RETURN TO SCHOOL: WORRY

It was a week since Serena was discharged from hospital.

Monday morning had now arrived for the Moons and Chiba family, and it was time for Serena to return to school, due to the boredom she had felt even on bed rest for the first days on her return.

As the Sun began to rise into the sky, its light filtered through the grounds of a large mansion, and through the window and into a particular room. A young boy and girl stood embracing in the middle of the room; or rather the boy was trying to bring laughter back to the girl, as he tickled her without any mercy.

"Darien, would you let me go." Serena squealed, as she kicked her legs. "That tickles."
**I'm too ticklish. ** Serena thought with another squeal.
"Now precious, why should I?" Darien asked, as his arms tightened around her waist.
"We're going to be late, if you don't let me go?" Serena stated with a smile.

Darien chuckled, and blew into her ear, before releasing his girlfriend from his hold. Serena squealed in delight and pulled away from Darien's arms with a soft flutter of her heart. The sound of her squeals had brought a smile to Darien's face and he shook his head, as he took a step back and winked at his other half.

In the week prior, a day after Serena's hospital discharge, the Council had called them for a meeting and took things one step forward by involving them in the plans regarding their own protection and Serena's. It would ensure that another attempt, fatal or not, would not be successful on Serena and them. As Serena darted into the bathroom to get freshened up, Darien shook his head as another chuckle escaped from his lips, and his sapphire blue eyes lightened with happiness at the thought of Serena being safe.

"What shall I do without you, Angel?" Darien asked himself.

Darien walked over to the full length mirror and dusted his uniform off to check everything was in order, checking that there were no marks on his shirt and being satisfied with what he saw, he moved away. After a while, Serena stepped out of the bathroom, and walked over to the sofa.

"Are you ok, Angel?" Darien asked, as he turned to glance over. "You look pale."
**She looks too pale for my liking. ** Darien thought as he glanced at the mirror's reflection.
"Yes Dimi, I'm fine." Serena smiled, before her eyes landed on the calendar.
"You look worried." Darien stated, as he walked over, kneeling in front of her. "You know we'll be able to deal with what might happen on your return?"
**I feel worried for what's going to happen. ** Serena thought with a frown.
"The teachers will load me down with work." Serena muttered, as she stood from the sofa. "Ms. Haywood, the most."

Darien pulled her into his arms, and Serena breathed out a sigh, as she rested her head on his shoulder.

She had stayed in his room during the weekends, since the fear of nightmares had been strong when she returned from hospital and Serena had nearly woken screaming and crying from what had happened in her nightmare. Though her attackers had been arrested by the Council, it would still take months for Serena to recover from an attack, that had taken her innocence and purity away, and though Serena and her family wished that the attack hadn't happened, Serena was at peace in Darien's arms.

"I can call an assembly, sweet pea." Darien asked, as he pulled away from Serena.
"Don't worry, Darien." Serena smiled, as she tiptoed to place a kiss on his cheek. "I should be fine today."
"We'll talk to the populars." Darien squeezed her shoulders in comfort. "It can't continue like this, and something needs to change."
"I know, Darien but it's something that's probably gone on for years." Serena sighed, as she smiled up at him. "The change, which we need to occur, won't take effect as easily or as quick as we would like."
**Something needs to change and that starts with the populars. ** Serena thought as she met his sapphire blue eyes.

Darien nodded in return, placing a small kiss on the side of her head as he released the grip on her shoulders and moved over to his cupboard. He left Serena in her place, as he opened the doors whilst Serena smiled behind him, and watched as Darien pulled his school blazer from the cupboard, and placed it on. She brushed her uniform off to make sure it was clean, knowing that the early hours had been difficult for them both as Darien walked over, returning to her side.

"It's not a matter to strain ourselves to ensure your safety, Angel." Darien whispered as he bent down. "I worry for you sometimes and since you returned from the hospital, nothing has been easy."
"All of you won't be able to concentrate." Serena murmured, as she looked up at him.
**I worry for all of you, not just myself. ** Serena thought as she rested her head on his shoulder. **This matter needs to end and quickly. **
"Neither of us can concentrate already, Angel." Darien held her hands between his. "Just let us do this."
**We do this for you, Angel. ** Darien breathed to himself. **So we can get the concentration we need, and know that we can trust those on school grounds with your safety and best interests in mind. **

Serena nodded, as Darien pulled her back into his arms. The fourth and sixth year team of populars were already tense on her previous hospitalisation, and Serena didn't want them to worry further. She knew it would not be easy, as this was her first day and return to school after everything had happened.

