Chapter 7: Meeting Professor Snape

I woke to people walking about. The first thing I noticed was how my bed felt. Soft and springy but nothing poked in my back. Perhaps the beds were magically enchanted for springy jumps? The seconds thing I noticed was Samantha and Abigail had gathered their school robes, some fluffy colored towels, and some other bath materials.

"Sorry," Abigail muttered softly staring wide eyed in my direction a terrified and uncertain look spread across her face.

"Sorry, did we wake you?" Samantha muttered apologetically. "We didn't mean to." Outside I could see the sun just starting to rise. Classes didn't start till later.

I force a smile at the two, Lavender was still snoring softly hugging her pillow to her chest and Hermione was curled into a ball, some of her bushy brown hair was covering her face. Some even sticking in her mouth. "It's okay, I was about to get up anyway...you heading to the bathroom?" I nodded towards their stuff. Of course I'm stating the obvious, I wasn't sure what to say honestly.

"Yeah, want to join us? We could explore some." I shrugged getting out of my warm bed. My feet met with cold wood.

"Sure," Samantha and Abigail grinned waiting for me to grab my stuff. I grabbed my half of a bar of soap. Uncle Vernon said that we had to make it last. Very generous of him since I didn't think he would give us anything at all. My dull toothbrush that you usually get free from the dentist. And as for a towel I just used one of my T-Shirts I got from Dudley. There was no way in hell Uncle Vernon or Aunt Petunia was going to let Harry or I take a towel. He screamed and idea that we take their precious towels.

"Did you forget your towel?" Abigail called laughing to herself. I could probably guess what she was thinking. 'How could you forget your towel if you know you're going away?'

"Yeah, I must have been in a hurry and overlooked it…" Samantha gave me a strange look but didn't question me. I hope she believes me, am I really bad at lying? I need to get better.

"Well I'm sure you can owl your Aunt and Uncle to send you one or something." Abigail grinned extending her hand for me to grab on. I didn't though. I just walked beside her and Samantha keeping quiet and looking around the common room. I could hear the fire crackling just down the stairs.

We wondered for a good ten minutes before Samantha asked one of the girls where to go. Then it was easy to remember. The bathroom when we walked inside was huge. There were two sides. One side for toilets and the other for showers or baths. There was a row of twenty from what I could see. Maybe more.

The three of us easily split one of them saying something along the lines of meeting up for breakfast. I had nodded along and watched them leave. I ended up choosing the last shower on the end and placed my stuff to the side. As soon as I walked in I was surprised to see the once empty stall filled with shampoo, conditioner, soaps, and a fresh fluffy green towel appear.

I must have gasped or dropped something because an older girl appeared in the next few minutes looking me over wide eyed at first then forcing herself to look at the wall. "Oh yeah, the House Elves they always put in the bath materials you might need incase you forget anything." I wouldn't have to use a t-shirt? House Elves? "You're okay though, right?"

I nodded mutely still staring wide eyed at everything.

"Alright," The girl walked away leaving me alone to my privacy. Magic was so cool!

After bathing I felt better. I smelled better and just felt amazing. I changed into my robes grinning at my reflection, this was incredible. My own supplies had vanished after I finished changing. I wasn't sure if the same thing had happened to Samantha or Abigail but I knew I needed to see Harry. See if anything strange happened to him last night.

I walked through the halls to get back to my room. The common room was so big that I felt like I could be walking for who knows how long just to get back to my room. But I found it eventually. Hermione was up trying to tame her wild brown hair.

"Hey Elizabeth, I was wondering where you went off to." She grinned happily. I gave a polite smile back and went to my trunk pulling out my books.

"I ended up having to shower…" I explained awkwardly again. Every time I spoke to someone new it was always awkward.

"I'm probably going to later tonight before bed. How did you sleep?" We ended up having a chat about dreams, she was telling me how she was dreaming that she would be the best witch in our class then saying how she doubted it would happen.

I don't think I even had a dream so I ended up telling her a dream I had about dragons flying around me. I listened to Hermione chat about all kinds of magic we might learn this year. I clutched my Alchemy book to my chest with my other books.

"Look, there she is." someone whispered not so quietly.

"Where?"

"The one next to the bushy haired girl."

All around us people were staring and pointing. I just wanted to curl more into myself and just disappear right now. Was there anything I could do to just disappear?

I wasn't sure if Harry had to deal with this either but I hope it doesn't last long. "Are you alright Elizabeth?" Hermione asked concerned noticing the distressed look on my face.

