you like a violin. I mean, you didn't know of his horrible ways. Besides, I don't think I could ever be mad at you, you've been my best friend since day one, and we both made a promise that no matter what happened, nothing would stand in the way of our friendship." Link insisted.
"But I tortured you, Link! I dared to go and fall in love with Marth, and with that, I became a complete monster towards you. I acted unkind and unfair, and I hurt you both physically and mentally. I'm sorry that I ignored you, and I'm sorry that I never let us spend time together like best friends should. I'm a terrible best friend that doesn't deserve-
"Now wait just a minute, don't you dare finish that sentence." Link interrupted with an icy tone. "You are an amazing best friend with a heart full of gold, never let anyone tell you any differently. Yes I was heartbroken that you spent so much time with Marth that you forgot about me, but that didn't change the fact that you stood up for me when everyone else teased me about the purple tunic I was wearing the other day, it takes true courage to be able to do something like that. And let's not forget about the time that you nursed me back to health after my little tussle with Marth. Zelda, I will always be grateful for what you have done for me, my princess. If you're ever in need of anything, I will always be there for you." Link smirked at he bowed down and planted a light kiss on her hand.
Zelda slightly blushed when his lips came in contact with her skin. She felt a little tingle when he kissed her hand and smiled. "Oh Link, would you stop teasing me?" she whispered to herself, not expecting him to hear her.
"Oh, am I teasing you, princess? Why, whatever do you mean by that, my good lady?" Link smirked, stepping closer to Zelda with an eyebrow slightly raised.
Zelda noticed that he was closing the distance between them, so she took a step back and nervously bit her lip. Link's smirk only grew larger as he continued to step towards her, and she continued to step back. To her horror, Zelda suddenly noticed two things. One, she could feel a wall behind her, meaning she was trapped, and two, Link was standing way too close for her comfort. "Erm, could you give me some breathing space, Link? You're kind of invading my personal space."
"That's the point, princess. If I'm going to get any sort of confession from you, I'm going to have to do it with patience and a lot of skill.P lus, I have to make you nervous so you're more likely to confess."
"Link, I have no idea what you're talking about." Zelda said, giving him a confused look. "Why are you acting so strange? You're usually not this impatient around me. And what confession? What are you talking about? If you want an answer from me, just ask me a question. It's as simple as that." she shrugged.
"Really?" Link questioned, stepping even closer to the girl. He leaned in close until their noses almost touched, forcing Zelda to look straight into his eyes. "Then answer me this princess, do you love me?" he asked in a lower and softer voice, causing Zelda to blush.
Zelda tried to look away, but Link's stare was too intimidating to look away from. She bit her lip and took an awful long time thinking about what she was going to say next. "I value you..." she finally spoke slowly, staring at him to see what his reaction would be.
"I see then." Link snapped back, and in a quick instance, he had backed far away from Zelda, who feared that she had given him the wrong answer. "Well, if you're so happy here by yourself, then by all means, who's to stop you? Certainly not me, I hope you enjoy the rest of your stay at the Smash Mansion, but I'm going back to Hyrule to see Ilia and Malon again. They've sent me letters telling me that they missed me, and I've already asked Master Hand if I could go, which of course he accepted. So I'm going back permanently, and I won't be back here until next year. Goodbye, Zelda." Link abruptly said as he left her dorm room.
Zelda stood in a daze, wondering what in the world had just happened. When her mind finally caught up to herself, she ealized that Link was probably halfway down the hallway right now, heading to their homeland. A part of her was slightly angry that he was going back to see Malon and Ilia again, and the other part of her was sad that he was going to leave her behind. So without thinking, Zelda charged down the hallway and tackled Link. They both fell, with Zelda landing on top of him, and when he realized what had happened, she could see a slight hint of blush forming on his handsome face.
"Link, I want to know the reason why you keep asking me if I love you. Surely you should know by now that I love you as a best friend and a great hero. You've done so much for our country, and I appreciate all that you do for me as well. You're an awesome friend!" Zelda smiled at him.
Link's face dropped from a smile to a frown in mere seconds. Surely Zelda knew by now that he loved her unconditionally, and that he wanted to be more than friends? After all they had gone through, she still wasn't aware of his feelings for her? "Gosh Zelda, you can be so naive sometimes." Link whispered to himself, avoiding eye contact with her.
"What do you mean, naive?" Zelda asked curiously. "Oh... you weren't supposed to hear that, but I guess since you did, I'll have to answer you." Link sighed. "Zelda, we've known each other for forever, and I've always l-
"LINK!" an angry voice suddenly interrupted their little "moment", shocking both the hero and his princess, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" the angry voice demanded.
Zelda got off of Link and helped him up, and as they both turned to see who the voice belonged to, they both groaned out loud. "What do you want, Marth?" Zelda asked.
Marth pushed straight past Zelda and approached Link with a huge glare on his face. "I challenge you to a battle, at high noon tomorrow!" he damanded, corssing his arms in the process.
"Very well sir, I accept your challenge. I'll see you then." Link smirked as he watched Marth storm down the hall angrily.
"What was that all about?" Zelda asked as she turned to Link in confusion. "Oh, don't worry about it princess, I've just got an important job to take care of." he smiled.
"Link, don't do it, you'll get hurt! Remember last time? I can't let that happen to you again." Zelda pleaded with her eyes.
"Zel, I'll be fine." Link protested. "Last time I battled both Master Hand and Marth, but this time it'll be fair. And don't worry, I know I'm going to win. I've been waiting for this day to come for a long time." Link said with a determined glint in his eye.
Yayyy I am seriously on a roll! What should I say here?