"The fifth year cheer team are keeping an eye out." Serena muttered, as she turned away from Darien.
"Aren't some of their siblings in your class?" Darien asked as his arms tightened around her waist.
"Yes they are but it doesn't make a difference, Darien." Serena stated with a frown.
**Ms. Haywood is definitely going to kill me. ** Serena thought to herself as she turned away.
"Explain to me how it doesn't?" Darien asked, as he gripped her shoulders. "Angel, what on earth is going on?"
**I don't like this; you never hid away anything from us, Serena! ** Darien thought as he looked at the slender beauty.

Serena winced at his tight grip on his shoulders, but still didn't turn to face him as she looked over into a corner of the room, knowing it was difficult to continue hiding the facts from her sister, Darien and Drake. Serena sighed knowing that she was scared of what the end reaction would be, should she continue on the path she was taking, but the three were only thinking in her best interest. Serena took a deep breath and turned back to face Darien, with a sad smile as his hands fell back to her waist and pulled her closer.

"They're scared of her, Darien." Serena stated as she looked up with wide eyes. "They get taunted when they side with me."
"Why didn't you say anything?" Darien asked with a worried look. **Is this how bad it's gotten? Could we not see the signs earlier? **
"I tried, but each time it was different." Serena replied, as her head dropped.
**Ms. Haywood kept getting in my way each time I tried. ** Serena sighed as she thought of those events. **I swear she's like a stone wall, whenever it looks like I'm going to see Suzy, Darien or Drake. **
"You can't keep hiding away like this." Darien whispered, as he placed a kiss on her forehead.

Serena buried her face in his school shirt, and nodded drastically, knowing that he was right in what he said, but then again Darien was always right. It was time to let the past and events go, and make way for the future which was filled with happiness. The two remained in that position for a couple of minutes more, before Serena broke the silence with a sigh as she softly pulled away from Darien. Darien placed a small kiss on her neck, feeling her shiver as he remembered the events of last night and the hickey that was hidden under Serena's school shirt.

"Join us tomorrow." The question remained between them.

Serena's eyes widened at the sudden question that had been asked, as she looked up at Darien. Darien glanced down, meeting eyes with his blue eyed Angel, before she blushed and turned away. Serena was still growing, and despite being his girlfriend, Darien knew she didn't have much longer to go before she turned into a blossoming woman, as a chuckle escaped.

"Why become so shy, precious?" Darien asked, as he pulled her closer.

Serena's cheeks darkened to a rosy hue, and Darien smiled.

"Will you not greet the populars, Angel?" Darien asked as he looked at her. "You'll be fine and we'll be by your side throughout this."
"Will it stop you from worrying?" Serena retorted as she turned to face him.
"It might not but it'll be a start." Darien whispered with a shake of his head. "Admit it, you won't win against me."
"I should have known." Serena muttered, as she rested her head back to Darien's chest.
"Does it matter?" He asked, and smiled as his hands wrapped tighter around her. **You are too precious for us to lose you, little moon. **

Serena shivered in delight at the soothing rub that Darien provided, as he massaged her shoulders over her school blazer, even as she shook her head. Since it was her first day on returning to school since being discharged, Serena's uniform caused itches in some places, especially with still having to wear bandages under the uniform, and it was nice to be treated once in a while. She knew that there was still a week left before school broke out for the Christmas period and knew it was best to return lest she miss out information regarding study material for the upcoming years.

"I'll come and meet with you guys." Serena finally agreed, as a sigh escaped from her lips. **If it stops you from worrying I'll do so. **

Darien kissed the top of her head, before slightly pulling away, noting when Serena began to squeal in delight, as his fingers returned to her waist, and started to tickle her. Laughter filled his room, as Serena squealed again, trying to move away from the probing fingers in her sides before the duo fell back onto the bed. Serena gasped as she stared up at Darien with wide eyes, her cheeks taking on a red hue, before Darien chuckled and stood, pulling her up with him as he did so.

