Chapter 7 – Flight

Summary: Tsuna didn't really know how it happened. One moment he was walking down the street and the next he ended up in a very dark room with people not really looking very happy to see him. Moreover, what caused Tsuna to panic at this was the sight of the first generation of Vongola along with an adult looking Reborn. Apparently Tsuna was quite infamous in this parallel world...

EDIT 24/8-15: One word edit - There's nothing new, explanation of this in the next chapter~

It was freezing. The heavy chains surrounded him. He knew they were there, even if he couldn't see them.

"Help…"

His lips were cold, his whole body shivering yet he couldn't do anything about it. The chains refused to let him move. Why wouldn't they let him move now again? Oh right. He was stuck with them. Imprisoned. Nowhere to escape.

"Help…"

If someone only could hear him, then they might get him out of here.

"It hurts…"

The cold pain wouldn't fade even for a few seconds, always being just enough to keep him shivering which lead to the chains almost strangling him more than they already did.

"Yuni please… Get me out of here…"

Yuni… The name was clear. He wouldn't forget her. If anyone could get him out from there… it was her, right? Yet there was never any answer. Not even from his parallel selves. Everything was cut off.

And it hurt.

"Anyone?"

He left out the quiet sob. He couldn't give up yet.

He couldn't let HIM win.

"HELP!"

Tsuna gave up a huge yawn as he tried to not fall asleep after Shamal had shaken him awake early this morning. The few days that had passed since the train ride and the encounter with the Estraneo Famiglia, both him and Shamal had been on the run through different towns and more secluded places which didn't have too many ties to the mafia as the bigger cities. It had been very tiring as they took several risks with flying to keep a faster pace when just walking. They had been avoiding as much human contact as possible and were now on their way, well at least what Shamal would think to be the best idea for now, out of the country and take refuge someplace else.

During these few days Tsuna had hardly had any good sleep as he felt worried over where they would be heading after they got out of Italy. He had suggested Japan to Shamal which the doctor got really confused over and asked why specifically they should be heading to Japan.

"Because… There's where I live and was when before I ended up in this world?" He had explained with uncertainty. It had been a very awkward moment afterwards as Shamal had been gaping at him. When the brunet had been asking what was wrong the doctor had shook his head and praised him for his "Italian" being so good that he never could have guessed.

Only problem was…

Tsuna had no recollection of knowing Italian, or speaking it since he got here either. He had only spoken Japanese. The conversation after that had been very confusing for both parties as Shamal insisted he was speaking Italian and not Japanese and Tsuna denied it with close to panicky explaining he didn't even know a single phrase of it at all and that it was Shamal that was speaking Japanese to him at this very moment. That in its core was weirder than what Tsuna usually had to deal with.

They ended up dropping the subject as none of them could figure out what was going on and solely focus on their task at hand; getting away from the Vongola and the other mafia famiglias. The weird "breaking of the language barrier" didn't feel too important at this moment.

Tsuna stretched his arms as his whole body was seriously aching after he had used the Hyper Dying Will mode so many times these last few days without the help of the pills or a dying will bullet. He felt rather exhausted still and the lack of sleep didn't help as they couldn't afford to sleep in too much. Tsuna was sure he had a headache coming in at full force soon if he didn't manage to get a real good sleep.

They had been sleeping in a forest as for now, with no civilization for a long distance just to feel at ease until they would reach the airport at the east side of Sicily as Tsuna had been told from Shamal. It was the one that was furthest away from Palermo but it would hopefully cause less suspicion.

Tsuna couldn't help but to have a small feeling in his guts with whatever they choose to do would definitely get them noticed one way or another.

It was just a matter of their chances of getting away from them when that happened.

"Are you ready to leave Tsuna?"

The brunet looked up at Shamal as the doctor was leaning in and gave him an encouraging pat on the back.

"I'm afraid if we have to keep this bad cycle of rarely getting enough sleep is going to be difficult later on. We'll head off to Japan when we get to the airport. Hopefully we can get some more rest on the plane. You look rather exhausted."

Tsuna sighed.

"I guess I am."

They weren't far away now from the airport and Shamal had made their last preparations for their tickets before they would arrive. But he had to be more cautious this time around as several mafia famiglias were already hunting them down. Shamal however had his fair share of contacts that could bypass their problems at hand to get themselves a pair of new identities and tickets for Japan. Tsuna had a small voice in the back of his head asking why they couldn't have done this a long time ago.

The small brunet once again yawned in exhaustion and noticed that their cab had arrived just a few meters away and Shamal had already gotten into a conversation with the driver. They knew they were taking a risk but they deduced this was the easiest way to avoid as many people as possible.

The drive to the airport was kept in silence but Tsuna didn't mind it and took a small nap as he couldn't hold up his eyes anymore. For once he felt more relaxed than he'd been the last few hectic days. But his nap felt too short when they arrived at the airport and hurried their way in.

