Jeez, I can not keep a schedule. Sorry for the long wait, hopefully this chapter makes up for it. Also, all your reviews is candy for my soul. I really appreciate it, truly. Now, on to the show!
Chapter 7: Remembrance
Bleep...Bleep...Bleep
Huh? What's that noise?
Bleep...Bleep...Bleep
Well whatever it is, it sure is annoying. Now where am I and why are my eyes closed? Well based on feel alone, I'd say I'm in some sort of bed. There is also some light weight over me, so I assume that those are blankets.
Bleep...Bleep...Bleep
Shut up!
Bleep
Well that's just rude. Ok. I'm going to open my eyes and shut that thing off! in one, two, three! I pry open my eyes that weigh about a ton. After about two seconds too long my eyes open and HOLY SHIT THAT'S BRIGHT! I immediately shut my eyes. Ok so that was a thing. So, expect blinding light when opening eyes, gotcha. Ok, take it like a man! I pry my eyes open once again with less resistance than before and the light is still as blinding but I just soldier through it. After a few seconds and a lot of blinking I finally adjust to the light and look around me. I'm in a...hospital? The white walls and ceiling indicate as much. Not to mention the cutting edge tech that is besides my bed. So far everything looks normal. Though one question is screaming at me.
What am I doing here!?
The last thing I remember is...closing the breach with Cadash. Was that all a dream!? No, it felt so real. But if it wasn't a dream what am I doing in a hospital? Gah this is hurting my head!
Bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep
Oh great that's getting faster. I look to my left where the noise is coming from and glare. Don't think I forgot about you just because I'm having a breakdown. I reach over to it. I just need to figure out how to turn you off. Just as I was about to press a button that looked like the power button the door opened and a man in a white lab coat came in looking puzzled. He had lightly tanned skin and auburn hair. He looked to be in his late 40's if the wrinkles say anything. Oh hey he must be my doctor. I stop reaching over and sigh in relief.
"Oh am I glad to see you doc. Could you do something about this thing" I ask him. He doesn't look like he heard me, but he did go to the thing. Good, just turn it off and we'll- wait why aren't you turning it off? Why are just looking at it. He clicked his tongue and went to the front of my bed to look at the clipboard and make a few marks on it.
"Hey doc, what are you doing" I ask him. He doesn't acknowledge me as he continues to make his rounds. I hear the door open again and I turn to see a man about my age with dirty blonde hair, fair skin, wearing a metal band t-shirt with blue jeans. I recognize him almost instantly as Will Higgins of the kendo club. I smile and wave at him. "Boy am I glad to see you. This quack doesn't pay any attention to me" I say to him, but he just looks at my direction and I swear he looked through me.
He turns to the doctor and asks "is anything wrong"
The doctor looks back at him, "Well his vitals spiked for a second there, but everything is back to normal now" he says.
"Why are you talking about me like I'm not in the room" I ask them loudly. They're acting like I'm not here.
"What does that mean," Will asks concerned, "is he going to wake up"
"I don't believe so. He might have just had a bad dream"
Wake up? Dream?
"Guys! I'm awake! I'm right-" I shout then stop when I look behind me and I see...me, "here"
This can't, I mean how? What? I start breathing faster and faster, am I breathing?! What is happening!? I turn back to the source of the bleeps and I reach my hand out to it. As soon as I make contact my hand goes right through. I quickly pull my hand back and I just stare at it. I try to touch the machine again only for my hand to continue to faze through it over and over again. I yell at the top of my lungs, kinda glad nobody can hear that, and slam my fist on the rail of my bed, at least I would've if it didn't faze through and the momentum of it made me go off balance and nearly fall out of my bed. I huff and try to get back into bed. Though if this is one of those out of body experiences, then I can stand up without everyone getting worried. So I get out of the bed and I don't feel any worse for wear. This is so weird.
"We can still visit though, right" I hear Will ask the doctor.
"Of course. Though there is still the rule of only one person in the room at a time" the doctor replies.
"Right, right. Well, I'll go tell the others the news" Will says and he walks to the door and opens it. I double take when I see that the door leads to an infinite white void. Weird, guess I only know what the room looks like. I also see Will cast one last glance at me before leaving the room. I sigh. What is happening. I thought I was having some weird dream not some coma hallucination. I walk over back to my...body I guess. I just stand there and just stare at...me. This isn't happening. if I didn't know any better I'd say I look peaceful. Soon the doctor leaves and I'm all alone. in a way, I guess.
