Hey guys! Yes I realise I'm a terrible person for taking so long. I'm trying! I really am! Promise! I hope you enjoy this chapter :)
P.S. Sorry about the paragraphs before! I thought I'd forgotten to do something before publishing. I'm an idiot! anyway enjoy :)
Stupid Parker! Stupid! Stupid! Peter repeat the mantra of self-loathing in his head as he dodged yet another taxi. How did they find out?! He thought he'd been careful! Always check for security cameras, only going to Gwen for medical treatment! Oh God Gwen! Did they know about her? I should have left her out of it! Stupid Peter!
He thought of heading over to hers but the tingling hadn't left yet and he knew he would just be leading danger in her direction. They could have people surrounding her building. Peter was torn. He needed to protect her but he wasn't sure if they would do anything. He patted his jeans pocket while narrowly avoiding running into a elderly couple going for a evening scrolled. He blessed the universe that he still had his phone on him. Gwen would call him if she encountered any problems.
He had to get away quickly. Find a place to hide out until the heat died down (He prayed it would died down) and he knew just the place. He took a sharp left down another street hissing as his side flared with yet more pain. If he remembered correctly there was a manhole in the alley just down the street. He made it there easily and within a few seconds he had dropped down and landed on one of his web lines. He started making his way towards what he called the main web. It wasn't far from where he had entered.
He had upgraded the web since he and Connors had their fight. Extending the web lines down more tunnels and creating a second level above the first one. The second level was created mostly for Peter's own sanity. Being on the lower one didn't exactly bring back pleasant memories and he only spent a few seconds on it before climbing up higher. Peter settled himself on the upper level. Well...as settled he could get with his spidey senses still blaring at him and his hip bleeding.
He slightly regretted going to his safe haven for sanctuary but he had the higher ground (literally) in his own territory. Luckily for him he had kept his web shooters on after his patrol and also had most of his costume still on under his clothes. He had left his mask, gloves and shoes in his bag that he regretted taking off. He groaned running his fingers through his hair as he regretted this entire situation.
His head was buzzing painfully as his brain tried to comprehend everything. Worry for Gwen and Aunt May mixed with worry for himself, which mixed with the pain from his hip and that all mixed with the constant pulsing of his senses. His head was pounding so intensely he wanted nothing more than to block out the world to deal with it. He knew he wasn't going to get that option when his enhanced hearing picked up on the sound of splashing coming from one of the tunnels. He started to move toward the tunnel opposite that one. If he could get out he would lose his base to these people but hopefully the web would distract them enough for him to get a head start. Then he heard noise coming from that one as well. Oh Joy!
"You sure he went down there?" Stark asked as he smoothly landed and let go of Steve. As soon as Cap's feet hit the ground he was rushing to Hawkeye's side beside the manhole cover. Like he had said, it was lifted up slightly.
"No Stark! I'm kneeling here because I dropped a nickel" Clint retorted.
"Geez, calm it birdy!" Stark said as his face plate lifted up.
"Why would he go down there in the first place?" Bruce asked as he stared at the cover in interest. He couldn't quite understand Peter's logic behind going into such a place.
A hologram projected from the Iron Man suit onto the alley wall. It showed the sewer tunnels that ran under New York. " He's trying to lose us but if we enter through the manholes here, here and here. One of us should cut him off". The Captain explained and they all nodded in agreement. "Natasha, you take this one. Clint, take the one to the east and I'll take the north one". Clint and Natasha nodded and Clint started to head towards his manhole. "Tony, keep surveillance. If he comes out then keep an eye on him". Tony saluted before his face plate went down and he flew off. "Bruce..."
" I know. Just go" Bruce cut him off giving him a small smile. With one last nod Steve started running north.
"Everyone stay on comms and report if you see him." He commanded through the comms.
Natasha pulled the cover off and got ready to climb down when Bruce cleared his throat. "Try not to scare him" He had a worried smile on and Nat gave him a nod before jumping down. She landed with a splash and instantly checked her surroundings. The first thing that struck her as out of place was the web that was pulled tight and ran what she guessed was the entire length of the tunnel.
"Are you guys seeing this?" Hawkeye said into this comm.
"What the web?" Nat asked making sure they were talking about the same thing.
"I've got one too" Cap said plucking the web and watching as it vibrated.
"Captain, I don't think he's running" Natasha said.
Peter was trying really hard to ignore their voices. They were only making him panic more. He recognized the female voice as the one who had started this whole mess. All three of his exits were blocked and he was so screwed. There was always up but he didn't doubt that they would have a helicopter or something. He didn't want to tango with another one of those. Peter just about jumped out of his skin when one of the web lines trembled. They were close. Too close!
"A web?" Tony's disbelieving voice bounced through the comm link. "You think he's made a web?" It wasn't exactly easy to comprehend.
"It's like Clint's nests, a sanctuary" Natasha explained walking down the tunnel. With the help of Stark they had found the point where the three tunnels met which just happened to be a large open space.
