I do not own Lilo and Stitch. Zee and Kyle Ripper are my OCs.
The Surfing Catastrophe
Zee blinked against the harsh sun and scanned the busy beach with mild annoyance. She still thought it was way too early for any life form to be up and about. She leaned back in the warm sand and glanced at the waves that Lilo expected her to ride on. "Do you have a bad feeling about this?"
Stitch, who was sitting beside her, nodded. "Oh yeah."
"And we're letting Lilo talk us into this because...?"
"Lilo very convincing." Stitch shrugged.
Speak of the devil, Zee thought as Lilo came out of the change hut and walked towards them. She tied her long black hair into a ponytail and tossed her beach bag onto her towel. "Are you guys ready for this?"
"Naga," Stitch grunted, kicking up a giant cloud of sand in protest, sending a crowd of tourists into a coughing fit as they passed by.
Lilo glared at Stitch. "You're going to be fine." She then turned to Zee. "You know, you look like you just got out of bed."
"I did," Zee snapped. But she looked down at herself to see how bad she really looked. Her muumuu was wrinkled, and her blonde hair was a tangled mess, as she hadn't bothered to comb it. "Okay, yeah. I look pretty bad." She stood up and shuffled into the change hut. She leaned against the wooden wall and focussed her energy. Soon she was dressed in a purple bikini.
Lilo glanced up when Zee emerged mere seconds later. "That's much better."
"Thanks," Zee said distractedly as she stared at the surfboard Lilo was dragging towards the water. "That is what we surf on?"
"Yeah. That's why it's called a surfboard," Lilo scoffed and stood at the edge of the water. "Well, are you guys coming?"
"I'd really rather not," Zee said. Stitch nodded in agreement.
Lilo shook her head and pushed the board into the water. She stopped when the water reached her stomach and the board could float without her holding it. "Come on!" she cried, when the two alien creations still refused to come near the water.
Stitch and Zee looked nervously at each other. Stitch stared at the tossing waves before shaking his head. "Stitch dog. Dogs naga surf."
He tried to escape but Lilo jumped from the water and grabbed his leg with surprising speed. "Stitch, you need to get over your fear of water," Lilo said firmly as she carried Stitch to the surfboard. "The ocean is just one big bath!"
"Hate baths!" Stitch complained, clinging to Lilo so that he wouldn't fall in the water. Zee inched her way forward, slightly hesitant.
"Lilo, I can't swim. Just like Stitch, the water can be harmful to me."
"We'll be fine!" Lilo insisted, placing Stitch on the surfboard.
Despite her better judgement, Zee gingerly walked into the water and climbed onto the surfboard in front of Stitch. "When we wipe out, you better be able to save the both of us."
"Ih!"
Lilo rolled her eyes. "We're not gonna wipe out!"
They began to paddle further into the ocean. "This'll be great!" Lilo tried to assure her two worried friends.
A ringing noise suddenly came from the front pocket of her swimsuit, almost startling Zee into the water. Lilo pulled a slim red device out and checked the number. She groaned. "Shoot! I forgot to tell Pleakley where I was going! Oh well. Not much he can do now. Keep paddling," she instructed and answered the space phone. "Hi, Pleakley."
"Lilo!" he cried with relief and irritation. "Where are you?!"
"I'm just at the beach with Stitch and Zee," Lilo assured him.
"Would it kill you to tell us where you're going once in a while?" Pleakley asked sternly. "Do you have any idea how it feels to find your bed empty and having no idea where you are? You nearly gave Jumba a heart attack!"
"She did not!" Jumba protested from the background. "You were one panicking and screaming like little wimpy girl. No offense to Lilo, of course."
Lilo giggled. "I'm sorry, Pleakley. I promise I won't leave the house without telling you where I'm going again. And I'll be home by lunch, I swear!"
"Well...all right," Pleakley agreed. "Make sure you put on lots of sunscreen and don't talk to strangers!"
"Yeah, yeah. I know. Bye, Pleakley." Lilo hung up and continued to help paddling, her small hands cutting through the water smoothly.
As they paddled along, Zee remembered a question she had been meaning to ask the girl. "How come Pleakley wears girl clothes?"
Lilo laughed. "He likes the feel of them. He also thinks girls have a lot more variety in clothing than guys. His excuse is that the female clothes are a part of his disguise as my Aunt Pleakley."
