So it's been a while. My friend, Melaina, told me that I needed to post the new chapter soon, so why not tonight!
Anyway, enjoy!
Chapter 7
January 1st 2014
Melaina
As soon as I heard her scream, my eyes opened immediately. I shot up and looked to my side where I saw Christina writhing around in pain. Her face was red and tear stained and it killed me to see her like that. I have been an Angel for many years and I have never seen anything like this happen to a human. Her arms flailed around her and she hit me in the eyes. I screamed her name, trying to snap her out of it, but it wasn't working. She was reaching around herself, clawing at her back.
She ripped the fabric of her pyjama top with her nails exposing her soft clear skin...and something else. Outlining her shoulder blades were two lines of light pink tissue that was slowly turning purple with bruises. I gasped and realised that Christina was something different than a human. But how could she be an Angel when she didn't give off an Aura. But then I saw something. It was like the bones beneath her skin were pushing their way around her body, trying to escape but they couldn't. The more she moved around, the more she screamed.
I tried to stop her. I put my hands on her side and pressed her body into her sleeping bag, trying to stop her from moving. But she was strong, stronger than any human. It was freaking me out and making me confused. If she wasn't human and she wasn't an Angel then what was she?
My attempt of stilling her wasn't working, so I decided to call for help. I couldn't call an ambulance about this; they were going to be as useless as wet paper. I reached for my phone and dialled Arianne.
Sam
I was going to have to confess and tell everybody that I messed up the plan. After Christina fell and Dean and I moved to the Compound in Toronto, Canada, we decided that we were just going to let nature run its course. We didn't want to have to deal with seeing her again because it was going to break our hearts. Nobody else knew about our plan at first, but when the others decided that they were going to look for her and gradually train her into her destiny, we opted out and said that we shouldn't interfere with the Throne's power. We assumed that Christina was better off without us in her life, ruining it.
I stopped pacing in my room and went to sit on the edge of my bed, to think of the words I was going to say to them all. But I couldn't concentrate when there was something staring at me in the face. Underneath the flat screen on the wall there was a dresser, and on top of that was Christina's dagger. I had carried it around for years, and I never got rid of it. Sometimes, I had this thought that I should just sell it and get rid of every memory of her because it would only make me depressed but then I thought, it's the only thing I have left of her; the only thing that reminds me about how we met.
I remembered that day like it was yesterday. When it was 1502 she bought the dagger from the Blacksmiths where I worked and I made it for her. Yeah, it was for her father but then she moulded it into her possession. I couldn't get rid of it. So, instead, I made a stand for it, and now it sits quietly waiting to be held by its master.
When I finally found the courage to stand up and walk out, I made my way downstairs towards the living room where everyone was. It had just turned 6.30am; everyone's normally up at this time. I know because I've seen Luce and Daniel take their morning flight together. I hadn't slept at all after I got home at, like, 2am. I just kept thinking about my kiss with Christina and a good enough reason as to why I did it. I found everyone in the kitchen having breakfast. Luce and Arianne were sat at the island in the middle talking with coffee in their hands; Daniel was at the stove; Dean was pouring some cereal and Cam...well, like always, Cam was missing.
At first they didn't realise I was standing there, but then Dean sensed my presence and turned. "Hey Dad, you okay?" he asked. I noticed the concern in his voice when he saw my face.
I shook my head, and thought I should just come straight out with it. "I kissed Christina." All eyes turned to me, mouths open and food forgotten. I smelt something burning as Daniel wasn't paying attention to it. "I'm sorry," I continued, "but it was the New Year kiss."
No one said anything at first, but Luce did drop her spoon in her bowl making a clank sound. I looked around and I felt nervous underneath all their stares. It was Daniel who broke the silence after turning off the stove. "I'm sorry, man." Those were the only words he said and I was a little...confused. I had thought they would have yelled at me and told me I had made a huge mistake but they were sorry! I looked around at all their faces and they all looked sorry.
"I don't understand," I replied, and Arianne shook her head.
"We kind of knew this would happen as soon as we knew she was around. You can't help who you fall in love with so it was bound to happen," she replied, standing up and coming beside me.
Luce spun around on her chair, "We can't imagine how you must be feeling. And we're sorry, but we're here for you."
I frowned and just blinked. The only thing that snapped me out of my trance was the sound of Arianne's phone ringing. She fished it out of her pocket and frowned down at her phone.
"Hmm," she said to herself, "It's Melaina." Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Dean snap his head around to our direction. Arianne pressed accept on her iPhone and answered. "Melaina! What's up?" We couldn't hear anything on the other end, but I could tell that Melaina's voice was frantic and Arianne looked worried. Her head snapped to me when she heard something and her face was apologetic.
"What?" I asked, getting a little concerned.
Arianne didn't take her eyes off me when she spoke in the phone, "Melaina, let me put you on to Sam."
She handed the phone to me slowly and I took it, a little confused. I felt a little uncomfortable as well because I hadn't really spoken to Melaina much. I spoke to her once, ages ago, when Christina was hit in the face with the volleyball during Gym class and I carried her to the nurse's office, and that was it. But when I held the phone to my ear and heard faint screaming and crying in the background and Melaina's frantic voice say three words to me, my heart sunk.