"What are you doing? Wake up" I yell at the empty shell. "You have things to do! People to meet! You have dreams, ambitions! So what are you doing sleeping!? GET UP" I scream, beg, plead. Nothing. God damn nothing. I sigh again. Now what? I hear the door open and I expect the doctor, but am kind of surprised to see a girl a little younger than me. She has her hazelnut hair tied back into a ponytail and a purple shirt and black hoodie with grey sweats. I immediately recognize her as Allie Morton, Vice President of my club. I chuckle at her appearance, she always puts comfort ahead of style. She looks at me and I see the sadness in her eyes. She then takes a seat next to the bed.
"Hey. I heard the news from Will. Gave the doc quite the scare" she then chuckles, " you won't believe how we chose the order we get to see you. Well, we got your hat" whoa, hold on, "I know you don't like people touching your hat. Don't worry, we wore gloves, and we wrote down all our names and put them in the hat. So by luck I'm now here" another chuckle, followed by a few sniffs, wait is she? "Everyone's here. E-even Abby. We're all worried about you" she looks at me and I see tears in her eyes that are falling down her face. "Umm. Abby read somewhere that even though it may not seem like it, talking to someone in a...long sleep helps. So here I am," more tears run down her face, yet the smile on her face never fades, she even lets out a low chuckle. "I just can't get over the fact that your in...this situation and there's nothing I can do" she then starts full out crying. No no no! Don't cry! You never cry! Why are you crying!? I go over and I try to embrace her but I don't even feel her as I faze right through her. Damn it! I stand back up and feel absolutely useless. After what felt like an eternity she stops crying and wipes her tears off her face. "I know you've never seen me get this emotional. I'm not used to it myself. But when I see you lying there it brings up memories, good and bad. Do you remember the first time we met" she asks me. Boy do I.
The bell dismissing the class finally rings and I gather up my supplies. Stupid calculus not letting us use actual calculators. if we were able to, maybe my grade wouldn't be a pile of shit now would it. I huff as sling my backpack onto my shoulder. Now to English and our riveting talks about what blue curtains symbolize. Spoiler alert: the author just likes the color blue. I'm so caught up in my thoughts that I don't notice the person in front of me until we knock into one another. I stumble back but the person, a girl once I get a good enough look at her, was knocked on her butt.
"Oh sh- I'm so sorry" I quickly say to her and I give her my hand to help her up but she shakes her head and gets up on her own. I notice too that her books and papers are all over the floor. Might as well help her pick it up. I go to one knee and start picking up her papers.
"Don't you watch where you're going" she snaps at me.
"Most of the time" I say. I quickly gather up her things and hand them over to her. She snatches them from my hands and sends me a glare.
"Next time you might try getting your head out of your ass" she says snarky. She then walks past me.
"I said sorry" I yell at her back. She doesn't turn back and I feel like crap. Ah I'll get over it. it's not like I'll see her again.
Finally school is over. Now I can head to the gym and see if Kendo practice is still on. I quickly run over to the gym and see people doing all sorts of sports and hobbies. Now to just find the captain. Ah, there he is. I run over to the captain and once I get there I see the rest of the team.
"Hey cap. How was your day" I ask him.
"Not bad. Funny thing happened-" he started but was interrupted by a feminine voice
"is this where the Kendo club practices" it asks. Wait. That voice. I turn to the source of the voice and I see the girl from earlier. She then spots me and her eyes widen.
"You" we both yell at each other.
"What are you doing here" she quickly asks
"I could ask you the same thing" I reply
"I'm here to join the club" she says
"Well I'm already apart of it" I boast
"You" she asks incredulously, "you've got to be kidding"
"I'm completely serious, and I'm pretty damn good if I say so myself"
"Well good thing you say it cause no one else will" she says sarcastically. Damn that wit.
"Oh yeah? Well your...haircut...is lopsided" I say in a vain attempt to burn her. Damn it brain! She just looks at me with a bored expression and an eyebrow raised.
"Really" she asks rhetorically.
I was about to reply but captain spoke before I could "I'm sensing a lot of hostility. You know this chick, Sezar" he asks me.
I snort, "Hardly. Just someone who has a stick up her ass"
She gasps, "Excuse me?! Listen here asshole, I bet I could kick your ass up and down the ring"
"is that a challenge I hear" I ask as I put a hand next to my ear.
