We are two days into our journey. We make camp next to a river in the shelter of some tall Willow trees. Katara roasts some fish over the fire. It smells good long before it's done.

Zuko sits beside me. "How far is your birthplace?" He asks.

"It's about five days away from here," I answer.

Just then, I hear a branch snap. We all turn to look towards the sound. I see what looks like two eyes peeking out of the bushes.

"Who's there!" I call. The one who is watching us comes out. I can see that he is no human or a threat. It's a wolf pup. Its fur is grey like storm clouds. "Hello, young pup! Why are you here?" I speak to the pup.

He whimpers and tries to lead us back through the bushes. We follow. There, we see the cause of the young pup's distress. His mother is lying dead in the grass, her paw caught in a trap. Two other healthy pups are beside her. There is another male, grey like the first, and a female pup of white fur. Both males have green eyes while the female has blue eyes.

I go to the pups and try to calm them. "Come with me, little ones. I can't help your mother, but I can help you," I coax them.

They follow us when I call them. At our next camp spot, I speak to the pups. "You need names. How about Storm, Fleet, and Ice?" The pups yip in agreement.

I feed them some meat. Zuko turns to me. "That was nice of you, what you did for the wolf pups."

"They were helpless! I wasn't about to just leave them there!" I exclaim. The pups come out and start licking my face. "Hahaha! Quit it! That tickles!" I laugh.

After all of our excitement, Zuko, Katara, the pups, and I lay down and fall fast asleep.
