It wasn't like Katie to get jealous or anything. She was the one who wanted Ponyboy to get together with the girl he liked. So why was she so angry seeing them together, alone? She shook off the feeling, waiting for something to happen in Soda's room.

She was unaware of when Cherry left and only decided she was gone when Pony passed by Soda's room, who was unaware of Katie's presence. She watched him walk by with a wide grin on his face. Guess if he's happy, I am too, she thought. Deep in thought, Katie jumped when Soda burst in the room.

"Hey kid, what are you doin' in here?" He sat next to her, taking off his DX shirt.

Katie tried not to blush as Soda revealed his built body. "Umm… Pony was with his friend so I thought I'd hang out here for the time being." She tried to keep her words from stuttering.

"Ahh I see. And you didn't want to help them?" Soda was now removing his jeans.

"I didn't want to be a third wheel." Now it was harder to keep the blush off her face… and even harder to stop staring at Ponyboy's older brother. God the Curtis brothers were some of the most attractive men she'd ever met.

Soda nodded, pulling on another pair of jeans and a fresh shirt. "Since that kid got his date for the day, why don't I get mine?" Katie blinked, not sure what he meant. "Steve and I and Two-Bit are gonna catch some action."

"Action?"

"Y'know, party. Now don't go telling me you ain't ever been to a party before. Surely you've gone to one back in Illinois."

Katie shook her head. "Ma and Pa never let me out. Not since Austin got caught driving drunk after he said he was going to the grocery store."

"So you're a party virgin?" Soda smiled, enjoying the moment of teasing her.

A dark blush spread across the girl's face. "Can't think of other words to describe my anti-social life?"

"Sorry kid. So how 'bout it? Could use a nice looking girl to go with me."

Nice looking? Did Soda just really say she's nice looking? Katie thought back to how she felt seeing Ponyboy and Cherry together. Revenge. "Sure. Should I let Ponyboy know where I'm going?"

"Go on ahead. Be down stairs when you're done."

The sound of someone knocking dragged Ponyboy out of his fantasy and into reality. "Yes?"

The door opened. Katie stood in the doorway with a small smile on her face. "Just came to tell you Soda and I are going out with Steve and Two-Bit."

Pony blinked a couple times before registering the words in his brain. "Well if you're going, I'll go too."

Just then, Darry appeared with a somewhat stern face. "Not tonight, little buddy. You're not doing so hot in math. Get it straightened out." Pony groaned in defeat. That meant Katie could go alone with the attractive Soda and perhaps make Ponyboy jealous.

It wasn't like her to get revenge, but she did not like the feeling of the girl and Pony together. All she felt like doing was stabbing Cherry's eye out with a needle. It bothered her so much. What was even stranger was why she felt that way. She didn't like Ponyboy that way, but her unconscious begged to differ.

During the party, Katie met some of Soda and Steve's friends and a couple of other girls that were less attractive than the Curtis's new neighbor. It really bothered Soda that a girl with her appearance and intelligence and maturity was only his younger brother's age. It bugged him a lot.

"Here kid." Two-Bit held out a bottle of beer. "To Katie Chase. A girl who ain't wantin' to ruin her body by drinkin' and smokin' for the res of her life."

Katie accepted the bottle, toasting with the other teenagers around her. The first sip of the beer she choked and hurled the bottle out towards the field. "Son of a bitch what the hell was that?"

Everyone else laughed uncontrollably. "Gee Soda, where'd you manage to find such an innocent flower?" One girl said.

Soda wrapped an arm around her. "She's from them flatlands in the Midwest. They ain't got much."

Katie's face reddened for what seemed like the hundredth time. "We sure don't have as much excitement as this place."

"Then cheer up and have another." Soda opened another bottle and handed it to her. "Cheers."

Katie held her breath as she drank half the bottle. After a bottle, she reached out for another and another and another. By the end of the party, Soda had to carry her passed out on his back to his house.

"Damn brother what on earth did you do to the poor girl?" Darry greeted as the two came in the house.

"Too many drinks." Soda lightly kicked the door closed. "The other kid sleepin'?" Darry nodded. "Better get this princess to bed before she wakes up and begs for another bottle."

Ponyboy heard the front door open and people talking. Good. Soda and Katie were back. He heard Soda's door open and decided to see what they had been up too. Pony watched as his brother took off Katie's shoes and top shirt. Then covered her with a blanket and ending their night with a soft kiss on the forehead. Ponyboy's hand clenched in to a tight fist.
