CHAPTER 6

Previously:

Jack however didn't have any helpers there was just Jack and the wind. Jack controlled where snow went and had to personally deliver the snow, or make the snow in cloud forms and ask the wind to take the clouds to their destination. Jack personally brought frost, and personally froze every lake, spring and river with a thick sheet of ice. Jack looked after the creatures in his domain personally. For example if there was a wolf cub stuck in a blizzard. Jack would personally come to that wolf's aid unless Seraphina forbidden it to happen. The same with humans, some humans Jack could while others he wasn't allowed to save. There always had to be balance.

Jack also had the responsibility to spread joy and fun, which he did even though he didn't know he was meant to be doing it.

For the next few days children would be without fun as winter was put back on schedule by the one and only winter spirit.

...

"Wind I can't do anything without my staff which was broken and is still in Pitch's lair. Without another staff I can't control my powers. I need to make another one," explained Jack as the wind impatiently tried to get Jack to the areas that needed winter the most. Thankfully Seraphina had agreed to take care of winter for a week

Jack had never broken his staff before but knew that he would need to make a new one, he just had to find the right wood to carve. The wood had to be able to withstand the cold, ice and Jack's powers. Jack would then have to carve out his new staff by hand or figure a way to make his new staff.

The wind took Jack to several different woods and forest over two days, where Jack tested every type of wood and tree that he can across. None of them could withstand Jack's power or the cold and ice that Jack's power brought.

Jack saddened by his lack of progress, began to think about what else he could do. It was the wind that saved Jack from his depressing thoughts by suggesting that he go and visit Sandy and asking for some advice.

They found Sandy at the North pole, Jack being curios as he was followed Sandy to find out why Sandy was so far away from civilisation. After a few minutes of following Sandy he realized that Sandy must be here to visit Santa, or North as Sandy called him. Jack just put down the reason as Sandy being on Guardian business. Jack divided to look around the big base that Sandy had just entered.

The home of Nicholas was located on a cliff of one of the many ice mountains to be found on the North pole. The building was a Russian style palace that was gigantic in size. The building was over-ridden with frost, ice and many different size icicles. The palace workshop had many buildings that each glowed an orange-red colour from the light sources inside.

Happily Jack began to explore the building by looking in each of the windows he looked through. After a while Jack came across a window that showed into an office type room that contained a huge table that was littered with varies tools and ice. Jack nearly had a heart attach when he realised someone was in the office like room. Jack smiled sadly when he realised it was North who was in the office, Jack spent what felt like hours as he watched North carve varies types of toys out of ice. He also realised that the ice North handled melted slower that usual, but still melted which North seemed disappointed about. Watching North work gave Jack an idea that felt right. He smiled and silently thanked North for helping him, even unknowingly, to figure out how Jack needed to make his new staff.

Jack smiled mischievously, all he needed now was wood which he would be able to find somewhere in the big palace. With a happy jump, Jack allowed the wind to carry him to the big red doors that lead to the inside of the palace. Not knowing what to do Jack knocked, on the doors and waited.

After a few minutes, the door opened. Jack came face to face with a grey yeti.

"Hi," said Jack with a hopeful smile, hoping that the yeti could see him. "I am Jack Frost, what is your name?"

The yeti just stared at Jack before grunting out :Phil.:

With that answer Jack's smile widened, "Hi, Phil can I ask a question? Do you have any wood shaving that you don't mind me having?"

The yeti looked surprised and then thoughtful. :Have some this way. Only follow me.: and with that said the yeti turned round and began to walk down one of the red decorated hallways. Jack followed happily as he was lead to a room that contained piles upon piles of wood and small piles of wood shavings that had been broomed into current corners of the room.

:Only allowed to take if you show me or tell me what you use it for: explained Phil.

Jack nodded with a small grateful smile. He began to go from pile to pile of the wood shavings picking out only the ones that felt right to him or the ones that called to him. After an hour of searching and finding, Jack had all the wood shavings he needed. The next step was for Jack to replace the shavings in a hooked staff shape, this took three hours to do as each shred had to fit perfectly.

Jack looked over his shoulder to see a sleeping Phil. Jack woke the yeti up and then went back to his half finished staff. Curios Phil watched intensely as Jack placed his hands gentle on the fragile staff structure. Phil gasped as he saw millions of shiny blue ice practicals and snow flakes, come out of Jacks glowing hands and engulf the staff structure. Phil watched in awe as the ice and snow filled in all the cracked and spaced between each Shrewd of wood. Once the staff was stable, jack froze the whole staff in a thin but thick layer of ice that would never melt, and would make it too cold for anyone but jack to hold. Jack inspected his new staff but felt that it was still unfinished. He then smiled as he realized it didn't have his frost designs on it like his old staff did. Another three hours went by as Jack used a needle made out of ice to carve his fern-like designs in to the thin layer of ice that surrounded his staff. Once he was happy Jack tested his new staff by using it to make frost designs on the walls that surrounded the room.

"Thank you Phil. Thank you very much," exclaimed Jack with a happy smile as he tackled Phil with a hug. "Can I see the toys or better yet talk to-" but before Jack could finish his question the door room was swung on pen with a bang.

Phil acting quickly put Jack behind his back so that he was hidden from view as an angry North came into the room.

"Phil, where have you been! Workshop is in chaos and elves are making mess. You area the head yeti you are suppose to be helping manage the workshop, while I work. So where have you bee?!" Screamed an angry North.

Phil felt the winter spirit sake in fear behind him before telling North :Was tired. Came here for a nap and lost track of time. Am very sorry:

North just looked disappointedly at Phil before storming out the room muttering in Russian about useless yetis and needing cookies.

Once North was gone Jack began to repeatedly tell Phil how sorry he was. But was stopped by a furry hand covering his mouth, and the smile on Phil's face.

:Don't worry. What are friends for: explained Phil as he calmly lead Jack our of thee palace and back outside. :Come over to visit, tomorrow. Will be busy today:

...

The next day Phil found a letter and a pouch. The yeti took the items and went to his room for some privacy. Phil empted the pouch onto his bed, two objects fell onto his bed. One of the items was a pure ice star that had Phil's name in elegant writing that was carved in the centre of the star structure. The second object was a small pouch filled with a blue snowflakes that let off a light glow of power. Phil then went to the letter and began to read it.

(Dear Phil,

Thank you for taking the blame. I can't tell you how much you saved me yesterday, not just from North. Sorry if I ruined you relationship with North. I wanted to thank you in person but being the Winter spirit makes me very busy at the moment. The star is your to keep, its made out of my special ice that will never melt. Since I caused you so much trouble I am giving you a special gift that can help you with making North happy. Each snowflake in the bag is special, each one has the power to freeze a pond size water source. The new frozen water will become like my special ice, it won't melt for about 50 years no mater how much heat is placed near it, by it or even on it. Hope this helps.

Your are a really good friend, and thank you again.

From Jack Frost :-P )

North was over grateful for the ice and would keep pestering Phil for years to come to try and find out where he got the special ice from.

After a couple of months Jack began to try and break in to the workshop after Phil had told him he wouldn't be allowed to give him a tour. And as the years went by Jack's reason for breaking in changed. It wasn't to see the toys any more or to be able to talk to North. Jack came for the simple reason of companionship, as he played his game with Phil, and soon all the yetis and elves joined in on the game as well.
