Hey all thanks for checking in for chapter seven. This chapter will continue the arc that will last the next five chapters. I hope that you enjoy it. I want to apologize for the delay in getting this chapter out. Finals were ridiculous so I spent all my time studying. Luckily I aced all of them, so that helped. My semester is now over so I will have more time to spend on writing, and I should have the next chapter out by Saturday.
Azure Blue Espeon: Thanks for your review. I apologize for the choppy dialogue, it kind of just ran away from me and I didn't notice it, so I tried to fix that in this chapter. Writing in an accent like Sebastian's is new to me so I'm working on it. The effects of Christopher's time travel will be explained in this chapter, though I'm sorry Lisa does not play a part. Message me what your idea was though because I would love to hear what you thought. Thank you for your continuous help, I really appreciate it.
Vulcanlover12: I apologize for the cliffhangers but I want to build suspense and they kind of work for me. I'll definitely be updating more often now that school is out.
Kallista2: Thanks for the review, I'm glad that I was able to surprise you with that twist. I really enjoyed writing Sebastian even though the accent is tricky to get so I'm glad you liked it. As for the French sentences, I don't speak French and I basically just used a translator so I apologize if they were not correct, I'll try to fix that in the future. This jumping into time will break Christopher out of his issues a bit, so don't worry about that. It is Daniella, I try to catch the mistyping of her name but I miss it sometimes.
Voodoo-Mutant-Child: I'm glad to have you back. Thanks for the review.
DevilsGamexxDevilsPain: I'm glad you like it. Natalina and Nico will be kind of on the back burner for right now.
S.H.I.E.L.D-Agent-Phoenix: Thanks for the review, I'm glad you liked the chapter.
Thanks to everyone who reviews. It really helps me out to see what you all think. I really do appreciate it. I hope that you enjoy the chapter.
Memories of the Fallen:
Chapter 7: Future tense.
Seven miles from the school,
Amber said nothing as the group walked through what remained of this Michigan forest. They had travelled several miles already trying to make it to a nearby town. Amber had searched most of the broken down mansion and was unable to find anything worth recovering. The damage was extensive and she could find no remains of anything living inside.
The realization that Christopher had somehow transported all of them to wherever, or whenever this was hit Amber hard. She had always known Chris could be powerful, but this was just crazy.
Part of her was worried that they may not be able to get back home. Chris could bring them back, at least he could if he had control. As upset as she was, Amber couldn't find it in her to blame him though.
"Nicholas can you sense anyone out here?" Amber asked.
"No, but I am getting that feeling."
"What feeling?" Kail asked Amber.
"As you know Nicholas is a very powerful telepath."
"Yeah."
"Well he also has a slight ability to predict death."
Kail looked bewildered at her answer.
"Predict…death."
"Yes, quite accurately too, though he never knows who it is." Amber turned to the rest of the group. "Ok guys we need to hide, Nicholas has felt the presence of death."
A scream was heard in the distance. Kail instinctively ran towards the source.
Kail where are you going?" Daniella yelled out.
"Someone is in trouble over there, they need help."
"Kail dis is not our time, ve must not tamper vith de natural order of dis vorld."
"Are we in the past?"
"I don't think so." He answered.
"Then I have nothing to worry about. Helping people is what we do isn't it?"
The rest of the group stayed planted where they stood and Kail ran on ahead over the hill.
"Guys we need to help him." Daniella finally said.
"You know how dangerous it is to do things like this when Nicholas has his predictions. They are always right." Amber responded.
"Which is why he can't be alone right now."
"I agree with Daniella on this one." Nicholas told Amber.
"I do too." Chris said somewhat reluctantly.
"Ok, then let's get going." Amber gave in.
It wasn't that she didn't want to help, she was more or less concerned by Nicholas's prediction. She had lost friends before and she did not want to experience that feeling again.
"You made de right decision here Amber Howlett." Sebastian said to her.
"I hope so." She said quietly as she watched her friends run towards the unknown.
"You cannot keep blaming yourself for vhat happened that day."
"Nicholas had the same feelings then that he had now, and I didn't listen, so yes I can."
"Just remember, he didn't listen either." Sebastian said as he walked away.
…
Kail ran over the hill and what he saw stopped him in his tracks. A girl no older than eight was running from what looked like a large humanoid robot. He recognized the machine from past simulations.
"A sentinel."
The girl saw him and began running in his direction. The sentinel located Kail and began to analyze him.
"Humanoid scan begin, mutant confirmed, identity scan, error, error, scan systems not functioning, impossible identification detected. Mutants targeted, eliminate."