"Everyone keeps looking at me…" Hermione nodded glaring at the people around us. Wrapping a protective arm around my back and pulling me closer towards her. My whole body went rigid. She was touching me. My skin started to crawl the longer the arm was there. I appreciate the thought of trying to be protective but this was too much for me right now.

Hermione let me go when we entered the Great hall. I still felt on ease. I automatically caught sight of Harry and Ron eating cereal. Already the table was full of breakfast foods of all kinds. Sausages, bacon, eggs, oatmeal, toast, and so much more.

Hermione and I made our way to my brother and Ron, taking a seat across from them. "Morning Lizzy," Harry called grinning excitedly. I could already tell that he had a great night, he and Ron were already getting so close.

"Sleep okay?" I asked sitting beside Hermione. Ron and Hermione glare at one another while Harry and I talk.

"It was strange, I guess I'm not used to it here. Not yet anyway." Harry shrugged. I piled my plate with toast, eggs, and bacon while Hermione got some porridge for herself. "Are you two roommates?" I nodded smiling softly to myself. I might not be used to Hermione just yet but I was glad I had a familiar face with me. "Same here."

Ron and Harry looked at each other grinning already forming some sort of bond within the last twenty four hours. We chatted for the remainder of breakfast before walking off to our first class. I could hear Ron grumbling about Hermione being with the three of us.

There were many things you needed to remember about Hogwarts. For starters there were wide stairs, sweeping ones, narrow, rickety ones, some that led somewhere different, some with a vanishing step half way up and that you have to remember to jump. Whoever designed the staircases must have been mad! Who makes steps that trip you if you aren't paying attention?!

Harry and I would laugh at each other whenever we would lose our footing throughout the week. Then there were the doors. Some of the doors wouldn't open unless you asked politely, or tickled them in exactly the right place. But yet there were also doors that weren't even doors to begin with. They were walls pretending to be doors.

Whenever anyone got lost you couldn't rely on asking for help from the ghosts. They were always either ignoring us kids or not sure themselves which was confusing since they lived in the castle. They've been here for centuries. And the paintings were always visiting one another so you could never get their help.

So far the only help I've gotten was from Nearly Headless Nick. He was happy to help his fellow Gryffindor housemates when it comes to pointing you in the right direction. But don't get my started on Peeves. Throughout the week he has been a non stop pain in everyone's side. He was by far the biggest jerk of all time. Worse than Dudley and his friends. Worse than Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia. He was horrible. He would drop wastepaper baskets on your head, pull the rugs from under your feet, pelt you with bits of chalk, spit water in your face, steal your books and hide them up high so you can't reach them, and sneak up behind you completely invisible, grab your nose and screech at the top of his lungs "GOT YOUR CONK!" before flying away laughing hysterically at your pain.

Mr. Argus Filch the caretaker was even worse than Peeves. He hated everyone and everything in this school beside his cat Mrs. Norris. Mrs. Norris while looked very adorable was just as mean as Filch. She was a scrawny, dusty colored, with lamp like eyes. She would often patrol the corridors alone, and if she thought you were doing anything wrong, Filch was always a few steps behind her.

Besides Filch and Peeves, everyone was really nice. I didn't have to deal with that jerk Malfoy much. He mostly kept to his group of weirdos. Hermione and I grew a lot closer and I started to feel more comfortable around her. I could tell she was really trying to be my friend and was willing to take it slow with me.

Classes were amazing! They were a lot more complicated than waving a wand and saying those funny words like Uncle Vernon had put it. On Wednesday at midnight Harry and I had to go to the Astronomy tower and got to learn about the stars and movements of the planets.

Three times a week we went to the greenhouses behind the castle to study Herbology with Professor Sprout head of Hufflepuff. In Herbology we learned about the different strange plants around Hogwarts and throughout the wizarding world. What their properties were, if they were poisonous or not, and what importance it was to the average Witch or Wizard. I won't lie, it wasn't my favorite class but it was better than muggle school.

Then there was History of Magic. When I first got to class I was super excited to learn everything magic through the ages, but then I met Professor Binns. Professor Binns was a ghost who had fallen asleep in a fire. He had woken up the next morning to teach leaving his body behind him. Yes that was interesting but Professor Binns liked to drone on and on, it didn't help that his voice was lacking of emotion of all kinds and it was just a monotone of boredness. He even sounded like his class bored him. It was so hard to stay awake. Hermione loved to poke me back awake when I started to doze off.

