"What? Why are they here?" Kate whispered as she followed Dean down the hall.

"My guess is they want to talk to you about your Uncles murder." Dean said as he continued down the all pulling Kate by her arm behind him. "Shit!" Dean said before quickly ducking into the room at the end of the hall. The front door at the bottom of the steps was all glass. And standing in front of the door was a police officer. If they went down the stairs he would see them. "The back door is unlocked, so it wont take them long to come in looking for you."

"Me?" Kate said surprised.

"Yes you." Dean responded as he poked his head out of the room to see if the officer was still at the front door. He was still standing at the door, but his back was turned. "Give me your bag." Dean said, Kate handed it to him as he checked the door again. "Come on." he said taking the bad with one hand and Kate's hand with his other. The two rushed back down the hall to the last room. Dean pulled Kate inside and handed her, her bag.

"What are we doing in the bathroom?"

"we need a way out." Dean said opening the window that lead out to the room of the back porch. "Figured I would be easier for you if we could climb down." Once again he took the bag from Kate and climbed out the window with it. Kate didn't waist any time following him out as she heard voices coming from the hall. After closing the window shut Dean lead Kate over to the edge. Seeing that no one was around he dropped the bag to the ground and started to make his way down. Dean sat on the top of the roof with his legs over the edge. He held on to the top as he lowered his body down before dropping to the ground. He motioned for Kate to follow. She looked back at the window they had just climbed out of before looking back down at Dean. Kate sat down on the roof and followed the same moves that Dean had done and the two were quickly running away from the house.

They ran a few blocks before they saw Sam waiting for them in the Impala.

"Let's go." Dean said as they got in. After a while of silence Kate spoke up.

"What did you mean when you said they were looking for me?"

The brothers exchanged a glance at each other before Dean answered her. "The police found your Uncles body after they put the fire out. The way he died was obviously murder,"

"Yes, I get that."

"The police reports are saying it could have been you." Dean said turning to look at Kate in the back seat.

"I don't understand? Why would they think I did it?" Kate was confused. Why would any one think she would kill her Uncle.

"The little evidence that they do have points back to you." Sam told her as he continued to drive.

"What evidence?" Kate said with a hint of panic in her voice. "What do they have?"

"Well your finger prints are everywhere including the engine that killed him." Sam stated.

"I helped take that engine out a few days ago. Of course my prints would be on it." Kate said angrily.

"You were the last to see him and was there when the building was on fire." Sam added.

"He's my family and I lived with him. That would probably mean I was the last person he saw." Kate was even more angry. Everything was pointing to her, but she didn't do it.

"We never said they were smart cops." Dean said wanting to get Kate to calm down, "But it all adds up." He said reaching to the back putting his hand on her arm. "The scratches on your face shows them that he could have scratched you in a struggle." Kate looked up at Dean, ready to come back with a reason why it didn't make sense, but Dean continued first. "The building on fire makes them believe you where trying to cover up the murder and get rid of any evidence. And you were the only one there when Mike got hurt."

Kate looked out the window and let it all sink in.

"Kate, we're sorry this happened to you." Sam said looking at her from the rear view mirror. "But this life isn't easy. Those cops have no idea what really happened and wouldn't believe us even if we told them. They need someone to pin it on."

"I get it." Kate said softly, "Is this why you wanted me to come with you?" She asked them.

"No, not at first." Dean said, "But after we heard the police were looking for you; we figured it wasn't just to ask you a few questions."

"Guess I owe you guys again for saving me." Kate said looking into Deans eyes as he was turned in his seat looking at her.

"You don't owe us anything." He replied. Kate gave him a small smile before turning to look out the window again.

It was dark when Kate sat up in the back seat, not realizing she had fallen asleep. The Impala was parked at a gas station, both brothers were standing outside of the car as Dean pumped the gas. Kate opened he back door and stretched her legs as she got out.

"Where are we?" She asked.

"A gas station." Dean said with a smirk as he pulled the gas pump out of the tank.

"I can see that. I was trying to figure out how much longer of a drive we still have." She said glaring at Dean.

"We have fourteen hours left." Sam said.

"So are we stopping to eat and rest?"

"Nope, we can grab some food here and we are getting back on the road." Dean said as he closed his gas cap up.

"Don't you guys need any sleep?"

"I slept all night; so Sammy and I will switch now till he get tired." Dean stated.

"I'm rested too. I can drive if you want." Kate offered them.