Kail saw the sentinel walk towards him and began to focus on its body. It was definitely made with metallic alloys. He focused on the metal within the structure of the machines body. He found his grip and he pulled.
"Systems locking up, mutant possesses magnetic capabilities. Anti-magnetism shield activate."
Pulled as hard as he could and the Sentinels arm was ripped from its body. Afterwards he lost his pull on the main body. He realized that the Sentinel was able to shield itself from his powers. He still had control over the arm however. He aimed the arm at the Sentinels chest and sent the arm flying through the robot. The sentinel fell to the ground in a heap of metal.
"Systems failing, all functions shutting down. S.O.S signal engage."
Realizing what this meant Kail ran towards the fallen sentinel and transformed his arms into blades. When he made it to the sentinel's body he jumped onto its chest and severed the head. The signal was stopped but it was too late. Four more of the machines came flying in and landed, surrounding Kail.
"She got away," Kail said to himself. "I guess the prediction was about me."
"Systems armed." All four sentinels reverberated at the same time.
Kail closed his eyes as the sentinels raised their hands and pointed their palms at him. The centers of their palms began to glow brightly. He readied himself or the pain that he had no doubt would come. But it never did.
Kail heard a loud explosion and opened his eyes. One of the sentinel's heads was ablaze and fragmented. He looked to the top of the hill and saw the girl that he had saved. Next to her Christopher stood aiming his rifle at the remaining three mutant hunters. Nicholas was with Daniella, whom was healing the girls arm.
Christopher fired another round which impacted the chest of a second sentinel casing the, machine to fall to the ground. Unfortunately that was exactly where Kail stood. Daniella watched as the sentinel fell on top of Kail and she gasped in shock.
Her shock left as she saw a figure climb up from beneath the sentinel. It was Kail, now in his adamantium form and he was luckily uninjured. His arms again became blades, as he took the momentary distraction of the battle, and he cleaved through the legs of one of the two remaining sentinels. The surprised machine collapsed under its own weight to find a waiting Kail who decapitated it.
Only one Sentinel remained and it started moving towards the four on the hill.
"Mutants Located, scanning, mutant #1 error, Mutant #2 error, mutant #3 Daniella Roberts class 5 threat, priority kill, mutant #4 Ravenna Maryiad class 5 threat, priority kill."
Kail ran up to the last sentinel and jumped. He stabbed the machine in its back. The sentinel pulsed and a strong electrical current coursed through Kail's metallic body causing him to fall to the ground with a thud. A sickening crunch could be heard as he hit the ground hard, no longer metal.
"Kail!"
Daniella was terrified of what had just happened. A shadow jumped over her as the sentinel reached for Ravenna. The sound of metal tearing through metal could be heard. Daniella looked up to see Amber claws deep into the head of the sentinel. She ripped her claws through the machines mainframe and jumped away as the head exploded.
Sebastian ran up next to the rest of the group as Daniella made her way over to Kail's body. Her hands began glowing green as she laid them on top of his chest.
"Is he ok Daniella?" Sebastian asked worriedly.
"His breathing is shallow, I think his ribs might be broken."
"Can you heal him?"
"I don't know, I've never had to heal injuries this bad before."
Amber walked over to the rest of the group, and knelt down next to Kail.
"I warned him about this. Nicholas is never wrong."
Daniella began to glare at Amber and went back to working on Kail.
"Daniella save your energy, we are going to need it."
"Amber, you're my friend, but you better shut up now."
"I'm sorry but we need to move, and you can't save him."
Daniella stood up and faced Amber. The two girls had never been at odds like this before and a powerful tension could be felt in the air.
"Just because you lost Warren, doesn't mean no one can be saved."
"What did you just say to me?"
"You heard me Amber. You and I have always gotten along, but when you lost him you changed. And I'm not going to let your cynicism let Kail die."
Amber was speechless at Daniella's statement, and it took all the she had to keep her composure. Warrens face kept flashing in her eyes. A loud screeching noise blasted through all of the mutants ears. Everyone dropped to the ground defenseless to the piercing noise. In the sky there was a horde of sentinels. Amber cold barely make out how many but she figured there had to be at least 60 flying overhead.
"Ugh…what are we…going to do?" Nicholas asked, unable to move.
"I don't know?" Christopher answered next to him.
"Mutants located. Exterminate the mutants."
Daniella was laying on her back and she saw a strange blue beam shoot from one of the sentinel's hands and hit Ravenna. She began to lift into the sky straight towards the waiting horde. Ravenna looked into Daniella's eyes and she began to cry. As she approached the Sentinels her eyes began to glow a bright green color. Her body began to spark and shake.