Charms was fun, Professor Flitwick was a tiny little wizard who had to stand on a pile of books to see over his desk. When he got to my name he squeaked excitedly and toppled over. The class laughed at his tumble, he later apologized but seemed to be super excited to teach. He introduced himself as Professor Flitwick and that he was the head of Ravenclaw house.

Professor McGonagall, the strict lady who taught Transfiguration and also the Head of Gryffindor, my house. She started off class with a speech. "Transfiguration is some of the most complex and dangerous magic you will learn at Hogwarts." Right away I could see Hermione's smile brighten with the idea of a challenge. "Anyone messing around in my class will leave and not come back. You have been warned."

As soon as she finished Professor McGonagall turned her desk into a pig. We all watched as the pig desk ran around the room for a minute or two before she turned it back into a desk. Everyone was amazed at that sort of magic. I was extremely excited to start learning! We didn't learn how to change furniture into animals but we did take a bunch of confusing notes.

Our first task was to turn a match into a needle. Now considering this was my first time actually using magic I had trouble. I reviewed my notes and concentrated like Professor McGonagall had said but I still couldn't turn my match into a needle. By the end of the lesson Hermione was the only one who made a difference to her match. Professor McGonagall had showed the class how the match had turned silver and the edge had became slightly pointy at the end.

In Defense Against the Dark Arts the room just smelled horrible, the stench of garlic ended up clinging to my clothes, my hair, even my books. The stench was stuck in my nose forever it seemed. Everyone said that it was to ward off Vampires. Or more specifically to ward off the vampire he met in Romania. Professor Quirrell was just too afraid that he or she would be coming back for him one of these days. Professor Quirrell's turban he wore was a gift by some african prince as a thank you for getting rid of a zombie. Zombies weren't real though right? They weren't real and going to eat our brains were they?

Seamus, one of Harry's roommates was really eager to hear how Quirrell had fought off a zombie but Quirrell went pink to the face and spoke about the warm weather, stuttering as he did so.

A week had already passed and it was time for our first Potions class. The class I was most excited to learn. Even though we had a double potions with Slytherin I still thought it would be fun. The entire week Hermione and I had talked about what we might learn in Potions, we studied together, and practiced our spell work.

I wasn't the only one to get a new friend though, Harry and Ron were becoming fast friends. They spent almost all their free time together exploring the castle, joking about things, home life, learning new things about magic or muggle worlds. I was happy for Harry but I missed him. He was my best friend after all.

Right now we were sitting at the Gryffindor table munching on breakfast getting ourselves ready for today's classes "Snapes the Head of Slytherin House. I heard he always favors them." Ron called to Harry from what he learned shoving his toast, eggs, and bacon in his mouth in a large bite.

"Wish McGonagall favored us…" Harry muttered. Just because Professor McGonagall was head of Gryffindor didn't mean anything. She gave every student the same large pile of homework.

"At least she doesn't favor anyone, she treats us all the same…" I called playing with my food. I was so nervous. What if I wasn't any good? This was the one class I was most excited for. What if I messed up and caused Gryffindor to lose points.

"I know but she could have given us a little less homework yesterday." Harry slumped his shoulders as he took a bite of his oatmeal.

Everyone heard the flutter of owls swooping in carrying packages or letters flying around till the owls found their respective owners. I still wasn't used to it. The first time they came flooding in was the first day of classes. The birds flew inside I like many other first year muggle students dove for cover. I was terrified that I was going to be attacked by the birds. Then Godric landed in front of my seat and fluttered his wings in my face. I never thought I would get a letter though, who would write to me? Not the Dursley's.

Like today, Godric soared through the Great Hall, flying overtop before dropping a letter in my lap and landed on my shoulder. Wait. Godric dropped a letter in my lap?! I ignored the sharp talons digging into my shoulder as I stare at the letter. I got a letter? Who would write to me? I didn't know anyone…

Tearing it open I noticed the messy handwriting at once.

Dear Elizabeth,

I know you get Friday afternoons off, so would you and Harry like to come and have a cup of tea with me around three?

I want to hear all about your first week. Send us an answer back with Godric or Hedwig.

Hagrid.

Godric was headfirst in my blueberry muffin making a mess, sending crumbs everywhere. I didn't even realize he had jumped off my shoulder. I couldn't help stare at the letter, reading it over and over again. A smile made its way to my face. Hagrid he knew we hadn't received a letter yet and he, he took the time to send us one.

"Hagrid send you a letter to?" Harry grinned excitedly. I nodded staring at my brother my heart felt so big right now, I started to really love Hagrid then. He was incredible.

