Hey, so still working on this story of course. I got another chapter and it ended up going in a direction I didn't expect lol.
Also the poll is still up on my profile page for now.
Now let's get going to the chapter!
Ch.7
Sora had continued his stroll, and he already had lost track of time. He had no idea how long he had been out, but be figured it was probably over an hour. It didn't really matter to him though, he found walking around the best way to keep his mind calm and relaxed. Though the overall thoughts of every part of his situation stayed in his head.
He hadn't even been paying attention to where he was walking, and when he finally took the time to notice, he was no longer in the park area. He was far from it in fact. He now had ended up down in the main area of the town he lived it. It wasn't a large bustling city, but it was at least an average main town area.
He took another glance around at the particular area was most likely at the main street that had various different shops and stores. Sora stopped and took in the surroundings, wondering if anything looked familiar to him or not.
Still nothing really came to him. He knew that things should be familiar, which they did feel slightly like that, but there was no for sure feeling that he had. Though the more he looked around, he felt like it would be fine to walk around.
"Maybe the more I walk around, the more I may end up remembering. I just hope… that I don't end up forgetting everything in my dreams because of that…" Sora thought to himself as he walked down main street.
He looked up and around at the different stores, trying to see if there was anything that he could recall about any of them. Most of them were just average stores that would be found on a main street; craft stores, small restaurants, small clothing stores. Though he came across one that caused him to stop and stare inside from the window.
It was a video game store. Sora could feel there was something about this store that drew his attention more than the others. "Maybe went here a lot before… before the coma…"
While he stood there, he began to debate if he wanted to even venture inside. He had a moment where he thought back to finding the books in his room. Half of the friends he made on his dream adventures were just characters from children's story books. But some of the friends he made he didn't find any books for. Like Leon, Cloud, and many others.
A small sinking feeling filled inside Sora. Something deep inside of his mind was trying to tell him something… trying to remind him of something. Were Leon and the others… also not real? Sora had seen Hayner though… he was real. But Sora had no way of knowing or telling who else was real.
"Hayner is someone who is real… but maybe Pence and Olette aren't… who knows… but… I don't know I wanna see more friends just as fictional characters…" Sora sighed deeply as he thought to himself.
With one more long stare through the window, video games as well as video game merchandise, Sora finally to walk away. Now he could only hope that he sinking feeling in his stomach would leave him. He knew that feeling though let him to believe his thoughts could very well be true. But he was in no mood to try and confirm it.
He turned his head down to the ground, staring at his shoes as he walked. He tried to keep himself calm, but the sinking feeling was not leaving, and now some other feelings were slipping into his mind. He started to wonder more and more just how many of his friends were real… and now many of they were just fake. How many friends did he imagine were real and that he was friends with? How many did he just know of in the real world, but wasn't friends with them? There was far too many questions surfacing in his head and his head started to ache slightly.
Sora stopped dead in his tracks as he swirled around and headed back towards the store. His mind now seemed to do a complete 180 flip. At first he didn't want to know. He didn't want to hurt his heart anymore to learn more of his friends didn't exist as real people. But now couldn't go any further if he didn't try to find the answers. If he let them linger in his head, he was afraid he was going to go crazy. He wasn't exactly sure, but he had a feeling that that video game store just may have some of those answers.
He ran up to the store front and wrapped his fingers around the door handle. Then he suddenly froze up. He felt uncertain again. He felt afraid of what he would end up learning once he entered. But he knew he also needed to know.
With a deep breath he pulled open the door and stepped inside. The little bell tied to the top of the door jingled as the door opened and then closed behind him. He started to look around at the rows of new release video games that were closest to the door. Nothing caught his attention, but he kept walking more into the store, seeing what else there was.
"Hey, welcome. Can I help-" a voice started to say. "Holy sh*t. Sora?!"
Sora tensed up at the sudden voice and quickly turned to look at the checkout counter. There sitting in a chair just behind the register was a young adult with dirty blonde hair. He had a few strands of hair that fell in front of his face, but most of it was gelled up on top. Though the sides were shaved and his hair ran down to just above his shoulders in the back.
Sora stared wide-eyed at the man before him. He quickly glanced at the nametag that the man wore and read the name: Demyx.
Sora almost couldn't believe who he was seeing. Then again he had already seen and ran into several people that he had met in his dreams. Demyx was the fifth person now that he had seen since waking up. Though the two looked at each other, both of the, couldn't seem to find any words to say to one another.
Finally though Demyx cleared his throat and stood up. "Sora? Is… Is it really you?"
Sora nodded slowly without even thinking, mainly because he still could not find any words to say. Out of all the people that he had meet, encountered, or fought in his dream world, Demyx was the least likely person he ever expected to see.
Demyx smiled as he got up from his chair and ran out from the counter and up to Sora. Without warning he threw his arms around him and gave him a hug. "This is so awesome! You're back and stuff!" He then noticed how shocked and surprised Sora looked so he quickly let go and took a stepped back.
"Oh sorry there. I probably got a little too excited," Demyx stated as he rubbed the back of his neck.
