Author's note: lots of BIG surprises coming up, especially in this chapter, and Alex will also be given further development, and certain sections of the story will be in his POV
With Alex being busy with a work-related phone call as he rolled a felt-tip pen along his short-brown hair, and Garry still at his meeting, I finaly had the time to find out where Ms. Desjarden was. I tried checking the school website, but she wasn't listed as a teacher anymore. I had only one option now: I had to look up the prom night disaster.
Every article felt like a hole being punched through my chest. "TEENAGE GIRL LAUNCHES TELEKINETIC KILLING SPREE ON PROM NIGHT", "OVER 45 PEOPLE KILLED DURING PROM MASSACRE", I could feel tears coming as I read the articles, but I had to stay completely calm, I couldn't let anyone know what I was capable of yet, especially Alex.
I kept looking for any information about what happened to her, but nothing came up. Fortunately, after looking for another hour, I finally found my answer. "EWAN HIGH GYM TEACHER GETS SENT TO MEMTAL INSTITUTION AFTER MULTIPLE SUICIDE ATTEMPTS".
"Carrie, are you alright?" Alex asked, noticing how pale I was
He got up from his chair at the other end of our cubical and told the person he was on the phone with that he'd call them back.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I lied, quickly closing out of the page I was on
"Okay, just checking" he replied
I felt horrible about lying to him, but I wasn't ready to tell him the truth about my life yet, and I was afraid that he'd never want to see me again. I couldn't lose him as a friend, he's one of the very few people I could actually open up to.
"Well, it seems like Garry is going to be at his meeting for a while, we don't really have any work to do, and it's 2:30, wanna go get some lunch?" he asked with a small smile
"Sure" I smiled, turning off my computer completely
We decided to go to BJ's since it was down the street from the office. Neither one of us could stop talking the entire walk there. "I've been meaning to ask..." Alex began as we finally sat at our table "...Where are you from originally?" he asked
"I'm from Maine, I'm actually good friends with Garry's cousin: Sue." I replied
"Did you two go to school together?" he asked
"Yeah, during junior and senior year." I replied
I had to tred very carefully about what I said now since he knew that Sue and I were schoolmates. I didn't want to keep lying to him, but I couldn't tell him the truth yet.
"Wasn't she a student at Ewan High, I think I remember hearing about it in the news a few months ago?" he asked
"Yeah, we were, and yes it was the same school with the prom massacre." I replied, preparing myself for the inevitable
"Well I wouldn't exactly call an earthquake a massacre, that falls more into the category of a natural disaster." he replied "The press kept coming up with random theories about how a girl with telekinesis was responsible, but they were probably just trying toswell more subscriptions."
"I was at the prom." I accidentally blurted out. I could feel the blood in my cheeks begining to drain from my face as I became pale
Did you know the girl that got pig blood dumped on her?" he asked, his voice low enough to where only I could hear him
"Yeah...it was me." I replied
"I don't really remember what happened after that, the next thing I remembered was walking back home, drenched In blood." I continued, with a hint of honesty (my memory of my rampage actually was pretty foggy to me, although, that's also partialy because I'm trying not to remember anything)
"Well I guess sometimes there are things we aren't supposed to remember." he replied, smiling
We then realized how long we'd been gone, and headed back to work. I knew I'd just dodged a huge bullet, but it would eventually come back. I have to tell Alex the truth, and I have to do it soon.
When I walked into my cubical, I found Garry waiting for me. His face looked like it was hiding tears. "Carrie, can I talk to you for a minute?" he asked "Okay" I replied, slightly worried
"What's going on?" I asked when we reached his office, sitting across from him at his desk
"Sue's been in a car accident." he replied
Author's note: I know this was a REALLY short chapter. It was originally going to be longer, but I felt like there would've been too much material for one chapter, so I split it up. The next chapter will be up around Monday, I want to do sme tweaking on it.
P.s. I hope you guys like Alex so far, I'm actually partially basing parts of his personality off of me. Also, I'm planning on Alex and Carrie's relationship to be more gradual rather than jumping right into them having a romantic relationship
