I only own Rebekah, her family and Kathryn in this story.
Chapter 7 Best Friend Outing
Beep. Beep. Beep.
Rebekah walked out of the bathroom and turned off the alarm. She looked over her friend AJ and chuckled.
"It's not funny. You know most of us actually like having some sleep," AJ groaned as she opened her eyes. It was too early to glare at her friend so she rolled her eyes instead.
"This coming from the person who chooses to stay up all hours of the night watching various cartoons," Rebekah said putting her hands on her hips.
"Hey you do it to. How you manage to get up so damn early I will never know," AJ said sitting up on the bed. There was no use in going back to sleep especially since she was already awake. Rebekah simply shrugged and looked at AJ. Rebekah was up an hour before her alarm went off. She had showered and was getting ready for the day. She had on a t-shirt and jeans. She put on her tennis shoes and did her hair and makeup. Her hair was naturally curly so she put it up in a simple ponytail.
"I think your phone is going off," AJ yelled at her friend. Rebekah walked out of the bathroom.
"The bathroom is all yours," the British native said as she picked up her phone.
"Okay. Thanks," AJ said before going through her duffel bag.
"Looks like Randy wants to hang out today."
"Just the two of you or is anyone else going?"
"Umm I do believe it is just the two of us. He said something about needing a best friend day."
"Cool. Well you two have fun."
"Yeah, don't know how much fun we will have. Remember he is still mad at me."
"Only because you slugged his girlfriend. I am sure that he will forgive you for it, I mean after all you two are really close."
"True. I am sure that is what his true intentions are today."
"Look the sooner you two speak about this the better off the two of you will be. Then you can go back to normal and pretend nothing ever happened," AJ said shrugging her shoulders. She knew that Randy and Rebekah were close and she doubted anything would ever come between then.
"You saw the look on his face that night though."
"He looked torn between his best friend and his fiancé. Who wouldn't be torn at something like that especially if both of them are the same sex? Kathryn is just insecure and it makes it rough on Randy which in turn will make it rougher on you as well."
"I don't have this problem with any of the other guys. Kristen and Liz don't hate me and I hang out with Ted and John all the time. Kristen and Liz understand that I am no threat to them. They know that I am only friends with Ted and John and nothing more will happen. Why can't Kathryn see that?"
"Kathryn is selfish remember? She wants Randy to all to herself. She doesn't understand that you come in the package deal. You may not like Randy the same way and vice versa but you and John are his best friends. If Kathryn can't see that then she is in for a rude awakening," AJ said causing Rebekah to laugh.
"I think she already knows that from the other night," Rebekah said as she looked at AJ.
"Maybe. Maybe not. With Kathryn you can never be too sure. The only thing I can say is watch your back when it comes to Kathryn. Everyone knows she is psycho and unpredictable."
"That may be true but I guarantee that she hasn't dealt with anyone like me before," Rebekah said winking at her friend. AJ laughed and shook her head.
"Nope, that is for damn sure. Well I am going to get ready since I am up for the day anyway. I guess I will see you later on. Have fun with Randal," AJ said before closing the bathroom door.
"I will. You stay out of trouble as well," Rebekah yelled only to hear laughter. She shrugged her shoulders as a knock on the door brought her back from her thoughts.
"I'm coming," she yelled as the knocking continued. She headed over toward the door and opened it. "Well hello Randal," she said as she stepped off to the side. Randy smiled as he entered the room. Rebekah shut the door and turned around to face him.
"Hello Rebekah. Since we are hanging out today I was wondering if you would like to grab a quick breakfast before we headed out today." he asked as he faced her.
"Sounds good to me. What all will we be doing today?" she asked him.
"All I am going to tell you is that you will like it."
"Oh, a surprise huh?"
"Of course."
"Ugh. You know I hate surprises." Rebekah put her hand on her hips and glared at him.
"To bad you don't have a choice. Now hurry up. I am starving."
"Well let me grab a few things and we can head out for breakfast," she said grabbing her phone and hotel key. She grabbed her wallet and jacket just in case. "I'm ready when you are."
"Shall we?" he asked as he opened the hotel door. She smiled and walked out of the room. They headed towards the elevator in silence. She was nervous, which was something she rarely was around Randy was. She was waiting for him to flip out on her or to distance himself around her. So far Randy was only being himself. She wondered how long it would last. She got in the elevator and he pushed the button. Rebekah bit her bottom lip nervously. Once the doors opened she walked out and looked around. If it was later in the day more people would be up and about but since it was barely even eight she figured it would be empty. She shrugged her shoulders and followed Randy to the hotel breakfast area. She grabbed a plate and loaded it up with biscuits and gravy with eggs.
"Where would you like to sit?" he asked her.
"Anywhere is fine with me," she said as she watched him pick a seat. She followed him and sat down. She started eating wonder when they would talk about the other night. She noticed that he would take a few bites and then push the food around on his plate.
