One More Night

Chapter Seven: Sunrises

Disclaimer: Nope, I don't own CL.

Aurora was backed against the wall, adrenaline rushing through her veins, keeping her eyes on William who was slowly walking closer to her with a dirty smirk on his face.

"Seems a little strange to me that our dear friends would allow you to come here, all alone." William's sword appeared in his hand and he lifted it, admiring it with a smirk on his face.

"Odd...devirtualize me, now." Aurora whispered quietly, and William laughed shaking his head.

"Oh dear girl, Odd is gone. I cut off all ties with Earth, and that dingbat is too much of an idiot to figure it out. Really though, it's your fault trusting him out of EVERYONE in the group with your life." Aurora stared him down, expressionless.

'Odd won't let me die in here, right?...Odd I trust you, I know you can do this.' Aurora nodded to herself and then ran and jumped over William and leapt off the staircase she was on to the platform below. A daring move, but she definitely had to get out of there and away from William.

"Heh, funny. You had such balls when everyone else was around, now all you know to do is run like a coward." William hopped on a Lanta which flew after Aurora. She reached to her holsters to grab her guns and started shooting at the Lanta, but shooting while running was harder than it seemed and she missed a few times.

"Der'mo.." (Shit...) She felt herself get hit with a laser and clenched her teeth. 'Come on Odd...'

"Ugggghhh what do I do?! I can't unplug it and plug it back in... Aurora could get stuck in Lyoko." Odd was frowning, pacing in the SuperComputer room, practically pulling his hair out in frustration. She had been stuck in there for at least ten minutes by now. 'Why me, why does this always happen to me?! Why can't this happen to Jeremy? Of course... Jeremy would be able to get Aurora out of this situation...' "UGH!" Odd slammed his fist down on the keyboard in frustration, and as luck would have it... the screen lit back up.

"System. Rebooting." A monotonous robotic female voice spoke over the walls of the room and Odd's eyes widened.

"Wellll whaddya know, maybe I am a genius after all!" Odd crossed his arms and smirked. "Yeah, I'm definitely a genius." He sat back down in the chair and placed the headset back on his head.

"Aurora can you hear me?"

"Oh God Odd, I never thought I'd be so happy to hear your voice!" Odd frowned at that comment.

"Well I WAS planning on devirtualizing you, but after that I think I might leave you in there."

"Agh! No please! I'm sorry. I don't have many life points left. Williams chasing me with so many monsters, please please please devirtualize me." Aurora pleaded, and Odd sighed, bringing up the page on the computer screen. She was right, she only had twenty life points left. He started the devirtualization process and hopped off the chair to run down the ladder and meet her at the virtualizers.

Once back on Earth, the doors opened to her virtualizer opened and Aurora fell to her knees taking in a deep breath. Her breathing was ragged, and she squeezed her eyes shut.

'I was on the brink of death...' She frowned to herself. The sound of Odd's shoes tapping on the steps of the ladder sd he stepped down made her lift her head as she stood and gasped when she felt him grabbing her in a tight bear hug.

"I thought I lost you for a minute..." He whispered so softly, she didn't think that she was meant to hear it, but she smiled and wrapped her arms around his waist as well.

"I'm really glad you were here... I don't know if I would have made it out of there if it weren't for you." Aurora pulled away from the hug smiling at him.

"You know, just being the usual superhero I am." Odd grinned.

"Yeah, I'll admit...you were pretty studly today. I owe you."

"I can think of one way you can repay me..."

"Oh shut it." Aurora rolled her eyes, but laughed.

'My inspiration... my inspiration..? What inspires me?' Aurora frowned, pacing in her dorm. She slumped back onto her bed, sighing. She turned her head to the right, and saw the little black box Ulrich had given her sitting on her nightstand.

'What am I going to do about this wedding? I mean, do I even want to cancel it anymore? Ulrich and I have gotten pretty close these past few weeks...it's almost as if I'm getting feelings for him again...' She reached over and grabbed the box and opened it, revealing the ring. It had a large circle diamond in the middle with smaller diamonds forming a circle surrounding that one, and there were also diamonds going down one fourth of the way down on each side of the band. 'But if he was so in love with Yumi...why wouldn't he save something like this for her?' She frowned running her finger along the rock.

She closed her eyes, her memories tempting to return to her.

Ten years before, they were eight years old, in the fourth grade. Ulrich and Aurora were on a soccer field tossing a ball back and forth between each other.

"I don't understand why we need to practice, why can't we just go inside and play games?"

"You know your daddy will get mad at us if we don't practice!" Aurora frowned, kicking the ball past Ulrich's head. "You suck."

