Day 7: December 20, 2013

"Hi, Mama," Shelby frowned deeply, Rachel never sounded depressed, ever.

"How are you, baby girl?"

Rachel sighed heavily, "That's a very poor choice of words considering what's been going on for the last week. Be careful what you say, or tomorrow you might wake up to find yourself strapped with a baby and two preschoolers to take care of."

"Don't give up, sweetheart. I gave my word I would help you fix this, and I'm going to," Shelby promised seriously.

"I know you will," Rachel said dejectedly, "Damnit, I'm sorry, Mama can you hold on for one minute," Shelby could tell that Rachel was holding her hand over the phone to muffle the sound, "Santana Maria Lopez, I said quit jumping on the furniture! That is strike 2, little girl, one more and I am turning you over my knee and tanning your behind. I have had enough of your misbehaving today!"

Shelby heard Santana answer back and could tell she was sassing Rachel. She waited until her daughter got back on the line, "Rachel, let me speak to Santana please."

"Are you sure?"

Shelby nearly growled, "I'm positive," she heard Rachel tell Santana to come to the phone and talk to her Nana. She knew that Santana would not willingly come to the phone if she was in trouble, "Rachel tell her if she isn't on the phone in two seconds I will personally paddle her behind when I come over tonight.

"Hi, Nana," she heard a bashful sounding Santana say into the telephone.

"How old are you, Santana?" the older brunette asked softly.

"I'm 10, Nana, you know that," the young Latina said with attitude.

"Yes, I do know that which is why I'm wondering what you are doing jumping on the furniture and talking back to you mother for?"

There was dead silence on the phone line, "Santana, I asked you a question, young lady. I would like an answer," Shelby said in her best, strict Nana voice.

"I'm a ninja, and I was showing Quinnie how to fight bad guys cuz she totally sucks as a ninja!" Santana explained sincerely.

Shelby sighed and relented at the adorable response, "Sweet pea, Mommy is having a really hard day today. Do you think you can settle down and listen to her for the rest of the day? I promise if you do, I will take you and Quinn for ice cream."

Santana groaned loudly as if Shelby had just asked her to sacrifice her favorite stuffed animal, "I s'pose. Even ninja's need to learn to be sneaky quiet, I guess I can practice that."

Shelby held back a laugh, "Indeed they do, my darling and your Mommy can really use a break right about now. Can you put Quinn on the phone for me?"

She heard Santana clear her throat, "Nana?"

"Yes, darling?"

"Am I still gettin' a spankin' when you come over tonight?"

Shelby modulated her voice back to a more business like tone, "That depends on you, Santana Maria. If I get there and your mommy says that Quinn behaved and you didn't then I guess she gets ice cream and you get a spanking. Do you understand what I'm saying?"

"Yes, Nana. I promise, I'll behave so good you won't believe it!"

The older woman smiled in adoration, "Well I certainly can't wait to get there tonight and hear all about your day listening and obeying your mommy, sweet pea. I love you; try to be more of an angel than a ninja today, alright?"

Santana scoffed disdainfully, "Yuck, I don't want to be a stupid angel but I will be a quiet ninja. I love you too, Nana, bye!"

"Good girl, now please put Quinn on the phone for me," Shelby rolled her eyes and shook her head. Even mini-Santana was a stubborn handful.

"Hi, Nana. Santi said you wanted to talk to me?"

"Hi, Quinn. How are you doing today, pumpkin?" Shelby asked lovingly, "are you behaving?"

"I guess, Santi wants me to play ninja's with her but I wanted to read the Harry Potter book. I think playing ninja's is just going to make mommy angry, don't you?" Quinn said sweetly.

"Well, playing loud ninja's will probably make her angry, but Santana promised to play quiet ninja's for the rest of the day," Shelby explained.

"Ha!" Quinn snorted, "Santi doesn't know how to play quiet anything!"

Shelby laughed out loud, "You may be right, but she promised since I think your mommy is having a bad day today."

"Mommy is sad today."

