Chapter Seven
i do not own yu-gi-oh!.
Yūgi woke the next morning, stretching as she sat up in bed. She'd had a blissful sleep the night before, following after the amazing date she'd had with Yami after they'd gotten Jiro to leave them alone finally. She could still feel the lingering effect of his lips against hers, her fingertips gingerly touching them as she smiled. She couldn't wait to see him again, honestly. She'd promised that she would call soon and set up a time for them to go on their next date.
Flipping the duvet back, she slipped out of bed, sliding into her house shoes and robe before she shuffled into the kitchen. She'd been in the middle of making herself breakfast when the front door opened, and Joey stumbled into the apartment. Yūgi chuckled to herself as her best friend made her way to her bedroom, lugging several bags along with her. The tri-colour haired woman could only assume that she'd had a great night the night before. Joey would tell her all about it when they sat down to breakfast.
The first serving of nori tamagoyaki was finished by the time Joey came back to the kitchen, Yūgi placing it on a plate before slicing it expertly and sitting the food in front of her best friend who happily thanked her. The rice was brought over a minute later, the rice cooker having just dinged as soon as she'd placed the plate down. Joey delved in a moment later before glancing up at the shorter woman, a brow irked. "So, how'd the date go last night? Where'd Yami take ya, Yūg?"
"It was great, despite the little hiccup in the beginning," Yūgi answered, pouring the mix for her own breakfast into the pan. "We went to Bella's. It was a beautiful place, and the food was delicious. It would have been even better if Jiro didn't work there and he wasn't our waiter for the evening."
"No way," Joey said after swallowing a bite rice. "Jiro, as in your ex-boyfriend Jiro?"
"That would be the one," Yūgi hummed thoughtfully as she folded the egg over to make the omelette shape. "He was furious when he realized that I was on a date. But after both myself and Yami shut him down, he wasn't much of a bother. And while I hoped I would never see his face again, there was a bit of satisfaction knowing that he wasn't as well off as he boasted about being when he left me six years ago."
"Serves his ass right," Joey chuckled, taking another bite of her rice as her best friend plated her own breakfast before joining her at the table. "So, obviously the date went well. Are you going to see Yami again any time soon?"
"If I recall correctly, I promised to call him to set date number two up sometime soon after he practically kissed me breathless," Yūgi chirped before stuffing a piece of her nori tamagoyaki into her mouth.
Joey almost choked on her rice. "You kissed him? And after only one date?"
"It was a very spur of the moment decision, Joey," Yūgi admitted, blushing.
"This guy is definitely good for you," Joey laughed, brushing sandy blond hair out of her face. "You never kiss on the first date. But I guess, there's a first time for everything. And it looks like Yami is going to be at the end of a lot of those firsts if future dates go as well as this first one did."
Yūgi couldn't help but agree. Now, it was Joey's turn to delve into what happened to her the night before. "So, how did your night go? You obviously had a great time with Seto."
Joey had the decency to blush as she stuffed a piece of her omelette into her mouth. Yūgi could tell that she was trying to decide how much to actually tell her. "Well, we went out to this new club that just opened up down town not too long ago. It's actually great, Yūgi. You and Yami should probably go some time, you know. You'd definitely have fun. After that we headed back to his place. And well, you know how the rest of that goes. It was definitely a great night. I can't wait until you have nights like that so we can talk about this stuff in more detail. I don't want you feeling left out."
Yūgi couldn't help but laugh. Joey was making it seem as if she were a virgin, which she definitely was not. Not for quite some time, actually. Unfortunately, Jiro had been the one that had the pleasure of deflowering her. "Joey you act like I've never been in that situation before. I told you all about all of my sexual exploits that I've delved in. It's not like I'm going to be uncomfortable."
"But I'm uncomfortable talking about it," Joey chuckled. "I'm actually embarrassed. Do you know how awkward it is telling your best friend all the sexual shit your boyfriend has done and the positions he put you in?"
"It wasn't awkward at all," Yūgi laughed. "Remember, I used to tell you everything that happened between Jiro and me. I think you were more embarrassed about it than I was. Actually, I know you were more embarrassed about it than I was."
"Yeah, you made it so awkward on so many levels because you would go into such vivid detail for no reason," Joey laughed, brushing her sandy blond hair out of her face. "That's okay though. Maybe I'll be as comfortable talking about that as you are one of these days. Until then, I'm not saying."
"Fine, don't tell me then," Yūgi chuckled before she popped the last of her omelette into her mouth. "I'll make sure I'll keep all the juicy secrets about what I've done to myself when we make it to that point."
"You're saying that like you're ready to jump Yami's bones," Joey laughed as they both stood from the table to take their dishes to the sink. "I mean, you definitely looked like you were ready to the minute you saw him after the whole pasta salad in your freakin' hair fiasco at Kisara's birthday party on Sunday."
"I don't know, maybe I am," Yūgi said as they washed the dishes together. "It has been six years, Joey. Six. Years. Do you realize how long that is?"
"This is true," Joey laughed as she rinsed the dishes before putting them in the strainer to dry. "It has been a while since you last got to have a little fun with the opposite sex. Maybe being with Yami will be a good thing for you. Daily penetration is actually medicinal."