"Let's go." Serena murmured, as she turned her head to the side.
"Aunt Serenity's come back from her business trip?" Darien asked, as he stood from the bed.

Serena nodded, as Darien moved to offer her a hand to help her up. Serena took the offered hand, and moved from the bed to stand by Darien's side, nearly falling over as her legs decided to buckle under her weight. Thankfully Darien was there to catch her, as their hands remained joined and he smiled as he glanced down at the blushing beauty within his arms.

"Are we ready to go, precious?" Darien asked, as he looked down at their joined hands.
"Yes." Serena murmured.
**I can't believe I acted like a klutz in front of him. ** Serena thought as she blushed.

Darien smiled, and the duo turned to make their way out of the bedroom and head downstairs. Though they were boyfriend and girlfriend, it wouldn't be for another couple of years unless it was known due to the issues that had occurred over the past couple of months.

"Good morning dears." Gaea called as she looked up.
"Good morning mother, Aunt Serenity." Darien answered, as he took a seat next to Drake.
"Good morning mum, morning Aunt Gaea." Serena smiled, as she settled next to Suzanne.

This was Serenity Moon and the mother of Serena and Suzanne. A slender built woman, like her best friend, though Serena looked like she was a younger carbon copy of her mother. She, like Serena, had white blonde hair but had light blue eyes with a hint of silver, instead of baby blue like her daughters. Serenity glanced over her shoulder, and gave a small grin at seeing Serena and Darien make their appearance in the room, before returning her attention to the food's preparation.

"Did all of you have a lovely sleep?" Serenity asked, as she turned to the table.
"Yes mama." Serena and Suzanne answered.
"Serena!" Darien hissed, as he glared at her.
**The little minx. ** Darien thought as he glanced down. **She had difficulties in sleeping last night and she's lying through her teeth. **

Serena turned away from her sister to glare at the male, who would potentially be her, other half, in the near future. Serena shook her head rapidly before turning back to the conversation she was having with Suzanne, before she was interrupted. Suzanne quickly glanced between the two, wondering why Darien was worried, before shaking her head as she turned her attention back to her conversation with Serena.

"Do you guys want anything added to your lunches?" Gaea asked, as she packed four different bags.
"Put a cereal bar in Serena's, mother." Darien called as he looked out the corner of his eye. **It's for your own health that I do this, little moon. **

A hiss escaped his lips as he turned to glare at Serena, knowing that she had kicked him under the table without being noticeable to their mothers, whilst Serena's eyes turned wide at his glare, and she feigned innocence whilst pointing to herself, before she and Suzanne fell over in giggles. The two knew exactly what had happened, but fortunately, neither of their mothers had caught it, as Serena smiled softly in apology over to Darien and her eyes widened in a slight puppy dog pout.

"Here we go." Serenity smiled.

Serenity rested a plate of waffles in front of both of her daughters, which were nearly coated in maple syrup with melting butter at the top. Serenity smiled as she caught the familiar gleam appear in their eyes, as the sight of their favourite breakfast being put in front of them, and pulled away to return back to the remainder of the preparations. Unfortunately, the next smell from the oven, made Serena's stomach turn.

"Excuse me!" Serena murmured as she pushed her chair back.
**Why would I feel ill at that smell? ** Serena thought as she ran through the hallway.
"Serena!" Suzanne called out in worry. **What's gotten into her? **

Serena pushed her chair back and nearly bolted out of the room, when the smell became too strong for her to handle. A hand was slapped to her mouth, as the nauseating feeling felt too strong for her to keep back, and she bolted to the nearest bathroom. The mothers had heard the squeal of the chair go back before catching as Serena ran out of the kitchen, and wondered what was going on. Gaea shook her head as she placed a plate filled with bacon, eggs and bread in front of her sons, separate for both of them, and smiled as she returned back to where Serenity was stood.

The trio at the table ate their food in silence, each questioning in their own way, what had happened for Serena to leave. The sound of footsteps caught their attention, and the trio looked up to see that Jonathan was helping Serena back into the room. Serena was rapidly rubbing at her neck where a small red rash had begun to form, and Suzanne clicked her teeth in worry.

