A/N: I am so sorry for the long wait! I have been super busy with softball practices and babysitting my brothers and watching tv... I'm so sorry that it took so long to update. I've also become a part of a few new fandoms (Oncers, Grey's Anatomy, American Horror Story, a few others...)

I also have so many other stories that I'm working on right now; 9 to be exact, and I'm working on a few that I will not be posting for a while, too.

My fic "What If" is nearing it's end. I've had a few people ask if there will be a sequel, but I highly doubt it. If enough people want more, I may write a prequel, showing the events before Jane was in a car accident.

Anyways, sorry it took so long! I hope this chapter makes up for it.

A/N 2: Big thanks to my wonderful friend and extravagant beta NetflixandFanfics (go give her a follow and check out her new SwanQueen fic I'm helping her with).

Previously on The Girl in The Mask...

"Honey," Casey said. "Come in here and meet the guests."

"I'm just finishing up with dinner." Footfalls echoed through the room as Casey's wife came into view.

"Sorry," she apologized. "I'm-" She stopped dead in her tracks when she saw me, and both of our eyes widened.

"Honey?" Casey said, nudging her.

"Sorry," she said, her eyes snapping away from me. "I'm Jane."

When I thought of all the possible things that could go wrong tonight, never did it ever cross my mind that this would happen.

"I'm Maura." Maura shook my hand and then I shook Garrett's hand.

"Garrett Fairfield."

"Do you two know each other?" Casey asked, his eyes flickering between me and Maura.

"Uh, no..." I replied. I knew that if Maura lied, she would get hives. "No, why?"

"It just seemed like you two recognized each other."

"No," I shook my head.

"Okay... Well, uh... Is dinner finished, honey?" Casey asked, wrapping his arm around my waist and kissing my cheek.

"Yes."

"Alright, if y'all are ready, why don't we go ahead and eat?" Casey offered.

"Yeah, we'd love to eat."

"Right this way," Casey said, leading us into the dining room. In the middle set our dark oak dining table, and above that a giant crystal chandelier.

"I'll go get Emily and Carson," I said.

"I'll help." Maura got a few strange glances from the kids and our husbands, and she turned to Casey.

"Carson can be a handful sometimes," she explained. "I fear that if your wife goes up to get him, he will want to keep playing and won't come down for dinner."

"Alright, that's fine," Casey smiled. As Maura and I got to the top of the stairs, I grabbed her forearm and pulled her aside, her back pressed against the wall.

"What the hell are you doing here?" I asked.

"Well, I'm here for dinner. Your husband invited us."

"Well I know that," I sighed. "I just mean... What are you doing here? I didn't know you were Greyson's mom."

"Step mother."

"Still," Jane said. "If I would've known, I would've convinced Casey that having your family over was a bad thing."

"It's not," Maura frowned. "Don't you want to see me?"

"Of course I want to see you," I chuckled heartily. "But that's what I'm worried about."

"I don't follow," Maura furrowed her brows and shook her head.

"I'll want to see all of you since we didn't finish in the hot tub the other night, and that's what worries me. I can't hardly stand to be around you and not be able to kiss you, to touch you." Maura looked into my eyes and placed a quick, chaste kiss on my lips.

"We can sneak in little touches and get away for a minute, okay?" I nodded. "I promise."

"Okay," I replied, smiling. She kissed me one last time before I led the way to Emily's room.

"No!" I heard Carson say. "I don't want to play Barbie's."

"Kids, time to eat," I said as Maura and I walked into Emily's bedroom.

"Yes!" Carson said as the kids shot out of the bedroom and ran down the stairs.

Once Maura and I got to the bottom, Addison turned to me.

"What are we having, Mom?"

"Steak, baked potatoes, and green beans," I answered.

"Oh, you prepared steaks?" Garrett asked.

"Yes, is that alright? If not, I can make-"

"No," Garrett smiled, and I had to admit; he was very endearing. "Steak is our favorite."

"Well then I assume we will get along very well," Casey smiled. "That's one thing we have in common." Casey and Garrett sat on one side of the table, and Carson and Emily sat at a small table that Em wanted me to set out just for her and Carson and Em. Me and Maura sat on the other side of the table, Greyson and Addison on one end, Jocelyn and Faith on the other.

We passed the food around and I poured a glass of wine for us four adults, sparkling cider for the children.

"So, Coach Jones," Garrett smiled, taking a piece of his cut steak. "What was the point of this dinner?"

"Well, I just wanted to have the family of my best football player over for dinner to meet the two people who made this miracle," he smiled.