"Ah. I see." Zee continued with the paddling before a thought struck her. "Hey, hold on a minute. How'd you get this surfboard if you need an adult to surf with you?"
Lilo chuckled sheepishly. "Well, Stitch kinda borrowed it for me while you were in the change room."
"But I was only in there for a few seconds!" Zee exclaimed. "He 'borrowed' a board that quickly?"
"Stitch is really good at that kind of stuff," Lilo said. "Not as good as Bonnie or Clyde though."
"The criminals?" Zee asked in confusion, recalling the criminal duo from an Earth history book she had read a while ago.
"Cousins!" Stitch called out.
"Yeah, they really liked stealing stuff. But they're almost completely reformed," Lilo said confidently. "Soon they'll be able to get a job and be in their one true place."
"Big wave!" Stitch called suddenly.
Zee widened her green eyes as the wave approached the trio. "Now what?"
Lilo grinned. "We surf."
Zee yelped in surprise as the board was lifted up by the massive wave. She was perfectly content staying glued to the board, but she stood reluctantly when Lilo yanked on her arm.
"Lean forward, keep your balance, and scream as loud as you can!" Lilo whooped happily as the surfboard careened downward. Zee put her weight forward and held her arms out to the side. Stitch stood at the back of the board, shouting in his alien tongue and waving his paws in the air. Lilo was screaming loudly and pumping the air with her small fists. Zee winced, trying to control the sudden ripples that shot through her body. As Lilo screamed louder, a white-hot pain shot through her.
Zee groaned loudly. She clapped her hands over her ears and took a deep breath, trying to control her panic. She didn't know why she was having this reaction. Electricity and water were her only weaknesses, as far as she knew. But Lilo's shrill scream seemed to be affecting her drastically. If Lilo didn't stop, there was a good chance she would revert to her true form.
Before Zee could tell Lilo to quiet down, a panicked voice shouted, "Look out!"
All three turned to see another surfer come their way. As they zoomed down the wave, the edge of their board crashed with his and all of them were sent sailing in the air and towards the water.
Lilo's scream was now filled with shock instead of joy. Zee could not help but shriek as the water loomed closer.
It was then time seemed to stop.
The seconds ticked by slowly. Her body rippled, and then it tingled. She hit the water at full force, leaving a stinging sensation on her upper body. She squeezed her eyes shut as she became completely submerged.
Then she took a breath.
Instead of choking like anyone would have, she breathed water in like it was air. Bubbles escaped her mouth as she sighed with relief.
She had managed to transform before she hit the water. She now floated just below the surface, her legs now a green tail with a set of flippers at the end. She had turned into a mermaid.
I hope no one saw that transformation, Zee thought. But she would worry about that later. Now she had to see if Lilo and Stitch were okay.
A flash of red and yellow caught her eye. Lilo was sinking to the sandy bottom, red tinting the water around her. Zee paled and quickly swam as best she could towards the little girl. Grabbing hold of her arms, Zee tugged her up to the surface. She was relieved when Lilo started coughing as she placed the Hawaiian girl onto their surfboard.
"Stitch," Lilo moaned, her hand drifting towards the large gash on the side of her head.
"I'll get him," Zee assured her and dove back down. Her tail flicked above the surface for just a moment before disappearing into the water.
After a quick scan Zee spotted Stitch trapped between two rocks. His body was starting to go limp. Zee swam over to him hurriedly and grabbed the alien experiment. She freed him from the rocks and dragged him back to the surface. She placed him on the surfboard beside Lilo, who was now unconscious. With a heavy sigh she climbed on the surfboard herself. Her tail morphed back into her legs as she collapsed against the board, her blond hair plastered to her face.
Lilo moaned in pain, and Stitch coughed up some water and shot up in panic. "Lilo!"
"She's fine," Zee said tiredly. "She just needs to rest for a bit."
Stitch nodded and gently put Lilo's head in his lap. He eyed Zee curiously. "Thought water harmful to cousin?"
"It is, but if I take an aquatic form before I'm completely submerged, I'm okay." Zee sat up a little bit and squinted at the shoreline. She could see someone swimming out towards them. "Oh good. We're going to be rescued."
"Not good idea," Stitch muttered, referring to the surfing lesson.
No kidding, Zee thought. So much for not attracting attention to myself.