"Is everything ok?" she asked, her voice full of concern.
"Just thinking is all."
"We have all day to talk about it," she said taking another bite.
"I know. I just don't want to talk about it right now."
"Okay. Well you know I am here for you," Rebekah said as she continued to eat her meal in silence. He nodded his head and took a few more bites. She was willing to give him some space if that is what he wanted. They continued to eat in silence.
"Hey Rebekah. Randy," Ted said as he made his way over to the table. John and Cody followed.
"Hey guys. What are you up to?" Rebekah asked as she got up and threw her plate away.
"Not much. Just figured we could use some breakfast," Cody said.
"Ah. The breakfast here is decent but then again biscuits and gravy with eggs is usually a good meal no matter what," Rebekah said with a smile.
"True. So what are you two up to?" John asked taking a seat.
"Well we were just about to leave actually," Randy said standing up to throw his plate away.
"Oh? And where are you two off to?" Ted asked as he started filling his plate up.
"I'm not even sure. It's a surprise," Rebekah said with a shrug.
"Oh. I bet you hate that," Cody said putting gravy on his biscuits. It was a well known fact among her friends that she hated surprises.
"I do indeed. Surprises never work out well for me," Rebekah said.
"Since the suspense is probably killing you do you want to go ahead and leave?" Randy asked locking eyes with Rebekah. She loved his blue eyes. She could get lost in them for hours.
"Sure. See you guys later," Rebekah said with a smile.
"Wait, no hug?" Ted asked as he looked over at her.
"You have your hands full Mr. DiBiase so how am I supposed to hug you?" Rebekah asked raising her eyebrow.
"Like this," he said putting his plate down on the table and wrapped his arms around her. He pulled her close and hugged her.
"You're such a teddy bear," Rebekah said as she hugged him tight.
"That's the point. Who could resist hugging me," Ted said with a smirk.
"Ego much?"
"Just stating a fact." Rebekah shook her head at him once she pulled away.
"You're too much you know that?" Rebekah asked.
"You know you love it," Ted said as he winked at her.
"Unfortunately I do. Are you coming or what Randal?" Rebekah asked as she seen Randy and John talking. Randy nodded her way and said bye to the guys. The two them headed out to Randy's rental car. Once inside she put on her seat belt while Randy started up the car and put on his seat belt.
"Since you are driving do I get to control the music or do you?" she asked. Normally when she drove she let the person sitting up front with her control the music. She liked just about anything so she didn't have too much of a problem listening to whatever.
"I will let you pick. We listen to pretty much the same thing anyway."
"True," she said as she started messing with the radio. The best way to find music was to just go through the channels rather than picking out one single station and sticking with that. Stricken by Disturbed came on the radio. "OMG! I love this song."
You don't know what your power has done to me
I want to know if I'll heal inside
I can't go on with a holocaust about to happen
Seeing you laughing another time
You'll never know why your face has haunted me
My very soul has to bleed this time
Another hole in the wall of my inner defenses
Leaving me breathless, the reason I know
That I am stricken and can't let you go
When the heart is cold, there's no hope, and we know
That I am crippled by all that you've done
Into the abyss will I run
Randy listened as she sang along with the song. He felt like he was hearing angels sing as she continued to sing along. He felt that pieces of the song were describing how he felt. Her face has haunted him many times so much that when he closes his eyes she is the one he sees. It was no secret that he liked her but Rebekah was the only one who didn't seem to know it. He made Ted, Cody, and John swear that they wouldn't tell anyone or even tell her. He wasn't sure how she felt and he wasn't going to run their friendship if she didn't' return the feelings. He knew that eventually she would find out but he would rather him tell her then her find out from someone else.
Rebekah continued to sing along with the song. She didn't know why she loved this song so much. She just like the way the song flowed and the singer David Draiman made the song that much better. He was a really great singer in her eyes. She loved his voice. Rebekah continued to sing along to various songs on the radio until Randy parked the car in a parking lot. Rebekah looked around with a puzzled look on her face.
"Randy…uh…where are we?"
"You'll see," he said winking before he climbed out of the car. He came around and opened the door of her. She smiled and got out.
"So chivalry isn't dead?" she said smirking at him. He sent her his famous smile that would melt anyone. She looked around once more.
"Don't worry, you will like it here. I promise," he said as he motioned for her to come with him. She followed him and heard people screaming. She came to a halt.
"Randy, are you sure about this?"
"Don't you trust me?"
"Yes."
"Then what is the big deal? You know I would never put you in harm's way neither inside nor outside the ring," he said looking at her. She nodded her head and continued to follow him.
"I trust you," she said as she walked beside him. "With my life." Randy looked over and smiled at her.
"As do I. Now, let's go and have some fun shall we?" Rebekah looked at him with a puzzled look on her face until they got closer to the noise. Her face lit up as she seen what was before her.
