Hey I am so sorry for the long break! I am going to be updating ALL of my stories over the next few days so please review and read and stuff! Thanks!
Tears attempted to fall down JJ's face, but JJ wiped them away before they could be seen by Emily. They had been driving for around twenty minutes. It took that whole time for JJ to finally realize that Emily wasn't driving back to the station.
"Where the hell are you going Prentiss," JJ asked, straightforwardly. She didn't even bother to look in Emily's direction.
Emily bit her lip and sighed. She noticed that JJ was trying to distance herself from the situation by using her surname.
"I don't know, but we aren't going back until you start talking," Emily said. JJ slumped back in her seat.
"I have nothing to talk about," JJ said. "But, seriously, do you even know where you are driving?" JJ asked, their route was getting all too close to an almost forgotten one. She didn't want to be any closer to her old life than she was now.
"Nope, and I won't until you tell me what is going on," Emily said, defiantly. It wasn't like she just wanted to know, she knew that JJ's secret was eating her alive.
Maybe I should tell her, JJ thought to herself. You idiot, she'll just hate you if she finds out, she countered her own thoughts.
"Listen, Jayje," Emily started. "You are not this person, whoever you have become in the last few days, you're not her."
JJ almost laughed at the irony of that statement.
"You sure about that," she said.
"What do you mean?" Emily inquired further. She wasn't letting go until she found out what was going on in the blonde's head. "I am going to find out one way or another."
There was no response from JJ, she just kept staring out the window, as rain started to fall.
"Okay, fine don't talk, but can I at least ask you some questions," Emily asked.
JJ still didn't reply, but at the same time, she didn't say no.
"Who is Shelby Merrick?" Emily asked, carefully. She knew who Shelby was, it was hard to not. But at the same time, she didn't want to believe it. She wanted to hear JJ say it.
"You don't want to know," JJ responded. It surprised Emily that she even spoke, she was pretty much expecting JJ to ignore her.
"Why not?" Emily asked. She, in a way, felt like she was talking to a child; taking baby steps to get to the point.
"She doesn't… belong with people like you," JJ said, almost laughing. The rain outside started to pelt down and the wind that was just a breeze before, started to pick up.
"Why not?" Emily asked again.
JJ now ignored her. In her mind, the conversation had gone to far down a hold she never wanted to fall in again.
"Don't we have a case," JJ asked, irritated.
"Yep," Emily said. JJ gave her a look, she was about to say something else when Emily's phone rang.
"Prentiss," she said as she answered the phone. "Yes… hold on, I'll put you on-... um okay… no, she's right here… that doesn't make any sense… are you sure… wouldn't it be-... yeah okay… she won't be happy…yeah… I assume so…." JJ could only catch part of the conversation.
Emily hung up the phone and slowly turned towards JJ.
"Jayje, why didn't you tell me?" Emily asked. She didn't look upset, more a mix of concern and a bit of hurt.
"Tell you about what?" JJ asked aggressively.
"Who are you?" Emily said slowly. Her voice breaking as she said it.
There was a long pause before JJ said anything. She tried to wipe a tear without it being seen, but Emily caught her. Luckily for JJ though, Emily didn't mention it.
Meanwhile, Emily's mind was racing. She knew the information, she knew that all of the evidence pointed towards it, but she didn't want to believe it.
"My name is Jennifer Jareau," JJ said, as if it was automated. She turned to face the window.
Emily took a deep breath.
"I sent Hotch the name, Walt Blaine," Emily glanced up to see what kind of emotion the name would bring up. JJ however kept her head turned away. "When Garcia ran it she found something. There was a-"
"Stop," JJ said, suddenly. "I know what you're going to say. Just ask what you want to so I can get back to my job."
"What is your name," Emily asked. She cut JJ of before she replied. "The name you were born with." Emily was asking questions she already knew the answer to and JJ knew that.
"Shelby… Merrick," JJ said, quietly. Emily nodded as she tried to make sense of everything.
"So Walt Blaine is your stepfather?" Emily asked. Again, she asking questions that she already knew the answer to. But she also knew that if the answer was yes, then what kind of past JJ would have had.
JJ scoffed.
"Sure, let's go with that," she said, snarkily.
"What else would he be," Emily asked.
"No one okay?! Just leave me alone," JJ almost shouted. Emily noted her sudden change in behavior and took her eyes off of the road to make sure she was okay.
"Pull over," JJ said simply.
"What- why?" Emily said, surprised.
"Hmm, I don't know, maybe because cars aren't supposed to fume like that," JJ said, pointing to the front of the car that was smoking up. Emily swore under her breath and pulled over.
JJ looked around. Seriously, she thought, here? They were on a highway that went through a forest on a mountain. Enough said. They were on a route that JJ was all too familiar with. Thunder clapped not to far away. Emily pulled out her phone.
"No signal," Emily said, defeated. JJ rolled her eyes, she had been surprised that she had even gotten signal earlier.
"I wonder why?" JJ said, sarcastically.
"How do you know Juliette and Augustus?" Emily asked.
"Great, we're back to that?" JJ replied. "I told you, I went to high school with them."
"JJ," Emily started softly. "I know I asked you this before, but why did you go Mt. Horizon?"
"Why do you even care?" JJ asked, stubbornly.
"Because you're my friend JJ!" Emily replied. JJ was about to reply, but a honk from outside surprised them both.
A truck was outside the SUV rolled down their window. JJ did the same, not looking up.
"No signal?" the man guessed. JJ's heart sped up at the familiar voice. "Do you need a lift anywhere? Well, up is the only way. Roads are blocked up. There was a massive pile-up. Even a government vehicle wouldn't be able to get through." He said gesturing to the SUV.
Emily looked up at the man.
"Actual-" she started, but JJ cut her off.
"We're fine," JJ interrupted.
"Wait," the man said. He paused. "Shel?"
"Hello, Peter," JJ said, unhappily. She turned around to face Peter Scarbrow.