"I know, pumpkin but Nana is going to help her feel better. Can you help Santana be good today, and I'll take you both for ice cream when I come over later?"

"Nana, as long as it helps mommy feel better, I will help. You don't have to buy me anything. I love mommy and I hate seeing her so sad," the blonde said sweetly showing her sensitive, loving nature to Shelby.

"Don't you worry, Quinn. Nana is going to fix everything. Now be a good girl, and help Santana stay out of trouble today, ok?"

"I will, love you Nana."

Shelby smiled into the phone, "I love too, sweetheart. Tell mommy I will be coming over later. Bye, Quinn."

"Bye bye, Nana. See you later, alligator."

The older brunette laughed out loud again, "after while, crocodile!" Shelby held the cell phone to her chest as tears filled her eyes. She had to find a way to reverse this spell, but first she needed to deal with Cassandra July.

Shelby strode angrily down the hallway, the heels on her expensive shoes clicking purposively. Her conversation with a very depressed Rachel had left her icy cold with rage. Shelby might not be able to fix the spell yet, but she could do something about the familiar blonde currently tormenting her daughter. She stopped momentarily to glance at the gold-plated sign on the wall; Carmen Tibideaux, Dean of Vocal Performance and Song Interpretation. The tall brunette rolled her eyes fondly, Carmen was a good friend but she was always so stiff, rigid, and cold. Everything had to be perfect and precise, and while Shelby understood Carmen only wanted her students to leave NYADA prepared to be the best; she didn't have to walk around like she had a stick up her ass.

Pushing her way into the office, Shelby was stopped by Carmen's assistant, a long-suffering, gay man who held a great deal of power based on his position, and was not used to being questioned, "I'm sorry, Ms. Tibideaux is too busy for visitors today, Ms. Corcoran. Perhaps if you made an appointment next time….."

"Don't dick me around, Roger, I need to see Carmen and it has to be today. I don't have time to deal with your ego," Shelby spat forcefully, equally unaccustomed to being told no. She continued towards Carmen's inner door.

Roger snapped the cap on his pen, slammed it down on his desk, and exhaled forcefully before standing slowly to deal with one Shelby Corcoran, diva extraordaire at least in his opinion, and he'd known her since she was a student. He moved to block her path.

Shelby merely crossed her arms irritably across her chest, and raised an eyebrow to her hairline at his actions and prepared for battle.

The door to Carmen's inner-office slammed open startling both Roger and Shelby, "It's alright, Roger, I was expecting Shelby," The intimidating woman turned to Shelby and ushered her into her office, "It seems we have much to discuss, Shelby," the stately woman had decided to intervene before there was bloodshed.

The brunette made her way to one of the comfortable chairs across from a large, ornate oak desk and sat down, crossing her legs, and smoothing her skirt neatly, "Indeed we do. I'm not going to let that fucking bitch, Cassandra July fail my daughter for the great sin of being my daughter!"

Carmen held her hand up to signal Shelby to stop while she walked over to a mini-fridge in the corner of her office, "Can I get you something to drink, Shelby?" she asked politely. No matter what crisis was brewing, Carmen Tibideaux believed in proper manners first.

Shelby huffed in impatience but asked for a bottle of water. It certainly wasn't Carmen's fault that Cassandra July had a vendetta against Rachel. She waited until the dignified woman grabbed the drinks and made her way gracefully back to her desk. Shelby knew Carmen was taking her good old time to annoy her, and a small smile played at the corner of her mouth. She accepted the cold water graciously and waited for Carmen to begin the conversation.

The older woman peered imperiously over her glasses as she glared at Shelby, "It wasn't necessary to talk to Roger like that, Shelby. It was rude and uncalled for. I expect better from you of all people."

Shelby actually squirmed a little in chair at the dressing down she got, and realized she felt just like the young college student she had been when she attended NYADA in her late teen years. Then she remembered who she was, and got angry, "I'm not your damn student anymore, Carmen, and you're not my mother. I don't need a lecture about how to talk to a damned assistant. As a matter of fact, I'm a forty year old mother and I don't need to take his shit, which he gives me every time I come here!" The brunette took a breath trying to steady her nerves. Shelby hated how petulant and whiny she sounded.