"Help me!" She yelled out, and to Daniella's horror the girl disappeared in a large green electrical explosion taking not only her life, but also most of the sentinels in the sky. The others were sent crashing to the ground. The stunned mutants were no longer under the influence of the piercing noise that had stopped.
Nicholas was the first to stand up and he ran over to assist Amber. Daniella was once again trying to heal Kail, whom was still unconscious from his injuries.
"Amber are you ok."
"Yeah I'm fine Nicholas."
"It was her."
'What do you mean?"
"That girl was the one who triggered my death sense."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, she is gone and now…"
"Would you two shut up?" Daniella yelled.
Everyone turned to her as she persisted at healing Kail.
"That girl is dead, and there was nothing we could do. How can you not care?"
"What could we do Daniella, we couldn't move." Christopher answered.
"I just….I wish…"
Daniella was nearly in tears, she had never felt so helpless before. Ravenna was dead, and Kail was not looking good either. She wished she could have fought and maybe helped Kail more than what she could. Sebastian walked up to her and placed his hand on her shoulder.
"Ve must move now. De Sentinels are awakening." Sebastian
"Too late Sebastian." Christopher said as the machines began to stand and head in their direction.
"Weapon systems online. Destroy the mutants."
"What are we going to do?" Nicholas asked staring at the seven functioning machines.
"We can't take them all on. I don't know." Amber responded, genuinely feeling afraid.
"Ve need to run now." Sebastian said. "I have dealt vith dese thing before, we cannot beat them all."
"Grab Kail and let's go." Amber told Christopher.
"We can't move him, it could kill him." Daniella interrupted.
"Well we cannot stay here either." Amber shot back.
"Hey guys, what's that?" Nicholas asked.
The group looked into the sky to see a jet flying their way. It looked like their aircraft except far more advanced. The jet fired several missiles, all of which collided with the remaining sentinels, destroying them where they stood. The jet hovered above the group and quickly landed. As the entry hatch opened up everyone was shocked at what they saw. Stepping out of the ship was a tall red head with green eyes. She wore a black battle suit and had several types of fire arms attached to her legs, and back. She walked over to Kail's body and her hands began to glow green. She passed her hands over Kail's chest and his breathing became easier. Daniella could tell that his ribs were healing at a remarkable pace. This woman had just saved his life.
"Who are you? How did you do that?" Daniella asked her.
"What, can't recognize yourself? I know it's been a few years but still, I didn't think I was that old looking."
Amber walked over to the redheaded woman.
"Daniella?"
"In the flesh. It is great to see all of you again but we don't have time for pleasantries. We been to get him on the jet and get out of here before any more sentinels arrive."
…
Kail's head was throbbing. He felt dizzy and sick to his stomach. His eyes felt like they were stapled shut. Opening his eyes felt like his skin was being torn apart, but after a lot of struggling he finally managed to open them. He saw a dark ceiling above him and tried to move. His whole body felt fried and he couldn't move much.
"Don't try to move too much. The electric current that was sent through your body was highly deadly. Your central nervous system was shot, your brain was hotwired. It will take a little bit for the pain to stop."
Kail looked painfully to the right to see a somewhat familiar red head standing near him.
"How long?"
"Well that's where you are lucky. Had it been anyone else this could take weeks, months, maybe even years to heal. Luckily with me you have a couple of hours. It will be painful, but you'll be good as new."
"Who are you?" Kail asked the red head.
"Don't recognize me huh. Well I certainly know who you are."
"And who's that?"
"Always the clueless one. And to think we almost kissed." The woman laughed.
"Dan…Daniella?"
"That's right, it is good to see you."
"You're older."
"Observant as always."
"You saved my life?"
"This time, yeah. You need to rest, this will help." She said as she placed her hand on his forehead.
"You….you're…still beautiful."
Kail forced a smile onto his face even though the pain he was in was excruciating. His vision began to go black as he looked upon her face. Before he lost consciousness he saw a lone tear fall from her eye.
…
Amber sat waiting for the older Daniella to meet with the group. They had been informed that Kail finally awoke a few hours ago and that he would be fine soon. To say the whole situation was strange was an understatement.
"Where is she?" Nicholas asked impatiently.
"What can't read her mind?" Christopher responded.
"I'm not just going to pry into people's minds Chris. I have some respect for personal boundaries. And besides, I've been trying, something's blocking me."
Daniella hadn't spoken much since Kail was stabilized. She was happy that he was going to be alright but the fact that it was her from the future was somewhat strange and intimidating.
"Daniella vill you be ok?" Sebastian asked.
"Yeah."
"Are you sure, you haven't spoken since ve arrived here."
"I don't know, it's just all so….weird."
"Dat it is."
