They quickly threw in some clothes and headed towards the door. Maura opened the door slowly.

"Janie!"

"Pop, what are you doing here?"

"What are you doing here?"

"Ma told me I couldn't live there as long as I was dating Maura, she kicked me out."

"Oh, your mother's evil, you already know that. I don't know why you're surprised. That's why I'm leaving her."

"What, when did this happen?"

"When you got put in the hospital, I saw how happy you were because of your little friend right here. And I realized I'd never been that happy with your mother in all of the years we were married. I'm sick of her."

"Maura, her name's Maura. So you're just going to leave her?"

"Yes, I sent her divorce papers last month, but she ripped them up. I'll keep sending as soon as I officially move."

"Where are you going to live?"

"That's what I came to ask you. I'm moving to Florida, and I was going to ask if you wanted to come live with me there."

Jane turned to look at Maura.

"No pop, I'm okay where I am."

"Fine. But if this thing with Maura doesn't work out you can come find me."

"We'll make it work. And what are you thinking Pop? She has no job, how she going to take care of Frankie and Tommy? How's she going to pay the bills? You're not just leaving her, you're leaving them too."

"I told your brothers that they could come too. Tommy's in the car. Frankie doesn't want your mother to be alone, so he's staying for now. When she gets a job and is able to take care of herself he might come to Florida too. He's going to get a part time job to help her. They don't like it there with her, none of us do."

"Wow, all of this to leave her."

"No, it's not all of this. I'm leaving and if my children want to come they can too. It's as simple as that. I'm not making you 3 come with me, it's your choice. I want a better life for myself and a better life for my children, and this is the first step."

"I understand."

"Well I see you've made up your mind Janie. I guess me and Tommy will be going now."

Jane walked to the car to hug her little brother and her dad as they pulled off for Florida. She would've cried if Frankie was leaving too. Frankie was always her favorite member of the family. But since it was only her dad and Tommy she was only sad. She walked back into the house shut and locked the door behind her, and hugged her girlfriend.

"Well this sucks balls."

"I can't say that I know how it feels, but I could image." She stroked Jane's hair.

"My family has been broken up, all because of my mother."

"Well you're stuck with me, and Frankie is still here. Plus your dad said you could visit him whenever. Your family isn't broken up permanently, they have just dispersed."

"I guess you're right." They embrace ceased. "And if that offer still stands, I'd like to go somewhere now."

"Where would you like to go?"

"To the galleria, and then we can have dinner at one of the restaurants there."

They had just thrown on clothes, so they could hurry to the door. They were both wearing shorts and tank tops. "Sounds good, we should change clothes Jane."

"Right."

They dressed casual and shopped for maybe three hours. They spent most of their time in sport's stores and game stop for Jane, and for Maura, clothes shopping. They decided to eat at Olive Garden. They were waiting five minutes until the waiter came to take their drink orders.

"Can I take your drink orders?"

"May I have a sweet tea, no lemon."

"Um.. Let me get the strawberry lemonade."

"I'll be right back with you drinks."

"Took him long enough to get here."

"I know, but it's pretty packed so I can see why."

"You know they're building a new store right there." She pointed across from the mall.

"Yes, what is it?"

"It's going to be like a Wal-Mart but they're of course going to change the name. But it's going to be better."

"I do not approve."

"Approve what?"

"The store. It takes brilliance and courage to build or make something original. Any fool can take something that's already been made and try to improve it, because the hard work has already been done."

"You're very intelligent ma'am. Not the American average."

"That's funny, that you're quoting the name of your ringtone. That song is highly inappropriate to be a ringtone."

"I like inappropriate." She winked at Maura. "I never asked you but how did you decide to be a teacher?"

"I didn't, I like children. I want to feel like I've done something productive with my life so I help the children who need it."

"You're only 17, and that's what you're worried about doing something productive with your life. You have plenty of time for that."

"Yes I know. But when I was little I really didn't have anyone. You never knew how lonely this world can get until you find yourself constantly alone. I like children; I'm not awkward around them like I am with other teens and adults. I like to feel needed and I kind of like being depended on. Whether it's to wash their hands, take them to the bathroom, help them eat, help them read or tie their shoe. It feels good being needed."

"I understand Maura, so what do you really want to be?"

"I, I always wanted to be a medical examiner, you know forensic pathologist, coroner. Is that weird?"

"Nope it's not weird at all, unless it's weird that I want to be a homicide detective."

"Detective Rizzoli it has a nice ring to it."

"Dr. Isles does to."

"You think we could be that one day?"

"I hope so."

They left the restaurant at 9, and walked into the parking lot hand in hand, when they heard screaming. They whispered.

"Maur, do you hear that?" Jane squeezed Maura's hand tighter.

"Yeah, I did Jane."

"It's coming from over here, by your car."

"Why did it have to by my car?"

They slowly approached; it was a man on top of a woman beating the crap out of her. Jane ran fast and quietly, she jumped and tackled the man. She punched him in the face and he was out cold. The woman however had stopped screaming. Maura quickly ran to her side, while Jane called the police. She got on her knees. She saw that the woman had been choked and started doing mouth to mouth, and cpr.

The woman started breathing eventually but not normally. Her breathing was irregular, clouded, and forced. Maura failed to notice that her neck was bleeding until she finished mouth to mouth. The woman had been shot; they tried to put pressure on but the wound kept bleeding. She needed to remove the bullet a.s.a.p. because the woman was losing too much blood. She used her fingers to dig inside eventually she found the bullet and managed to stop the bleeding. The woman looked at the car she had driven, and then passed out. Jane ran to check the car; there was a baby seat, but no baby.