"Yeah…" I ran the pads of my fingers under Godric's feathers watching as he fluffed up, his bright yellow eyes started to close and his body leaned in closer towards mine.

"Want me to send him the letter back?" I only shrugged, it didn't matter who sent the letter back to me, Hedwig looked like she wanted to deliver more mail. Godric shook his body, sending his feathered wings in my face. He needed to go. "See you tonight." I muttered softly watching him take flight once again.

Breakfast soon finished Hermione had grabbed my hand to help me get to class early. The first thing I noticed was how cold it was. Next the pickled animals floating in glass jars around the walls. Professor Snape sat at his desk watching all the students file in, his eyes moving over everyone who walked in.

Like Professor Flitwick, Professor Snape started by taking roll call, he took his time making everyone feel like they did something wrong or he was going to say they did. "Ah, yes," Professor Snape called pausing looking at my me and my brother. "Harry and Elizabeth Potter. Our new celebrities…"

Draco and his friends Crabbe and Goyle sniggered behind their hands at us. I was too nervous to do anything. My body tensed up and I almost didn't notice Harry grabbing my hand. Just knowing he was there with me helped me some.

After roll call Professor Snape went right into teaching. "You are here to learn the subtle science and exact art of potion making," his eyes raked over everyone to make sure everyone was paying attention. Professor Snape's voice was barely more than a whisper, but you could catch every word "As there is little foolish wand waving here, many of you will hardly believe this is magic. I don't expect you will really understand the beauty of the softly simmering cauldron with its shimmering fumes, the delicate power of liquids that creep through human veins, bewitching the mind, ensnaring the sense...I can teach you how to bottle fame, brew glory, even put a stopper in death ...if you aren't as big of dunderheads as I usually have to teach."

My leg started to bounce. I knew this subject back and forth, I could list off everything for any potion in my year one book. I just hoped my nerves wouldn't get the better of me.

"Potter!" Harry and I jumped having been called on so suddenly by our terrifying Professor. "What would I get if I added powdered root of Asphodel to and infusion of Wormwood?"

Who he was talking to I wasn't sure."I don't know, sir…" Professor Snape sneered in annoyance. Hermione's hand had shot so high in the air, I was sure she was about to stand so he would call on her. "Tut, tut...fame clearly isn't everything." He seemed to ignore Hermione's raised hand. His eyes locked onto my form. "Well?"

I could feel my face grow warm. Fear slowly started to creep it's way through my veins. "Erm...well…" I hated that I was so nervous.

"On with it." He growled. I felt the urge to turn into a turtle, hide away from everything and everyone one.

"I-It makes a sleeping potion powerful enough to be called the Drought of Living Death…" I muttered keeping my head down as I spoke. I could answer better if I wasn't looking at him.

"Let's try this again. Mr. Potter, where would you look if I told you to find me a bezoar?" Hermione's hand stretched even higher than before. "I don't know sir." Draco and his friends were shaking with laughter. "Thought you wouldn't open a book before coming, eh, Potter?" professor Snape hissed hatefully before facing my way again.

"I-I think that stone is taken from the stomach of a goat…" I muttered again keeping my eyes down on the ground. Focus on the floor and you'll be okay Lizzy. Just stare at the stones.

"Are you positive with your answer?" He called making me think I was an idiot. I nodded my head clutching the table. I was too nervous to look up. "At least one of you decided to crack open a book before school." While Harry was the brave one of the two refused to look away from Professor Snape.

"What's the difference, between Monkshood and Wolfsbane?" At this Hermione had actually stood up, her arm stretching toward the dungeon ceiling.

"They're the same." I needed to brave. Harry didn't know potions like his other classes. Professor Snape glared down at me, I could just tell. Harry's hand clenched tightly around my own, my leg continued to bounce rapidly.

To my relief Professor Snape turned around and I felt myself relax. "As Miss Potter stated Asphodel and Wormswood make a sleeping potion so powerful it is known as the Drought of Living Death. A Bezoar is a stone taken from the stomach of a goat and it will save you from most poisons. And Monkshood and Wolfsbane are the same plant, it also goes by the name Aconite." Professor Snape spun around and glared at his class. "Well? Why aren't you all copying that down?!" There was a sudden rummaging for quills and parchment paper. "And a point will be taken from Gryffindor house." My eyes widen staring up at the professor shocked. He couldn't be serious? We just answered his questions! "I will not tolerate cheating in my class Miss Potter." He thought me answering for Harry was cheating?! What the bloody hell was he thinking?!

