Pre T.A.A.H
There was just something about that hat.
Link had been wearing it for as long as he could remember, in every life that he could clearly recall. He apparently had many. One in every color of the rainbow, one to match every outfit he had, and there was probably one to mark every holiday that could be celebrated. But the green one had always been his favorite.
Link mentioned that in the Kokiri forest, his hat had once been a cause of ridicule. Mido used to make fun of him because his did not point up like the hats of the other boys did. It was just one more thing that made him stand out from the rest of the children in his village. No fairy, no forest based skills, and one very odd drooping hat. Link had wanted to get rid of it once the teasing got to be too much for him, but some odd little fondness rooted deep within him kept him from throwing it away. From then on he simple ignored any comments made about his clothes.
The teasing of said article of clothing, however, stopped when the Great Deku Tree made mention of how much it suited Link. He said it made him look wiser and more refined, like a village elder whose knowledge was limitless though his body and soul was that of a child's. "Like a brave hero who stands out amongst the crowd", he said.
Link's adoration of his hat grew when Saria said that, unlike Mido's, Link's hat did not make him look like he had a pointy head. Instead it worked with his natural bone structure to make him look more handsome. All the girls were quick to agree. From then on some of the nicer boys who Link had always gotten along with joined in. They said his hat was unique. Therefore it was a lot cooler than theirs. Mido eventually gave up and forgot about the hat, conceding that he guessed it did do something for Link in hindsight.
Siegfried wasn't sure what that hat did for Link exactly, but whatever magic spell it managed to put him under, Siegfried positively adored it when Link put it on.

"I want to ask you something." Maxi said to him one day. "Do you know everything there is to know about Link?"
Siegfried had to think about that for a minute. He knew quite a bit about Link, that much was certain. He knew the likes and dislikes, fears, hopes, dreams, and desires. He knew about the special memories the elf kept in his heart, and he knew, in detail, about the times when Link's life had been destroyed. He knew quite a lot.
But did he know everything about every life Link had ever had? Were there no more mysteries in the Hylian's heart that Siegfried had not figured out the answers to?
"Not everything, no."
Maxi hesitated before speaking again. "Then how are you two this close? Doesn't not knowing ever make you doubt?"
Siegfried had no problem in smiling. "Not knowing is a part of any relationship, especially when you move from a friendship to a lover. Figuring out what you never knew is part of the fun. Thoroughly exploring every fiber of your partner's being is what makes everything so much more satisfying, and that thrill of discovery is what keeps it interesting."
By the end of the speech Maxi was smiling too.
"Why do you ask?"
"Just wanted to be reassured I guess."
Siegfried raised an eyebrow when the pirate began walking off. "Where are you going?"
Maxi did not turn around, and instead saluted his friend as he kept on walking. "I'm going to go exploring for a bit."
Siegfried had never been more confused as to what was going on in that man's head.
Fang: You're going somewhere with that Maxi romance thing aren't you?
Mistress: Perhaps. Someone involved in the developing process of 'To Aid A Hero' brought the possibility to my attention. If I can incorporate it with enough good taste and structure then I want to expand on it. It's definitely something to think on now that I've decided on the path I want the story to head in.
Fang: Why not? Read and Review.