Shelby realized she was on the verge of a meltdown between Rachel, her girlfriends reverting to children, and now Cassie July, the ghost from her past.

She lowered her tone and volume and looked in Carmen's dark, serious eyes, "I came here about a serious matter, Carmen and it has me very upset. Cassandra July has been continuously bullying my child since she met Rachel, and now she's threatening to have her expelled. Jesus Christ, Carmen... you know she's picking on Rachel to get back at me! It's unfair not to mention unethical, and I don't know how you allow it in your school," Shelby demanded angrily, "Rachel is one of the most talented young people at this school, and you know it!"

Carmen sighed, "She's also spoiled, selfish, and a diva! Not unlike another extremely talented young woman I met many years ago," she scolded as she glared at her former student, "I know it was you that invented that diva storm out that Rachel has perfected," she muttered irritably. If anyone could crack the professional's smooth veneer it was Shelby Corcoran and Rachel Berry.

Shelby felt a small smile tug at the corner of her mouth, "Believe me, Carmen, I have tried to smooth out some of my daughter's rough spots, but some of them are genetic and I'm not sure what to do about those."

Carmen snorted in a most undignified manner, "Do tell, Shelby, do tell. I suppose it's her fathers' she gets these genetic rough spots from?"

Shelby relaxed and teased playfully, "but of course, we both know I'm perfect."

The older woman cracked an extremely rare, genuine smile and nodded sagely, "As am I, Ms. Corcoran," she cleared her throat and was immediately back in professional mode, "I have issues with Cassandra's methods, but I think it's good preparation for Rachel for when she actually leaves the school and moves on with her career. As you said, Rachel is incredibly talented, and she is used to being the most talented person in her group. I don't imagine Ohio was much of a challenge for her. As much as I dislike Cassandra's teaching methods personally, she challenges Rachel personally and professionally," she held up her hand forcefully when Shelby attempted to interrupt, "that being said, her attempt to have Rachel expelled was petty and uncalled for. Rest assured Rachel will be given every opportunity to make up what she has missed in every class, and was never in any danger of being expelled," she stood to signal this meeting was over.

Shelby stood awkwardly but leaned over and kissed Carmen on the cheek, "Thank you, I guess I went all mama bear there for a minute."

"You think?" Carmen adjusted her glasses and walked Shelby into the hallway, "I will see you at the fundraiser on New Year's Eve," she demanded rather than asked and Shelby nodded meekly. If anyone had the ability to make her feel like a naughty child it was her mentor and friend, Carmen Tibideaux.

"Cassandra?" Shelby asked quickly.

"I will be speaking to her, again," Carmen said coldly. She really disliked the blonde woman, but felt she was too talented to fire.

Shelby nodded brusquely, "Thank you," the younger brunette turned her emerald eyes to an obviously insulted and angry Roger, "I apologize for the way I spoke to you earlier, Roger. I was out of line, and it was completely unacceptable."

Roger nodded slightly acknowledging the apology, even if he made no move to be quick to accept it. Shelby grimaced knowing she was going to have to shell out some money for an apology present to get back in his good graces. She quickly removed herself from Carmen's office and the unpleasant atmosphere.

Shelby headed to Rachel's locker. Her daughter had asked her to pick up a few things she needed over the holiday break since she was going to the school. She sensed Cassandra before she saw her, and turned to glare at the blonde.

Cassandra July smirked at Shelby before sauntering towards her dance studio swaying her hips enticingly leaning on her ever present cane.

Her actions infuriated Shelby, "how dare she treat my daughter like shit, and then try to eye fuck me in the hallway?" she fumed to herself. Grabbing Rachel's books she shoved them into her bag and stormed for the dance studio. She had had enough of Cassandra July's shit.

