So, I just got a review from harryfan011 that totally boosted my ego and I decided to post this.
Also as a side note: Even though this is "complete", I'll keep adding to this every so often since this is like my baby. I love kid!fics and this is my ultimate kid!fic, lol.
The red button kept blinking on Sara's answering machine but she refused to press the 'hear messages' button. She was just sick and tired of hearing all the condolences. Yes, her parents had passed away but she didn't want to hear the pathetic 'I'm so sorry for your loss' speeches any longer. All the letters and notes of sympathy were unread and she just sent back a form letter-type thing saying that she was grateful for the support.
After staring at the machine for a few minutes, she groaned in frustration, she finally just decided to delete all the messages and then they were gone and yet, she was still all alone. She was only twenty-two. Her parents were supposed to spoil her kids and her dad was to walk her down the aisle when she got married. She wasn't ready to be alone and now, she had nobody.
12 years later
She was feeling overwhelmed. Nick just wouldn't stop crying and she was all alone in the house with nobody to give her a hand. If this continued for any longer, she was positive that she'd end up breaking into tears sooner or later.
"Here, give him to me."
She turned around to see Neal and handed the baby to him, even though he was still wearing his coat. "Please," she said gratefully. "I just want him to stop crying. He hasn't shut up in over 20 minutes." She smiled wryly. "I didn't even know that babies could cry for this long until now."
"How are you?" Neal asked quietly, knowing that this day would be hard for his wife, no matter now little their child was crying.
"I miss them even more," Sara admitted, sniffling a little. "I just keep thinking about how much my parents would've loved Nick."
"I know," Neal said soothingly, pulling his wife into a one-handed hug. Nick was stirring quietly in his other hand and everything was peaceful.
"Do you miss your parents, Neal?" Sara asked suddenly. "I cry over mine every year but you never mention them."
"You know what both of my parents did," he replied shortly. "James used me and every time I send my mother anything, I get it back unopened so I don't even know how I feel."
"We both are really screwed up, aren't we?"
"Yeah we are," he agreed. "But now, we have our own not-so screwed up family."