Amber just laughed at the situation. Not because it was funny, but because she wasn't sure what to do, which was new for her. This was uncharted territory for her. Luckily the tension in the room broke when the older Daniella finally arrived.
"Sorry I'm late. I had a few calls to make."
"And here I thought you were the punctual one." Amber said.
"In this world punctuality is a luxury."
Daniella please, vill you tell us vhat has happened?" Sebastian asked.
"Sure, so I'm guessing that it is Christopher's fault that you guys are here?"
"Yeah, yeah, rub it in my face why don't you." He said with a slight glare.
"Vhen are we. Vhat year is it."
"Judging by your approximate ages, you guys are from the year 2014?"
"Yes." Amber answered
"Well this is the year 2020."
"You mean to tell us that this only six years into the future?" Christopher questioned.
"That's right."
"How did dis come to pass?" Sebastian asked.
"In June of 2014 a corporation name Cyrix Industries created and released a deadly virus into the world. Over half of the mutant population died due to the effects of the virus. It was called Helix, and it was a mutant killer. Shortly after many mutants developed an immunity to this virus, so Cyrix unleashed the re-created sentinel program. The sentinels began to kill everything seeing not only mutants, but also human beings as potential threats. Most of us died."
"Who and how?" Amber asked.
"Amber sometimes knowing our future is not de best option. Especially in terms of our deaths." Sebastian warned.
The group all looked at each other not sure whether or not they wanted to know the answer.
"You should…tell us." A voice came from behind them.
"Kail, what are you doing up?" The younger Daniella asked surprised.
"I'm better, and I want to know what happened. We should know."
"Does everyone else agree?" The older Daniella asked.
Everyone either nodded to her or said yes.
"Ok, Vincent, Amber Nicholas, Sebastian, Professor Lisa, and Natalina died to the virus rather quickly. It wasn't pretty. The virus caused the mutant x gene to poison itself causing a horrific pain, and the slow shutdown of the afflicted body. It was not easy to watch. Blair was murdered by her father who was transformed into a half human half sentinel being. Then Amber, and Kail both sacrificed themselves to keep the sentinels away from us." Nicholas's face whitened a bit at the explanation.
"What about me?" Christopher asked.
"We had a plan to send you back in time to change these events. We spent years building a machine that would amplify your powers, but unfortunately a Sentinel killed you before we could use it."
"That sucks." He said.
"For all of us." Nicholas added.
"So how did you survive so long?" Amber asked
"My healing powers accelerated due to the virus. It actually made me stronger. Then I started training daily to get stronger. Now I'm a better shot than Christopher ever was."
"Wow, you really turned into a badass, huh Daniella?" Nicholas asked.
"Are you implying that I'm not one now?" The younger one asked him.
"N…no. I was…I was just making a statement." He stammered out.
"Good to hear."
Kail walked over to the older Daniella.
"So what now?"
"Now we try to send you guys back. If Christopher is up to it."
Everyone looked over to the time travelling mutant.
"Whatever I can do, this is after all kind of my fault that we are here." He stated.
"But if you hadn't brought us here, ve would have never know about de virus in time to potentially stop it." Sebastian interjected.
"I'm really happy to see you all again. I've missed you all so much." Daniella said with tears in her eyes.
"If we get back…I promise that we will change this future." Kail said to the older woman.
"So are there any other survivors?" Amber asked.
"Yes, a couple of them are on their way now actually."
"Who is it?"
The metal walls began to shake as Amber asked her question. Kail felt like his body was being pulled by some unseen force. Amber even looked like she was in pain from whatever this force was.
"He's here." The older Daniella said."
"Who?" Nicholas asked.
The metal wall began to come off of the safe house. Everyone looked at the hole that was where the wall once sat and found themselves staring at a floating man. He looked older and had white hair. He wore a purple and red suit and cape and had on a strange helmet.
"Erik Lehnsheer?" Sebastian asked startled.
"That's Magneto." Nicholas whispered.
"The master of magnetism." Christopher said to himself.
"Hello there my brothers, and sisters." Magneto said to the group. "I must say I'm impressed that you are all still alive."
He floated towards Kail and Amber and smiled.
"Like father like daughter, young Amber Howlett. And you, there I something most interesting about you." He said looking at Kail. "You have magnetism running through your veins. Peculiar isn't it."
"Well Magneto. We can finish the plan now." Daniella said to him.
"Yes, and stop this horrendous future from ever coming to pass." He answered with a grin on his face.
…
Thanks for reading the new chapter. I hope that you all enjoyed it. I know this is one of my shorter chapters but I thought that the content made up for it. As I said, now that I have more time on my hands the next chapter should be out by Saturday if everything goes right. Let me know what you thought of the chapter.