So far everything was going well.

"No, no, no, that won't do!"

Verde took off his glasses in frustration and glared at the offending pill. So far he just couldn't manage to figure out its exact formula which his mind was way too excited to figure out. But so far there was always something missing. One small ingredient left to figure out. Even with samples and more or less taking the pill apart to its smallest form every machine had shown some sort of unknown factor that was interfering with the results.

And it was starting to get frustrating.

His mind had again and again went through the pills effects and properties hours upon hours and the only thing now standing between him and the results was that unknown factor.

Something that shouldn't… couldn't exist.

Verde pinched the bridge of his nose and let out a groan. He wasn't even sure why he was taking so much offence to this as he usually was calm and collected with his research but this… thing was going against his science and he had nothing to build on in this moment. He was stuck.

He despised being halted in his research, but that was under normal circumstances only because he was ordered to work on something else or someone interrupting him in his experiments.

This was on a new level of annoying.

"I'm missing something… Just one small detail and I would solve it…" He murmured deep in thought, letting his equations and theories play in his head. He didn't miss a single detail, all was there. It was the pill… it had the audacity to include some element, if it even could be described as that he wasn't sure, that didn't exist.

The box of pills had been found dropped from their mystery "Double-Ombra" that had been running around and still hadn't been found. If anyone in this world would know anything special about it maybe he knew. But he had been described as a kid. Verde felt his mood become even sourer than before. There was a very small chance of a kid actually knowing the combined elements of a dying will pill. No regular person in the mafia even knew the formulas of the usual dying will pills, only the more capable scientists did.

Verde sighed and got up from his chair, leaving the sphere-shaped abomination along with his other experiments at his desk and walked out from the lab. When these kinds of things happened, which often involved that runt Ombra, the scientist just needed a break from it all and instead observe things that did make sense. Earlier dealings with what Ombra had cooked up and what Verde had to deconstruct from very strange bombs and the like and other contraptions that had made him want to really give that man a piece of his mind with tinkering with science.

He could at least have the finesse of having an invention that made sense for once. Dealing with anything related to Ombra was a nuisance compared to anything else.

Verde made his way throughout the base. Not sparing a glance to anyone who might have greeted him along the way. No, his mind was still filled with calculations and theories around the pills. It did however feel better without having to look at the charts and the thing itself. He didn't stop walking until he was at Talbot's personal lab where he didn't even consider knocking on the door before stepping inside.

"Talbot?" He called out in the bizarre-looking lab. Even this kind of lab gave him the irritating vibe of handling the concept of "mystic" contraptions. He knew however what a genius Talbot was in this type of area and maybe, just maybe he could at least get a hint of what to make out of the formula. If it wasn't connected to scientific facts; Talbot was sure to have something to say about it which might put him on the right path.

That didn't say Verde felt awful for even asking about that thing.

"Ah, right here my boy! I'm in the middle of something splendid! Come, come in!"

Verde mentally winced at the man's joyful mood. In contrast to himself who despised anything that Ombra occasionally cooked up it was Talbot that loved to go all out on the wanted man's inventions and plans.

"Did you find out anything special about the sample I gave you earlier?" Verde asked through his clenched teeth.

"Ah yes! Over here! I did found something very interesting you see! Come, come!"

Making his way through the badly lit lab Verde found Talbot at the messiest part of the lab at a desk. The old Talbot sat excitedly around one of his devices and took note after note while glancing up at one of the dying will pills Verde had sent him beforehand in case something like this would show up. He had hoped this wouldn't be the case but alas; Ombra would just not stay in the realm of common sense.

"I found a rather odd sensation from the pill, as if it's coated in a substance of a rather interesting material! The material however is not really there you see, it's layered over as in a different plane of existence. It's simply fascinating!"

"Another plane of existence… As in a parallel world of some kind?"

"That could be one explanation indeed! But as the object itself does exist in this plane of existence that you and me live in yet this substance does not…"

"…You mean the pill in itself was originally from that plane of existence?"

"Yes, yes!" Talbot replied excitedly, close to lose control with containing his eagerness. "The coating is the after-effect from it being brought to our plane. A sort of melting of ice to make it stable for the time being. It would probably fall apart from the strain in being in a different atmosphere all of the sudden if my suspicions are correct."

Verde felt his mind click. "Ombra didn't really… With your invention…"

Talbot nodded. "I believe he managed to jump into a parallel world. And to keep both worlds stable he…"

"…Switched with his parallel self." Verde finished and jumped up. Making his way to the door. "I'll notify Reborn and the others; we can't let them harm the kid until we're sure that won't mess up out plane of existence."

Talbot watched Verde leave and took a deep breath. As much as he was excited of the discovery Verde had the right idea of letting the others know that they couldn't take the risk of this parallel version of Ombra would cause huge disturbances in just being here.

