Chapter 7: Hospital Visit

Christie was alive, just barely, but alive, and that was more than anyone could ask for. The doctors said she'd lost a fair amount of her blood but with a few transfusions, she would make a full recovery.
Moments after Finn and Siddeley were relayed this information, Holley flew inside the room. "How is she?" she demanded, joining the pair at Christie's bedside.
Not looking away from Christie, Finn informed her, "It will be a while before she is fully recovered but for now, she's fine."
Placing a hand against her chest, Holley breathed out a sigh of relief. "That's good to hear. I'm just glad she's okay."
"Speak of which," Siddeley interjected, "how is Collin?"
Her voice taking on a bitter tone, Holley informed him with a smirk, "Well, his vacation took a turn for the worst, that's for sure. He's in jail for now, until the courts decide what to do with him."
"Tough decision," Finn mumbled bitterly as his grip on the bed frame tightened, his knuckles whitening as a result.
Crossing her arms, Holley optimistically pointed out, "But since he may be connected to our case, we get to interrogate him."
At that, Finn perked up. "That does make me feel better."
"It should," Holley told him before adding, "Because we don't have to give him up until we feel there's no more information to get out of him."
"We won't be letting go of him for a while, then," Siddeley commented airily, exchanging a smile with Finn and Holley. Sure they couldn't do anything too terrible to Collin, but that didn't mean they weren't going to make him feel the same pain they were currently going through at the moment.
It was three in the morning. Holley and Siddeley had left the hospital a few hours ago but Finn remained with Christie. One of the more pleasant perks of being a spy was that, under special circumstances, he could not be kicked out of the hospital room so long as he didn't interfere with the doctors and nurses when they came by to administer tests and treatments.
Finn had been up for hours on end waiting for Christie to stir, yet the exertion and painkillers seemed to be keeping her from waking up. He was just about to nod off when a quiet voice whispered, "Finn?"
His eyes immediately flew open as he looked around for the source of the sound. Realizing it was Christie, he looked over at her and smiled hugely upon seeing that she was awake and talking.
When he made eye contact with her, she smiled softly up at him. "Hey, you. What are you still doing up?"
"I couldn't sleep," he replied, taking her hands in his.
Christie looked at him sympathetically before sliding over in the hospital bed and patting the space beside her, beckoning for him to join her.
Finn shook his head. "I can't."
Christie pouted before arguing, "Finn, there's plenty of room. Besides, that chair cannot be all that comfortable."
"The chair isn't what's keeping me awake," Finn told her softly, looking away from her.
Her brow furrowing in confusion, Christie pleaded, "Then what's wrong? Come on up here and tell me already."
Sighing in defeat, Finn got up and laid beside Christie, kicking his shoes off as he did so.
Once Finn had made himself comfortable, Christie laid her head on his shoulder and commanded him, "Now tell me what's wrong."
"I can't sleep because every time I shut my eyes, I picture you closing your eyes and this time there is no saving you. You just die. It's not as bad when I'm awake." His response ended and there was nothing but heavy silence.
After a moment, Christie broke the silence by saying, "Well I'm not going anywhere now, am I?" She smiled then, but upon seeing Finn's still serious face, she adds, "I love you, Finn. I didn't just say it earlier because I thought I would never see you again. I really do love you."
Finn smiled softly and wrapped his arm around her shoulders before absentmindedly running his fingers through her hair. As he did so, he said, "I love you, too, Christie."
Christie happily snuggled closer to Finn, pulling her feet under her thighs as she did so. She sighed contentedly as he continued to run his fingers through her hair before craning her neck and kissing him on the lips. Finn leaned into the kiss, enjoying the feel of Christie's lips on his tremendously. After a beat, the two pulled apart and stared at each other in the eye before smiling.
Closing the distance between themselves, the two shared another kiss. After a moment, they pulled apart and got comfortable on the bed. Christie laid her head on Finn's chest and he tightened the grip on her waist before he finally nodded off. This time his mind wasn't plagued with Christie dying but rather the future that they could have together. He wouldn't be missing this hospital bed and being plagued by thoughts of her dying, but Christie lying beside him, their arms wrapped around each other, made it all the more bearable. Finn kissed her on the forehead before finally drifting away himself.