"but in the sewer?" Tony questioned.
"It could be an instinct from a mutation" Bruce thought out loud as he paced the alleyway waiting for Natasha to return.
"Think about it, if you were him wouldn't you?" Clint explained also making his way to the meeting point.
"Fair point" Stark said a pout evident in his voice.
Natasha stopped dead in her tracks. She'd been holding onto the web line for support as she walked down the cramped tunnels but she froze as her hand touched something slippy. She brought her hand up to look at it to find slick red blood. She examined the wire to fine it covered in a fairly large amount of blood. She quickly went on the comm "Stark, He's injured" She warned continuing onward.
Before Tony could answer a new voice echoed down the tunnels towards the three. "Stark? Of course that rust bucket would be involved in this!" Peter had been trying to keep quiet but hearing that had compelled him to shout out. "Of course he didn't want to 'chat'! Stark doesn't think of others!" Peter hid his head in his hands finding his gulliblness unbearable.
His head snapped up when he heard the unmistakable sound of repulsor jets. Of course Iron was hovering into his web through the upper exit. "Hey! The names hurt you know!" Stark's narcissistic voice called out as he continued to lower himself until he was hovering just a few feet above Peter's head level. He kept his distance which was good for Pete.
However what wasn't good was the web lines that Iron Man was slowly melting with his repulsors. Peter knew if he snapped too many that the whole structure would collapse him into the waters below. He could not go for a dip again!
He acted on impulse, Shooting webs at the metal man. "Yo! Kid! Whaooo!" A shot hit his boot repulsor head on and sent Iron Man flying into a wall. Peter continued to shoot even as One or two web lines snapped and made the web shake. Soon enough Iron Man was completely webbed to the wall.
The only reason Pete stopped was because his web-shooter hissed signalling he needed to replace the cartridge. He cursed under his breath realising his refills were in his bag. Peter had to admit he may have over reacted a bit but this was his web and Stark was not invited.
"Not cool!" Tony complained as he tried to move his...anything. None of the weapon compartments were able to open and his repulsors were clogged with webbing. His face wouldn't even open fully! Luckily Peter had left a large amount of his helmet un-webbed so Tony could take in the sight in front of him. It was bizarre looking at Peter. He was crouched like the bug and if you imagined his mask on you would be sure it was him but It still seemed unbelievable.
"Not cool?! Not cool?! Oh Yeah because tricking me is just so cool!" Peter was mad, partially at himself but mostly at the tin can in front of him. First he makes Peter look like an idiot and then He tries to wreck his web and send him into a panic attack. Pete was so joining the 'I hate Tony Stark' online club when he got out of this. If he got out of this.
"Peter..." Peter's head snapped down to see Captain America emerging from the left tunnel and It was only then that he also noticed the blonde haired man with an arrow trained on him. Pete's instincts took over and one shot of well-aimed webbing quickly stuck his arrow to his bow. The man looked shocked and a bit pissed off.
Peter could take his eyes off the man. Something about him was making his mind do back flips. As if it was yelling at him about how much of an idiot he was. His eyes widened as it finally clicked. "Y-You were at my school!" Peter accused and his spidey sense flared like it had been doing all day. Oh goddamn it! Peter wanted to hit his head off the wall behind him. IF he made it out alive he promised to never ignore his senses again. 'They are obviously smarter than I am!'
Steve sighed knowing that this was not going well. He removed his mask before speaking again. "Peter, we are not trying to hurt you." The teen's head snapped back to him and his eyes widened further before they filled with rage.
"Really?" Peter sneered. Did they really think he was that stupid?! He was not falling for another one of there traps!
"You're injured, you need medical attention" Natasha said from below him having just fully emerged from her tunnel.
Peter just about jumped out of his skin at her voiced and quickly moved to the centre of the upper web to get away. "I don't need anything but for you to leave!" Pete said swallowing the lump in his throat. Okay...so maybe he did need a couple of stitches and maybe he was a bit dizzy but it was nothing he couldn't handle.
"No, kid, you definitely need to see a doctor." Tony said getting a good look at the large blood stain on his hip. He hoped that Bruce had gotten that hint to be ready to act because this kid was going to need him to be.
"Shut it, Stark!" Peter yelled getting really annoyed. Who were they to act concerned about him?! If it wasn't for them he would already be at Gwen's getting it stitched up.
"Kid, please, listen to us!" Clint pleaded wanting to get the teen to Banner as quickly as possible. Sure he'd webbed his bow but that didn't mean he wanted the kid to bleed to death. He took A tiny step forward hoping to get close enough to a web strand he could use to lift himself up to the upper level.
"I am not a kid! I haven't done anything wrong and you-" Peter's sentence got caught off abruptly because as he took a step in the opposite direction to the bow and arrow guy his foot landed on one of the structurally vital web strands. One that just so happened to be half melted by Iron man's grand entrance. It snapped under Peter's weight.
