Chapter 7: Blood and PB&J

~Cole's POV~

We couldn't keep up with her. She was practically flying above the rooftops, going at least 30 mph.

"Asami!" Lloyd called. "Wait! We can't keep up with you when you fly like that!" he spoke, reaching into my head and putting my thoughts into words.

She put on the brakes so fast she (surprisingly) cracked a few of the roof tiles.

She looked back with her hands nervously reaching into her pockets.

"Hehe, sorry!" She shouted with a forced chuckle. "It's a habit, I guess," she shrugged, trying to hide her sadness.

Thankfully, I didn't think Lloyd noticed. It probably would have made him upset, too.

I smiled back and we caught up to her, then headed to the park in silence.

~Jay's POV~

He jabbed me in the arm and twisted the scalpel counterclockwise, shooting pain throughout my right arm. I let out a scream and growled, trying to keep the tears out of my eyes. Wearily, I managed to pull his hand away along with the scalpel. He struck again, and if I hadn't dodged, he would have gotten more than my shirt.

It was already difficult for me to move, and if he hadn't pushed my wheelchair out from under me, I could have already outrun him or taken the scalpel away. He was still moving pretty slow, due to his back and arm, but he was still Kai. I had been trying to get to my wheelchair when he cut my leg and the blade actually hit my bone.

I regained my balance and tried to get behind him. Unfortunately, he REALLY didn't want me to take him back to the hospital. He was acting crazy.

I didn't have time to figure out why because he went for my arm again. He missed and I remembered I had something that I could contact The Bounty with. It was a little miniature walkie talkie that I had left in my pocket from a few days ago.

I hastily pulled it out and pressed the button.

"Hello?" I spoke.

Kai got me in the stomach, but the bandages kept it from going in too far.

"Is anyone there?" my voice cracked as I dodged another strike.

"Jay?" it was Garmadon's voice

"Sensei," I paused to sidestep the scalpel, "I'm in trouble. Can you get Asami?

It made me feel a little a little nervousness asking for Asami, almost ridiculous, after what had happened yesterday. But I need to regain her trust if we're going to be living under the same roof.

"Y-yes," he stammered. "I will return in a moment."

I gasped as I had to suddenly evade Kai's blade, which grazed my right side.

"C'mon, c'mon," I mumbled under my breath as I anxiously waited for a response.

He jabbed me again, this time in the left arm. He pulled the scalpel out quickly and stuck it in a second time, an inch or so away from the first cut. I screamed and my heart beat accelerated.

I looked beyond Kai for a moment to find some people staring. Fortunately, it was still pretty early in the morning, almost 8:00 AM, so there weren't many people walking outside. Several joggers had passed by, but they had all been listening to music, unaware of the broken ninja with a scalpel.

I felt the cold blade as it was stabbed into my torso, right next to the arrow wound. That area of my skin was still bruised and tender, making the cut even more painful. I let out a piercing cry, drawing even more unwanted attention to myself. Kai yanked it out in a spiral motion, and I fell to one knee grasping my side.

I was sweating now, and a single tear trailed down my cheek.

The pain in my side was diminishing, so I slowly stood up, my left hand still lightly resting on my stomach. I had to keep myself from getting too angry and frustrated, or I could set up my own defeat. That's what Sensei Wu always said.

I flinched as I heard my Walkie-Talkie beep.

"Jay? It's Asami."

I responded almost immediatley.

"Asami?! Oh thank GOD!" I was so relieved to hear her voice.

"Ok, I REEEAALLYYY nee-," my finger slipped off the button as I moved to try and evade the scalpel, which lightly cut my arm

"Jay?" I heard her voice grow louder. "JAY!?"

I dodged another attack and pressed the button.

"Hey, sorry. He got me with his knife." I said through the microphone.

"What's going on? Are you ok?!" she said with concern.

"Oh, uh, yeah. Well, no, actually, I need some help. Kai got out of the hospital somehow, even though his arm is in a sling and he has a cast around his torso, I don't even know how that could have been possible, but knowing Kai..." I paused.

"Ok, so Kai has a knife?"

"Oh, yeah. It's a scalpel, really. He open Zane's chest panel and cut on of his wires and he's just lying on the grass." I explained

I grunted as he sliced my cheek.

"And now," my voice tense, "I'm trying to get Kai back to the hospital, but I haven't even been able to dodge most of his attacks. His determination and strength are extremely unbelievable for someone with his injuries. AGH!" I screamed.

Kai had struck me in the thigh.

"Are you ok!?" she asked.

"Yeah," I lied, "that one was just a little deep.

"W-Where are you guys!?"

"We're at the park. Hurry! And bring Cole and Lloyd, it might help calm him down."

I was afraid to admit I would need their help, I'm not really sure why. Maybe embarrassment?

"Okay." she said calmly.

Hurry my mind said.

I side-stepped to avoid another hit.

Please I finished my thought.

~Cole's POV~

I flipped of the last building, kicking up dust, and Lloyd followed suit.

Asami just kinda jumped down and shooed the cloud of dirt away.

"So," Lloyd said, "where is he?"