"You bet your tacky hat it is" she says confidently. Hey now, no one insults the hat.
"Alright, bring it on"
"This should be good" I hear cap say next to me.
Soon both me and her are in full gear and waiting for the opportune moment to strike.
"Don't think I'll go easy on you just cause you're a girl" I say to try to get inside her head
"Ditto" she replies. Damn. Soon she rushes me and starts swinging. I block all of them but she does put a lot of power behind her swings. I bet she wants to break my guard by force. Not gonna happen sweetheart. She soon noticeably slows down and I start going on the offensive. I'll admit she's got spunk. For a second there I thought my guard wasn't gonna hold out. Though now that she's out of breath she should be a much easier opponent. I start to see holes in her defense and I exploit the hell out of them. Soon she only barely blocks or dodges out of the way. Time to end this. I do an overhead swing and she blocks it, as expected, but I quickly pull back and sweep her legs out from under her. That trick always works. I put the tip of the sword to her chest and she can't do anything.
"That's twice I've knocked you on your ass. Only this time it was on purpose" I say and give her my hand once more. She looks at it for a few seconds before sighing and taking it. I help her up and we both hear clapping as we turn to see Captain with a huge smile on his face.
"That was excellent. Sezar, your guard was on point and the offense was amazing. Though I did notice a few things that can use a little tweaking. And you Ms..." He says
"Alexandria Morton. Allie to my friends" she replies.
"Allie. Don't be sad about your loss. From what I saw you have a lot of potential. I could see the weight behind your swing. Plus you got more wit than most people I know. I think you're gonna fit just right in our little group"
"Thank you sir"
"Thanks Cap"
"No problem. Now onto the problems I saw" he said and the rest of practice went by smoothly and soon I'm outside watching the sunset after a long practice session.
"its beautiful isn't it" I hear behind me. I turn and see Allie looking at the sunset.
"Yeah. it is" I say and pat the spot next to me. She takes the hint and plops herself right next to me. We just sit there in silence.
"I'm sorry" she says suddenly. I look at her with wide eyes.
"What" I ask baffled. She sighs and continues
"I said I'm sorry. For being a bitch to you when you didn't really deserve it. it's not your fault you can't see straight"
"Uhh...thanks. I think" I say slowly
"What I mean is. I know I'm not the best at making friends and you did try to help me. Do you think maybe we can start over? Get off on the right foot" she asks me.
I sit there for a few seconds as I ponder what she's saying. True she was a bit of a jerk to me, but I did knock her down. Twice. But everyone has off days.
"Sure, why not," I reach my hand out to her, "Sezar Trevino" she takes my hand and shakes it.
"Alexandria Morton. Allie to my friends" she says
"Nice to meet you Allie"
"Ditto"
My smile broadens when I recall the memory.
"Yeah, we've had some fun times" I recollect. if only she could hear me.
"Hehe, you never could beat me in wordplay, though you sure did try" she reflects and I see the happiness I've come to know grow back into her eyes. She looked like she wanted to continue but the door opened and we both look to see a man my age, but so much taller and with black hair and light skin. On his face was the soul patch he was so proud of(as I have yet to master the growing and maintaining of a beard) and he had on a striped black and white polo with tan pants. Always dress to impress with this guy.
"Oh! Hey Joseph. is it time to switch" she asks him.
"Yes, sorry" he says apologetically, then he looks at the stains the tears left on her face and his eyes visibly widen, "Wait, were you-"
"What?! NO! I gotta go" she says swiftly and bolts from her chair while trying to rub off her emotions.
"Where" he asks dumbfounded
from the white void I could hear her say "Somewhere that's not here"
Joseph looks at the door for a second before shrugging and says "Women" before taking the seat previously occupied by Allie. if I knew it wasn't just going to faze right through him I'd slap the back of his head. I try anyway and the expected happens and I don't even cause a whiff of wind. This stinks. I go back to the bed and sit on it and am slightly surprised that I didn't faze through, though I'm making no imprint which is kinda freaky. I look back to Joseph to see him tapping his legs with his hands with a thoughtful look on his face.
"So, How's your day going" I ask lightly, I then motion to my body, "I'm in a coma, so my day isn't that great". He, of course, doesn't say anything back and we're back to the silence.