Unfortunately things didn't improve for Gryffindor as the lesson continued. Professor Snape had put everyone into pairs and set us to mixing up a simple potion to cure boils. He had swept around the room in his long black cloak, watching all of us work. He criticized everyone who wasn't Malfoy, how he got on Professor Snape's good side I'll never know.

Neville the boy from the train who had lost his toad had somehow managed to melt Seamus's cauldron into a twisted block, the potion was seeping across the stone floor and burning holes in peoples shoes. Almost everyone was standing on their stools. But Neville, gods Neville was standing covered in the potion where the cauldron had collapsed, moaning in pain as angry red boils sprang to life over his arms and legs, anywhere there was skin.

"Idiot boy!" Professor Snape had snarled, clearing the spilled potion away with one wave of his wand. "I suppose you added the porcupine quills before taking the cauldron off the fire?" Neville whimpered as more boils started to pop up over his nose. "Take him to the hospital wing." He had snapped to Seamus before moving onto Harry and Ron.

"The lousy git can't even create a potion correctly." Draco called to his friends laughing quietly. I glare at my potion hatefully. He was such a jerk. I thought I wouldn't have to deal with another Dudley while at Hogwarts. "Are you okay Elizabeth?" Sarah my partner called nervously, she must have seen me get upset over this.

"Fine…" I wasn't fine. Potions was supposed to be my favorite class, I was so excited to be here and Malfoy had to ruin it. I wanted nothing more than to splash him with some of Neville's spilled potion but I knew that it would be bad for both of us and I'd lose house points.

"Problem Miss Potter?" Professor Snape called staring down at my shared potion.

"No sir…" I muttered loud enough for him to hear, I kept my head down into the pot, Sarah had let me stir the potion as she made heart eyes in Malfoy's direction. She like a few others in the class laughed at his mean joke. Then again she was a Slytherin so I wasn't surprised. Of course she would find him funny.

"Don't you think he's just dreamy?" Sarah had sighed leaning against her fist letting out a sigh. Briefly glancing over at Malfoy I couldn't believe she thought he was dreamy. "He's incredibly charming too, over Holiday I got to meet him and his family. His father knows my father and they had to conduct business. He's ever so charming and dashing when he was showing how his Quidditch moves." She explained barely glancing over.

"I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up dating. My parents would be so proud if I dated Draco," She let out another sigh of content just picturing their future together. I couldn't help but be disgusted. Draco Malfoy was a jerk and boys were gross enough as it was.

Class ended and Hermione promised we'd catch up while we do our homework. I don't think she wanted to be around Ron, Ron seemed to get into a fight with her so easily.

Ron was trying to cheer up Harry. "Cheer up, Snape's always taking points off Fred and George. Can I come and meet Hagrid with you two?"

"Of course!" I grinned hugging my books to my chest. I was really glad Harry got himself a new friend. I could already see how close those two were getting. A pang of jealousy kept returning every time I caught the two of them bonding.

I felt horrible for feeling this way, Harry was my brother, my best friend. He was able to have other friends. So why did I have this feeling? Was Harry going to replace me? Replace me with Ron as his best friend? No. Thats impossible, Harry couldn't replace me...could he?

I shook my head looking down at my books, thinking myself crazy. Harry wouldn't do that. "I'll meet you guys at Hagrids...I forgot my book." I muttered turning my body around again. Back to Potions.

"You want us to come with you?" Harry called turning himself, following after me. Ron not far behind. I felt joy replace the jealousy. A small smile making its way to my face.

"Thanks, but it's okay. I'll see you guys in a bit." I had no reason to be jealous of Ron, it was really stupid of me to think Harry would replace me. Everything was going to be okay.

"You sure?" Harry looked nervous to leave. Something in his eye said he wasn't sure if he should leave or not. I gave him an encouraging grin glancing between the two boys.

"I'll be okay, I'll see you at Hagrids." Harry nodded in understanding and both he and Ron left to Hagrids. It didn't take me long to get back to Potions classroom. I was quick to find my book on my desk.

"Miss Potter?" Professor Snape's voice called from his desk. He stared at me confused.

"I forgot my book…" I muttered softly walking over to my desk my fingers grazing over my alchemy book. I noticed Professor Snape nod glancing back at his paperwork. I was quick to grab my book and head on back. I needed to see Hagrid.