"Alright, now you just made it awkward," Yūgi laughed. "Who the hell told you that?"
"Me, I told me that," Joey answered with a laugh.
…
Joey had left to visit Seto at his office a few hours later, leaving Yūgi on her own. She'd decided, instead of staying cooped up in her apartment, she'd go and visit with her Grandfather. She hadn't seen him in a while and figured that now would be a good a time as any to see him. Mind made up, she dawned a pair of white capri pants, a baby blue blouse and pulled her white gladiators from her closet before leaving the house. On her way out the door, she'd texted Yami to see what he was up to, wanting to set up their next date as soon as possible. She was still riding on cloud nine after the amazing date they'd had the night before. Not to mention the kiss that she could still feel on her lips.
When she got close to her car, she unlocked the doors and stepped into the vehicle just as her message alert chimed to let her know that someone had text her. She opened the message from Yami, a large smile forming on her lips. He'd told her that he had enjoyed their night together the evening before and asked when he would be able to see her again. Brushing her fingers through her hair she answered his question before putting it in the cup holder and starting the car. She did have to go and see her grandfather after all.
She drove to her grandfather's home, humming to the radio as she drove the short distance to her childhood home. She pulled to a stop in front of the game shop that doubled as a house and cut the ignition. Getting out of the car, she locked the doors behind her before heading for the front door of the game shop. She walked in, seeing her Grandfather talking to a customer about Duel Monsters cards and smiled as she folded her arms across her chest.
He finished with the customer before turning to look at his granddaughter. There was a large smile on his face as he stepped from behind the counter before moving to hug the girl.
"Yūgi, how are you my girl," Sugoroku said as he hugged the girl. "It's been quite some time since you last came by to visit. How has work been? Any new developments since we last spoke?"
"Yes, actually," Yūgi answered, gesturing for them to go and sit down at the table. "There's a lot that has happened in the last week or so that we need to talk about."
"Oh," Sugoroku asked, irking a brow as his granddaughter led him to the table. "And what has been happening? Nothing bad, I hope?"
"No, no, it's nothing bad at all," Yūgi assured her grandfather. "Actually, I think it might be good."
"Do tell," Sugoroku chimed happily.
"Well, I did meet a nice gentleman while I was at Kisara's birthday party this past Sunday," Yūgi answered thoughtfully. "He's actually Seto's cousin, Yami Sennen. And his daughter is absolutely adorable! And a very sweet little girl. We had a date last night, it went well so I think we'll be seeing each other again sometime soon."
"I'm glad, Yūgi," Sugoroku said smiling. "It's been so long since I last saw you happy after that incident with the Jiro boy a few years ago. Now this Yami, what does he do?"
"He's the Chief Financial Officer for Kaiba Corp.," Yūgi answered. "He does well for himself, a few years older than I am but he doesn't seem to mind, and I don't either. Besides, it's not a huge age difference anyways, so it's not that bad."
"How old is he," Sugoroku asked, curious.
"He's thirty-two," Yūgi answered, recalling how old he'd told her he was. "His daughter is six, a little younger than Kisara is."
Sugoroku smiled, happy to see his granddaughter happy. It had been so long since he last saw her radiating the way that she was. Hopefully this Yami would be good for her. He listened to her ramble on about various things she'd endured since the last time that she'd come to visit. He knew how busy she was what with her career and all. He was very proud of her for following her dreams and finding someone who makes her happy. She hadn't been this way since she and Jiro broke up.
"Grandpa, did you hear me," Yūgi asked, her brows furrowed as she looked at her grandfather. "Is everything okay? You spaced out on me for a bit."
"I'm fine, I'm fine," Sugoroku said waving off her concern. "I was just thinking that I'm happy to see that you've finally moved on from Jiro. You were on your own for so many years. I think this Yami gentleman could be good for you. I would like to meet him some day."
"Let me get past the second date first, Grandpa, then we'll talk about you meeting Yami," Yūgi laughed, rubbing the back of her neck. It wasn't like they'd made anything I yet. It had only been one date. "I have to see where this goes first before I bring him over to meet you."
"Fair enough," Sugoroku laughed. "So, do you have any other plans today?"
Yūgi shook her head, "Not exactly." Then an idea popped into her head. "Hey Grandpa, would you like to come out with me today? We can drive around and see if we can find something to do. Maybe go see a movie or something?"
"I think that would be a great idea," Sugoroku said as he stood from his seat. "Let me just get my shoes and we'll go. The shop is closed for today, so we don't have to worry about customers coming and trying to buy anything while we're away."
Yūgi nodded, "I'll look and see if there are any movies out that we might want to see. Or anything else we can do too. Then we'll go grab a bite to eat after, how does that sound?"
"Wonderful dear," Sugoroku said as he made his way upstairs, leaving his granddaughter alone in the kitchen.
Yūgi had pulled her phone out to check movie times when a new text message had come through from Yami. She smiled as she typed her reply before going back to searching for a movie for she and her grandpa to see. By the time he came back, she'd found one, grabbed her keys and led the elderly man out to her car. She opened the passenger door for him, letting him get in before she closed it and joined him in the driver's seat. She started the ignition before backing out of the driveway and making her way to the theatre.