After another few minuets, he finally speaks, "Sorry about the silence. it is just that I do not really know what to say" he says slowly.
"I hear that" I say to myself.
"Though I suppose the best place to start would be the facts then work my way up. I guess" he says more to himself than to me. He then clears his throat and continues, "I am sure Allie told you that we are all here, which we are. Abby said to talk to you and bring up some memories, good or bad, that ought to help you wake up. Well, what better way to start than at the beginning. I remember it clearly." Me too.
Come on, just a little bit further, I can make it! my right foot crosses the threshold just as the bell rings, WOO, just in time. I raise my arm in a victory pu-
"Trevino, if you're not in your seat your late" the teacher scolds. I put my arm back down and head to my seat, grumbling all the while about 'buzzer beaters'. I find my seat and put my backpack under it before putting my head down in preparation for the class-long nap I'm about to take."Now, before we begin today's talk on interval notations. We have a new student to introduce. Would you please stand up and introduce yourself sir" teach asks the new kid. I suppose this is worth paying attention to, so I rest my head in my hand and look at the standing boy. Doesn't look like much, short black hair, white skin. Well he is well dressed for a place like this though, his orange and black striped polo with nice blue jeans and is that a Swiss army watch I see? What's a kid that afford that kind of stuff doing here at the town dump they call a school.
"Hello, um, my name is Joseph Tomba and I used to be home-schooled before my parents decided that I should have more interaction with kids my age and they chose this school because of its good tennis team," he then looks around the classroom, "I hope that we will get to know each other very well" he says before sitting back in his seat. I let out a low chuckle, what a weird kid. Now where was I? Oh yeah, dreamland.
I hate the stereotype that school food is bad, I mean come on it's a free(ish) meal, what do you expect, escargot, lobster? I then look at the pulled pork sandwich that is on my tray along with the chocolate milk and fries that came with the sandwich. Well, even lies stem from truth. I hear someone pull up the seat next to mine and I look to my left to see the new kid.
"Hey, you're the new kid um... Jose" I guess.
"Joseph" he corrects.
"Right, that's what I said, anyway what are you sitting here for" I question,.
"Well as I currently have no friends to sit with at lunch I saw you sitting here alone and I thought we could be alone together" he explains
"Uhh, I don't know what your parents taught you, but, just for future reassurance, it'd be best not to start off with a pick up line" I say to him. He looks really confused.
"I do not understand" he says.
"Let's keep it like that. And I also have very close friends thank you very much, they just aren't here today"
"Where are they, if you do not mind me asking"
"One's sick, and one is visiting his family in Peru"
"I hope they return unharmed" he says and I give him a sideways glance.
"Thanks...uh, why do you talk like that" I ask him.
"Talk like what, exactly"
I point at him, "Like that, like Data from Star Trek"
he looks even more confused, "Well I wish to be clear and concise with those I converse with. Though I do not understand that allusion. You see my parents do not let me watch much television or film"
"Wait you've never seen Star Trek"
"Correct"
"Well, what about, Star Wars? Toy Story? Princess Bride" I inquire
"No, no, and no" he says emotionless
"Ed, Edd, & Eddy? Samurai Jack? Looney Toons? Animaniacs"
"No, negative, very little, and never even heard of it"
I huff before reaching the bottom of the barrel, "Veggie Tales" I grit out. His face visibly brightens.
"Oh I love that show" he says happily. I sigh before letting my head hit the table. that doesn't stop him from gushing about said show.
"My favorite character is Larry, of course, but Bob is a close second. I love the morals they put in their shows and their songs are even better. My favorite one is this one" he gushes before clearing his throat. Wait, he's not gonna...no, he wouldn't.
"OOOOOOOHHHHHH" DEAR LORD HE IS" Everyone has a Water-buffalo, yours is fast, but mine is slow, oh where to get them I do not know, oh everyone has a Water-buffalo oooooo-" I shove a french fry in his mouth and that gets him to stop singing.
"Stop it, you're drawing unwanted attention" I say and motion with my head to all the people whose eyes have been turned in our direction since the word 'Everyone' left his now salty mouth. he chews and swallows the fry before looking at me.
"I apologize. it is just that every time I think of that song I just can not help myself. I just have to sing it"
"Do you know anything by Rush" I ask quickly
"No"
"Sing that"
We eat in blissful silence before he breaks it, "I get the feeling that you do not like me"
I sigh before I set my half-eaten sandwich down "it's not that I don't like you, it's just that, well, you're really...unique. Though I guess it's not your fault. You just haven't been around people your age"
"Correct, it was just me and my five brothers and sisters" he says.