"I don't think so." Dean said with a laugh.

"Why not?"

"No one drives my baby but me and sometimes Sam." Dean said, "Does anyone want anything?" He said as she headed towards the main building.

"Orange juice and a muffin." Sam called.

"Water and a breakfast sandwich." Kate called before he disappeared inside. "He really wont let me drive will he?" Kate asked as she turned back to face Sam.

"Nope." Sam gave a small chuckle.

"Why wont he? It better not be because I'm a girl."

Sam gave an even bigger laugh at her statement. "No, he doesn't let anyone drive it. It was our dad's car. Dean has gotten very protective of it." Sam said as he opened the back door. "But I will let you ride shotgun." He said getting in the back and closing the door. Kate opened the passenger door and got in.

"Are you sure he will let me?" Kate said in a sarcastic tone.

"He wont mind. And it gives me the whole back seat to sleep!"

Once dean came back to the car with the food, they all ate in silence.

Not long after they got back on the road and Sam fell asleep.

"We have fourteen hours. Any questions?" Dean asked glancing at Kate.

"Yeah a lot." She said giving him a smile.

"Shoot."

"How long have you been doing this?"

"Pretty much our whole lives." Dean said once again looking at Kate to see what her reaction would be.

"That must have been hard growing up." Kate said it more as a statement and not a question.

"It was." Dean said. He couldn't believe how well Kate was taking everything. He kept waiting for her to brake down or freak out. But she didn't.

"Did you enjoy it?"

"Sometimes." Was all Dean said. Kate nodded her head and looked out the front windshield. Dean didn't want her to stop talking for some reason, so he went on. "It wasn't always good. Most of the time I really hated it. We were always on the road. Bad motels and bad food. But it also came with perks." He gave her a smile. "How many kids can say they killed ghosts."

"Probably not many." Kate responded.

"There were times that I hated my life."

"Why did you hate it?"

"Our life wasn't what you would call normal. Sometimes I wish that it was."

"You could have stopped." Kate said.

"No, I couldn't" I couldn't have done that to my dad."

"What do you mean?" Kate brought her knees up on the seat and turned towards Dean. Dean had no idea why he was opening up like this to Kate. He never talks about this stuff. Even with Sam. But with Kate it was different. She wasn't judging him or thinking her was a freak. She really seemed to care about what he was saying. And she wasn't scared by it.

"Sam went off to college and I couldn't leave my dad to hunt alone." He said not going into what it was that they were hunting and why. Yellow-eyes was a whole other story for another time.

"It must have been nice being with your dad and brother like that." She said.

"Looking back at it, I know it was. But growing up always looking after Sammy and wishing I could just g hunt with my dad; I didn't think it was so nice." Dean said.

"It was your job to keep your brother safe. Looks like you did a good job." She said glancing in the back sear at the sleeping Sam.

"Ok, now it's my turn." Dean said.

"For what?"

"To find out more about you." He said giving her a wink.

"Did you want to become a mechanic or was that why your Uncle wanted?" Dean was still surprised that she worked on cars.

"Both. I grew up with my Uncle and was always at his shop. He would teach me about different tools and car parts. As I got older he started letting me help him on different things in the shop. I grew to enjoy it. It was almost peaceful getting to take the engine apart and fix them." Kate smile grew as she talked about her past.

"I can honestly say you are the first female mechanic that I know." Dean said giving her a smile.

"Maybe I an teach you a thing or two."

"I doubt that." Dean said.

"And why not?"

"Come on, I have been working with my dad on this car since I was a kid."

"I have been working with my Uncle on cars since I was a kid." Kate started as she looked over at Dean, "It's because I'm a girl!"

"What? No."

"Yes it is." She practically yelled at Dean.

"I didn't say that." He yelled back.

"The other day you said that secretary's couldn't be mechanics."

"That was when I thought you were a secretary."

"Could you two stop yelling, so I can get some sleep." Sam said from the back seat. Kate and Dean both looked back as Sam who was still laying down with his eyes closed.

"Sorry." Kate said.

"Sorry Sammy." Dean said "Why don't we just listen to some music."

"Sounds good." Kate replied.

The rest of the car ride was mostly silent. For the next six hours Dean drove with Sam sleeping in the back. When they pulled over for gas, Sam took over driving and Dean slept in the back. And for the next fie hours Sam and Kate made small take. When Dean woke up they pulled over to stretch their legs and to get something to eat. With only three hours left og the drive Dean when back to driving.