-0-0-0-0-0-0-

Cassandra was stretching at the barre wearing a skintight sky blue leotard with white tights and a black lace wraparound skirt. She had one leg up on the barre and was bent over showing off her assets to their greatest advantage. The sexy blonde was waiting for Shelby Corcoran to show up. Cassandra was supremely confident she was going to storm into the dance studio to accost her, and if she was honest with herself, the thought made her belly tight, and her center moist. It was the only chance she had, and she was determined to position herself in the most provocative way possible. She wanted Shelby Corcoran's attention again, and this was why she had been pushing that little Jewish American Princess since she first started her class. She knew eventually Shelby would confront her, and she knew the key to seeing her ex-girlfriend again was one Rachel Barbra Berry.

Cassandra slowly drew herself up, and rolled her back slowly into an arch. She glanced in the mirror, and crystal clear, azure eyes met the smoldering emerald glare of Shelby Anne Corcoran. An angry Shelby was a sexy Shelby, and Cassandra July felt a white hot jolt of desire strike her core. She hated the bitch, but nobody could make her cum like the green-eyed beauty could. Moving sinuously like a large predatory cat, she unhooked her ankle, and slowly turned to meet the angry woman in front of her, "Well, well, well look who deigned to join me? It's the Wicked Witch of the West! Be careful, Shelbs someone might drop a house on you!" she smirked as she made the opening salvo.

A single, perfectly manicured eyebrow lifted majestically; either in amusement or derision Cassandra couldn't tell, "Seriously, Crazy July?! Wizard of Oz references? Pathetic!"

"Don't call me that!" Cassandra spit out angrily as Shelby shrugged smoothly pleased she had drawn first blood, "my apologies, Cassie."

Cassandra chewed her bottom lip aggressively. She was used to terrorizing her students; it had been a long time that someone intimidated her. Then again, Shelby Corcoran had always intimidated her, not that she'd ever admit as much. She wanted to draw blood as well, "So what, did no-talent, little Schwimmer call mommy and send her here to complain?"

Shelby laughed scornfully, "Seriously, does my daughter threaten you that much, Cassie?"

"Please!" the blonde scoffed, "as if!"

The brunette strolled closer to the blonde, "My daughter showed more talent in her three year old ballet class than half of your class, and you know it. I knew that getting on Broadway would be tough, and the competition fierce so I let her handle you in her own way, but trying to get her expelled? That's low even for you, Cassie!"

"Schwimmer was a big fish in her little pond in Iowa, it's time she learned the cold, hard facts of life," Cassandra mocked, "she's just one of a million talented people in New York City."

"Ohio, but then you know that, don't you? Why are you trying so hard to get under my skin, hmmmm?" Shelby turned her back on the blonde and took two steps away, only to spin back around, "I finally get it, you've been torturing Rachel to get to me. You wanted me to come and confront you, didn't you?"

The sexy blonde scoffed, but Shelby saw right through her, and Cassandra July knew it. It infuriated her, and she grabbed her cane and moved quickly towards the tall brunette. Shelby was too quick for her and she grabbed the arm holding the cane and twisted it behind Cassandra's back forcing her belly first into the barre. With a snap of her fingers, the thin wooden cane disappeared from Cassandra's tight grip and magically appeared in Shelby's left hand. Shelby slipped forward, pushing her front tightly against the blonde's back.

Leaning forward, Shelby growled into Cassandra's ear, "Please give me a reason; I've always felt a good caning would do you a world of good."

The blonde felt shivers run up and down her spine at feeling Shelby's hot breath on her neck and ear, "I want you Shelby, I always have," Cassandra blurted out throwing her pride to the wind, "No one, man or woman has ever made me feel as good as you can, and I know how good I made you feel. I remember your nails leaving trenches down my back, how you mewled like a kitten while I ate you out, how you arched your back off my mattress and screamed my name, and how you wept the first time we made love. I dare you to tell me you don't remember too?"

