WELCOME TO ANOTHER CHAPTER OF G.L.E.E! I know some of you have been waiting ratherimpatiently *glares* (You know who you are! But it's your bugging that keeps me writing... :P) for this chapter and all the glory that is Blaine Anderson.
***PLEASE NOTE THAT ONE OF THE SONGS IN HERE HAS ALSO BEEN SUNG BY THE WARBLERS, BUT IT IS A VERY DIFFERENT VERSION!***
*Also, in the song that Harry and Blaine sing, Blaine is in itallics, Harry is in bold, and when they are singing together it is both.*
I've had some wonderful feedback from you guys. I love going to my review space to see that you guys seem to be enjoying the words that I splurge out onto my screen and into yours. Never underestimate the power of amazing reviews!
*****I NEED YOUR HELP! I need song suggestions from you desperately, as at the moment I have no clue what anyone will be singing for the competition yet. It takes a lot of time searching the internet for good songs that would fit the characters I'm writing. ALSO I LOVE MUSIC AND THUS AM ALWAYS WANTING MORE MUSIC TO LISTEN TO! :D So, suggest your favourite songs! I might be able to work them into the fic!*****

School passed quickly and soon Harry found himself sat cross-legged on the floor in his living room across from Blaine, paper with various pieces of school work spread around him, having enzymes explained to him. He'd never needed to know much about how the body actually worked back at Hogwarts, or even in muggle primary school. It both baffled and amazed him how complex the body was.
"So let me get this straight, enzymes are proteins that help other biological reactions happen."
"Yes! And that's because?" Blaine asked.
"They lower the activation energy? This is the thingy that happens at the active site isn't it?" Harry said tentatively, unsure as to whether he was correct. All the work that they had been doing over the last two hours was starting to hurt his brain. Biology was a lot more complicated than it sounded. There was things that Harry thought he understood, but when he answered questions on them, he always seemed to get it wrong.
"Well done Harry!" Blaine said with a grin. They had gone over enzymes at the beginning of the tutoring session and somehow Harry had been able to remember enough to actually answer correctly when they touched on it again. Harry's stomach grumbled. He looked up at the clock to find that more time than he thought had passed, and it was around then that Harry usually got around to making himself dinner.
"Hey Blaine, it is half past five. Are you hungry?" Harry asked.
"A bit. What's for food?" The other boy asked, standing up and stretching his legs. Harry stood up and did the same as his own were rather dead from sitting on the floor for so long.
"Anything really. If you're really hungry I can just make something quick." Harry responded, mentally going through his kitchen cupboards for what he could make.
"You cook?" Blaine asked, a slight look of shock on his face.
"I am an awesome cook!" Harry declared. He had been cooking from a young age at the Dursley's, and it was one of the only chores that he enjoyed growing up. "You name it, I can probably cook it, albeit with a recipe at hand if I haven't heard of it."
Blaine looked impressed, but sceptical of his cooking skills.
"You're sceptical, right? Name your favourite dish." Harry dared the older boy. He would prove Blaine wrong.
"Pasta?" Blain said uncertainly. Harry sighed. Blaine was being indecisive. He was going to have to make the decision for the guy. His thoughts wandered to what he had that needed using up.
"You like Chicken Florentine Pasta?" Harry asked. It was one of his favourite quick meals to cook. It was also relatively healthy, unlike the foods he had to cook for the Dursley's most of the time, and Harry had perfected the dish over the past few months. Blaine nodded and so Harry motioned for Blaine to follow him to the kitchen. He might as well have Blaine help him. That way the food would take even less time to prepare. Harry walked over to his fridge and took the chicken, spinach and tomatoes out. He walked over to the island in the middle of the kitchen, at which Blaine was stood. Harry placed the tomatoes in front of the boy and asked him to chop them in half, whilst Harry prepared the chicken. Once the chicken was prepared Harry cooked it in a frying pan, set the chicken to one side and put the pasta on to cook. There was a comfortable silence that lasted about ten minutes before Harry decided to break it.
"So, Blaine," Harry asked whilst continuing to prepare the meal, "what kind of song do you think we should sing?"
"I'm not sure. What kind of genre do you like?"
Harry bowed his head and fumbled for the right words. "I don't have a favourite." He mumbled, pouring the stock into the pan, "I only started listening to any music once I joined Glee Club."
"What?" Blaine asked with a creased brow. "No music at all?"
Blaine was reacting as if he had never heard of tea! Sure, music was amazing, but surely it wasn't that important?
"I sung literally the only song I knew at all at the auditions, and I hadn't even heard the song in years. I've just listened to some stuff on YouTube in my spare time since the beginning of the year."
Blaine's jaw dropped and Harry shifted uncomfortably at the attention.
"You're telling me that you pulled off that audition with virtually no practise, having not listened to the song itself in years?"
"Yeah?" Harry responded unsurely and chewed his lip whilst wilting the spinach, "Marley wrote down the lyrics for me if I needed them, but I didn't end up using them."