"Sam, its Christina!"
Melaina
I tried to hold her down but she was too strong. I ended up sitting on the small of her back to stop her from moving. As she screamed, she tried to push me off her with her hips but I was persistent and I would not fail her. I held her shoulders down and that was when I felt the burning of her skin. No human skin should be that hot, it was literally on fire. I needed to cool her down. I went into the kitchen and got a plastic bucket and filled it up with some cold water. To make it even colder, I put some ice in it from the freezer. I quickly grabbed a clean rag from under the sink and threw it in the bucket. I rushed back into the living room and Christina was still in the same position but she wasn't moving as much. She was whimpering under the pain and her eyes were still closed. I don't think she was aware of what was happening to her, because she didn't open her eyes once.
I gently placed the rag over her back to try and cool her down, but then a whimper escapes her lips. I felt guilty for not being able to help her much. A few seconds later, as the coldness started to seep into her body, she started to move again. It was more violent this time and it was all of sudden that it knocked me over and onto my butt. I had called Arianne, so she must have been on her way at that point.
But she wasn't. She, Sam and Dean burst through the door; their wings spread out behind them and then suddenly back into their bodies. Sam looked straight to the floor and his face fell. He jumped over the couch that was in front of the door and crouched down next to Christina. Arianne crouched in front of her and held her hands above her head, so she couldn't claw at her skin.
"What's happening to her?" asked Sam in a frantic tone. He was looking to Arianne for an answer.
"I don't know!" she cried, "This shouldn't be happening! We should take her back to the Compound and see if there's anything in our library that can tell us what's going on!" She tried to yell over Christina's screaming.
I hadn't noticed Dean when he crouched down beside me. I tried to avoid his gaze, because we both knew about each other. Christina's cries slowly turned into mere whimpers and her hands were relaxing in Arianne's grip. Suddenly, there were no sounds coming from her mouth.
I tried to nudge her awake, "Christina?" but she was unconscious.
The others gently turned her over and Sam picked her up, her limp arms swayed beneath her. Arianne moved them so that they were sitting on her stomach. I watched as Sam held her in his arms, like there was something between them. I mean, I knew they kissed at the New Year party, but maybe there was something deeper.
"Where are you taking her?" I asked them.
It was Dean that replied, the first time I actually looked into his eyes at all that night, "To the Compound on the other side of town."
"The Compound? What's that?" I asked.
Arianne spoke up as Sam carried Christina to the front door, "It's a place where Angels can take refuge...and various Demons that can be trusted. There are hundreds of them all over the world."
"It also happens to be our home," said Dean, with his back turned to me.
I quickly grabbed my 'special' coat – the ones with slits in at the back – "I'm coming too!" I called.
Arianne laughed, "Be sure to keep up!"
Suddenly, all three of them spread their wings out behind them and it was radiant. Arianne's more radiant than the others and I wondered why that was. They were clear white and blinding to the human eye. At that time, I didn't normally see another Angels' set of wings. It was quite extraordinary.
The tenseness that I kept in myself for most of the day was released when I spread my wings out behind me and joined the others on the front lawn. I locked the door behind me and put the keys in my coat pocket. I wasn't wearing much; just my PJ's (a dark teal t-shirt with cream pyjama bottoms with dark teal stripes going all the way down. I had also thrown on my black and silver fluffy slippers that looked like boots because my feet were cold earlier).
Off into the night we flew with Sam at the front, Arianne behind him and Dean in front of me. Every so often, I could see Dean look behind him just to make sure I was still there.
It's strange. Everything seems to be...different now.
Dean
We could have lost her that night. As soon as I saw my mother writhing around on the floor in pain, I knew that something was not right. This was in the power of the Throne and maybe she had the answers. But what if she didn't? Arianne was right, we need to check the archives at the Compound for anything like this.
When we arrived at the Compound, Arianne held the doors open for Dad to come through with Mom. I moved forward and opened the double doors to the set of stairs leading down to the Compound. Melaina looked slightly confused of everything. She noticed we went to an ordinary house on the other side of town thinking that it must be the Compound, but then when I opened the doors to go downstairs, it all started to click together. She was a very bright girl.
Luce and Daniel were standing in the living room when we arrived. They quickly came into the main room and spoke to Arianne. She told them the story about how they found her in pain and that they should go with her to look in the library for answers.
They soon disappeared off down a hallway towards the library. Dad started walking towards the bedrooms.
"Come with me," he yelled, as he spread his wings again and rushed down the hall.
Melaina and I joined him. When we got to the hall of bedrooms he rushed up to the ones on the second floor because those were the ones that were our bedrooms. I opened the door to Dad's room and went inside to open the door for him. He laid Mom down on the bed after Melaina pulled the covers back for her.
"Dean, get a fire going!" he called.
I rushed over to the fireplace, took the lighter from the mantelpiece and set the wood on fire. Melaina soon joined me to help add some more wood to the fire. When we looked back, Dad had already pulled up a chair beside Mom and holding her delicate hand in his.