Shelby felt herself resolve soften as she listened to Cassandra, her Cassie, husk out her memories of their most intimate moments. She leaned closer, and sucked the blonde's earlobe into her warm, moist mouth holding Cassandra tightly when she moaned out loud and wriggled in her grasp. It only lasted a moment before the beautiful brunette remembered why she was at the school today, "Of course I remember, I loved you but you destroyed it just you like you destroy everything; with your anger, you bitterness, and your petty selfish behavior. You ruined my love for you just like you ruined your place in the coven. You sabotaged our life together, the same way you sabotaged your career. Sadly, you have nothing I want ever again," Shelby abruptly pulled back and away from the blonde in front of her.

Cassandra gasped at the shock of Shelby's words and the loss of the physical contact she had no idea she craved so desperately, "You love me!" she screamed accusatorily as she watched Shelby walk towards the exit.

"Loved, as in past tense, Cassie," she turned to look back at the dancer, "If you wanted to talk to me so badly all you had to do was pick up the phone. You're one of Rachel's teachers, of course I would have spoken to you, but instead you had to play mind games, just like you've always done in the past. God, you had so much potential; as a dancer, singer, witch, lover but you threw it all away. I can see you're a miserable, spiteful bitch and you have no one to blame but yourself," she raised her hand and let the cane fall to the floor, "I spoke to Carmen; there will be no hearing and Rachel won't be expelled from NYADA. You lose, Cassie just as you always have."

Not one to give up easily, the blonde hissed menacingly, "If you walk away from me again, I swear to Christ I will make Rachel miserable every single day of her pathetic existence!"

Shelby sighed and turned back to face the blonde. She stalked towards the blonde gravely, and was extremely gratified to see her ex-lover swallow loudly and take a step backwards. Grabbing her shoulders, Shelby shoved the women backwards until she was up against a wall. Leaning in perilously close to Cassandra's face and whispered harshly, "If Rachel comes home one more time, and even hints that you have been anything but professional with her, I will change you into a little white mouse with pink eyes and a hairless tail. I will put you in a cage on top of my dresser where I can watch you spin endlessly and furtively on that little wheel until you drop dead of exhaustion and boredom. Do you need a little sample of what it would feel like to be a tiny, insignificant rodent, Cassie?" Shelby raised her arms above her head and the room became deathly still. The overhead lights flickered, and lightening seemed to flash in the angry, emerald eyes in front of her, as the wall to Cassandra's back shook and the floor beneath her quaked.

"N n n no, Shelby. I don't want to be a mouse. I'll be professional," the blonde replied terrified by the display of Shelby's powers. The brunette had always been dramatic and passionate, but never as powerful as she seemed to be now. Once she had been asked to leave the coven, she resentfully quit studying majick of any kind but she knew Shelby was a big deal in the community. The blonde had no doubt that Shelby would follow through on her threat.

Shelby dropped her arms, and the room returned to normal. Cassandra closed her eyes, and opened them rapidly amazed at the instantaneous transformation in the small dance studio.

"Goodbye, Cassandra," Shelby said coldly as she took her leave.

"Holy fuck," Cassandra July said nervously glad to have escaped living her remaining days as the powerful witch's pet.

Shelby knocked loudly on the apartment door hoping to be heard over the blare of the television set, 'how are these three not deaf?' she wondered to herself as she pounded louder. Smiling to herself she heard the scrambling of feet and the cries of Santana.

"Nana, Nana; Quinn, mommy, Nana is here!" she pulled the door open violently standing in the doorway with a huge grin on her face, "I was sooooo good, ask mommy!"

Shelby swept into the room and gathered the beaming Latina into her arms, "Well done, sweet pea! I knew I could count on you," she rubbed her hands up and down the caramel skinned child's back as Santana wriggled in her arms like an excited puppy. She was thrilled to have her Nana's approval. It was really hard to be a quiet ninja, but she wanted ice cream not a spanking tonight.

Shelby looked up and winked at a grinning Quinn who was holding a thick book in her arms against her chest, "Did you get a chance to read yet?"

Quinn rolled her eyes, "With Santana, the ninja around? Of course not, Nana," she smirked at her sister, "but I will admit she was good since you called earlier."