"Exact- Wait how may siblings"
"Five, not including me. Soon to be Six if the pregnancy test I found in the trash bin is to be believed. Do you have any siblings" he asks
"No, no. I'm an only child." the Bell suddenly rings, signifying the end of luch. Man, I didn't even get to finish my food. Ah well, wasn't that good anyway. I gather up my food and turn to Joseph.
"Shall I see you after school" he asks me and I can hear the fear of getting rejected in his voice.
"Sure man" I lie. a little white lie never hurt anyone. I then start walking away.
"I do not believe you told me your name" he says to my back
"Sezar" I say back to him and fall in the huge crowd of people now exiting the cafeteria
I sigh as I drop my backpack and sit down under my favorite tree. School is always so boring. Well today wasn't all that bad, considering. The new kid seems a bit off though. Doubt I'll ever see him again though, outside of class at least. I let out another sigh as I rest my head on the trunk as I wait for my mom to come pick me up.
"Hey, honky" I faintly hear.
"Uh...Hello" I hear a familiar voice reply. I open my eyes and look around for the sources of the voices. I then spot Joseph surrounded by four other students.
"Listen here, see. I got a problem with you walkn' in here thinking you own the place" the leader of the pack, some 8th grader that I hadn't bothered learning the name of, threatened.
"I-I do not understand" I hear Joseph stammer. The leader laughs at this, which causes his cronies to laugh.
"Well, then. let me make this crystal clear" he then sucker punches him in the stomach. Holy crap-baskets, "You and yo cracka ass kind do so much wrong, someone gotta pay up". He and his cronies start wailing on him with punches and kicks and I can barely make out his form in the fetal position.
CRAP-BASKETS! I gotta help him! I look around quickly for any kind of weapon that'll give me an edge against them. I find a sizable stick just near my back-pack and run to pick it up. Good enough. I then sprint over to the beat down taking place and I wind up the stick and I deliver a blow to the back of one's head, knocking him out immediately. This causes the others to spot beating on the battered form of Joseph and focus on me.
"This ain't got nothin to do with you, beaner" The leader says while the other two circle around me. Great, more derogatory words. I shrug it off.
"This has nothing to do with him either" I say, referring to Joseph.
"What, we got a cracka-lover over here" He says. "You know what we do to crackas and their bitches" he asks rhetorically. I raise my stick in preparation for whats to come next.
"Look, just take your friends and leave, before we all do something we'll regret" I say in a vain attempt to get them to cease and desist.
"Nice try, wetback. But any hope of mercy left when you stepped up" the leader says and all three charge at the same time. I swing my stick at the guy to my right hitting him in the face and knocking him to the ground. I then turn the crony on the left and kick him in the crotch. He said no mercy. The guy screams in pain and grabs his crotch and falls to the ground. Two down at least. I then turn back to the leader and see him right in front of me. I try to swing at him but he catches it in his hands. we struggle in a test of strength that I am quickly losing. Crap, crap, crap. Come on use your head to find a way to get the edge again. Well...if you insist brain. I rear back my head and slam it into the skull of my opponent and he lets go almost immediately. I take a step back and barely keep my grip on my weapon as I rub the sore spot on my head. No one wins in a headbutt. The leader is in worse shape than I am, but he surprisingly shakes of his pain and spears me to the ground with so much speed my breath is knocked right out of me and my weapon falls from my grasp. Crapbask- the fist to my face interrupts my thought. Another fist comes meteoring to my face. Crap. another one. Baskets. Great. The flurry of punches soon stops however as I feel his weight suddenly disappear off me and I'm barely clinging on to consciousness and I can feel my blood run down my face and I think my nose is broken. I peel my eyes open to see Joseph standing over me and I see all the cuts and bruises on his face and arms. When I look at his hand, clenched in a fist, I spot some blood dripping from it. Fresh blood. Wait. I look to the right and I see the leader on the floor with a very large cut on the side of his head and his eyes closed. I then look back at him.
"What...happened" I grind out. Joseph then lends me his hand and I take it. he hoists me up and I get the biggest dizzy spell of my life. I lean on his shoulder until it fades away.