Blaine grinned. His eyes had a mad twinkle to them. "Have you known any of the songs that we've sung in Glee?" He asked.
"No?"
Blaine smirked and reminded Harry slightly of Malfoy. "What is it?" He asked cautiously.
"We are totally going to win this Harry. You don't know how rare it is for someone to be able to pick up a song just like that," Blaine clicked his fingers, "and be able to sing it correctly."
The predatory grin on Blaine's face unsettled Harry slightly, and so he turned back to the frying pan and put all of the ingredients into it, including the tomatoes that Blaine had cut up for him.
They descended into a rather awkward silence. Harry didn't know what to say so he just continued to cook. Soon it was ready to eat. Harry turned around to find that Blaine had found the cupboard with the plates in and had taken two of them out. Harry served up and they sat down to eat at the island in his kitchen, instead of walking all the way to the dining room which was far too large for just the two of them. Blaine took a mouthful of the pasta and moaned.
"Harry where did you learn to cook like this? Please tell me that you bake!" The older boy begged and Harry laughed.
"I've always cooked, and, yes Blaine, I bake. There's a cake in the fridge that I made the other day. I'd offer you some, but apparently chocolate isn't good if one wants to sing. You can have some once we're done though." He said with a smile. He was a better baker than he was a cook. Dudley had always been wanting more junk food and thus Harry had often been enlisted into baking his cousin what he wanted. Blaine moaned again as he tucked into his meal with vigour and Harry couldn't help but grin at the effect that his cooking was having on the boy.
"Harry?" Blaine asked a few minutes later, once his pace of eating had slowed down.
"Yeah?"
"Where are your guardians?" Blaine asked. Harry flinched and cursed mentally. Of course Blaine was going to be curious about the lack of adults. "Are they just working late? I-"
"No, Blaine, they aren't. I'm emancipated." Harry said interrupting whatever Blaine was about to say. Blaine's eyes widened. "My parents left me a ton of money and I was able to get emancipation. I live on my own."
Harry looked down to avoid the pitying look that Blaine was bound to give him. Harry didn't want Blaine's pity. He didn't need it. He didn't need yet another person prying into his home life either. Why were these yanks so concerned about him? If only his teachers and peers at Primary school and at Hogwarts had been this observant.
"That must be lonely" Blaine said quietly.
"It is." Harry murmured to himself. Harry pointedly ignored the other boy and focused in finishing his food.
Once both of them had eaten their pasta, Blaine had finished off the extra that had been left in the pan, they stood up, leaving the dishes in the sink to 'wash up' later. Harry was just going to have them clean themselves when Blaine was gone. Harry really loved magic sometimes. The two of them vacated to Harry's bedroom. Blaine walked straight over to the piano that Harry had put in his room and stroked the keys.
The other boy sat down on the piano stool and started to play the instrument. Harry grinned when he recognised the song.
Mmm
If the fish swam out of the ocean
And grew legs and they started walking
And the apes climbed down from the trees
And grew tall and they started talking
Harry took over from Blaine. Blaine smiled at him and continued to play the song.
And the stars fell out of the sky
And my tears rolled into the ocean
And now I'm looking for a reason why
You even set my world into motion
'Cause if you're not really here
Then the stars don't even matter
Now I'm filled to the top with fear
That it's all just a bunch of matter
'Cause if you're not really there
Then I don't wanna be either
I wanna be next to you
Black and gold, black and gold, black and gold
Mmm
I look up into the night sky
I see a thousand eyes staring back
And all around these golden beacons
I see nothing but black
I feel the weight of something beyond them
I don't see what I can feel
If vision is the only validation
Then most of my life isn't real
'Cause if you're not really here
Then the stars don't even matter
Now I'm filled to the top with fear
That it's all just a bunch of matter
'Cause if you're not really there
Then I don't wanna be either
I wanna be next to you
Black and gold, black and gold, black and gold
Mmm
Black and gold, black and gold, black and gold
Oh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
'Cause if you're not really here
Then the stars don't even matter
Now I'm filled to the top with fear
That it's all just a bunch of matter
'Cause if you're not really there
I don't wanna be either
I wanna be, next to you
Black and gold, black and gold, black and gold
Harry was grinning by halfway through the song. He wasn't really a musician, but he could tell that their voices blended well together.
"And that, my friend, is how it is done!" Blaine exclaimed and held his hand up for a high five. Harry obliged and then sat down on the piano stool with Blaine.
"Are we going to use that for the competition?" Harry asked. Blaine looked thoughtful for a moment before answering.
"It's a definite contender, but we should look at a few more before we make a decision."
For the next two hours they discussed and practised various songs that they could sing for the competition, eventually deciding on a particularly good song that Harry hadn't heard of until that day. Blaine also helped Harry decide on a song to sing for the solo competition. Harry didn't particularly want a solo, but Blaine had convinced him to at the very least try out. The two of them had explored YouTube, looking for songs for him to sing. They hadn't found one yet, but Harry hoped that they would be able to find one over the next few days. Blaine arranged to come over again for another tutoring session and some Glee practise on Saturday. They would have the whole day available to study and sing. Harry smiled at the thought of spending more time with Blaine, someone who was quickly becoming a good friend to Harry. Nothing near his friendship with Marley or Artie, but it was always good to have more than just a few friends. Harry treasured each one that he was able to gain.