"Yes, please hurry!"

Tsuna glanced at his ring while trying to get comfortable in his seat on the plane. So far nothing had gone wrong as it had on the train or when Reborn almost had caught him earlier. His Vongola Gear however continued with looking strangely vague in its appearance, being almost unrecognizable with the strange blurriness around it. Maybe it had something to do with the language barrier being broken? The fact that as Byakuran had stated it being seemingly impossible to jump into a different parallel world as in regard what had happened to "Ghost" yet here the brunet was without any bigger issues than apparently speaking in Italian and having his Vongola Gear acting funny.

The teen stretched his limbs from his sitting position as he heard some satisfying pops. They were about halfway to Japan at this rate and it was sure to be a long flight and they would need to change flights several times. Tsuna was happy to having time to rest up on the plane until they would need to be careful at the airport again. His intuition was silent for once and the headache had subsided.

And yet he felt a sense of unease about it all. He was indeed in a parallel world, somehow intact mind you, and then there was his counterpart, this Ombra who had a "funny" sense of humor of stirring up trouble in the mafia world and mess with Vongola of all famiglias. And with how Ombra had planned out how his counterpart Tsuna would be shipped between Varia and then later on Shamal and avoid the Vongola at all cost. Tsuna felt like maybe it would have been better to just stay in that cell without causing more trouble and at that point would have foiled Ombra's plans. It was too late now though but the brunet did put the thought of confronting the Vongola, as long as they wouldn't try to kill him, and set things right to try to figure out what Ombra really was up to.

The thought of Ombra causing trouble in his own world worried him to no end. Was everyone okay? Had Ombra targeted the Vongola on his side? Tsuna wasn't sure how he'd react if Ombra had hurt anyone. If he had… Tsuna wouldn't let that happen. He needed to find a way back.

Maybe Kawahira could help? Tsuna hoped his intuition was right with him still living in Nanimori, which they were heading towards at this moment. Maybe he'd have some answers.

"What are you thinking about kid?"

Tsuna jumped at the question. "HIEEEE WHAT!?"

"Sheesh, take it easy. I was just asking." An amused Shamal looked at the teen a smirk pulling at his lips.

"I- uh… Was just thinking about if a person I know lives in Nanimori."

"Does that intuition of yours make you unsure?"

"Well… no but…"

The doctor gave a small chuckle. "Well, I might not really get your intuition for knowing these things but. I too just have this intuition to trust you on this."

The brunet widened his eyes. "Really?"

"I'm probably going nuts or the lack of sleep is finally catching up to be though. But this Nanimori might be our best bet for now. With you being from a parallel world and all I guess there might be possible to some things being the same right? Not everything being different?"

"Y-yea. Since you're still a underground doctor and all that." Tsuna smiled. "And well, even though the timeline is horribly different I am glad to see some familiar things."

"How much did the time differ now again?"

"Uhm… Well Primo and his guardians are from 150 years ago who founded the Vongola. And well, the time is similar to this one but… Can I ask you something?"

"Sure?"

"Do… do you know anything about box weapons or… Vongola Gears?"

The underground doctor was silent for a minute as he seemed to look over the question. "Well box weapons are a thing within the mafia, I believe that it's only the Vongola who has the necessary resources to make them though. Haven't seen anyone else than Vongola or famiglias in alliance with them having box weapons."

Tsuna gulped at the thought. So those powerful weapons did indeed exist here. He continued. "And the Vongola Gear?"

"Never heard of it. All I know about the Vongola is more general knowledge and some extras no thanks to Him…" Shamal replied with not pronouncing Ombra's name. The mention felt more like a curse than anything else.

"Ah…"

"So what is exactly a Vongola Gear? Something from your world?"

"I guess, yes?"

"Do you have one of those… gears?"

"Well uhm… " Tsuna looked down at his ring, which still looked as blurry as before.

Shamal raised an eyebrow. "Is your ring a Vongola Gear?"

Tsuna hesitated for a few seconds before nodding. "Yea, I guess they are my advantage here for now. But I should try not to show it off too much."

The doctor snorted. "You're probably right about that. Heck, even you managing to get into Hyper Dying Will mode without any bullets are quite amazing. I only know of Vongola Primo being able to do that."

"I see." Tsuna felt himself go nervous again. He really didn't want to find out in person if that was true or not… better yet if Primo had any kind of box weapon that he could use. "I hope I never need to fight them…"

The doctor snorted out a laughter. "Yes, I really don't think we want to fight them head to head. No, I'd like to live a bit longer kid, if you don't mind."

A raven haired nine-year-old stood silently in the middle of a backyard, holding his steel tonfas ready for anyone who'd dare to attack him. Someone was watching him from afar but he was sure he'd be able to fend them off. That didn't mean he was getting more and more irritated at them for taking so long to attack.