"Easy now. He was...preoccupied with you, so I punched him in the side of the head to get him off of you" he calmly explains. I then look to the unconscious form of my opponent.
"You knocked him out" I point out.
"...I hit him hard" he says. I nod at that. when the dizzy spell goes away I walk over to one of the cronies and tap him with my foot.
"Get your friends and go away" I order. He nods his head and gets up limping and wakes up the other cronies. They get the leader and piggy-back him away from us. One of the cronies turns back to us.
"You'll be seeing us again real soon" he says. I just flip him off. I then motion for Joseph to follow me back to my tree. We get there and I all but collapse under the shade and I see that he does the exact same. We both lay there in silence for quite a while.
"Why" I suddenly hear Joseph ask.
"What" I say back
"Why did you come to my aid. I thought I annoyed you" he says. I stay silent for a little bit before replying.
"Whether you annoyed me or not is not the point. I can't just sit back and do nothing while I see someone get attacked for no reason. Especially not a friend"
"Friend" he asks
"Yeah...friend"
"Yay" he says enthusiastically...well, as much as one can after getting beat up. We both fall back into silence.
"By the way" I start, breaking the silence.
"What"
"The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything is a much better song than the water buffalo song" I quip, then we both start laughing...then immediately stop because it hurts to laugh.
We are both chuckling at the memory.
"Ahh...our moms almost got a heart attack from just seeing us" he says jokingly.
"Yeah, not to mention that my dad setting my nose hurt worse than anything those jack-offs could've done" I say to him though he doesn't react.
"I was almost pulled from public school entirely, but I explained what happened to my parents. it took basically grovelling to let me stay in school," Joseph explains somberly. he then looks at my body, "And I absolutely will never regret it" he says with conviction, then he puts his fist out for a fist bump. Might as well humor him, I put my fist out and stop right where I would if I wouldn't faze through. Joseph then pulls back and looks at his clenched fist with a sullen look. I get up and pat him on the shoulder.
"Thanks man, I'll never regret what I did either" I say quietly, though I don't really know why I bother. I go sit back on the bed then a knock from the door enters the room. Joseph says for the person to come in and I see Will standing in the doorway.
"Times up" Joseph asks hesitantly
"Times up" Will says. Joseph nods and gets up to leave the room, but stops to shake Will's hand as he leaves, "Be careful, Allie is mad at you" he says
Joseph scoffs at this, "What can she do" he says and enters the white void.
"THERE YOU ARE" I hear Allie scream and both me and Will jump as soon as we hear the anger in her voice.
"Allie what are you doing with that? NO WAIT" I hear Joseph's plea and a loud and painful crack that I and all my club mates recognize.
"Where'd she get a practice blade" I ask Will, well actually myself, I guess. Will just shakes his head and closes the door.
"At least we're in a hospital" he says to himself. Well, that's true.
"So, are we gonna have a moment-" I start but double take when I see him still at the door. I get up and walk over to him. What's up with- why aren't his eyes moving? Indeed, his green eyes are stone solid, even as I wave my hand in front of his face. Nothing, "What's going on" I ask no on-
"I believe I can answer that" holy SHIT who said that? I look around for the source of the voice and immediately shield my eyes from a golden glow so blinding it was like the first time I opened my eyes.
"Who are you" I ask it.
"Who indeed" it replies, it has a mixture of voices so it's neither male nor female. The light dies down a bit and I can finally get a good look at the thing. It's just a golden silhouette that has no male or female parts, so I guess it doesn't have a gender. I see it walk around the room and look from wall to wall with it's hands behind its back, "Your world is an interesting one" it says out of the blue.
"What? Who are you? What do you mean my world? Why is nothing moving" I inquire. The thing just continues to look around.
"By your world I mean your world, Earth. You have no magic, except in fiction, yet you have advanced far beyond those that do. What does that mean" it says.
"You're one of those things that likes to talk in riddles aren't you" I say to it.
"No, I do not speak in riddles, I speak very clearly for those that want to listen" it replys, and it almost sounds offended.
"Yeah, you definitely are" I say back with a monotone voice. It looks at me finally.
"What or who or how I am does not matter, what matters is me giving you this warning"
"Warning" I ask
"Lead them or fall" it says.
"What-"
"Do not waste anymore of our time by asking questions you will not understand the answers to" it says in a condescending tone.