Soon Blaine had to leave and Harry found himself alone once again. Having had company mad his house seem twice as empty. It was too quiet. Having nothing better to do, Harry got ready and climbed into bed. Sleep came easily to him that night, melodies of the various songs he had practised with Blaine acting as lullabies, lulling him into Morpheus' realm.
#############################
Harry woke with a gasp and shuddered into his mattress. He hated the fact that he had nightmares. They haunted him. There hadn't been many nights since the war that he hadn't had them. Sometimes they contained memories of his friends that were long gone. Some of the newer ones put his new friends and acquaintances in their places. Sometimes they were of his uncle. Sometimes his dreaming mind combined the scenarios. Those were the worst nightmares that he had, all of his demons working together. It was of this latter sort that his dream had been about. He hadn't had one of those in a few days. His dreams were normally centred on his parents during the days surrounding Halloween.
Harry got up. He wasn't going to be able to sleep any longer. He looked at the clock and cursed. It was only four am, he was going to be hanging by the end of the day. Harry carried out his morning ablutions, got ready for school and found himself with 2 hours to spare before he needed to even think about leaving for school.
Harry went and sat at his piano and started to press random notes. Flashes of the dream played through his mind. Harry was letting them in; letting people in again. It was stupid to do so. He would just end up having to go through the pain of losing them all again. He got everybody killed eventually, but Harry couldn't help but be selfish once again. It was just so hard to not let anyone in. He had done so without even realising the moment that he had bumped into Marley for the first time. Harry didn't think that he could cope with everyone leaving once they saw his dark side.
Mr Schue, Marley, Artie, Charlie, Unique. They seemed to care. Blaine had started to worm his way into Harry's heart as well. Hanging out with Blaine had been more fun than Harry had had in a while. Since school had started he'd avoided doing anything social outside of school. There wasn't all that much for him to be invited to in the first place with his limited number of friends, but the few things that he was invited to he politely declined, citing previously made plans. Harry had found that not going places socially with his new friends helped him distance himself from them. There was only so much time that they could spend together in school. It was better for everyone in the long run. Neither of them had to get too attached; something that Harry, depraved of love as he was, had managed to fail at miserably. Harry laughed half-heartedly at himself. He was going to regret ever moving to Lima eventually, wasn't he?
Harry suddenly sneezed. The unexpected sneeze shook him out of his thoughts. Harry looked up at the clock to find that he had been on his rather depressing train of thought for over an hour and a half. Harry decided that as he had been sat at the piano for ages, he should probably play something. He spent a few minutes deliberating which song he should play and decided on one that Brad had taught him a few weeks ago. The song, like so many others that he had come across in his recent introduction to music, seemed to reach into his soul and display his emotions in a way that he wouldn't be able to put into words himself.
There's a place that I know
It's not pretty there and few have ever gone
If I show it to you now
Will it make you run away?
Or will you stay
Even if it hurts
Even if I try to push you out
Will you return?
And remind me who I really am
Please remind me who I really am
Everybody's got a dark side
Do you love me?
Can you love mine?
Nobody's a picture perfect
But we're worth it
You know that we're worth it
Will you love me?
Even with my dark side?
Like a diamond
From black dust
It's hard to know
What can become
If you give up
So don't give up on me
Please remind me who I really am
Everybody's got a dark side
Do you love me?
Can you love mine?
Nobody's a picture perfect
But we're worth it
You know that we're worth it
Will you love me?
Even with my dark side?
Don't run away
Don't run away
Just tell me that you will stay
Promise me you will stay
Don't run away
Don't run away
Just promise me you will stay
Promise me you will stay
Will you love me? Ohh
Everybody's got a dark side
Do you love me?
Can you love mine?
Nobody's a picture perfect
But we're worth it
You know that we're worth it
There's a place that I know
It's not pretty there and few have ever gone
Will you love me?
Harry let the last chord ring out until the sound had completely vanished to the human ear. Harry let out a sigh and wrapped his arms around himself. He knew that his friends wanted to be there for him, but they had no clue of the person he was. They knew Harry Evans. They didn't know of his past. They didn't know what happened to everyone who got close to him.
Harry suddenly wished for a hug and was caught off guard by the craving. It was a stupid notion. There was no one around to hug. Harry found his mind wandering to the hug that Mr Schuester had given him a couple of days previously. Harry pressed his lips together, running one of his hands through his hair. It was as though there was this knot of tension in him that seemed to be ever growing. He had liked that hug. It was almost- Harry forced his thoughts onto another subject, not even daring to think the words. Harry sighed with slumped shoulders. He didn't know what to do. A few moments later Harry gave into what he was feeling. He stood up, grabbed his bag from his bed and went outside. Harry was going to school.