"Oh, I'm his step mother," Maura explained.

"Oh. Well then, the two people who raised this miracle." Maura and Garrett smiled.

"Stop," Greyson blushed. "I'm not that good."

"Greyson, you're the best quarterback I've ever had," Casey said.

"Well, I don't mean to brag but Greyson is an amazing football player," Garrett smiled.

"He's the best kid I've ever coached, on and off the field. He's making an A in my history class, too. He's wonderful."

"Thank you," Maura smiled. "I can hardly take any credit. Garrett did most of the raising."

"Oh, honey, you did your fair share." Maura glanced at Garrett and smiled. As much as I hated to admit it, they were cute together.

"I also wanted to tell you... I have some good news," Casey smiled brightly, taking a sip of his wine. He looked at Garrett beside him, and then back to Greyson.

"What is it?" Greyson asked.

"I've got scouts from all over that are coming to watch the game next Friday. Do you want to know why?"

"Why?" Greyson asked.

"To watch you. They heard about you and they've already got a whole bunch of scouts coming to watch you. BCU Tigers, USC Trojans, Miami Hurricanes, Florida State Seminoles, and even the Stanford Cardinals are coming." Greyson's eyes widened, and so did Maura and Garrett's.

"B–but he's only a freshman," Maura said.

"Yeah, and that should tell you something if he's already being scouted. Greyson, you've got some real potential, and I remember hearing that BCU, USC, and Stanford were actually fighting over you the other day."

"Wow," Greyson scoffed unbelievably. "How did they hear about me?"

"I sent them your highlight video," Casey explained.

"Coach," Greyson laughed. "Thank you so much! You don't know what this means to me."

"I do," Casey smiled. "I had a bright future ahead of me in football, before I got hurt in the army. I lost everything, my whole life, and had to quit. Florida State had just accepted me and I was planning on going that fall.. Then I got hurt, and couldn't play anymore. I was heartbroken. That's why I turned to coaching, it was the closest thing to playing I could do."

"Wow," Greyson smiled. "You know you're my hero, right?" Garrett flinched at this, and Casey smiled brightly.

"Thank you, son," Casey replied. "You're my hero, too."

"So, Coach, we're all done eating," Greyson said. "Why don't you tell my dad your story."

"Sure," Casey smiled.

"I'll gather the dishes and clean the kitchen," I said, throwing a knowing glance towards Maura.

"I'll help."

"Great," I smiled. Emily, Carson, why don't you two go play upstairs. I know we interrupted your playing."

"Let's go!" Carson yelled excitedly as they got up and took off towards the stairs. Faith and Addison stayed behind to listen to Casey's story, one that they'd heard a thousand times before.

"Jocelyn, honey," Maura began. "Do you want to listen to the story?"

"Yes ma'am," her daughter replied, smiling. I nearly melted at the sight. She looked exactly like Maura. Honey blonde hair curled and cascading down her shoulders, hazel eyes with flecks of brown and green. And that one single dimple on the left side of her face that could melt my heart to stone.

"Alright, honey," Maura smiled, her own dimple appearing. I grabbed all of the dinner plates as Casey started his story and Maura and I walked in to the kitchen. I set the dishes in the sink and I wiped off the counter tops.

"Aren't we going to do the dishes?" Maura asked.

"No," I smiled. "I can do them tomorrow."

"Oh," Maura said, furrowing her eyebrows. "Then what are we going to do?" I smirked, and Maura suddenly caught on.

"Oh," she said as she took a step closer, and I wrapped my arms around her waist and pressed a chaste kiss to her lips.

"Let's go somewhere else," I said, pulling away and walking into the dining room in the middle of Casey's story.

"Sorry," I said when Casey stopped to look up at us. "I just came to get our wine glasses."

"Where are you going?" Casey asked, furrowing his eyebrows.

"Just into the study," I said.

"Okay." Maura grabbed her wine glass and I got mine, and filled them up before heading to the study. Almost as soon as the door closed, Maura's lips were on mine and my back was pressed against the door. Her hands were all over me and I nearly dropped my wine glass.

"Maur," I said, panting as she finally broke the kiss and began kissing my neck. "M–Maur. Not here, not now."

"Jane, it was so hard not to pounce on you during dinner." I grabbed her wine glass out of her hand and set them on the table beside the couch, and Maura quirked a brow at me. I brought my lips to her neck and kissed her, bringing my hands up to her shoulders.

And then I shoved.

She fell into the couch with a loud 'UMPH!' I smiled triumphantly as I straddled her and attacked her neck with my lips. She moaned loudly and I chuckled as I covered her mouth with my hand.

