Chapter 7
Benny and Jazmine dashed back to their garden as fast as they could. They sat down and panted after the couple reached to a bed of blue roses.
"Benny, did you see that!?" Jazmine exclaimed. Benny was so stiff that Jazmine almost thought he went to "gnome mode". She waved her hand in front of his face. "Benny? Helloooo?"
"Yes,yes, yes! I saw it!" Benny shouted, snapping out of his state of shock. "I just can't believe it!"
"Neither could I," Jazmine mumbled.
"A red girl, who is not Rosaline, is the one who's writing thses love letters to Gnomeo!" said, Benny in a slow voice. "Who would have guessed that?"
"Benny, we got to tell Gnomeo!" Jazmine said aprubtly. Benny thought it was a great idea too. But something is stopping him from executing it.
"We can't," the short blue said, sadly.
"What? What do you mean 'we can't'"!?" Jazmine retorted. She was starting to get angry. "Benny, your coz deserves to know the truth! We just can't let him live in this-this-this...delusion forever!"
"I know that, Jazz!" Benny barked. "But I can never tell him the truth!"
"Well, if you won't, then I will!" Jazmine sassed. She was about to go until Benny grabbed her arm.
"Jazz, you can't tell him, either!" Benny barked. "Gnomeo won't believe us!"
Jazmine was stunned. "But Gnomeo's got to believe us! We're his best friends!"
"Yes, but Gnomeo won't still believe us!" Benny argued. "He won't believe me when I tried to tell him that Rosaline doesn't like him!"
As much as she hate to admit it, Jazmine realized that Benny was right. But she didn't want her friend to be hurt! Neither did Benny.
"Then, what should we do?" Jazmine asked her boyfriend, timidly.
"I don't know," Benny said, sadly.
Meanwhile, at the other part of the Blue Garden, Lady Blueberry decided to talk to Lord Redbrick about something important. She walked over to the fence where a cork was stuck in one spot. She unplugged it and saw Lord Redbrick.
"Good morning, Lord Redbrick!" She said, cheerfully.
"Good morning, Lady Blueberry!" Lord Redbrick greeted back. "What brings you here?"
"You know my son, Gnomeo?"
"Yes, I know about him!"
"Well, he fancies your niece, Rosaline very much!"
"...Really?" Lord Redbrick asked, mentally cringing.
"Oh yes, with all his heart! She's all Gnomeo ever talks about!" Lady Bluberry chuckled. "They have been pen pals for a very long time now and I think it's time they meet face to face."
"Yes, I think they should," Lord Redbrick agreed. "But why now?"
"How would you like to arrange a wedding for them?" Lady Blueberry suggested. "They love each other so why not have them settled down?"
Out of all my red girls, why did Gnomeo choose Rosaline? Lord Redbrick thought sourly. Nevertheless he was glad that Rosaline caught the eye of some gnome. "Um, sure! A splendid idea! When should we and the children get together?"
Later in the evening, the two garden leaders, the handsome blue, and...the snobby red drank tea and ate bread underneath Lord Redbrick's Apple tree. Gnomeo couldn't be more than happy when his mother had told him of the Red's dinner invitation! Just him and Rosaline-with thier parents of course! He had been dying to see her again!
"Rosaline, you have no idea how wonderful it is to see your face again!" Gnomeo said romantically.
"Oh absolutely!" Rosaline said with a fake smile. Not!
Before Gnomeo could ask Rosaline to say the passionate words from her letters to him, Rosaline quickly turned to her uncle.
"So Uncle and Lady Blueberry what's the occasion?" She inquired. Her voice held suspicion.
"Yeah, what's up?" Gnomeo asked. Both leaders smiled at each other and faced thier children.
"Well, since you two really know and love each other for a very long time, how would you two like to be married?" Lord Redbrick explained. Rosaline spit her tea. Gnomeo dropped his scone.
"Married!?" Gnomeo and Rosaline replied at the same time. One seemed excited, the other sounded horrified.
Both leaders gave thier children a talk about the importance of marriage, the roles of a husband and wife, and the duties of families. Rosaline found this topic exhauatin and unbearable! She kept her mouth shut so she would not be rude.
Gnomeo felt like he could scream and jumped for joy! Marrying Rosaline? Oh! This is a dream come true! He thought, looking at Rosaline before facing the leaders. "Mum, this is wonderful news!"
"Yeah, perfect!" Rosaline grumbled, more to herself than to the group.
"What do you say, son?" Lady Blueberry asked, winking. As a groom, Gnomeo is allowed to give a final word on the match.
"Arrange the marriage!" He declared. Rosaline tried to talk but words wouldn't come out of her mouth!
"Bravo!" Lord Redbrick cheered. "You two will be wed in late September!"
"Hey, wait a minute!" Rosaline protested. Everybody looked at her. "Don't I get a say in this? I have rights, too, you know!"
"No, Rosaline," Lord Redbrick frowned. "You know the custom! Only the groom gets the final word on whether or not to arrange the match. The bride doesn't get a say in this!"
"But Uncle!" Rosaline whined, waving her fists. "I wanna say something!" She sounded like a six-year-old.
"No, you and Gnomeo will marry! End of discussion!" Redbrick said, firmly. He and Lady Blueberry went on a walk around the Red garden. They started talking about the details of the wedding.
Gnomeo looked at Rosaline, in a concerned way. "Hey Rosie, don't worry about it." He patted on her shoulder.
"I was fine with that rule, until today!" Rosaline muttered. Gnomeo said nothing. What do you say to make someone better?
"You know what'll make you feel better? We recite our passionate words to each other!" Gnomeo said, excitedly. "You express your words to me then, I'll go next!"
"What passionate words?" Rosaline asked, blankly.