"Oh. My. Gosh. I can't believe it. How did you know?"
"Pure luck actually. I just knew when I saw it that this is how I wanted to spend best friend time with you," he said as his face lit up as well.
"You're the best Randal, you know that?" she asked as she hugged him close.
"I know. Come on, time to have some fun," he said as he grabbed her hand and pulled her towards the noise. Rebekah was still in awe that her best friend brought her to a carnival. She was so excited.
They spent hours just riding the rides and having fun. Randy even won her a few stuffed animals. They stopped at the Ferris wheel.
"Do you want to ride it?" he asked standing close to her so she could hear him.
"Only if you can put up with me getting a little scared when we stop at the top of it."
"I will be right here so you won't get to scared," he said putting his arm around her. They waited in line for a good ten to fifteen minutes before they got onto the ride. Rebekah sighed as she secretly hated the Ferris wheel and was only riding it because he asked her. Heights weren't her thing but she didn't let it stop her from having fun. She looked around nervously and tried to keep her face away from him.
"You could have said no, you know that right?" he asked as he seen the look on her face.
"I know but I wanted to ride it with you," she said forcing a smile on her face. She sat down on the seat and watched as he sat next to her. She smiled over at him and tried not think about the ride, mainly the height of it.
"Nothing's going to happen to you while I am here," he spoke in a low deep voice. She looked up at him and smiled. She was truly glad that he was here for her.
"I will be fine once the ride starts going in circles and we stop loading and unloading people onto the ride."
"Shouldn't be too much longer now."
"You must not be afraid of anything," she said looking at him.
"I have fears just as much as the next person but heights isn't one of them. Losing people I love or something I can't control are things that I am afraid of."
"Those are pretty scary things. Fear of the unknown is scary in and of itself."
"A lot of people fear what they don't understand. It's natural to be that way."
"True," she said as the ride started up. Randy felt her relax against him.
"Better?"
"Yep."
"Good." Both of them sat there in silence not really knowing what to say.
"Randy?"
"Yeah?"
"I just wanted to say I am sorry."
"Sorry for what?" he asked not really knowing what she was apologizing for.
"The other night."
"Look Rebekah..."
"Randy, I had no right to hit Kathryn."
"But she is the one who started it."
"Even so I shouldn't have hit her. She just gets under my skin and I feel like she does is on purpose, you know?"
"Yeah, I know the feeling. Rebekah there isn't anything to be sorry for and even if there was you did apologize before you hit her so I am not mad at you. Hell I probably would have done the same thing if I was in your shoes," Randy said as he started to laugh.
"Well I just wanted to apologize. I miss hanging out with my best friend and I feel like you have been mad at me for since that night."
"Well to be honest at first I was pretty upset but the more I thought about it the less upset I actually was. If she would have said those things to me I would have reacted the same exact way. I know it may sound bad to anyone else to not take her side over yours but I have known you longer and you are my best friend so it wouldn't seem fair to me if I took her side and not yours."
"I will try not to punch her in the face anymore. Regardless of if I am your best friend or not I still should have just walked away and ignored her. I feel like a crummy best friend for doing that to you," Rebekah said as she looked over at him. He pulled her close to him.
"No matter what happens, you will always be my best friend Rebekah. That is something Kathryn will just have to get used to. I mean come on if she can't handle that then are we really going to work out?"
"I hope for your sake that you do. I want you to be happy Randal. I really do," she said hugging him the best she could on the ride.
"I know you do and I want you to be happy as well. Maybe not as happy as you were after you hit my fiancé though," Randy said with a smirk.
"You know me, I have a hell of a temper and she just lit the fuse that night," Rebekah said with a laugh.
"Very true. We both have that in common," Randy said with a wink. Before they knew it the ride was over and they were once again stuck on the top of the Ferris wheel.
"Man the sunset is beautiful," Rebekah said in awe.
"Yes it is," Randy said looking from the sunset back to Rebekah. He was just glad that everything was alright again. He wanted to let her know that no matter what she would always be his best friend. Someone who meant the world to him and regardless of if he was with Kathryn or not it wouldn't change anything.
By the time they left it was dark. They rode everything several times and even enjoyed some of the concessions. They watched a live show and seen the animals. They pretty much enjoyed everything at the carnival before they started to leave.
"Is there anything else you would like to do before we leave?" Randy asked. He wanted to make sure that she was really enjoying herself before they left.
"Nah. I think we pretty much did everything didn't we?"
"True."
"Randy?"
"Yeah."
"Thanks for bringing me here," she said with a smile on her face.
"Not a problem Rebekah. I know that you would enjoy a little relaxation after everything that was going on at work. I am just glad I was able to get your mind off things for a little while," Randy said as he pulled her in for a hug.
"You amazing, you know that?"
"Every single day," Randy said as a smirk formed on his face.