"What do you mean? I want to listen-"
"No, you do not, you want to hear what you want to hear. I cannot give, nor try to give a false answer to fools who know no better" it says
"Who are you calling a fool you-"
"Do you take offense to that? Interesting" it says while putting it's hand under its head and walking towards me.
"Wha- of course I'm offended, you called me a fool, who wouldn't-"
"So this world still has not evolved past pride, very interesting" it says. OK this things pissing me off.
"Would you stop int-"
"You are wondering why you are here, correct" God dammit
I huff, "Yeah, but I thought you won't talk to 'fools', so w-"
"I do not like to, correct, but I suppose I could try explaining things to one such as you"
"One such as m-"
"You are currently in two worlds" it says outright.
"What? How is that possible, I thought that was just a coma-induced halluc-"
"To understand the finer parts, one must understand the whole picture" it says and starts walking away.
"Whole pic-"
"The essential components of a human is three things, one," It holds up a finger, "The body, two," another one, "The mind, and finally three," holds up a third, "The soul. They are all equally important, for without one the others cannot exist" it explains.
"Well, yeah I suppose. What does that have to do with-"
"You? Simple, your body and mind are in another world, while your soul rest in it's birthplace," it then turns back to me, "This, I'm sure you're aware, is something that has not happened before, as such I am very interested in you, more specifically, that" he says and points to my right hand. I look at it and am taken aback because it is glowing green. I shake my hand in an attempt to, turn it off?
"Why me? C-Cadash has the same thing on her left hand, so why-"
"The dwarf? While she does have the same affliction as you, all her vital components are where they should be, while yours are split. Not to mention her kind have been cut off from the fade, unlike you humans. She could never understand"
"The fade? What's-"
"There are many names for it, far above the number you could count to, though I suppose your world refers to it as the afterlife"
"Afterlife, so who are-"
"Me? I am you and your friends just as I am your enemies. I am all, as you are all, yet I am me, as you are you. All is one and one is all. You can choose any name you can think of because you would be correct, yet you would be wrong"
"So you are omnipotent"
"Yes and no, I see all, yet I cannot tell the future, nor would I want to for that would spoil the surprises in watching"
I look back at Will who is still stone solid, "How did you freeze time" I ask it. Yay, I got a complete sentence out.
"Another simple question with a simple answer, since you are just your soul you do not need to follow this world's laws of physics. I simply changed your relativity to where one second for them is a decade to you" it answers offhandedly.
"Why, I mean what do I need to do" I ask as I turn back to face it.
"In the world of Thedas, the world your body and mind are in, There is a being that threatens all, not just his world"
"Isn't that kind of thing happening all the time"
"Yes, but there are always others who are working against them, yet this one poses a very real threat. You see, he seeks the power of divinity and you are needed to help stop him"
"Why am I needed, why can't Cadash stop him by herself"
"She will try, though I do not see her becoming victorious. Besides, what is it your world says? 'The more the merrier'"
"How am I going to get b-"
"Me of course, though the process of doing so will surely go over your head"
I look back at Will, "Will I be able to come back here" I ask quietly
"Of course"
I immediately look back at it, "Really? How" I ask excitedly
"When you are ready and the job is done, it will present itself to you, do not waste precious time by trying to find a way home by yourself" it says sternly
"When will I be ready"
"When you do not have to ask that question" it says ominously, it then turns its back on me, "Now I hope you enjoyed this brief respite with your companions, for now it is time to-"
"Wait" how does it feel to be interrupted you bastard. It looks back at me.
"Yes" it asks.
"Can you put time back to normal, I need to give them a message, let them know I'm alright" I plead with it. It stays silent for a few seconds and it suddenly snaps its fingers and Will is moving like normal. Ok time test out those few years of Military with Will to good use. I run over to my body and put my hand around my finger and start moving it up and down, come on Will notice. I look at Will who is looking around confused and then looks to my body, then my finger.
"Holy shit" he says surprised, and was about to call the doctor, but stopped when he heard I was tapping in morse code. He got out his phone and I assume he went to the notes app in his phone. Just a bit more, and done.
"I GTG, TTYL" Will reads out loud and there is a huge smile on his face as he runs out the room screaming, "GUYS".
"OK, I'm good to go now" I tell the being. it nods and puts its hand on my shoulder.
"Remember" it says as its glow gets brighter and brighter.
"Lead them" the glow is so intense I shut my eyes.
"Or fall" Everything is pitch black.