I suddenly got this horrible feeling that she was dying all over again. I couldn't bear to stay in the same room. My Dad felt comfortable staying by her side, holding her and not letting go. He stared longingly at her face like he was never going to see it again. I looked down at my hands and wiped the sweat from my forehead.
I left the room, not wanting to look at my parents any more. It made me sad to see them that way. It made me even sadder to know that my mother was right in front of me yet still felt thousands of miles away. Because she doesn't know.
"Dean, wait!" called Melaina from behind me. I didn't really feel like talking to her, but I wasn't going to walk away from her again. So I turned around.
I ran my hand down my face, "I'm sorry," I murmured.
"You have nothing to be sorry for but can you please tell me what the hell is going on?!" she cried frantically.
I shook my head, "God, I wish I knew."
Melaina
I didn't understand the drama behind Deans 'I wish I knew' statement. It made me wonder if there's more behind the story that I've been led to know. Why was Christina in so much pain? What's causing it? What the business between Sam and Christina? Are they more than just...friends?
I couldn't concentrate on the book I was reading in front of me. I had taken it from the random bookshelf at the side of the guest room Arianne put me in. I kept realising that I was reading a book but I wasn't focusing on the words; they weren't sinking in. I was stuck on reading just the one page over and over again until finally I understood the words.
But it was no use; many things were running through my mind.
According to Arianne, the Compound comes with everything. It was very old fashioned with four-poster beds, old book cases and grandfather clocks in the corner that freaked me out a little. But there were some modern things in there too, like the 50" flat screen handing directly above the fireplace. There was also a computer over on the desk at the side. The only thing missing was a window. I understood that seeing as we were underground.
Other than the fact that I couldn't concentrate, Christina was still unconscious and I didn't have a window...the Compound was kinda nice.
Dean
I didn't know if I should go in or not. She was pretty freaked out before. I thought I should give her some space but then again, she did deserve some answers. Hell, I don't know most of them but at least she can be kept up like the rest of us.
Ah Hell! Here goes nothing, I thought. I raised my fist and knocked gently on to her bedroom door. I heard rustling coming from the other side of the door and then the beautiful face of Melaina appeared in front of me seconds after.
"Hi," I said. Not my best opening line. She said 'hi' back and I smiled. But then I sighed, feeling lost. "I just wanted to say that I'm sorry. And not just for earlier, but for earlier earlier; at the dance when the clock went."
I could see the redness in her face, but she just tilted her head, "Do you regret kissing me?" she asked.
Of course I don't regret it, I could never regret it. "No, the only thing I regret was the way I acted when I...found out you were an Angel. I guess I just felt stupid because I should have known."
She smiled lightly, "Don't worry about it. I've always known you were an Angel. I noticed it the second you started Blackthorn High."
I widened my eyes, "Why didn't you say anything?" I asked.
Melaina shrugged her shoulders, "I don't know. In school I'm a nobody, why would I all of a sudden hang out with the most popular people in school?"
I parted my mouth in surprise, "You're not a nobody."
She looked up to me and smiled, "Thank you." She reached out her arms and wrapped them around my neck. I took that as a sign that I should put my arms around her. I slid my arms around her waist, trying to memorise every curve of her body.
We stayed like that for a moment, before her luscious lips pressed lightly against my cheek. I wanted to kiss her, so badly. But it was too soon. It would just weirder things out.
She pulled back slightly and whispered softly in my ear, "We're okay."
Christina
I fluttered my eyes open and found myself in an unfamiliar place. I widened my eyes and adjusted to my surroundings. The place didn't look threatening, it looked...beautiful. I felt like I was in a hotel yet there was something strange about the place. I felt like I had been in a place just like this one before.
I pulled the covers back and found that I was still in my pyjamas that I was wearing at Melaina's.
Oh God! Melaina! She must have been worried! I searched around the room for any signs of my belongings. I don't remember getting out of my sleeping bag and coming to this place. I must have been brought here. I checked the small chair beside my bed, the bed site tables, and the small table in the corner.
But something caught my eye. Something on top of the table in the corner. I walked over for a better look and it was a dagger with a black handle next to a tea set. I lifted it from it's stand and pulled the blade from its sheath. I noticed the Angel insignia on the handle and suddenly...something came to me.
A woman's voice.
She looked like me; long brown hair but with green eyes. She had the longest eyelashes I have ever seen which only made her more beautiful. She was looking directly at me.
A man was hovering directly above her, holding a dagger in her direction. In a few seconds flat, he struck her in the stomach with his blade. I gasped.
"Cori!" she cried. "Corri, my child! Go Christina!" What the hell?! How did she know my name!?
The moment ended, and the last thing I saw were the dark eyes of the woman's killer.
I was shocked and confused. So shocked, that I stumbled on my feet and fell to the floor. I grabbed the table for support but it only made a loud crash when the tea cups and saucers fell to the floor in a huge crash around my body. The dagger flew away from me and my side hurt with pain.
All of a sudden, the door bust open and Sam Everston was rushing towards me.
Anyway, the reason for Christina's pain in her back will be explained..maybe in the next chapter - if I can fit it in.
I hope you enjoyed it!
Until next time!
