Yuri's POV~

"Have you even been home Tomoni? How long are you going to keep avoiding it?"

"That's none of your business."

Locking eyes with the man before me, I let out a light sigh, as I slowly step away from the small bed.

"Fujioka, I need you to take a patient for me."

"Why won't you ever answer me Yuri? Look at what you're doing to yourself, do you think they would've wanted this?"

"No one asked you, you don't know anything. You made sure of that."

"It's not about us. This is about you Yuri. Have you even taken a good look at yourself?"

"Listen, I'm far too busy to be babysitting some brat, so take the file and leave me alone."

Shoving the files towards him, I notice the look of confusion pass behind his eyes.

"Misaki Yata? But you were so attached to this kid."

"It's like you said. He isn't Sachi and I no longer want to be reminded of it."

Pushing my way past him into the hospital wings, I began my rounds.

It was never easy being a doctor, we had new cases every day, we were over worked, attacked and blamed and we even spent hours crying over those that we lost.

Some people think we are robotic, not having emotions when it came to the decisions we had to finally make, but it wasn't like that.

All we wanted was to save as many lives as we could, to help as many people as possible but not everyone could be saved and no matter how hard you tried, no matter how long you cried for them, it wouldn't change that reality.

As I slowly began to pull on my scrubs, I looked down at the all too familiar green gloves, as a nurse helped me into my gown.

I walked through the doors, as I looked down at the young girl laying on the operating table.

"Are you nervous Aiya?"

"No, you're here Yuri. You'll make sure I'm safe, right?"

Every surgery had its risks and this one was no different. This little girl, only 6, needed a Tumor removed. She had put on such a brave face for someone so young and I couldn't bring myself to answer her.

"Count down from ten for me, ok Aiya?"

"Ok."

As the mask covered her face and her voice became quieter with each passing moment, I watched as her eyes closed.

"Alright, let's get this done. I'm sure no one wants overtime."

"Yes doctor."

As the Jazz music played through the background, everything was going well so far. We had located what needed to be removed, but it was bigger than we had initially thought.

I now had to prep this little girl for another scan, another surgery only days after we had finished here. There was no doubt the cancer had spread and the chemotherapy hadn't been working like we'd all held hope for.

"Doctor, her heart rate's dropping."

As I look up towards the nurse, I bit the inside of my mouth to hold back the words I wanted to say.

"Get the gauze. We have to contain the bleeding. Hurry up!"

Trying to locate the bleeding had been harder than I had first expected, as the situation slowly began to plummet further and further down. I had my hand pressed firmly against the spot, as the nurse worked around me to finally contain it.

"Doctor, her pressure isn't going back up."

As I watched the situation worsening, I could feel my stomach drop, as the flat line echoed throughout the room.

"Prep the defibrillator now."

"Yes doctor."

Pressing my hand against her chest, I began to preform CPR. I waited impatiently for the nurses to be ready.

"Ready doctor. Please stand clear."

I watch as they prepped her, placing the pads against her small body, as her body jolted from the first charge. I could feel the tension hanging heavy through the room, as the nurses waited for my next orders.

"Again."

"Charging."

"Clear."

Nothing. There was nothing. No response, not heart beat, no life.

"AGAIN."

"Doctor."

"I SAID DO IT AGAIN!"

"Yes doctor."

"Charging."

"Clear."

As her little body jolted once more, I held my breath, waiting for a rhythm to begin.

"Doctor, she's gone. You have to call it."

As I look down at the young nurse touching my arm, I slowly breathed out a sigh.

"Yes, time of death, 12.38pm."

"You just couldn't keep fighting, could you?

Aiya, you were always so brave for your parents. Please just know that."

As I looked down at the young girl's peaceful face, I felt the tears slowly coming to my eyes, as I ran my hand across her cheek.

"Doctor, I'm sorry, would you like me to go inform her parents?"

I saw the tears tumbled down the young nurse's cheeks, as I shook my head.

"I just need a minute, to get cleaned up."

As I stood before the doors of the waiting room, I watched the hopeful faces of her parents that I would soon be crushing with the cruelest of realities. I had to force myself through the door, as I watched their eyes coming to focus on me.

"Doctor Tomoni."

As her mother quickly grabbed my hands, a smile plastered across her features, I had to fight away my tears.

"Are you finished so soon?"

I shook my head no, as I placed my hand on top of her head. Her smile began to fade, as the tears sprang from her eyes. Her husband quickly came to stand beside her, as he gave me a hopeful look.

"I'm so sorry, Mr. & Mrs. Amori. There was nothing I could do."

I watched as her mother broke down into tears and her father stood there, silent trying to comfort his wife from the pain of losing their child.

"How? How did this happen?"

His voice was so small, as he looked towards me, searching for an answer I couldn't give him.

"She was such a strong girl. I'm so sorry."

As they slowly left my side, I felt the guilt taking control of my heart, my body wanting to crumble to the floor, as I willed myself to stay standing.

"Hey doc."

As an all too familiar voice broke me out of my thoughts, I looked towards the chestnut haired teen.

I wouldn't face him today.

Slowly turning away, I proceed up the stairs to the roof of the building to let my sorrows out.

Yata's POV~

"Hey Doc."

Noticing the all too familiar brunette standing there, she quickly turned and walked away from us.

"That was weird, normally she'd be on my case by now."

"Hey Mr. Mikoto, where are you going?"

As I watched him follow the doctor, I felt a lump form in my throat. What was going on?

As a male doctor came and stood before me, I watched as he pushed his glasses further up his face. I couldn't help but wonder what he was doing here and why they doc has just left all of a sudden before, but I was quickly drawn away from my thoughts, as he began to speak.

"Hello Misaki Yata. I'll be your doctor for today. I do apologize. Doctor Tomoni got called in for surgery."

"Oh."

Was all I could muster, as I followed him into the small office.

"You've been taking care of yourself, right?"

As he raised an eyebrow towards me, I quickly nodded my head, not wanting to face Yuri's wrath again.

"Good. I'm sure doctor Tomoni will be glad to hear it."

Sitting on the bed, he began the examination.

Yuri's POV ~

I held the smoke loosely in my lips, as the tears streamed down my face and the scent of nicotine filling the air around me, as I leaned over the rail.

If only it would rain, I would have every excuse to continue sobbing like a fool.

I heard the door open. but I didn't turn around for the newcomer. No doubt, it was someone from my nursing team wanting their own salvation.

"You're crying."

As a hand brushed against my cheek, I looked up to stare at the red haired man before me. I slowly fell into his open arms, wanting to find some form of comfort in my darkest hours.

"It's just the rain."