"I DO NOT SUCK!" Ulrich glared at Aurora who giggled.

"Then try and get the ball past me. I bet you a weeks worth of slavery that you can't!"

"Alright and if I win you have to do my chores!"

"Fine, but I get your allowance!"

"No way, that's not fair!" Ulrich pouted, bouncing the ball on his knees.

"Yeah, well if you didn't suck so bad, it wouldn't matter!" Aurora prepared herself, she knew Ulrich had a fierce kick, and he was very swift. "Bring it Stern!"

"You asked for it, Dimitov!" Ulrich let the ball drop to the ground, and Aurora's icy blue glare settled on her friend. With one swift kick he sent the ball hurdling towards Aurora and ran forward to keep up with it. Aurora kept her eyes on his feet backing up towards the other goal. His feet were quick, much to her disadvantage. He had finally got to where she was guarding, and had somehow tripped her, sending her face first into the ground.

"Ulrich!" She yelled, wiping the mud off of her face.

"Hahaaa! That's what you get for saying I suck!" The brunette boy laughed with joy as he sent the soccer ball into the goal. "You're my slave now sucker!" Aurora stood wiping off her shorts, sighing.

"Ulrich, I have something to tell you."

"What's the matter? Don't go telling me you're a sore loser!" Ulrich crossed his arms, as Aurora looked at him with sad eyes and shook her head, her dark ponytail swinging back and forth.

"We..we're moving to Russia in three days." Aurora's eyes filled with tears as Ulrich just stared at her with a deadpan look on his face.

"W-what...? But h..."

"Dad got a job in the government over there.. so we have to leave right away.. I didn't know how to tell you before..."

"Well... can't you just move in with us? You're practically family!" Aurora shook her head again, frowning.

"I already asked..." Her voice was barely audible, and Ulrich took a few steps forward, grabbing his friend in a hug.

"We'll get married! If you get married you won't ever be able to leave! You're my best friend Rorie.. You can't leave me." He tightened his grip on Aurora's shoulders, and Aurora reciprocated the hug, her tears finally falling from her eyes.

"Daddy will never go for that. He said I'm never allowed to get married."

"Well he will to me! Remember what they said, 'we're meant to be' or somethin' like that. We'll always end up together Rorie, you're my best friend."

"You're my best friend too Ulrich." They pulled back from the hug, and Ulrich wiped the tears from her eyes.

"Don't cry!"

"Ulrich, Aurora, let's go! It's time for dinner!" Aurora's mom, Mila pulled up in a car and Ulrich grinned.

"Last one to the car is a rotten egg!" He took off, and Aurora wiped her nose before picking up the ball and running after him.

"That's not fair, you're a cheater!"

Aurora opened her eyes, and she looked at the digital clock on her nightstand. It was five in the morning. "Man, did I really fall asleep?" She sighed sitting up. 'I guess I can get an early workout in. I wonder if Ulrich would be up for a run right now...' She reached for her phone, and saw a bunch of missed text messages.

'Hey Aurora, I just wanted to make sure you got back to your dorm safely, text me. -Odd'

'You disappeared last night, everything okay? -Ulrich'

'We need to talk. -Alexei'

'Aurora damnit, text me back. -Alexei'

'Hey Aurora, I didn't know if you still wanted to try out for cheer, but auditions are starting during break, you're welcome to join us if you'd like! -Sissi'

'Blah blah blah, who cares...' Aurora sighed as she scrolled through the messages. She went to her contacts, and went to Ulrich's name and called him. 'He's probably gonna be cranky, but I could care less.' The phone rang three times, and then he answered, sounding extremely groggy, but he answered.

"...hello?"

"Hey...Ulrich,"

"Rorie?" She smiled hearing her old nickname. "You do realize it's..." She heard him pause as he groaned out loud, and she had to stifle a giggle. "5:15!? Aurora..."

"I just wanted to see if you wanted to go on a run with me, if not it's fine. Just go back to sleep." Aurora sighed, and she heard Ulrich groaning again. He really was not a morning person.

"I probably should. Coach has been nagging me about running more on my own time. I'm gonna change and I'll meet you at your dorm in about five minutes."

"Kay see ya then!" Aurora smiled, hanging up. She could always count on Ulrich to be up for a workout, at any time of the day. She changed into some black Nike skintight running tights, and a bright blue fleece hoodie that matched the color of her eyes. She was just tying her hair up in a ponytail when she heard a knock on her door. "It's open!" She called out.