I couldn't help grin to myself. Hagrid sent me a letter. He didn't have to but he sent me and my brother a letter. "Hey Elizabeth." Draco Malfoy called. Appearing out of nowhere! I froze clutching my books to my chest. Why was he here? Why couldn't he have gone back to his room or something.

Draco grinned standing beside me. "Evening Elizabeth," he drawled showing how adorable he could be. Draco wasn't alone though, Crabbe and Goyle were right behind him. They looked bored staring into space waiting for their boss to tell them what to do.

"Malfoy," I forced myself to keep walking. I didn't want to be alone with him, besides I don't want to keep Hagrid waiting.

"What are you doing back down here? Did you miss me?" He chuckled with his friends. They raced after me, refusing to leave me alone. "Whats the rush?"

"I have to be somewhere." I muttered quickening my pace.

"Where? I figured we could go study together." he grinned quickly matching my pace.

"No thanks."

"How come?" Draco pestered Crabbe and Goyle not too far behind us. "Cause I've been thinking lately…" I couldn't help rolling my eyes.

"Thats a horrible idea…" I didn't mean to actually say that! I was just waiting for pain the longer we walked. Draco smirked shaking his head though, I didn't know if that was a good thing or a bad thing.

"Hush, now I was thinking about announcing our relationship later so…"

"Relationship?" I called completely flabbergasted "We aren't in a relationship. We're not even friends." I snapped. How could this idiot think we're a couple? We had two conversations together none ending well. How could we be in a relationship.

I'm not ever going to date him, he's so gross! Finally I made it outside the cool air felt nice against my skin. "Come on Elizabeth you know we'd be perfect together." I could only give him a strange look.

Yeah...no.

"Riiiiiight…" I muttered walking towards Hagrid's hut. I was very relieved when Draco didn't follow me. I don't want to even think about what would happen if I ever dated that jerk!

I tried to avoid the muddy patches in the grass, I really didn't want to end up tracking mud through Hagrid's home let alone having to clean the mud off my shoes. Unfortunately by the time I got to Hagrid's I was already fifteen minutes late. I felt bad for making them wait on me.

I knocked on the big wooden door not wanting to just barge on in, that would be just rude. Lying on the steps was a pair of galoshes and a large crossbow. I stare at it confused wondering what Hagrid would need with the crossbow but figured I could ask later.

There was a shuffling sound before the door opened. "Back Fang." Hagrid called holding his large slobbery dog back as I walked inside. The dog was just bouncing behind Hagrid with his excitement. He must not get a lot of visitors. I forced myself to walk in very weary of the large beast. Just the idea of him biting could break me in an instant.

"It's 'bout time you showed up little missy." Hagrid grinned welcoming me into his small home. It was nice and cozy, it just felt like home.

"Sorry Hagrid, I forgot my book in class and ran into Malfoy on my way back." Harry's head popped into sight from his chair.

"You ran into Malfoy? He didn't bother you did he?" A protective tone already seeping into his voice, I didn't even have to look at him to know he was getting defensive. A grin made its way to my face. I loved it when Harry got protective sometimes, it made me feel special.

"Not really." I took a seat across from Ron and Harry feeling the large Boarhound rest his big fat head on my lap. I could just feel the slobber start to sink into my robes. Hesitantly I placed my hand on the dogs head. He whimpered nuzzling further against my lap when I gave him a small pat. 'He must want more attention…'

Ever since Aunt Marge brought her beasts of animals she called a dog I've been pretty nervous around them. They're bites are horrible. I have the scars to prove it. But Fang...he might seem scary but he's just liked attention...He still scared me though.

Ron caught me up on what I missed while I was gone. I felt Fang lick my hand from where his head was begging for more attention. Hagrid was nice enough to get all of us a cup of tea. Well...the cup looked like a pitcher in my hands. He also gave us one of his homemade rock cakes.

You'd think they were made out of rocks. They were heavy and hard. Great for a paperweight. Or weapon if you think about it. No, no, I wouldn't want to get in trouble my first week of school.

When it started to get dark Hagrid sent us on our way back to the castle. Our robes filled with rock cakes.

"Remind me not to accept Hagrid's rock cakes again." Ron shuddered glaring at the large pastry.

"It's not that bad…" Though I'm sure if I bit into it again I'd break my teeth. They're called Rock cakes for a reason.

Though it was nice to see Hagrid again, even if I was covered in dog slobber. I couldn't get rid of my smile, I almost forgot about Professor Snape and Draco Malfoy. If we could avoid them or just deal with them school shouldn't be too bad.