"The ones from your letters, of course!" Gnomeo answered.
"I don't know what you are talking about!" Rosaline hissed.
"You don't remember?" Gnomeo asked, confused.
"Remember what?" Rosaline was getting frustrated, again.
"Those words you used to express your feelings!" Gnomeo cried, raising his hands up in the air. When he put them down, he sighed. "You don't have to recite them, you can simply tell me how you feel."
Rosaline tried really hard to think of a love sentence just to make Gnomeo happy.
"I , uh, love you. Roses are red, violets are blue, Tybalt's tough as cookies and so are you!"
"Um..okaaay," said Gnomeo, not sure what to say. It didn't sound as heartfelt as he dreamt it would. "Are you feeling all right? I can tell you're not in the mood,"
"No kidding!" Rosaline barked.
"Rosaline, don't you want to get married? You said that you want to spend the rest of your life with me," Gnomeo stated.
"When did I say that?" Rosaline demanded.
"In your letter!" Gnomeo shouted, incredously.
Before Rosaline could yell at him, the leaders came back from thier walk. Lady Blueberry took her son home after she bid farewell to the Reds.
At the Blue Garden, Gnomeo sat by his windmill, thinking about what just happened. Gnomeo thought he would be happy when Rosaline would tell him she loved him. But he didn't, because she didn't sound excited or loving when Rosaline stated "I love you." He thought he would be thrilled to marry her! But now, he's not sure anymore. Rosaline acted really frosty toward him. Not only would she say those passionate words from her letters to him but also acted like she didn't know them! What should he do? "Maybe I should talk to Mum about it," Gnomeo whispered to himself. "Hopefully she'll help me sort out my feelings!"
At the Wisteria toilet location, Lady Blueberry told the news to Benny, Jazmine, Dolly, Brianna, the bunnies, and Shroom!
"Awwww, how wonderful! Woohoo!" The girls, except Jazmine cheered. Shroom and the bunnies jumped up and down in excitement.
"What?! No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!" Benny hollered.
"Benny, you know better than that!" Lady Blueberry chastised. "Why can't you show your cousin support?"
"All due with respect Lady B, but Gnomeo can't marry Rosaline's!" Benny protested.
"Yes, Gnomeo marrying Rosaline is a terrible idea!" Jazmine agreed. "You have to call off the wedding!"
Lady Blueberry was stunned. "Why should I call it off?"
Before Benny and Jazmine were about to tell her why, Gnomeo arrived.
"Um, Mum do you think we could cancel the wedding?" Gnomeo asked, meekly. Now Lady Blueberry was getting angry at the youth's odd reaction to something they should be joyful about! What was wrong with them?
"No, Gmomeo I didn't make wedding plans for you and your bride just so you could cancel it or postpone it! Do you have any idea how expensive weddings cost nowadays? You foolish boy!"
"But Mum!" Gnomeo shouted."I don't think Rosaline loves me! At least doesn't love me enough to be my wife. She acted really cold toward me. I don't know what's wrong with her! She was nicer on paper than she was in person!"
Lady Blueberry softened at her son's reason.
"Son," the leader said, putting her hand on his shoulder. "Don't fret about Rosaline's behavior. I admit, she looked grumpy or cross but it had nothing to do with you! She probably had a bad day or some sort."
"Or maybe Rosaline had PMS!" Jazmine murmured to Benny who laughed. Lady Blueberry looked crossly at her. "As I was saying, son, don't worry about it!"
Meanwhile, at the Red Garden, trouble was bubbling there.
"Uncle, I beg you ,please, please! Cancel this wedding!" Rosaline begged on her knees."No, Rosaline! I already told you! The deal was made and it is too late to go back on it! As a matter of fact, we can't back out of the deal, it would be rude!" Lord Redbrick reasoned, angrily. He was getting tire"Uuuncccled of Rosaline's immature attitude! "You are going through it, whether you liked it or not!"
At his boat, Lord Redbrick announced the wedding news to his closet family members, Tybalt, Nanette, Fawn, the little red gnomes, Paris, Mickey, Penny, and Juliet.
"Awww, that's nice!" Fawn smiled. The little red gnomes rejoiced by doing flips! "Gnomeo's marrying Rosaline!?" Nanette gagged. Mickey and Penny were as green as Nanette. They tried thier best not to vomit!
"Congratulations, sister dear!" Tybalt teased. "You're getting married! You're getting married! You're getting married!"
Rosaline was getting irritated at her brother. Lord Redbrick boppe Tybalt on the hat with his Little shovel.
"Juliet, are you not going to congratulate your cousin?" Lord Redbrick, teasingly chided. Juliet, felt as her heart got smashed. Fallen to pieces.
"Congratulations, Rosaline," Juliet stuttered, before dashing off. Her eyes were wet.
"What kind of congratulations was that?" Lord Redbrick wondered, disappointed.
On her pedestal, tears cascaded from Juliet's eyes. Her body quacked and shook, as mobs escaped from her mouth. Juliet didn't understand what was wrong with her? Why was she crying? It was her idea to get her cousin and Gnomeo together. She worked hard to make that happen! So why was Juliet feeling very upset? Why was thier engagement making her heart break? Juliet knew why but she didn't want to admit it (At least to her family). How am I ever to tell him I love him? Never mind that! How am I going to tell him the truth? Juliet miserably, thought. I don't know how, but I need to tell Gnomeo before it's too late! Hid only I knew how!
Later at night, before Gnomeo went to bed, he thought of his mother's advice. Okay, it's possicle Rosaline was having a bad day and she loved him. Then why wouldn't Rosaline say those loving words from her letter? Gnomeo thought, sourly. Sounded sweet on paper but rude in person. Have I been talking to the wrong gnome?