"Why in the world do you leave your dorm room unlocked? Don't you know how dangerous that is?" Aurora smiled and shook her head as Ulrich closed the door behind him.

"Since when are you my keeper?"

"Since you moved back here apparently. I can't protect you all the time, you know?" Aurora turned to look at him and locked her ice blue eyes with his, sending a shiver down his spine.

"I never asked you to." She walked past him grabbing her keys and stuck them in her sweater pocket. "Let's go." He followed her out of her room, and she locked the door behind them. No one else in Kadic was apparently awake, so they had no trouble getting outside.

"So what caused you to want to run this morning? And so damn early?" Ulrich groaned again. The moon was still in full bloom, and the stars were shining bright in the sky above. Aurora shrugged, avoiding eye contact with Ulrich and he gave her a weird look as they both started stretching. "Are we running on the track or...?"

"How about through the forest?" Aurora looked at him with a half smile, and Ulrich scratched the back of his neck.

"Umm isn't that a little bit dangerous?"

"Don't tell me you're scared, Stern..."

"Don't start with me, Dimitov." Ulrich crossed his arms, and Aurora shrugged.

"Fine, you can stay here and run on the track like a little baby. I, for one, am going to go run in the forest like an adult." Aurora picked up her feet and started running in place as Ulrich sighed, admitting defeat.

"Fine, have it your way." He started to run into the forest, and Aurora took off past him. "Aurora, be careful!" He called out, quickening his pace to catch her.

She didn't answer him, she just kept her head facing forward, and let her mind leave her. For now, she was free of all her worries and stress, nothing mattered except the ground beneath her feet and the crisp cool winter air biting at her skin. Aurora loved running in the cold, it was probably one of her top two favorite things. She could hear Ulrich gaining on her, the sound of his feet was almost right behind her, but she could really care less. Luckily, there was enough of a path paved out that she could run without having to be too careful and watch where she was going.

"Aurora...we're not...supposed to go..this far.." Ulrich managed to say to her between practiced breaths. Aurora wasn't listening though, she was in her own sort of world. He frowned, thinking she was ignoring him and quickened his pace to catch up to her again. When she became so damn fast, he didn't know. He reached out to grab her, and caught her off guard causing her to trip, and take him down with her.

"What the hell Ulrich?" Aurora glared up at him, and he frowned again.

"We're not supposed to go ahead, there's a cliff and a drop off." He shrugged, and Aurora looked up towards the sky which was starting to turn different shades of yellow, golds, and oranges. She smiled getting an idea, and grabbed Ulrich's hand, pulling him up with her.

"I have an idea, come on."

"Oh no, this wouldn't have anything to do with the cliff..would it?" Ulrich grimaced, and Aurora's eyes twinkled mischievously.

"Come on Ulrich, you're too much of a good boy. Live a little on the wild side, would you?" Aurora winked at him before taking off towards the aforementioned cliff/drop off. He watched her trot ahead with a baffled look on his face.

'Do I not fight bad guys in another dimension? How much more living can I do?' Ulrich shook his head and took off after her. He got to the clearing where Aurora was standing with a small smile on her face, with her hand on her hip. He had never been over here before, and he was sad to admit that because the view was spectacular. Kadic wasn't a very big city to begin with, so it had it's mystery spots that were hard to come across..but this...this was amazing. The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon causing small shades of pinks and oranges to form across the mounds of mountains. Behind them, the sky still shown as night, but right in front of their eyes, a new day was born. It was a rare sight, one that Ulrich didn't think too much about at all. "Woah..."

"Isn't it gorgeous? I always had a wonderful view of sunrises in St. Petersburg... I used to watch them every day." She sighed sitting on the edge of the cliff, staring up into the sky. Ulrich took the spot to her left and placed his arm behind her.

"You sound like you miss it there." Ulrich noted by her tone of voice, and she shrugged.

"I suppose at times. I mean, I did spend most of my teenage years there, you know? I had my first boyfriend, my first kiss...memories that I'll never forget."

"What about your first love?" He asked her and she stayed silent, trying to think of how to answer. She opened her mouth to answer a few times, but the right words never found their way. "Aurora... I do know how to live on the wild side." She cocked her head to look at him, slightly confused, immediately felt his lips crashing down on hers, but softly.

'Wh...why is he doing this..? He has Yumi..' Aurora thought to herself, all conscious thought fleeting her mind as her eyelids fluttered shut. She found herself getting lost in the passion of the unexpected kiss. Ulrich didn't do unexpected, he liked to stay with the familiar...or so he thought. That was all before Aurora came back into the picture. And ever since she came back...things had been changing.
