"Narlene!" Abigail called as she strode up to a group of scouts.

Narlene turned, helmet in her hands. "Yes?"

"May I join you?"

Narlene looked around. "I….suppose you may join us."

"Hold on a minute." A woman stepped between Narlene and Abigail, examining Abigail. "What's your name, Offworlder?"

"Abigail Hunter. What is yours?" Abigail asked quietly, backing up.

"General Jinsol Arondeva." The woman was tall, and broad, dressed in armor plating like the rest of the scouts. A series of stripes on her right arm revealed her rank. "What's your purpose here?"

"Jinsol, she's here to stop Mongal," Narlene said quietly. "Her and the other Human."

Jinsol stared Abigail down. "I mean on this squad. This is an elite team I chose myself. Each member of this group was hand-picked because of their abilities. What do you have to offer?"

"I'm part of the Green Lantern CORPS," Abigail said, shaking her shyness.

"Yes, yes." Jinsol waved her arm impatiently. "If your ring loses power, or is removed, what can you do? Do you have any training?"

"No….."

Narlene spoke up. "We will train her during our stakeout, General. Na Erechai and I will help her with strategy and our tech, and I'm sure that our specialists will give her battle training."

"I'm not sure if I want battle training," Abigail murmured. "The Green Lantern CORPS is concerned with peace, not war."

"Yeah? Well, you're in a war now, kid. Get used to it. We've lost a lot of people already. I won't have you risking any more than we have to," Jinsol snarled. She turned. "Lieutenant, get that girl some armor."

Narlene took Abigail's arm and started to lead her off.

~Let those who worship evil's might~

Abigail Hunter was quiet, shy and gentle yet a behind-the-scenes mover and shaker. She was not a soldier.

Yet here she was, tugging on the black, heavy armor over her Lantern suit.

"I feel clunky."

Narlene shook her head. "It's the best armor we have. It will protect against just about any hand weapon."

"Mm." Abigail tugged the helmet on over her dark hair. "How do I look?"

"Like one of us."

"The General called you Lieutenant," Abigail remembered. "Is that what you are?"

"I am."

"But Maxima had you serving food," Abigail pointed out.

"It's different in the army," Narlene explained. "You're higher up there than you are in Maxima's organization. She intends to lead our planet back to glory. Elend was a wonderful planet. The people will enjoy living under her rule when we take back what is ours."

"I suppose." Abigail turned. "Well, let's go."

"Indeed."