Rachel walked into the room looking tired and haggard. She had circles under her eyes, and wore an aura of doom, "Quinn's right, mama. Santana was a different little girl than she was this morning."

The little brunette pulled back quickly, smiling up at her Nana wickedly, "told ya I was a good girl, can we go get ice cream now, can we Nana, please?"

The tiny blonde interjected her sentiments as well, "You promised; Santana was good and I helped. Please, Nana?"

Shelby laughed delightfully, "Well how can I resist such heartbreaking pouts? Go get your shoes and coats on, and we'll go get some ice cream," she watched as the two little girls tore out of the room eager to obey. They didn't care at all that it was December and below freezing outside; they wanted their ice cream. Walking carefully over to the couch her daughter had plopped down on, she sat down gingerly next to her diva, "Rachel, you need to come with us."

"I'd rather stay home and rest, Mama. I'm tired and I have a headache," Rachel said in a tone more muted and flat than Shelby had ever heard from her daughter before.

Shelby slung her arm over her daughter's shoulder, and glanced back to make sure the two little girls were still out of the room, "Not even if I tell you how I threatened to turn Cassandra July into a hairless, pink mouse?"

Rachel nearly sprained her neck turning to look at her mama so quickly, "No, fuc, effing way!"

Her mother raised an eyebrow sternly at the near slip before smiling gently, "I did, and she knows I meant it too. I spoke to Ms. Tibideaux as well, darling. She agrees that Cassandra July crossed a line with you. There will be no hearing, and no expulsion. I would even be willing to bet that Ms. July starts treating you a bit more professionally, although I wouldn't expect miracles from her."

Rachel's milk chocolate eyes welled with unspilled tears as she threw herself into her mother's arms, sobbing, "Oh my god, I can't believe it. I was just heartbroken at the thought of having to leave NYADA and disappointing you again!"

Shelby comforted her daughter, rocking her back and forth, "Oh baby, you are NOT a disappointment to me, and you never could be. I love you so much. Yes, I'm upset about the spell you cast but we will fix it and you will be punished as soon as this mess is over with, but you have taken on the full responsibility of caring for two little girls without a second thought. I am so proud of you, honestly I am," she cooed in Rachel's ear as she held her close.

"I'm just sick with worry about Quinn and Santana, Mama. I love them so much, I miss them so much; I will take a hundred paddling's if it would bring them back to me," she hiccupped sadly as she sniffed loudly and wiped her nose on her mother's shoulder. Shelby grimaced and shook her head as she thought of her cashmere sweater before quickly dismissing it. Rachel and her feelings were way more valuable than a stupid sweater.

"I know you are, darling but we WILL fix this, together. Have you ever known me to make a promise and break it?" She felt rather than saw Rachel shake her head, "That's right, and I don't intend to start now," she heard the little girls heading back towards the living room, so she kissed Rachel on her head, "Now go fix your face and pull yourself together while I take my favorite granddaughters for ice cream. I'll bring you back something special, but only if you cheer up!"

Rachel hugged both girls tightly as they clamored for her attention. She smothered them both with kisses while the girls tried to squirm out of her grasp. Santana scowled and muttered, "Gross!" while Quinn tried to clandestinely wipe the sloppy kiss from her mommy off her cheek. Rachel laughed good naturedly and shooed them towards their Nana, "Go have fun, brats!"

Shelby had a moment to brace herself before both little girls barreled into her, "You ok?" she mouthed, still more than concerned with Rachel's earlier demeanor.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Go have fun. I'll see you when you get back," she waved as Shelby ushered the girls out the door, "Mama?" Rachel called out as Shelby turned to look back at her, "Did you really threaten to turn Ms. July into a mouse?"

Shelby made a cross over her heart with her index finger, "Witches honor!" she smirked and walked out the door.

Rachel laughed out loud, feeling better than she had this entire week.

Well there it is, Day 7 and the girls are still aging. I'd like to finish this as soon as possible, who knows? Maybe we'll have Christmas in July.

Drop me a line and let me know what you thought of this chapter! Thanks for reading.