We took a moment to look around when Asami shouted down at us from a tree.

"Guys! I found him!"

"How'd you get up there so fast?" I questioned.

She just shrugged.

"I've gotten pretty used to this wind thing. I just use it as a boost, I guess." she hypothesized.

"So um, which way are they?" I asked.

"Down there," she pointed a little to the right.

She climbed back down and swung of the last branch, landing with a thud.

"C'mon," she started to run.

We followed her until we were in a close enough distance to see what was happening, in which we ran faster.

"Jay!" I called.

He looked over his shoulder and smiled, then gasped and fell to his knees.

"JAY!" Asami yelled.

She kneeled down next to him and she started to shake.

I dropped next to her and examined the wound.

"Asami, get behind Kai and hold his wheelchair," I ordered. "Lloyd, get the scalpel out of Kai's hands."

Asami stood up and held the handles of Kai's wheelchair while Lloyd tried to obtain the scalpel.

I looked at Jay's stomach, visible through the holes in his shirt. I ripped it opened and examined the cuts, and there was fresh blood where he had just been cut. In his arrow wound. It was gushing out blood and was giving off a faint smell of iron. Tears were flowing out of his eyes and he began to shiver, at the same time turning pale.

I looked up and saw that Lloyd has successfully taken the scalpel away from Kai.

"GIMME BACK MY BANANA!" Kai commanded.

Asami found it as a good time to curse, "What. The. Fuck."

There was something seriously wrong with Kai. But right then, I was concerned with getting Kai and Jay to the hospital.

"Lloyd, go get Jay's wheelchair."

I had seen Zane working on it, so I had to figure it was Jay's.

Lloyd nodded and ran to retrieve it. I had taken what remained of Jay's shirt and had warped it around his stomach, putting pressure on the gash.

Lloyd had returned seconds later. We helped Jay into the wheelchair and I went to pick up Zane.

"I should probably take him back to The Bounty," I suggested, "I'll meet you at the hospital in the cafeteria."

They agreed and we went our separate ways.

I walked away as Lloyd and Asami pushed Kai and Jay to the hospital.

~Lloyd's POV~

I held the door open as Asami struggled to get Kai in. He wouldn't keep still, and he kept yelling the most random things.

"Stooooooopppppppppp! Let me run away, I need to find my horse, ha, haha."

Then he would just laugh. He just sounded REALLY drunk and angry, even though he was underaged.

The nurses noticed us walking in and a few of them hastily made their way over to Kai.

He started to rant to them about bananas again, but they just sighed and shook their heads.

One named Ariana had explained to us that he was all loopy from the drugs they had to give him, and that he may have accidentally gotten an overdose. Her eyes glanced over to one of the other nurses, a young male. I then heard Asami say something, but I was too busy listening. Ariana continued to inform that this was only his second week on the job and he had misread the amount of drugs he had to give to Kai. He averted her eyes and focused his attention to the floor.

Asami had tried to get their attention again, but was interrupted by Ariana.

"We'll take it from here. Stacy, Rose," She called over two other nurses and they began to escort Kai back to his room when Asami became fed up.

"HELLLLOOO," she exclaimed, drawing attention to a limp Jay. All the nurses gasped and one of them shrieked.

"There is a teenage boy bleeding to death and you have FAILED to notice until now! HONESTLY! WHAT KIND OF NURSES ARE YOU?!" she was real pissed off now.

Kai was so loud and obnoxious that no one noticed Jay, who by now had painted half his shirt red.

He was passed out and his breathing was shaky. He was a horrifying pale and some more nurses immediately rushed him to general surgery.

It turns out the cut did more than re-open the first one. Kai had also managed to cut his muscles in half. Before they had just been ruptured and Sensei Wu fixed them with a healing agent.

He also had to be treated for his other scalpel-induced injuries, as multiple were much too deep for comfort.

We had been waiting in the cafeteria for half an hour now.

I had scarfed down a PB&J that had way too much peanut butter, not enough jelly, and really crappy bread. It was just gross overall.

Asami hadn't eaten anything, she just sipped on her soda through her straw.

I felt someone tap on my shoulder and I jumped in my chair. I looked over my shoulder, but no one was there.

I looked back to the front and went to grab my sandwich when it was gone. I looked up at Asami and I saw her looking to her right of me, covering her mouth, trying not to laugh.

I looked to my left and saw Cole eating my sandwich.

"Nice to see you too," I raised an eyebrow.

I didn't really care he took my sandwich, it was bland and tasteless.

He finished it off and sighed through his nose.

"Garmadon is gonna try to fix Zane's wire," he said, "but he's gonna wait for Jay to replace it."

"So what, he's just gonna fix it with some electrical tape?" Asami asked sarcastically.

Cole responded, "Well, yeah."

"Seriously? Wouldn't it come off at some point?"

"I'ts temporary. I said, he's gonna wait for Jay to replace it. But for now, this is the best he can do."

We sat in silence for a few moments until Asami spoke up.

"Should we go see Wu?"

"Yeah. We should," I agreed.

Cole stood up in agreement and we all walked out of the cafeteria together.