A wind blew past him as he swung around to meet his attacker and he narrowly moved his head to the left to not be hit by the incoming leg aimed at his head. Another swing from his attacker hit his side at the momentum and the raven haired kid almost lost his balance for a few seconds before raising his tonfas in retaliation. He managed to block three swift strikes from his older opponent and lunged forwards with his tonfas hitting nothing but air, his feet stopping at the infuriating restrictions. His opponent seemed to dance around his every swing and be able to hit him hard as he frantically tried to defend himself from the blows.

Every time he tried to defend his temper rose with seething for the man. He hated to be on the defense instead of getting to rip his attacker apart. Within minutes he was all out of breath but refused to fall down on his knees as his opponent stopped his onslaught with a sigh.

"Kyoya that won't do."

Kyoya felt humiliated to have lost (again) to the man in front of him. If he hadn't been restricted to have his feet bound he'd won. He loathed this training as it restricted his movements.

"You need to work more on your defense, that's the point of this training. If you can't defend when your movements are restricted…"

Kyoya snorted. He knew already, but that didn't make it less annoying. He didn't need to defend, he just needed movement to defeat the threat. "I'm NOT a herbivore. I won't let such a thing happen to begin with."

His instructor sighed again and seemingly started to walk away, his equally raven black hair swaying back and forth in its long braid on his back.

"Take a break until you got this figured out Kyoya."

The nine-year-old complied with cutting the rope binding his feet and made his way in the opposite direction towards the gate out of their backyard. I silently seethed by himself as he decided to take a stroll through Nanimori. He started to calm down as he walked the most emptied alleys and streets to avoid any human contact. The crowding would only make his mood worse.

Deep down he knew I was doing the exercise wrong, the point being defense which he greatly disliked when he wasn't able to move like he wanted to. His instincts refused to cooperate with handicap methods as all he wanted was to let loose and do it his way. But no, his instructor or more or less Uncle Fong was fully set on doing it the more boring and downright awful way of his.

No, Kyoya Hibari wanted no restrictions at all.

Nanimori in its glory was the perfect town for him as not too many people lived in it, with many spaces he could hang out without anyone disturbing him. If anyone would dare he'd bite them to death with his tonfas until Fong felt the need to step in. Secretly Kyoya wished for another carnivore to make its appearance in Nanimori so he could go all out on someone who'd be a decent opponent. Fong never went serious with him so it was no challenge at all to begin with. Fong never struck back unless it was one of his specialized training sessions and those were what Kyoya disliked the most.

All he needed was a strong opponent.

One he could bite to death with a challenge.

Carnivore, omnivore or heck even a strong herbivore would do the trick.

He needed to let loose.

He wanted to roam free.

Just like a cloud should do.

As Tsuna and Shamal arrived at the Nanimori airport they quickly made their way to a hotel to rest for the night after the long flight. Tomorrow morning they would need to get a better place to stay as Shamal was thinking of hiring a bigger house just to be able to operate a bit better. As for now they were safe from the mafia as Shamal pointed out that there mostly only was Yakuza in Japan anyways. Tsuna, too tired to argue about any extra safety precautions went along with it as it were.

A good night sleep was definitely what he needed and tomorrow they hopefully would get a better place to stay.

He just hoped nothing weird would happen. He needed a break from it all.

Too bad Tsuna was a magnet for trouble.

A/N: Oh boy…. OOOOOOOOH BOY THERE'S 500+ OF YOU NOW!? SERIOUSLY? WAT. THANK CHU :D

Uhm…. Well, I really don't have a "good" excuse as how this update took nearly 2 years.

I'd try excusing myself with: University, No motivation for writing, no clue how to continue… wait no.

I am really really sorry for this taking so long :'D But I am sort of back into writing a little again (finally). This chapter was however STARTED on the 1-year anniversary of my last update back in August 2013. I just read it through from time to time to cry at my horrible beginning of a story with no real plotline to follow. Luckily almost 2 years of thinking back and forth I may have a solution :D Yey me! And I'm actually trying to make sure that some weird things here will make sense in the future… just bear with me while I'm trying to sort everything out in the next few chapters, kay?

Thank you guys for being so patient! Sheesh, I am so slow with this update but hopefully I'll be able to write a bit more again. Since I really want to continue this and I've rewatched a lot from the KHR anime to freshen up some memory. I'll look into the manga again too to try making it more flowing and *cough* "believable".

Also, box weapons for the First generations will be a thing C: Harrharr~

I'm already working on chapter 8 so it miiight come out sooner or later~ I'll try not taking 2 more years guys. Promise!

Also yell at me if you find any stupid evil weird grammar k? I am hopeless :'D

Thank you also for all the reviews/Favs/Follows! Love to read what you guys think!
