"Where are you? i heard you moved on...
and you're building yourself a new world or some other land
and who is it that's with you... i see you're happy,
I decided not to ruin the frame of the picture.
I almost broke and the truth is that i also had a dream
that you are sitting next to me in the livingroom, and hugging...
how i writhed from the pain of love, they didn't tell me it was dangerous..."
Notes:
the story will end, when i finish the lyrics of the song above (in the summary). Each chapter will carry another part of the song. let me know what you think :)
It was more than easy to spot the blond woman. She was seated at the bar with many kinds of empty glasses surrounding her and her hair was so messy Cosima had to take a breath from the sudden heat inside her. Relieved to see Delphine was by herself, she slowly went towards her, ignoring the sudden need for air.
"Delphine?" Cosmia asked gently when seeing Delphine with her eyes closed tightly. "Non." The disoriented blonde replied with a raspy voice.
"What no?" Cosima furrowed her brows at the weird answer. "You are not really. Go. You not Cosima really. Just a voice i am no." Delphine went on but Cosima raised her hand to Delphine's cheek gently and Delphine opened her eyes wide. "Ma cherie!" Delphine smiled in a funny way and hugged Cosima close. Cosima could practically smell the amount of alcohol the blonde had inhabited, but let the warm hug linger. She couldn't deny the pleasure.
"Delphine. Come on, let's go back." Cosima hooked a hand around Delphine's waist when she saw how unsteady she was. "Bien sur mon amour." Delphine mumbled to her ear, her head falling on Cosima.
"I want a hamburger CCosima cherie. Why hey your cheeks are so red so red so cute petite chiot where are you going oh i fine i'm loving things soft you wow…" Delphine kept on mumbling words and Cosima was half lost half very relieved Delphine is drunk to not notice her completely.
"Come on Delphine walk."
"I love how you say my name. Say it again."
"Delphine."
"Oui?"
"Oh god…" Cosima sighed and was more than thankful for the short walk. As they went into Delphine's bedroom, Cosima let Delphine sit on the bed and went to the bathroom to grab some make up cleaners for Delphine.
While searching in the white drawers, she heard labored breathing and slight whimpers. "Delphine-?" what she saw broke her heart.
Delphine was on her bed with a pillow in her arms, crying into it in the most broken way. "HHey Delphine Delphine what is wrong?" She came to her and in a second held her close to her body, Delphine instantly preferring Cosima's body rather than the pillow.
"C-Cosim-a y you are leaving in a week. you are leaving." She cried and held onto the dreadlocked woman for dear life.
"Baby.." Cosima sighed and closed her eyes. Delphine held her even closer.
"You will be gone you- i can't." She cried on Cosima's neck and was buried deep in her. Cosima wished in that moment to never let go.
She patted Delphine lovingly while looking at her graceful body shattering with sobs, each breaking into her as well. Cosima kissed her head and face and neck gently and kept on it when seeing how much it calmed her.
She had so much to say, but instead, she cried too. In secret.
After a while, Delphine became limp and Cosima slowly slowly tuck her to bed and after one long glance she left the room. Her eyes still tearing slightly. She puffed in her big blanket on the sofa and fell asleep, wanting to forget.
"Oi Cos wake up." Sarah said rather loudly and pushed a cup of coffee in front of Cosima. Always knowing just what she needed. "I brought some presents with me."
At that Cosima opened her eyes. Everyone laughed. Cosima frowned.
While adjusting to the morning light, she noted the faces, Alison, Sarah, Felix, Delphine, Paul DelphineDelphineDelphine. Cosima observed her for a second, apart from the slight signs of headaches, she seemed as though, shit.
"Do you remember anything?" Cosima asked quickly.
"Remember what Cosima?" Cosima wanted to throw up.
"How do you feel?" Delphine now furrowed her brows.
"My head hurts, hangover, Alison told me you brought me back. Thank you." She said with a thankful but also alert look. Cosima's sudden change in behaviour made her feel uncomfortable.
"Oh." Cosima looked down and was thankful somehow when she said it someone was talking and it wasn't noted by the others. Except for two people were looking right at her fallen head.
Delphine and Sarah.
"Hey wait my presents." Cosima raised her head again and looked expectantly at Sarah, who looked at her seriously with slightly narrowed eyes.
"Come with me." She replied simply and went to the balcony door.
Without looking at Delphine, Cosima stood up and joined Sarah.
"Do i need to ask?"
"God please no."
Delphine heard Sarah's and Cosima's quick exchange before they went out the door. what the hell.
"Well we planned to get out to eat and later maybe go to the cinema?" Paul said to everyone in Delphine's livingroom.
"I can't tonight, i'm meeting Ayrin." Sarah frowned in surprise, Delphine in hurt. "Oh and i um think i'll just stay enjoying my gift. You should all go out." She said and looked directly at Sarah, knowing she worries, trying to hide the fact she has a reason to.
"And i'll be making sure she ain't burning the house." Sarah added. Looking at Cosima, they understood, with just one look, they always understood each other. Cosima would have protested, but.. she just knew, understood Sarah and her intentions.
Delphine would have joined the two, but felt oddly uninvited. This was theirs.
It took a while for everyone to head out, but Cosima left the second she could and went out to the balcony, making sure to lock it to make the message clear.
Though it was possible to see from the balcony, apart from knowing Cosima is in the process of painting on the big new canvas, Delphine had no idea what was on her mind from her back solely. Also she kept feeling watched and Sarah kept staring at her as if thinking of taking a picture. She did. Click.
Delphine rationalised it with the fact Sarah is a photographer, maybe she always does this to people…
When they finally left, she glanced one last look at Cosima, still only seeing her back, sighed and left. Click.
When Cosima finished the painting she went back in, Sarah had just finished cooking a quick meal of unhealthy things and they sat there lazing in front of the tv.
It was obvious there were words to be said, but it was so obvious, they didn't feel the need to say them, at least not the heavy, burdening ones. The silence was comforting and they just brought company and a breathe of fresh air to each other. No expectations to do or be anything. After some more shit doing, tension killing time with Sarah, Cosima went off to the date with Ayrin.
When Delphine came back and looked at the balcony, there was no Cosima, but a painting instead. Click
