When my eyes focus I see that I'm looking at a winter wonderland. A mountain is in the distance and everything is covered in snow. Behind me is a forest with lots of trees and no snow in sight. When I fully turn on my circle the cold is no more, a warm breeze hits my face and I see that Georgian was right about the cold and hot weather. I turn to face the cornucopia.
The cornucopia is a golden horn placed usually in the center of the arena. It's filled to the brim with things that will help us survive. I can see tent packs huge bottles of water and weapons. Surrounding the cornucopia are lesser items that are ok. In front of me is a loaf of bread and closer to the cornucopia are two pairs of twin axes.
Those are meant for me so I can win these games. I look around at the other tributes to find my ally, I see her father away from me but not too far. She is signaling to me to run into the forest behind me and I nod she nods back.
We have 60 seconds to wait while the cameras film us if you step off your plate land mine kill you intently. Now we have 45 second.
The legendary announcer Claudius Templesmith voice booms out of nowhere "Ladies and gentlemen let the 72th Hunger Games begin!"
Then three tributes are blown up. The three explosions that go off are on the other side of the cornucopia so I don't know who they were. I look around to see that Tyler is looking right at me his blue eyes are probably at home in the white tundra. Then I look at my ally and she is as white as the snow but not blown up.
25 seconds, I think of a plan.
I'm going to get that bread those axes and the bag that just past the axes and run to the forest to find my ally. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and the gong rings out and I run, the grips really help, I shoot off like a bullet and grab the bread the axes and another tribute is at the backpack so I run to him, his back is to me and I stick an axe right into his back I pull it out grab the pack and turn to run when I see my ally at the cornucopia.
She's trying to get a tent pack and then the boy from 6, I huge monster with death in his eyes, grabs her head. I turn and run to the forest as fast as I can not wanting to see what the boy did to my ally. I slip a pair of twin axes into my belt and cram the other pair and the bread into my pack. I stop running but I jog faster than normal just so I can get as far from the cornucopia as possible.
After a while I think 'I need to find water.' So then I climb a tree and begin to look I see a clearing so I swing from tree to tree like I did at home and in the rafters of the training center and I feel at home. When I get to the clearing a dear is sipping at a pond I grab my axe and throw it right at its neck. The dear is dead instantly.
I look in my pack to see what I have; twin axes, bread, a blanket, a water bottle, a small knife, flint and steal, and sunglasses. I fill my water bottle with water from the pond and with the knife I cut the dear into pieces. The heat of the forest is too much for me, I put my jacket into my pack. Looking around every few seconds I start a fire with the flint and steal and quickly cook the dear.
The cameras are good here so I can show sponsors that I can hunt so they don't think I'm weakened by hunger.
Sponsors are people from the capital who give money to tribute mentors. The mentors can buy items and send them to the tributes. This helps us if we need it like: if I can't find any proper food Johanna can send in a meal for me if a sponsor pays her. Johanna can also choose not to send a gift to me if she thinks I can do it on my own or if she's in a bad mood anything.
The cameras are probably filming the blood bath at the cornucopia but they do shot some shots of the other tributes just to say we are ok. Then I hear the canon blast one for each tribute.
A canon will blast after a tribute die but at the beginning they wait until the blood bath is finished because it's hard to count so many tributes. I count them all: 1, 2, 6, 8, and 13. Wow 13 dead already well really 10 because 3 died before the games started. I think the game makers killed them just to show that they could. There are still 11 tributes left.
When to dear is cooked I eat a little and begin to climb another tree. I fly, swing from tree to tree, around the pond to the other side and find a good tree to sleep in. I spot a nice white oak tree not far from the pond and hide in the leafy foliage.
As the arena darkens I can hear animals around me. I made sure to stamp out my fire before I left because as the arena gets darker a fire would be easier to see. When night time has set around a giant screen appears in the sky. This screen will show us who is dead and from what district they're from.
At home they would show how they died but that would give us the living tributes an unfair advantage. Like me with the boy that I killed with the axe if they showed that my secret would be out and every tribute would know I can kill and that I have axes.
On the screen first is the boy from 1, so the girl from 1 made it and he's dead. I think for a moment, I killed him now remembering the blond hair that shown in the sunlight when he fell over. Next the boy from 2, both from 3 and 4, yes that crazy girl is dead, the girl from 8, the girl from 9 the boy from 10 and both from 11 and 12. Wow Tyler made it through the blood bath and the only careers left are the girls from 1 and 2 so this year I might win.