"Y-Yeah…" Sora finally managed to say, still trying to take in everything. He still tried to think of what he could even say to this situation. But no matter what he thought, there was still nothing that would come to his mouth.
"I still can't believe it. You're really back. When I heard what happened… it was pretty sad. I didn't know what to ever think. Oh…" Demyx paused again as he looked at Sora, noticed his still surprised expression. "Is it all right if I talk about that stuff? You know… what happened? If not I totally get it. I don't wanna upset you or anything."
Sora rubbed his face and shook his head. Trying to finally snap out his his daze. "No no. It's fine. I'm just… a bit dazed I guess. I mean…" Sora breathed in deeply. No matter how weird this seemed, he had to try to get through it. "I just don't remember a whole lot from before since… well since I was in a coma for two years. It's kind of gotten blurred out."
"Oh I see… Well if you need any refreshed I can help! I don't know how much you remember, but you were one of the best customers here," Demyx explained as he gave a cheerful grin. "Always wanting to know about the new and cool video game releases."
"So… we knew each other then?" Sora decided to ask, hoping to know a bit more about Demyx in his real life. Seeing as in his dream world, Demyx was a lazy, but surprisingly strong member of Organization XIII. This real word Demyx was the completely opposite for sure. Also to add to the fact that they seemed to be friends, which Sora didn't see as a bad thing at least.
Demyx nodded. "Yeah of course! You and I have a lot of favorite games and comics in common, hence you being one of the best customers here."
"Ah… I see," Sora mumbled as he eyes started to dart around the room, noticing various items and games on shelves. He then looked back at Demyx. "So I was really into video games. What kind?"
"Oh the best kind of course! The fantasy RPGs, adventure and action games," Demyx answered. "Mainly the best RPG series out there in our opinion… the Final Fantasy series."
For some reason to Sora, that did sound right. What Demyx was saying sounded like it was true. But there was still the side that made him worried to know for sure. But he decided to answer back to Demyx anyways. "Well… it does sound familiar at least. Sorry though… I still can't remember anything really."
"Why not though? Like… I don't quite know how being in a coma then waking from it works, but surely you would have something to remember right?"
Sora breathed in slowly, preparing himself to try and explain it. He hadn't really done explained to anyone but Xion, but he saw that Demyx was his friend here. And it did make him feel a bit better to know he had other friends, even if he didn't remember them directly as his friends. "I was in a coma for two years… and I kind of dreamt up a world… and made up memories for that world. So right now… I really only can remember things how they were in that dream. Which is why I don't exactly remember you as how you are here."
"Wait what? What do you mean by that? You mean I apart of the world you created in your dream when you were in a coma?"
Sora nodded. "Yeah, something like that. Sorry it's a bit hard to explain."
"No I think I get it. I think that sounds pretty crazy, but also cool! How much do you remember? What was I doing there? Can you tell me about it?"
Sora took a step back, tensing up slightly. He didn't expect to get asked so many questions all at once. He shifted slightly as he averted his eyes away from Demyx. "I… I don't know. Not right now at least. I'm still trying to adjust to that world not being the real one."
"Sorry," Demyx quickly apologizes. "I got too curious again. Sorry if I overwhelmed you or anything. It was just a shock to see you back today. I never expected to see you back, you know?"
"Yeah… that is how everyone is thinking about it. I understand… but I just need some more time. I was only outside today to try and clear my head as well as just get outside."
"Gotcha! Sorry again though for asking too much. I'll try to not go crazy and ask more questions again. Not until you are feeling ready about it."
"Thanks Demyx," Sora saida s he glanced to the clock on the wall.
The time was just a little past 2pm. He had been out nearly two hours now. Sora almost couldn't believe that much time had slipped away, but then again he did end up space out into a lot of his thoughts. But at least one his walk today he had made several important discoveries. Hayner was real, but Sora wasn't sure if they knew each other. Demyx was real, and the strangest surprise was that they were friends. And then that he liked the video game series called Final Fantasy. He had a feeling there was more to that series than just enjoying it, but that would be something he would look into for another time.
"I think I am going to head home though. I didn't even notice the time… but it was nice to see you again," Sora replied as he smiled to Demyx.
"Yeah for sure! Man still so crazy that you showed up today. But be sure to stop in again when you can. There is a lot we gotta catch up on for video games."
Sora couldn't help but chuckle slightly. "Yeah, sounds fun. Thanks Demyx."
Feeling a bit better than before, Sora waved goodbye to Demyx before exiting back outside. He stood there for a moment as he took in a few deep breaths. Everything felt so surreal in that moment. But it lead him to feeling a bit better about who was real and who wasn't. Sora now felt more confident that Kairi was in fact real. He just had to find her now.
So yeah I didn't expect to have Demyx show up here. But it just ended up being that and then it was a thing. So now Demyx is here, but we still all wonder, what about Kairi :D
Also yes the poll is still up, I will probably keep it up for a chapter or two before seeing the final result. So if you have not voted yet, be sure to check it out.
Thank you all for reading though!