"Shh," I prompted. "You're gonna get us caught." Maura quickly flipped us over so that she was on top, her thighs on each side of my hips. She brought her lips down to cup my face, and I put my hand on her bare thigh. She moaned as I slid it up and under her dress.

I caressed the inside of her thigh before moving up and grazing my thumb across already wet lace.

"God, Maur," I groaned. I moved her underwear to the side just as the door to the study opened.

Maura flew off of me as if I had burned her, and we both look like deer in headlight's as we stared at the person standing in the doorway, hoping they hadn't seen anything.

"Oh. Hi," I said, nervously.

"Um, what were you and Mom doing?" I glanced at Maura and we both had wide eyes, slightly parted lips, and blushed cheeks.

"Uh, we were talking about work," I replied.

"Okay, um.." Carson looked between Maura and I, and I hoped the young boy didn't really know what his mother and I were doing.

"Dad wanted me to come and get you," Carson said to Maura. "I think we are leaving."

"Already?" Maura asked unbelievably.

"Yeah, he said work called and some client needed his help." Maura scoffed.

"Of course." Maura glanced from me to Carson and smiled kindly at her son. "Will you leave Jane and I alone for a minute to say our goodbyes?"

Carson nodded before closing the door, and as soon as it shut, Maura sighed heavily.

"You okay, Maur?" I asked.

"Yeah," she nodded. "Fine. It's just, Garrett is always working. Always, always; he never has time for the kids and I. Jocelyn won't even claim him as her father, but I don't understand why not."

I frowned.

"I'm sorry, babe." I pulled her into a hug and kissed her forehead. "If you and the kids ever need a place to go, you know you're welcome here, right?" I pulled away. "And not just because of our relationship. You're a wonderful woman, Maura. You deserve the best. You and your kids." Maura smiled gratefully at me and kissed me.

"Thank you," she said as she stood up. "We better get going."

"I guess so," I replied, pulling her into a long hug.

"I want to see you soon," she whispered into my hair.

"Go to the hotel room tomorrow night. Casey is taking the kids to their grandparents, and he won't be back until tomorrow afternoon."

"Maura?" The study door opened and Garrett peeked his head in.

"Are you coming?" he asked.

"Yes," Maura replied, pulling away from me and straightening her dress, smiling at him. "I was just saying goodbye to Jane."

Garrett outstretched his hand for Maura to take and kissed her on the forehead.

I followed them out and into the foyer, smiling as I saw the kids all saying their goodbyes. I walked over to Casey and he wrapped his arm around my waist, kissing the side of my forehead.

"Thank you for inviting us, Coach," Greyson said, shaking Casey's hand. "Dinner was wonderful, Mrs. Jones."

"Oh, thank you," I smiled. "We enjoyed having you. Call me Jane, and come again."

"We will," Garrett smiled. "Actually, we're having a party in a few weeks. I just got promoted to head of my firm and there will be a lot of important people there. We'd love for you to come."

"Oh," I said, my voice going up an octave. "That would be lovely."

"Yes, thank you," Casey smiled.

"Of course," Garrett smiled back. "Maura will call you tomorrow with all of the details, Jane."

"Thank you," I smiled. Too many fake smiles. Ugh.

"Come on, kids," Garrett said, and all three of their children said goodbye as they walked out the door.

"I'll see you soon," I said.

"Yeah, see you soon," Maura smiled lovingly as Garrett led her out of the house. She threw a smoldering smile over her shoulder and I couldn't help but smile back as I closed the door.

"Casey, do you want to–"

"I'm going to bed," he cut me off. "Have to get up early to take the kids to my parents.'"

"Oh, right," I smiled.

"I'll see you in the morning," he said, kissing my forehead.

"See you in the morning."

"I love you," he said as he walked up the stairs. The way he looked at me with slightly pleading eyes, scanning my face for any trace of doubt... It was like he knew.

"You too."

I walked into the living room and saw all three of my girls curled up on the couch, watching a movie.

"Hey, girls. What are you wa–" I didn't even have to ask. "Frozen?"

"Yep," Faith replied. I rolled my eyes and shook my head, chuckling as I sat down on the couch. Faith and Emily curled up into my side, and it was moments like this that I cherished most.

The moments where it was just me and my girls, cuddling up with a blanket and watching tv.

The moments where it was silence except for the occasional laugh, or off-key singing of the Frozen soundtrack along with the movie.

The moments where I felt bad that I was betraying family.

The moments where I felt bad for being with Maura.