"Easy there." Jonathan whispered.

Gaea and Serenity looked up to notice that Jonathan was helping a pale faced Serena back into the kitchen, and their eyes widened, noticing the same thing that Suzanne had. The bandages that were yet to be removed, had caused a rash to appear underneath, irritating Serena as she rubbed at the itchy area.

"Are you ok, little one?" Jonathan asked, as he helped her to her seat.
"Yes papa." Serena groaned, as she scratched at her neck. **These blasted bandages are becoming annoying. **
"Take some ibuprofen before you head to school, dear." Jonathan stated, as he patted the top of her head.
"Yes papa." Serena stated with a nod. **I'll be fine, papa. You and mama really need to stop worrying if Suzanne, Darien and Drake are there. **

Jonathan wasn't satisfied fully, despite Serena's answer, as he frowned to himself at not being able to catch his daughter's weakness sooner, but he sighed when he realised the matters of the company had taken too much of his time away from his family, and nodded to Serenity as he left the room once more, leaving Serena to the care of the others. Serenity looked worryingly after Jonathan, before turning her gaze on her eldest daughter noting that she had turned slightly pale, knowing Jonathan was worried for that reason but the business and its newest venture was taking up too much of his time.

"You don't look well enough to attend, dear." Serenity sighed as she looked at her daughter's complexion. "Are you sure that you don't want to stay at home?"
"I'll be fine, mother." Serena looked up with a smile.
"If anything happens, just call us." Serenity pleaded as she squeezed her daughter's shoulder. "We don't need another mishap to occur on school grounds."
**I hope you stay safe at school, little one. ** Serenity thought as she gazed at Serena. **You are so much like your father it is unbelievable. **
"I will; mamma." Serena stated with a nod.

Serena nodded as she took the pain killers from her mother's hand, and gulped them down with her other prescribed medicine, through a glass of orange juice. She pulled a face at swallowing one particular medicine, given its odd taste before she stood from her chair to do her chores, and the rest of her family looked at her with shock. Unfortunately Serena had noticed and turned round to glare at the occupants of the table, before eyes flickered to catch the time on the clock.

"What are you guys staring at?" Serena snapped as she raised an eyebrow.
**Geez, do they not realise the time. ** Serena thought with a frown, as she spared a glance at the clock on the far wall. **There's a meeting today and the populars aren't going to like them being late. **
"You guys do realise we have minutes left before the car appears outside." Serena stated with a scowl.

Serena's words had got the others to move out of their shocked position, even as she turned back to the counter with the scowl on her peaceful features. Within the next five minutes, the table had been cleared and the dishwasher was set up. The group were ready to head to school, given that all of their chores had been done, and with minutes to spare.

Serena quickly grabbed an apple from the table, and kissed her mother on the cheek, before biting into it causing her family to give a light chuckle at her appetite and Serena blushed. The rest of the group followed her example, before following Serena out of the house, and to the awaiting transport car. Behind them, just before they left, they noticed as their mothers made a shooing motion as they collected their bags from the sofa and made their way to the transport that would take them to Mayfield State School.

"I'll be fine, guys." Serena whinged as she caught the glances.
"Just be a little careful, Serena." Suzanne stated as she waved her hand. "You know we only want the best, since you don't need to end up in hospital again like the last time."
"Yeah, if you see a popular, stay in their sights at all times." Drake seconded, when Serena settled next to Darien.
"I will take care, and I'll make sure of it that I'm in the sight of a popular at all times." Serena stated with a light laugh. **It's nice to be back to them worrying. **
"The assembly will need to be called, Drake." Darien growled, as he pulled Serena close to his side. "The rest of the groups don't seem to get it, nor do the teachers."
**It's time we make the change come. ** Darien thought with a growl.

Serena nodded to all their words, knowing they were right. As she rested her head back on Darien's shoulder and curled up into his side, the car door was shut behind Drake as he entered and the car pulled out of the driveway, and made its way to the destination. It's destination, the same as every weekday morning and weekday afternoon, was to and from the State School.

Mayfield State School was their school.
